[Q] LG Nexus 4 or SG3 or Gnex ? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys ,
I currently have a Galaxy Mini which is a good device , But its time to move on and get a new one .
what i am thinking about now are three devices : LG Nexus 4 or SG3 or Gnex .
I think that LG Nexus 4 is the best ( I love its look , its performance and of course its a nexus device )
but i have a few doubts :
1. Is LG fine ( i have never had an LG phone ) ?
2. Why is it so cheap compared to other devices ?
3. Will it have constant development like the Gnex ?
N.B : I don't care about it having no LTE or limited Storage .
I need some answers guys and if u have any other info u would like to share to just make sure that this is my next phone , Tell me .
BTW if u think other devices are better tell me and tell me why ?
Waiting for your info
Edit 1 : Guys you are only answering my second question what about the other two ?

1- awesome displays and devices in general are getting better nowadays
2- it's cheap because of google strategy... they're probably losing money for each device sold. Their intent is not make money over device selling, but to spread nexus and android word
3- yes, nexus.

The hardware quality isn't bad either, the biggest issue for a lot of the early adopters with LG Optimus 2X was how delayed software updates were, and how some relationships with partners royally screwed over the community in fixing the damn thing.
As for the price, they're not neccessarily selling it at a loss, phones like the iPhone 5 costs $208 to make for the 16GB version, that is including manufacturing, and excluding any special deal they may have with the chip vendors.
On the other hand it is also excluding R&D of the product, but i doubt, for the LG Nexus 4, that it has been that costly for Google, they basically took a finished phone, and then designed a new exterior for it, then told LG to make it.
So it is probably a war on the ecosystems as you suggest, but hopefully it will also mean that we'll see a few hundred dollars shaved off from the competitors devices in the future.

Silly question to post in the Nexus 4 forums. Going to get very bias results.
Also, I doubt they lose money. They probably break even with the hope of gaining from Book, App, Game, Music, Film sales. etc.

I doubt they are losing money as well but they are probably not making money either. Any profits from the Nexus 4, 7, and 10 will go to the manufacturer of the device and google makes no money on Android itself.
Google really only makes money on a few things: Playstore (commission only probably), advertising, and cloud services.
On topic:
1. Is LG fine ( i have never had an LG phone ) ?
LG's biggest issues are software updates and since this is a Nexus you wont have to worry about that.
2. Why is it so cheap compared to other devices ?
Google wants to spread the Joy of android to the masses at little cost, so they sell the devices at the cost of manufacturing or lower (Nexus 7 8gb)
3. Will it have constant developing liek the Gnex ?
since it is a Nexus device, yes it will have constant developing. I think the first nexus dev section is still going pretty strong.

even though i want to ask you. assuming you know that dual core phones are starting to come from this month. " optimus 2x" with tegra 2 from nvidia, 8M 1080p video recording, hdmi output and 1.3 M front facing camera, why did you pick up the nexus S now ?
did you get it used for a good price ?
or you didnt know about newer phones coming in the market very soon ?
or you dont care about new technology and just want a pure google expierience without any added extra " theme" ?
because reading your question in the first post, you pretty much dont know how did you end up with the phone lol
Grats, should be getting mine today
going to be my first smartphone.
as for the question above me, at this time i don't see a need for dual core phones.
one of the main reasons why I went for the NS, is that it is not as common as many other phones, I like having something that not many others (atleast in my area) have.

how do you figure it out ? how do you figure it out that you dont need a dual core phone ?
the prices are not much of a difference, specialy if you are going to buy it new.
i am sorry but unless you provide me with a good reason like super amoled. pure google expiernce whatever, then there is no point of buying the nexus s TODAY when new phones are coming out within week or so.
same cant be applied for people who bought it when it came out in Dec.
Why don't I need a dual core phone? simple, for me the phone is mostly for calling and texting, now that i will have a smart phone I will add GPS navigation, emails, music, videos and casual gaming and probably other stuff that i might discover along the way.
From all that I have seen today on the internet and on smartphones that friends have, all these options run great on todays hardware.
Another reason for the nexus s is the 4" screen. most next gen devices are coming out with 4.3" screen, that makes the phone too big for me.
And I like the idea of the update support from google and not needing to rely on the manufacturer for updates.

