As you know you can get usb sd card readers. But these are quite big.
I wonder if a micro usb version exists that's quite flat. It would make the 16gb version a viable option.
Do you think something like this will work?

Someone posted this in another thread.
We need either a micro usb version of this:

Or this with a very small usb to micro usb converter. Smallest I could find;

Edit.
This might be better as it supports up to 64gb micro sd cards;

Bah, that micro-USB/USB adapter is enormous. I'm pretty sure they're extremely simple devices, since they're both USB so it just means that corresponding pins need to be connected. So why are they so huge? You could make one that was only as long as the necessary connectors, and it would be nearly invisible when it was actually hooked up.
I remembered reading a thread asking this over on the Nexus 7 forum:

Going deeper into that thread I discovered this:

LET'S FUND THIS! I would love for someone to manufacture this, even if I don't end up getting a nexus 10, it will mean any nexus device can use MicroSD no matter what!
Also, this does exist now, but this is ugly and bulky compared to the 3d rendered final product in the product linked above, and it doesn't say if it supports SDXC or not

Lets keep up the excitement people...
I hope the SD card slot is on top this time!! Nothing like the Wi-Fi SD card I'm going to buy sticking out the bottom!
If you look well, you can see it is on the BOTTOM!
the xda2 wifi card is said to be an extra, doesn't say anything about taking up the valuable sd slot. assumed it'll be use someother possibly internal way of connecting?
any thoughts folks, wifi at the expense of the SD slot doesn't seem a fair trade off
At the end of the year , Sandisk will produce SD card both wifi and memory ...
The WiFi is on the lines of a new rear battery cover, or small enough to go under the battery cover, and connects to the port behind the battery cover. Well this is what i have been told by the boys at o2

Which is not necessarily good as it implies a proprietary peripheral - which usually translates to OVERPRICED peripheral. I hope this is inaccurate - or that the SDIO/memory devices will have drivers (and the HTC device no barriers to their use).
A custom made xda wifi adapter must be the best way to go. may cost more but it'll much better than having some SD memory/wifi combo sticking out of the bottom!!
It'll be super neat to have it internally mounted, where as the SD slot being on the bottom would be a real pain in the ass.
Hey, I really need some help with this if someone can provide any, or if there is any. Is there any possible way to get my ppc, HTC Vogue/Touch CDMA Alltel, to read files thats on a 1gig flash drive I have? Is there any software that would do it or any other way possible? Someone please help me out with this.
Sorry For Leaving this Out
Sorry I didn't mention this, but it has to be done without the help of a desktop or laptop. It really needs done between the phone and the flash drive. Thanks in advance for any help?
USB flash drive. Cant be done.....No usb host!
Get one of those usb/micro sd readers!

That doesn't answer the original question. I highly doubt there is a way for your phone to read data directly from a usb flash drive.
The only thing I can think of is if you get a Female Standard USB to Male MiniUSB converter, if that even exists. Good luck.
since MiniUSB works on the same protocol i doubt it CAN'T be done.. the whole reading part is just software.

does this support SDHC?
For the device to be able to use USB as a host, it must support USB OTG (on the go). This is hardware and as of yet, no HTC Device has the suitable hardware.
Like i said no usb host even if u somehow get it connected it still wont work.
Cardriver- i have similar one like in the picture and it does support SDHC cards
hi,
i am a new diamond 2 user and i want to ask if you can by any way or cable or adapter or something plug a normal usb2.0 like corsair voyager to my diamond 2 and be able to read the content with the phone.
if anyone knows how please tell me
thank you
No, it does not support USB Host...
Sadly, the various USB drivers floating around the site don't enable USB host function on our Diamond 2's!
However, this little gadget allows you to plug your USB key into the microSD slot. Am sorely tempted, but I can't decide if the price is worth it for the likely infrequency with which I'd be using it!

Pesky double post....
It looks tempting, but I wonder if the phone would provide enough power for a USB stick through its microSD slot?
Also, the sheer physical bulk would put a lot of strain on the tiny slot.
It also states "For mobile/cell phone, SmartPhone or PDA - any model with external microSD or SD socket.", and also states "N.B. Please ensure compatibility with your device." Not only contradictory, but how are you going to ensure compatibility before you buy?
We need a guinea pig to buy one

i don't care if it has cables or anything...i just want to read and write contents from usb. like the usb extenders for pcs something like that.
edit: no answers...that means that no one tried it , as i see it the main problem is the power the usb needs. if there is a solution to this please some one tell me!!!
I swear I saw a thread about this but I couldn't find it. So I figured I'd share this with everyone. It so simple its stupid!!! Thanks Samsung for making a completely useless multimedia dock and forcing me to make one myself.

....figured I would link these together for the other helpful info over there.
Do you or can anyone tell me if the HDMI and the usb are operable at the same time? I have an in-car custom set up I'm planning and I think I have it but I need to know if they'll work together. I only need the 30pin to usb cord for charging. The rest of it will run off the HDMI. I could post up a schematic of what I'm trying to do if anyone is interested in helping with the design of the project. Thanks!
I would also like to know if you can use hdmi and usb at the same time. for example you can use an xbox usb pad and hdmi to a tv on the xoom and charge at the same time, could this be done on the 10.1?
Is it mhl. if so it switches between depending on which is plugged in. so its either hdmi or usb not both. dumb i know. it can charge at the same time though.
Recently I have purchased both devices Strong Leap-S1 and Thomson THA100 , both are working fine, I have mounted external SD card on it.
I have noticed that if I run a ftp application on Thomson THA100 I can copy a movie to SD card of it.
However this is not possible on Leap-S1 , I can run ftp on it however I cant write anything on SD card on it. it shows Writing is denied.
May I know how to fix it?
Are you using the same microSD card on both devices? Or, if you are using different microSD cards in each device, are they both formatted the same way?
Is your build for the Strong different than the following:
Strong/HP4005/LAS:10/QTT5.200819.003/C2.0.6_20210317:user/release-keys
What about for the Thomson? Is the build date newer, older, or about the same as the Strong?
Strong licenses the Thomson name from Technicolor (S.A.), and the THA100 is identical to the Leap-S1, save for the color of the case and the remote style.
The firmware is very similar, although the bootloader for each is encrypted differently and there may be other slight differences. But if the build dates are close between the two, the operation of the firmware should be pretty much the same.

I have the same issue, without any solution yet. Is this an issue specific to the Leap S1 box or a general AndroidTV problem?
Same here, really annoyed about this fact. I like to copy movies/shows onto the device, hence I got a 64GB SD card and now I can't use it, but only have like 4GB space available. Why would such a blockade even be implemented?
