apparently att has a max hspa+ speed of 21mbps whereas tmobiles hspa+ has a max speed of 42mbps. im on att right now and im thinking imma switch to the tmobile prepaid unlimited everything plan for $70/month on hspa+42
If I'm correct its pentaband meaning it runs 3g and HSPA+ so if you are in an area that doesn't get good hspa+ at least you'll have 3g

you could also consider Straight Talk for unlimited everything for 45 a month, Simple mobile which uses tmobile for 50 bux a month and no throttling, also tmobile has a 30 a month plan for 5gig of data and 100 talk min (useful if u use groove ip or VOIP)
Isn't T-mobile 50 bucks a month for everything, with no contract =0?

They also have a $30 monthly plan with unlimited data/text and 100 minutes of talk time if you sign up on T-Mobile.com (or Walmart)...and I am considering that switch.
It would be nice if the N4 supported Wi-Fi calling.

Has anyone been able to switch to a 4G unlimited data plan (in the NYC area)? If so, details please. I'm having issues.
There is no specific "4g" plan, it's all just considered the data plan. If you want unlimited though, you can easily get the medianet $10/$15 plan as your phone is not one AT&T provides. You'll get all the benefits of "4g" a.k.a. HSPA+.

Seriously? I thought there was a 4g unlimited plan, along with an iPhone unlimited plan, and 3G smartphone unlimited plan.
Anyway, I have the iPhone unlimited plan and thought I could upgrade to the 4G one just to get faster speeds.
I'm currently getting the H+ signal and maxing at 3.3 Mbps download but averaging at 2 Mbps. I thought I could go faster...
There's no separate plan, its all the same data plan. Do some tests at night to check faster download speeds when the network is not so congested.

Just wondering, what's the difference between the $10 plan and the $15 plan? Never got a straight answer as to the differences of them.

Dude, that is just our area, highest I've ever hit is 6.5/7 (and that was once, ever). It'll get better as we get different modems too.
The $10 is for the ones who pay the $30/month family unlimited messaging plan, otherwise it's $15.
Thinking of jumping ship to tmobile since 4G has never been offered in my area for Sprint. Also the pricing is a little better than Sprint? However outside of my area service is non-existent unless I force my phone into roaming? I like the data plan Sprint has but believe Sprint will change there data plan in the coming months. With that I will be grandfathered in until my contract ends. So if someone could tell me if they have trouble with data and signal or if it is great, or what they have to do get signal since tmobile is gsm instead of cdma?

What?!?!
I'm not sure what you are asking. Not knowing where you are at, generally speaking if you have good sprint signal you would have good t-mobile signal. If you do not have good sprint signal, you may have just as poor t-mobile signal as their tower footprints are similar. If you live out from a city or something, AT&T or most especially Verizon have much larger footprints.
Do you mean they have a better price but for less services? Like not having unlimited texting or something? I thought Sprint had the best price.

I believe the pricing is very similar, but you get speed cut back on data once you go over the limit of your specific plan. Sprint data on thier network is not throttled or limited.

Sprint and Tmobile have very good signal in my area. However No 4G for Sprint, but 4G for Tmobile is here. Once you leave my city since I travel outside it for work alot the signal fades. I then use "ROAM Control" to force into to roam mode. I need to know is there a way to force Roaming on the Nexus S or any other phone on the TMobile network?
US Cellular is very good in the rural areas but it is CDMA and the pricing is quite a bit higher.
Well TMobile post paid plans are better, I think for 45 dollars you get, one hundred mins, unlimited texts, and five gbs of data

Sprint is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM, the phones are not interchangable on each other's network. You would have to get a GSM phone, and it would have to have T-Mobile specific frequencies for HSPDA+ (Their "4G" which is 1700mhz, different that AT&T's 1900mhz) in order to get 4G speeds.