all what you said apply on both phones
both are good in calling, both are good in gps emails music videos. and gaming.
the difference is the dual core just does it better in terms of multi media and gaming " better performance "
as for the 4.3 screen. its fine. even though optimus 2x is 4.0 screen and so is the atrix as far as i know
the only reason i see that you might have a point is the updates directly from google. which is good reason enough to buy the phone assuming you are honest with your self when you typed that as one of the main reasons. because yeah it takes much longer to get updates if its not from google.
Congrats on the phone.

1ST) Don't forget that nexus S is a developer phone. If user wanted features, they would be better off buying any other android in today's market. If they want FM, memory slot, better cam, fancy UI, cheaper in price there are many other better options out there in competition to nexus s, and those options where already there before in December then the phone came out. main advantage of nexus s is that it is basic android phone with direct support from google. new software updates comes out to this phone then any other. that is handy for people developing, testing or integrating software for android.
2ND) dual-core cpu, with better performance GPU, bigger screen = short lasting battery, inconvenient to carry.... also dont forget u r buying a phone, not a PC. wont u rather play those nicer games on ur PC then on phone; come on, dont tell me everyone just keeps travelling whole week with no time to sit at a desk and enjoy games, videos, music. I still find it more convenient to send a proper email from my PC then from phone, though i like the fact that i can scan new emails quickly and sometimes send short replies (SMS-like). in short, I think going for those dual-core as soon as they come out would be an overkill. I would rather wait 10 months to a year, and buy the second generation of dual-core phones when they have better-ed battery use, with smaller size and get to choose from more apps that support dual-core.
3RD) for the enthus out there, its a matter of must have, whenever they can afford it, whatever they use it for, even if they understand the phone completely or not, its a toy by their preferred brand

1- then you agree with me. because thats what i said for people who bought it in Dec, then yeah. awesome. but for someone who is today, going to shop for a phone. i am sorry but the nexus S is not as a great value as say,, atrix or optimus 2x ( unless i want google updates or want a super amoled screen.. you know.. reasons to own a nexus S phone ". as a consumer, i dont give a crap if the phone is a developers phone or not. the end results is what matters to me.
PLUS i also agreed on the part that if he bought the phone for google updates, then thats a valid reason and he made the right choice " if it was honestly his intention like me who got sick of galaxy S lame updates by samsung.
2- the battery excuse was proven wrong with both optimus 2x released in korea where people report that the phone last more than 1 day with heavy usage . and the atrix even has a 1900 mah battery. that will pobably last longer. so please dont use that excuse.
and i know i am buying a phone. but if my phone can do pc stuff as well. then hell yeah. after all, you bought your phone for multi media. music. gps , movies, games etc. these are all PC stuff. otherwise you would have stayed on a cheap nokia phone that do nothing but calls. to me you seems you are trying to justify your purchase saying nexus S is a phone when atrix/optimus 2x are not a phone but PCs. when they both are doing the same functions exactly. but the atrix optimus 2x doing it better.
dont justify your reason for a phone. you pick whatever you want. its a personal taste, you might have bought the nexus S because you like the hardware design. its your money. you do whatever you want. when i asked i wanted a honest answer as maybe. just MAYBE he made the wrong choice. after all, we all come here for discussion and feedback/complaints/help if needed. thats what makes us a great community. 3- i also agree with you on this. thats what i just above. personal taste.

