I'm using XP SP3 on my laptop. I want to share the internet connection on my laptop with my SGY device, but laptop wifi network is not at all detected on SGY wireless & networks settings. I've tried this tutorial based on SG3 but didn't work for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170232&highlight=adhoc&fb_source=message
Any other way this can be done? Any suggestions/help appreciated.

Hi,
I wonder if it's possible to have internet access on HTC HERO using bluetooth or a sofware through a pc running xp or windows7. It will just be great!
you can use ICS (internet connection sharing) via WiFi. This is super easy on win7. Just create a new Ad-Hoc network and connect with your device. Don't forget to enable ICS in the adapter properties ofc.
Thanks! I'll try it.
the hero cannot detect ad-hoc networks, if you have windows 7, get connectify )connectify.me) and download it, make an infrastructure network and it will work fine
hI,
I have configured an adhoc wireless network. I can connect to it using other laptop and access to the internet. But SGS canĀ“t find that network.
Can someone help?
Android OS doesn't support adhoc wireless.
If your laptop is running Windows 7, give this a try:
http://tameyourpc.blogspot.com/2009/07/windows-7-as-wireless-access-point.html
This will set your laptop up as a wireless AP, not adhoc wireless.
Try Virtual Router also
http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
If you have a Intel W-Lan Chipset you also can download Intel MyWifi to set up your Laptop as a Router. Works very well on mine.
There are lots of Windows 7 WiFi Router softwares.. I have personally used this: http://connectify.me/
connectify.me is mentioned in my link as well. Basically they all use the undocumented Windows 7 feature to make a wireless AP. You can use 3rd party app to configure and enable the feature or just use simple script to do so.
The reason it is undocumented is because the feature does not always work.
Guys, thanks for all replies! I'm running win 7 . My wireless card is: "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG".
Do you know if connectify will work?
EDIT:
I don't have the "Access Point" option! Why?
I just have Ad-Hoc WEP and Open.
This means it won't work?
Hey guys,
I was thinking if there is possibility to share internet connection from my laptop to my HD 2 running Android 2.2. I remember my HD2 when connected to ActiveSync through USB it used laptop's internet.
I also tried to set up an ad-hoc network, HD2 sees it but when I try to connect it says "Disconnected", connecting to other wifi networks is no problem.
My laptop is running Vista64
Any ideas? Thanks for your help, mates!
I have a laptop with wifi.My question is:Can i create acces point with the wifi of the laptop and use this acces point for sharing internet (Lan card, local area connection) and connect with my phone (samsung wave)?? im with win. xp.
Think it should be possible with Windows 7
Also under Windows XP you should be able to create a socalled AdHoc Network. So you can connect via WiFi to your laptop.
There is a good manual when you just google "create ad hoc"

Yes you can! I have done that and i have it until now.

Enjoy your wifi now in both your laptop and mobile.
I Have a windows xp sp3 on my labtop and I use a 3g dongle to connect to internet...but I can't figure out how to share my internet over wifi to be enable to search internet on my NST....I created an ad hoc using my labtop dell wireless manager and shared my internet but It seems like my NST can't find the network (despite the fact that my Nokia N82 finds it and connetcts to web) so I used the connectify app to share my internet but that didn't work either...(It may be me who can't configure the software. I don't know) ...seems like The NST can only find the routers and DSL modems not ad hoc networks...do u guys have any suggestions ????
It's possible that it doesn't support adhoc mode. there a virtual access point app for windows floating around, Google it. If your wifi card supports it, enjoy.

If you want to fiddle, try http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Enable_Adhoc_Networking
It's about NC, you might need another wpa_supplicant for NST tho.
mind if I ask you the name of the app ??