I bought my phone (i9020T) used for around 200, but you can still find new ones around on the internet for I think around 400-500 USD maybe cheaper if you can find a good deal. The i9023 (the SLCD screen) is usually cheaper. I found some online for around 300 - 350 USD. Both the i9023 and the i9020T will work with 3G on T-Mobile's network. The data speeds I get are quite good as well. Some places I'll get as much as 5 megs down but the norm is usually around 3 to 4 for me. There are no limitation with the plan really that I can think of. I mean the only thing is that you only get 100 minutes but I've bought Groove IP (VOIP app in the Play Store) so essentially I have unlimited minutes now as well. Only paying $30 a month.
All you have to do is get a T-Mobile prepaid sim from the website and pop it in the phone and you're good to go.
I did exact as user above, $30 and then Groove IP. For my location T-Mobile is vastly faster, but you have to check your location coverage. In big cities Sprint can be fast. Since their phone is CDMA they don't use SIM so their phones goes for slighty lower value. You can get Sprint Nexus S cheaper than GSM version.
Check here for some prepaid plans: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21604722&postcount=2
I hope this doesn't seem like an ass move but, but I have a Nexus S t-mobile for sale.
I can't wait my etc goes down to a hundred in a month, I'm debating just going galaxy nexus or HTC one x, either one that's for sale at best buy and use that buy back plan which my girl didbwith her new iPhone 4s she's been guarenteed 400 bucks before six months, it almost worth it to be a phone whore

I like the Pre-Paid Montly plans in T-Mobile.
$30 100 mins/UL SMS/ 5GB 4G data Walmart and online?
$30 1500 min-SMS /30Mb
$50 UL min/UL SMS/ UL Data(1st 100 mb at 4G)
$60 UL /UL /UL Data (1st 2GB 4G)
I use the $50, You can change every month to any of the plans.
Tip :If you buy the Card in Calling Mart $100 goes for $95 no tax charged.
So if you pick the $50 it would be like paying around 44+Tax in a post paid (Yes $44 for an unlimited everything).
About Signal, I don't have problems, ATT is a little better(3G+) but much more expensive.
Now I don't like Sprint or Verizon because I like the flexibility of having a GSM unlocked phone.
I'm looking for a cheap prepaid network based with GSM so that I can get off my family's plan once out contract is up and save them some money. I want to buy an unlocked Note or Nexus to use on the network. Mainly all I want is a decent amount of Data (2GB would work fine cause I hardly even use half a gb a month on Sprint), unlimited texting(I text alot), and maybe around 450 minutes for calling. Plus I want to be able to keep the phone number I have now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and any links to websites with details would be even better. Thanks in advance!

That was exactly my thing; left my family's Sprint plan for Straight Talk AT&T and absolutely loving it. Unlimited text, Unlimited minutes, and psuedo-Unlimited data (Over 2GB is getting into cancellation territory, but with you're usage you're more than safe). About $50 a month after taxes. Make sure you pick "AT&T Compatible SIM" when you buy from http://straighttalk.com so you get AT&T coverage. The SIM will work in unlocked phones or locked AT&T phones (it pretends to be an AT&T SIM). So even a locked iPhone would work. I've had no issues with them so far and been with them for a month. Getting full HSPA+ speeds, which is anywhere from 2-5 Mbps on average. But depending on where you are you might get more (HSPA+ tops off at 21 Mbps). You can port your number over. Don't cancel with Sprint though otherwise your number will be gone. You port the number on Straight Talk's end and then your Sprint line will be cancelled. I personally ported my number to Google Voice and use that to forward to whatever number Straight Talk gave me, so I can dial in and out with my real number. And I use the Voice app for texting and voicemail. Works great because then you can text from your real number from your computer or tablet too

I've been thinking about either Straight Talk with ATT SIM, or T-Mobile's prepaid service. Not sure. I really haven't done my research on which carrier has better service in my area. If T-Mobile has better service, I'm going with their prepaid plan due to a higher data limit (I believe I can get a 5GB limit, the reason why I don't use much data on Sprint is due to the horrible data speeds. Still have to look into the details on that.)