LOL.
I actually agree with you that it's an odd time to be buying a Nexus S for most folks, but your final sentence there doesn't sit quite right.
You seem to be saying that the "magic" timeframe to justify buying a phone when better/faster/slicker devices are just around the corner is 3 months? I don't want to be buying a new phone every three months, though I've sort of fallen into that trap over the last year (Nexus One, Galaxy S i9000, iPhone 4, Nexus S all bought and kept in less than a year, with several others given a test drive).
Those of us who bought the Nexus S in December were heavily criticized even back then for buying what many called "outdated" technology with dual core phones coming out in a few months.
My experience with Android phones has been that there is ALWAYS a better phone coming out in a month or two. Pick what meets your needs today and get it and don't worry about justifying the purchase to some stranger in a forum...you'll go nuts otherwise.

well i am in love with the way the nexus s looks and i'd rather wait for the galaxy s 2 which the guy told me 4th quarter but if it comes out earlier these bad boys go on ebay for like $500-650 so i will just sell and buy the phone off contract
I was one of those who decided to buy a Nexus S now. In my case, a friend of mine was traveling to the US and coming back this week. I had an option of getting an Atrix or a Nexus S.
The reasons I went for the Nexus S are:
1) Motorola not only locked the baseband, but this time they signed the files. This makes the Atrix almost iPhone-like. If I wanted a closed system, I'd have stuck with the iPhone some time ago, and not switched to Android.
2) I owned a Galaxy S, which I gave to my wife (who had a Milestone) and I'm in love with Super AMOLED screens. It has raised the bar really high for me, and I wouldn't settle for any screen. Many Atrix users have reported that the Atrix screen, despite the resolution, is not that great.
3) Atrix ships with Android 2.2, and who knows when they'll have 2.3 (considering this is Motorola we're talking about.) And with Android 2.2, the Atrix seemed sluggish (on the interface) in every video I've seen so far.
4) Considering that phones are much more expensive here in Brazil, I was able to sell my wife's Milestone for just as much as I paid for the Nexus. And I even managed to give my friend (who bought it) a sweet deal. That's how expensive these things are around here. So I didn't really spend any money on the upgrade.
I don't know when my friend will be in the US again, so it was kind of a "now or never" sort of thing.
I guess I'll just wait for Google to release the next Nexus, or go for the Galaxy S2 in a few months. Right now, I'm really happy with my choice. The Nexus S feels like someone took the Galaxy S (which was already a phone I really loved) and made it even better.
Just my two cents...

I can afford both phones, but am leaning towards the Nexus S for the following reasons:
1) SAMOLED colors and contrasts
2) Usable front camera for video calls
3) Will get Ice Cream (GPU acceleration and Gtalk video chat) in June, unlike the encrypted Atrix (next December, maybe?)
4) Most good apps will run on it just fine, while Atrix only has a couple of good Tegra 2 games and many apps that won't run on it till devs have a reason to update them by the end of the year (like all the video call apps, for instance).
Congrats on your phone!
Ignore the people who think you bought it late. I'm still waiting for it to be released in my country (should be any day now). It will be my first smartphone. My previous 2 phones (yeah I only had two) were Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, which are the best "dumb" phones there are in my opinion, but I have kept an eye on Android since it has been introduced. I have been patiently waiting untill the OS would be more grown-up, and I think the time has come.
I'm not the kind of guy that buys another phone within a year. If I buy a phone, I plan to use it for at least 2 years. Because of that, I want a phone that I think I can use for more than 2 years. It has to be special to me.
But, this doesn't mean I want the latest hardware. I am more than happy with what the Nexus S can do, and for now I don't see any reason to have a dual-core device. There just aren't features that I may use that need it, and the Nexus S is fast enough. Of course, since dual-core phones aren't more expensive than the Nexus S, I could just buy a dual-core phone, but the Nexus S seems more complete to me. And this is a thing I can't really describe....
I just think the Nexus S is unique. Unique enough to last more than 2 years, and still have people saying "nice phone".

