Okay, the screen wakes up when I simply pick up the device, is there anyway to turn this feature off? Often I do not want to turn it on, I'm simply picking it up to take it with me somewhere and it's quite annoying. I searched for similar experiences and I haven't found anyone that has addressed this. Thanks in advance.

Hey all, recently i've found that when I press the power button once to turn the screen off, it pauses any music that is playing..i'm quite sure it never used to do this though. I'd like to know if anyone has experienced similar problems, and found a solution? Many thanks in advance..if I haven't explained clearly, please feel free to ask me any questions

I read that someone disabled the feature to wake the phone by approaching it. They said they had it set so the phone would wake only when they grabbed/moved it.
Is this possible? From what I have read, the wave to wake feature is actually gone. It has been replaced by the reach to wake feature.
My question is this. Can I disable the phone from waking when my hand goes near it, while having the phone wake when I physically move it? Someone mentioned they can wake the phone by tapping, since this would cause the phone to move. I would like to do this too. Thanks.

I just tested this for you. You disable moto notifications from reacting when you reach for the phone but it still turns on once picked up. So yes.

Thank you.
Always-on OK Google is awesome, but for some reason it only turns on the screen about half the time for me.
When it doesn't turn the screen on, it still listens and reacts to commands though, but without the screen on I can't see what it's doing so I still have to manually press the power button to turn on the screen to see the results, effectively defeating the purpose of having it always on (for hands-free operations).
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Is there a solution?
Did you turn on Smart lock for OK google?

I did turn on Smart Lock, with trusted devices, trusted places, trusted face and trusted voice enabled.
Yeah I see it... it seems a little buggy, but for me it *always* comes on if it is locked. Not so much when it is unlocked (just sleeping).
I set the screen to lock 5 seconds after screen sleeps.

Thanks for the confirmation. Come to think of it I only started to notice this issue after I set the screen to lock 5 minutes after the screen sleeps. I'm now setting it to 1 minute instead to get a better compromise between OK-Google-ability and convenience of not having to unlock while I use the phone frequently.
Hopefully Google will come around to fix this obvious bug in the not-too-distant future too.

Seems to help. But still inconsistent.
I use my phone a ton for calls , imagine that .
Lately when I put a call on speaker, the screen will not turn off. It will not time out and even if I press the power button to shut the screen off manually, it just comes right back on.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so have you been able to correct it?
p.s. this has only been happening in the past week or so and I can't think of anything I did or any updates that would have caused this.
Thanks
I'm experiencing this same thing. Tried multiple things and even did a hard reset and the issue still persists. Very annoying.
I found a workaround where if I come out of the phone app, then I can lock the screen.
got the same thing. i read something on AC( think it was) regarding the calendar notifications not allowing the screen to go dark too. i wake up, my phone is super hot if i have an all day appt with a notification. did yall find a fix to this? the other forum mentioned possible connection to samsung pay.
Having the same issue. The screen does not turn off when holding the phone to my ear or when I'm using bluetooth headset.
Hi, I just got my Galaxy s8 about 3 weeks ago. I've had very little in the way of problems with it. Well, except one thing... Everytime I make a call on it the screen will wake up at random. It doesn't matter if it's a call from the installed phone app or hangouts. I thought this might have something to do with the apps edge so I disabled that. Didn't fix it. I thought it might be the home button so I put it on the lowest sensitivity. Didn't fix it. I frequently call while laying in bed (who wants to hold a phone up all the time?) so the phone is between my head and a pillow. When the screen wakes up it clicks and than shuts off after five seconds because I turned on the keep off when in pocket or whatever it's called in settings. Before I turned that on the screen would stay on and buttons would get pressed usually ending up with me ending a call. I still think it's the home button but I'm not sure how to fix it. It anyone has any ideas or has the same issue please let me know.

Proximity sensor is working though.. I have no way to test it properly but if I place my hand near it the screen goes black and when I move it it lights up again. It also doesn't make the click
Had this bug on every device
So it's just a bug? No fix currently? I'm just wondering because I haven't seen anyone talking about this specific issue before ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm also suffering from this issue