If you're referring to T-Mobile's $30 plan with 5 GB of data and unlimited texting, it only includes 100 minutes. Plus you're pretty limited on phone selection if you plan on using international phones since they mostly use AT&T's 3G/4G bands.

Straight Talk has SIM cards for either AT&T bands or T-Mobile. I started with AT&T and switched to a T-Mobile card here in Miami and the T-Mobile speeds are way better than AT&T. On AT&T I was constantly getting 500-600 kbps on the downstream and now I'm never less than 1500. Just make sure your device is compatible with the appropriate carrier's network or you'll be stuck on EDGE until the 30 days are up.

I used T-Mobile's $30 plan with my Galaxy Nexus. Worked great of course. From an AT&T MVNO, you can usually get unlimited minutes and texts, and 2GB's of data for around $55.
I was on Straight Talk(AT&T sim), but I really disliked the unknown data limit. Some days, I'm on wifi all day, while other days I download a 512MB's worth of files.

If it's not good, ill keep that plan as a backup and try an AT&T sim on Straight Talk, just in case that if I don't like the service on AT&T's network compared to TMo, I could switch back to T-Mobile's prepaid and keep the $30/month with 5GB unlimited.

Currently I have a GS3 that I'm paying $90+ a month to a contract with AT&T. I'm definitely getting a Nexus 4, but am trying to decide if I go prepaid with T-Mobile, or AT&T. I'm assuming there would be no carrier restrictions (ie: I have a international i9300 GS3, but still can't installed Google Wallet through the Play Store because of AT&T). Anybody have experience with either? I'm in SoCal so service should be good in my area. Would AT&T have a problem if I cancelled my contact then went to prepaid?
Go with Straight talk prepaid. You can choose to use them on att or T-Mobiles towers. They sell standard and micro sim cards. I have been using them in my nexus. Love it. $45 a month unlimited everything. Hspa+ speeds.

Nice! Are you using AT&T or T-Mobile towers? By the time the N4 comes out, I'll have $200 left for my ETA, but if I can save $40-50 a month, I'll be "ahead" in 5 months.
Go with T-mobile's $30/month with 5gb of 4G, Unlimited text and 100 mins. You can't beat it. I believe Straight Talk is still capped at 2GB of H+ data but im not sure. I've been using Tmobile's 30/month for over a year now...best decision i have ever made. Went from a family plan paying more than $200/month to just $120 for 4 phones. Can't get any better than that.

Why not get Tmobile value plan?
500 mins: 35$
2Gb 4g data then throttled to 2g: 10$
So the total is 45$ and use google voice for text for free. Or add it for 5$.
Caveat: 2 year contract.

At that point, why not just go with their "Bring your own device" plan?
500 minutes = unlimited text = unlimited data (2GB at 4G speeds) = $49.99/month
extra $10/mo for unlimited minutes, or $10/mo for unlimited data with no throttle, or $20/mo for both.

I was really impressed when I heard that Simple Mobile uses T-Mobiles frequency and SM also have HSPA+. What I really didn't like was the fact that their 3G is really slow . Before throttle my speed would be 12 down and 2 up, after throttle it would stick as 0.23 kbps down and 0.10 kbps up. My question is how is the 3G on T-Mobile? I heard that they increased the speed on 3G for T-Mobile. I'm really considering of doing the 50$ plan for T-Mobile (i use up a lot of minutes). If I get throttled how fast is 3G? Is it as close as their HSPA+? I dont mind the 3G speed as long as its good enough speed. I know they have the 30$ plan with 5gb of data, but like I said I tend to use up a lot of minutes.

What plan on SIMPLE do you have? While $40 is 250 MB High Speed data, then throttled to 2G, their $50 plan has unlimited High Speed Data.
It they throttle you on the $50 plan, I would call them and ask WTF?
If you need tethering, then switching to T-Mobile makes more sense.

T-Mobile users get priority over simple users. Something to consider.