There isn't another phone or tablet on the market now or coming in the near future that can push out 4.4k on quadrant without breaking a sweat. Dual cores won't be worth it until they have ice cream and can make use of both cores until then the only reason to own one is to make you feel like your gadget **** is bigger.
Furthermore why buy an atrix now when the HTC pyramid is coming soon? Dual 1.2 ghz snap dragon cores? Hell yes. Oh wait by the time that comes Tegra 3 phones will be coming out. So why buy a dual core when quad core phones are coming?!. .................

Have you owned an LG phone before?

I own an S3 (Galaxy Nexus before the S3) and can't decide if I want this Nexus 4 or not. I have been reading a lot of complaints about LG phones, specifically shoddy hardware. So I'm curious if anyone in here buying the N4 have actually owned an LG phone before. I've been an Apple/Samsung guy for the last 4 years so making the switch is a little unsettling after reading some feedback on LG on XDA. It's a Google OS as vanilla as it gets, and that is a good thing. However after your return policy is up it will be LG supporting this device and backing the hardware, that's what concerns me.
Never owned an LG before ( except a fridge maybe?) but it's a nexus. Sometimes I even forget that it's made by LG.
Yeah it's a Nexus, but it's not made or supported by Google. That's my concern. The Nexus 7 is a Nexus and that has to be one of the most shoddily made devices I've ever owned. I went through 5 before I could actually use one without the screen lifting up.
No, and if this wasn't a Nexus, I would never buy it (someone said Optimus G?).
Because this is an LG, Google checks the device a million times and warranty is buy Google.
So I guess the only thing we need to worry about is how good does LG check devices coming from the factory. (just want to say I think HTC don't do it well.. they should sell their devices will a soldering kit to fix wifi / gps
Anyway, I own an LG Smart TV, and its awesome! No problems at all!
Used to have an Optimus 2x i changed out with a Galaxy Nexus after a year or so, it wasn't bad but the software support was awful, heck they haven't even done ICS for it yet, but it was atleast better than the Nexus which i got scratches on after a few months.
Sold that and changed to the SGS3 which i would've kept if it hadn't pinktinted my display, now i'm gonna get it repaired under warranty and sell that if there is nothing to the claimed issues with the Nexus 4 performance/heat conductivity.

Google does not warranty this device and where is your evidence that Google checks the device a million times. As it is Google has sent out review samples that are getting results all over the place. That doesn't instill a lot of confidence in Googles checks.
I'm not trying to crap on LG here, but I also don't want to blindly buy a device I know nothing about just because it's a Nexus. Like I said, the Nexus 7 is a Nexus and that has horrible build quality and quality control issues. When you have problems with a Nexus 7 after your Google Play return policy you are dealing with Asus, not Google for warranty issues.
I've had a G2x for a year and a half, and and although the software on it was horrible, the build quality was excellent. Their devices don't feel cheap at all.

I had an LG flip phone back in the day that I liked.
Sent from my bootloader-locked MB865.
i had the Optimus 4X, and it is yet to be opened by LG. it has alot of security checks to make sure no one tries to abuse their licenced hardware functions.
they have the bootloader locked on the Tegra3 platform like Asus do on Prime, and no unlocking available.
If they follow their current strategy around sourcecode and proprietary code with security checks around the binaries being in place, i would stay far, far, far away from this device by LG.
It will never get any good support primarily because LG is behind it, so no Gold'LOL'Star from me for this release. It will probably fail long before it ever becomes a success.
exception is if Google agreed to keep this partnership with open sources, it might be totally differenty and LG is not using any special hardware which is closedsource NDA based. so probably based on buying a techkit from an electronics store where no licence is to be paid.

Evidences? No problem. Google checked the Galaxy Nexus and found out a serious bug at the emmc (or something like that). Then Samsung used it in the Galaxy Note (first one) and they got bricks...
And about warranty, at an Israeli forum we contact Google to ask them about warranty, and they said they are responsible for it..
Owned a Optimus One. Rock solid. Still works. I'm not concerned about buying a LG Nexus 4.

Never even considered an LG before. And wouldn't have but for the fact that it's a Nexus device.
I had an Optimus 2X, hardware was fine… it was the software that was crap.
owned a G2X.
Sold it for an Xperia S.
Now I don't know if it was a right decision.
But the right decision is to get the N4.

If we're going by their dumb/featurephones, I had a Samsung slider whose sliding functionality got really rough after about a year (it didn't slide nearly as smoothly as when I bought it). Sounds about right, really.

I owned a LG Optimus One (p500) . Pretty good device. Now my mom uses it with CM9 without any problem
Owned a G2x and it was freaking terrible. I read all of the forums where people complained about random reboots and overheating and ignored them all. About a week or 2 after I purchased it I started getting reboots and my phone would get hot too. Don't just take my word for it. Remember LG just let the phone die and never really tool responsibility for it. They wrote the G2x off.
I'm not one of those uber-geeks who demands 0 light bleed or care if I can root it right away but after my G2x experience I vowed to never buy another LG phone again. But here I am. I too am torn between my horrible experience with LG vs. my love of Nexus phones. I think in this case, I'll wait a few weeks to see how the forums sound with first adapters and go from there.
My last five phones have all been LG. I had two dumb phones; the same dumb phone, actually. I used to be really horrible with cell phones (my record is eleven phones in one year) so after that particular phone had enough abuse, I bought it again since I liked it so much.
My first smartphone was the Optimus M from Metro, followed by the Optimus V on Virgin Mobile. When I joined my mom's family plan on T-Mobile, I stuck to what I know and got the G2x (Optimus 2X).
The hardware is nice. It's solid built phone with great specs. It's actual performance, though, was lack luster. I expected a lot more from that phone and I had issues with it that I didn't have on the two low end Optimus devices I owned prior. However, rooting the phone made a HUGE difference in performance and made my phone so much better. Also, I"m sure different users have difference experiences with that phone. My mom has the same phone, but has never had a single complaint about it like I have.
I was in the whole "LG never again camp, but it was confirmed LG was making the Nexus and it was being sold for the price it's being sold for. I'm hoping that, being a Nexus, I won't experience the same problems that I did with my G2x. Despite my history with the G2x, I am more than likely DEFINITELY going to buy the Nexus 4. I will, however, wait for the early adopters to get theirs so we can have some real reviews by real people before I spend money on it, but I'm pretty sure I will own it by December.
My original plan was just to get the Galaxy Nexus to hold me over until my contract was up in July, then either check out the latest and greatest from Android or switch to Windows Phone. Since the Nexus 4 is being sold for the same price as the Galaxy Nexus, though, I'm just going to buy that, then move myself to a contract free plan in July.
So, yeah... this is going to be my sixth LG phone in a row. I've only had ONE bad experience with them and Nvidia can actually take part of the blame for that so it isn't all LG. Still, with the right ROM (currently running CM10 Paranoid Android), I do enjoy my G2x. I'm almost confident that Nexus 4 will by fine out of the box and it will definitely be a noticeable upgrade for me.

The Nexus 4 without any doubt.
But if your budget allows, you may wait and see what samsung has to offer. Also, you can consider the HTC One.

budget is not a big problem but why buy cheap phones when cheaper 1s can do the same or even be better
the htc one i was thinking about to get but i dont like the not removable batterie and that there u cant use a sd card thats a big letdown
the s4 is big as the s3 or even bigger i guess :X dont want a phat phone like that its kinda like a tablet lol
If you want removable battery & SD card then your choices are limited.
S3 is not a lot bigger than the HD2 & has removable battery & SD slot plus prices have dropped a lot. Another plus point is strong custom ROM development & device specific apps that can make ownership more pleasurable.
i have the same problem like OP. But I want an open source Phone.
But i think HD2 is the only one around here.
I like Windows Phone, because I think it has many potential. But I also like Android, bevcause of costumisation. But I also hate Android, because of the stupid app-menue, and bull****-marketplace.

I 'tried to get you' (see what I did there?) but I couldn't. Y U NO MAKE SENSE?
@OP I can very strongly recommend the Nexus 4. Don't bother with a One, there's no significant advantage to getting it over a N4 and definitely no justification of the extra cost. The GS3 is a great device and runs very well, but having used a N4 I genuinely see a difference in speed between the two. If money isn't an issue and you're adamant about having an SD slot and removable battery, wait for the GS4 and get one of those instead. It's expected to launch fairly soon and I think you'd regret buying a One right now when the GS4 will almost certainly be better.
If you're used to the 'hackability' of the HD2, the last thing you want to do is buy a current HTC device. Believe me, I've been there Their developer support is lame and their warranty policy is dreadful (and illegal in Europe, although I haven't seen that put to the test yet) the first thing they do when they receive a device is send you an invoice to repair or even return the device to you if it's bootloader unlocked, even if the fault has nothing to do with software. Plus, their idea of a bootloader unlock isn't really what most used to older HTC devices (S-Off) are used to...
I think the Nexus 4 is probably about the best option right now. It doesn't have an SD card slot. It doesn't have a removable battery (although the battery is pretty easy to replace when it wears out, it's just four screws and a bit of coercion.) Those two alone are going to be dealbreakers for some, and for the remaining people, the glass back might be an issue. I'm not going to lie, it's not ideal. I'd like the hardware of the Nexus 4 in the chassis of the HTC One X, myself (I don't like aluminium phones, they dent and look ugly in no time)
The only other things really worth considering are Sony devices - the Xperia Z looks pretty tasty, since they have a similar level of developer support and the company has made a really good effort to support the development community and AOSP in general. However, you have to be careful as operator branded Sony devices are locked down like Fort Knox (no bootloader unlock at all AFAIK.)
Samsung are going very much in the direction of HTC these days with regard to developer support (e.g. crap.) On top of that, I personally wouldn't buy a Samsung device because they keep releasing buggy hardware (S2, Note 1, S3, Note 2) with serious flaws that kill the devices, and their patches for these issues are a) dodgy code and b) don't appear to totally eliminate the SoD issue on the S3/Note 2. I'd be more forgiving if it weren't for the fact that the eMMC bugs traverse several generations of Samsung devices and now I suspect they just have crap quality control. I don't really like the idea of paying to beta test hardware for them :-/
Some good points in post above.
I was keen on S3 because of sd slot, removable battery & easy use of dual sim card adaptor but Samsung QC & pi55 poor service in my region made me change my mind on that.
Really is not that many really good spec phones available at the moment, most lack sd slots which works out expensive per Gb of storage & if phone dies so does the data.
Maybe worth some reinvesting in another HD2 or repairing the one they already have as current selection falls short for the prices they retail for ...
Umm buy another Le

Galaxy Note 2 - Is it still worth it

I currently use a Galaxy s3 and I have been pretty happy with it but the thing is that i want to change my smartphone but right now things got a little tight.
I originally planned to get a galaxy note 3 but it will be too expensive and it will be for sure just released in telcel (Mexican carrier) but I hate them.
So I thought to get a nexus 4 now that it is 200 dollars but I could afford a note 2 so what would you recommend guys the nexus or the note 2?!?!
Its still worth the price undoubtedly

Never been more happy with a phone than with the Note 2 I've had a lot of phones...
I think that the note 3 will be like the s4. Not big enough upgrade to justify the price.
1080p is nothing you need on a 5-6" screen. 3GB ram is not needed now. And i think that note 3 will just add more gimmick (i've turned everything from samsung off on my note 2).
The nexus is sweet but once you go for a Note, there is no way back
Totally worth for each penny you spend..it's too cheap now compared to launch price..note3 will be undoubtedly good than note2 but note2 is still a beast and has nice specs..
Believe me ,my 8 friends bought note2 after using my note2 for a day!!
But if u have money plant growing in ur backyard than wait for note3
Sent from my AweSoMe ☆♥Note2♥☆
Hmm, I would say now. Not because note 2 is not that good but because there is another option.
Buy the extra battery from Samsung, the 3100 mah and you will enjoy s3 more. Note 2 is just big screen and awesome battery. With my suggestion you will have a normal screen with awesome battery.
This is note even a question in my books.
Had (still have in my drawer) Note 1 and Are now a proud Note 2 owner!
And as many has said before, It just a great phone.
Specially with the great battery and lovely screen. And that it(some models) can easily be modded for induction charging or wireless charging as someone wrongly calls it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986016

I don't get this changing for changing-sake thing so many do, and if things are "a little tight" to boot, as you say they are, well, I better bite my tongue...
Anyway, my opinion: the Nexus 4 is a fragile, small non-expandable internal storage, non-removable battery useless P.O.S.
(If things weren't a little tight) I would definitely get a Note II, I don't know in Mexico but here in Italy there are now amazing deals on it.
Since we don't know Note III's specs yet and the Note III is, to me, the ONLY better alternative to the Note II among both the smartphones on the market today and those announced for the near future, the Note II is still the best smartphone in the world right now. Hands down. Far and away.
I have used all galaxy s series. I can honestly tell you that NOTe 2 is the best thing Samsung has ever made. In terms of performance, it beets everything. Just buy it over anything and you won't ever regret it. I believe it will still remain strong for another couple of years.
Yes it is still worth it. I think its't the best on the market at the moment with battery life. But not only the battery life is great, everything on this super phone is great.
this is the best time to get the note 2
prices are much lower, great exchange deals in some places
sds problem dealt with, saner chips coming now, efs hurdle under the belt
forum has all solutions worked out, 4.3 is getting better by the day,
learning my android on me note 2....
i think i might keep this device and not use it for trading for my next
s4 screen is really enticing though, i just couldnt take my eyes off
ill wait for the prices to come down or a second hand piece some time later
Depends on what you want, both the note 2 and the nexus 4 have respectable hardware specs, however there are other issues present.
Note 2 pros: excellent battery, great screen for pretty much anything (watching movies, reading ebooks, etc), pressure sensitive stylus (must have for digital artists), expandable storage, multi-window (gimmick for some, must have for others).
Nexus 4 pros: fast updates on the os.
So if your gonna get a note 2 and whine about samsung never updating the software, go grab yourself a nexus 4 and enjoy the slick goodness of google updates (as well as the buggy versions), if you can live with outdated os, then grab a note 2 and see how awesome a phablet is!

I love my Note 2. It's the first Android device I ever used that was so good out of the box I did not feel like wasting my time with custom ROMS. If you can get a good price, by all means buy it.
I Switched to Nokia Lumia 925 and havnt looked back since !!
Lemme begin with telling you that I have been an Android veteran since last many yrs !!!
Galaxy S > Galaxy SII > HTC One X > Samsung Note 2 > Nokia Luma 925
I was a complete Flashoholic with all my Android devices. And i thought that was fun ! But the constant struggle to have a smoother rom, better battery, better memory management, Sammy vs CM vs MIUI etc etc etc was unsettling !
I am sure most of you can relate well.
But eventually i got fed up of searching for the iOS smoothness in Android.
I switched to Windows phone, specifically Nokia Lumia 925 and havnt been happier !
# U dont have to do any **** on this device to make it run like butter !!!
# Now the time i spend with my phone is quality, usefull time. That i enjoy ! Rather than looking for glitches here n there. Checking out the smoothness etc etc ----> TRUST ME U THINK U LOVE DOING THAT ??? TRY THIS. ITS A LOT MORE FULFILLING.
# Apps ---> no apps ?? are u kidding me ? 6Tag for instagram is better than the orignial on iOS and Android !! YouTube app "myTube" is lightyears ahead of original google app !! IN EVERY DEPARTMENT !! Let me put this clearly, most of the Improtant apps that we use. Its there !! dont go on numbers, go on quality !!!
Talking about Quality... Just go and check out "NDTV"(indian news app) app on both android and WP. SEE THE DIFFERENCE. Android is like a honda. WP is a freaking BENTLEY !!! The finish, the quality, the lay out !!! Pure eyecandy ! This is seen in several/most of the apps on these platforms. And yes no issues with GMAIL n Contacts with google. They all sync well with inbuilt apps.
I am not trying to sell WP here. All i am saying if your spending so much on such high end devices, u might as well want peace of mind and quality with it !
I am finally SATISFIED with my device. I was thinking ill miss flashing roms and all. But i was wrong.
PS: When i used a friends WP for a few mins several weeks back, i dint like it. But now a thought of Android scares me !
At the end, its your choice ! Best of luck !

You lost all credibility after that.
I don't understand why you felt the need to post your "Goodbye" in this thread. But cya!
My advice is to wait until you can afford a Note 3, or wait for the next nexus.
What's wrong with the S3 you have anyways?
I don't see the point of of getting a Note 2 when you have an S3. The experience is largely the same on these two devices, other than the s pen and bigger screen and battery on the Note.

[Q] Please help out!

Hello,
I am considering buying the Nexus4. Just had a few questions-
1) Is it still relevant to buy one? Or is it already outdated?
2) what is the customer support like in Kolkata? Like service centre-wise?
3) Would you suggest buying S4 mini over this phone? Or maybe some other phone? ( I want to stay in the same price range- so please dont suggest N5)
Also,I am technological- jargon challenged. So, please explain in simple terms. I do not wish to take over the world with my super duper android phone I would only use my phone to read/browse the net ( mainly) , take random selfies, set alarms and text/call. That is it. I also need a sturdy phone. I wont play rugby with it but i dont want it to shatter if it by chance drops from my hand.
So in view of the above information, should I go in for a nexus4?
The Nexus 4 is still a great device even today, if you don't have the budget for a Nexus 5.
1) It's still going to have a few more Android updates headed its way before it reaches end-of-life like the Galaxy Nexus; so I think it's fair to say it's still relevant among phones today.
2) Can't really comment on that since I don't live in India.
3) The S4 Mini is inferior to the Nexus 4 both specification-wise and software-wise. You'll see slow updates on it since it's not a Samsung flagship, and internally, it's a lot worse. The S4 Mini has a dual-core processor compared to the Nexus 4's quad-core S4 Pro.

you maybe could buy an moto g, price and power are awsome!.. or the nexus 5
Great phone!
Dont waste your money over S4 Mini, better buy Nexus 4 which is still a great performing device, or the all new Moto G and save some money. I won't upgrade to new Nexus device before devs stop to develop great ROMs for this phone.
1. It is more up to date than any other non-Nexus devices software wise. Hardware it's still very fast. The camera is acceptable for the price you pay, if you want better camera you have to spend more.
3. All Galaxy mini's are junk (sorry but they are). Don't even hope for much updates with it. It's not underperforming, but the bloated Samsung software wears it down and will become outdated on it very soon.
You might want to look up the Moto G and see if it's available where you are, it have very decent spec with stock Android and very affordable price, a better phone than the S4 mini imo. S4 mini might have 8mp pixel camera that is probably better. But Moto G fair better and will be more relevant in the long run with 720p display, newer software, and now being owned by Google, the phone will likely get good updates. KitKat makes a big improvement in performance gain, this is coming from a Nexus owner. The Moto G is supposed to be tuned slightly better for battery life as well, so it should beat the S4 mini in that department with reports of 6 hours screen on time.
