[Q] update - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi have I missed the update of jelly bean for my nexus as I do not have it on all the time and I have tried updates from within setting but keeps saying my device is up to date on 4.11 jelly bean.

Have you tried the search function there's some good threads and the issue you're having is well covered. First of all have you modded it in any way? Have you tried clearing the data and force stopping Google framework from settings-apps all ? Then try to see if you get. The update.

Nexus 7 not updating from 4.1.1 to 4.2

Hello! I have an unrooted N7 that is stuck with 4.1.1. I regularly get a notification advising me of an update & I run it through the process only to be discouraged to find I'm still stuck with 4.1.1.
Can anyone help? I don't want to root & do a bunch of crazy stuff to get the update. Is there a good fix without rooting?
FYI, I found a "fix" that required turning off WiFi, clearing the some of the systems cache, turning the WiFi back on & searching for an update. No dice...

If you have nothing to lose your best and easiest fix would most likely be to perform a factory reset.

Try applying the update. When your tablet reboots and you see the Android on your screen, hold down the power button then, while holding it down, press volume up. That'll put the stock recovery in verbose mode. When it errors out, post what the text says here.
Similar thing here.

Tried half a dozen times then did a manual forced update using this guide, easy to follow and worked first time.

Yes, I wanted to say this. stay on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2,.... 4.2.x is a piece of crap. Much slower, not the same device at all.
Thanks for advice, then I tried not to update to 4.2 and be happy at stucked 4.1.2
finger crossed and wait for next stable version instead.

4.2.1 is pretty stable, stability is not the problem, but initially it broke a lot of apps compatibility (ok, this will be solved in time), but no matter what I do I have feeling it is slower, and it stutters. I never had this with 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. And I was so happy with my Nexus until 4.2 Anyways, I had 4.2 on my original Nexus, then it died and I sent for repairs, now I have new motherboard (so it counts as different device) and factory-installed 4.2 and it is the same. Even sometimes when playing a game it just stops for a split second... Trust me, new notifications and multi user (if you're not using it) is not worth the smoothness of 4.1.1
Cheers,
D.

Thanks for reply, I'm curious to know as why my N7 stuck at 4.1.2, there may be reason as I tried several times update (reboot and installed, stuck at 4.1.2) no matter how I tried) but I'm peace in mind as 4.1.2 stability.

I'm running baked ROM. Can I just flash the .zip containing the new boot loader and radio from recovery? Do I need to be careful of what my currentg radio is?

If you are running 4.2.1, flashing the radio will break your sensors.

"This" topic? THIS topic? This topic is the point of this entire forum! You can tell that, see, because your thread has the same name as the entire freaking forum.
Why would you try to drive an entire forum's worth of traffic into a single thread?!?
This is a joke.
I am all for people using search to find a specific thread dealing with their question or issue, but the key there is one thread per issue, NOT one thread for all questions and issues ever.
Trying to decrease the usefulness of XDA in order to karmawhore is not cool.

First of all, hello to you to.
I understand your concern but I disagree with you.
You see, this is not a Q&A thread for all questions and answers, it's specific to the Android 4.2.2 update. The reason I wrote the word update in bold is because that is the main issue. People have been asking many questions about the update and in most cases there were repetitive threads with the same exact question. This thread is definitely not decreasing the usefulness of XDA, it is just keeping it cleaner and increasing its efficiency.
I also understand that you want people to search for specific threads regarding their problem but the fact is - most of them don't. Most of them just make another thread, and that is why that method will never work very well.
I also want you to notice that this thread is a sticky, which means the Moderators support it. In fact, I discussed opening this thread with a moderator before I opened it and he gave me the green light.
Anyways, if you have a problem than deal with it, I am not here to fight with anyone, I'm just here to help.

Re: [OFFICIAL] Nexus 4 Android 4.2.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting Thread
I hope someone confirm .33 baseband working with 4.2.2. Because with .48 i'm experiencing data drops.
Re: [OFFICIAL] Nexus 4 Android 4.2.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting Thread
I updated my SDK... I can get IN ADB just fine. However, once I get into the part eye I enter "ADB SIDELOAD UPDATE. ZIP" the response is "Can not read "sideload".
So basically it works with all commands but doesn't know what sideload means from what I gather from 3 hours wasted doing it over and over.
Anyone know how to fix this or what exactly is the issue?
I'm 100% stock by the way guys.

Just name the file 'update'. Windows auto names extensions. So if you name it update.zip the files is actually update.zip.zip

I can confirm that I still have data drops with latest update BUT the switch wifi/3G works better and download speed is better too.
So I won't come back to old baseband which is worse in my case.

I'm stock, rooted, and installed this only mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36316048&postcount=78
Can I install the 4.2.2 with no worries? or because I had installed the above mod - I have to flash a factory image first?

Does 4.2.2 fix either of the following issues which I have with my rev 10 4.2.1 Nexus 4?
- wireless charging with the Nokia DT-900 constantly cycles on and off
- wifi connections are forgotten, i.e. after making a connection the N4 not only loses it, but cannot see or list the network any longer

I know. I didn't add a extra zip name to it. The issue is the command "sideload" as it seems adb doesn't recognize it. Hence the error message.

question about 4.3 update

so before i had my nexus 4 rooted, and now i just updated to 4.3 via OTA.
do i need to do the unlock and root thing all over again from the beginning, as I did with 4.2?
BTW, where is the "thank you" button people have been talking about, there are posts i really to "thank" but i never found the "thank you" button. i might being dumb but plz do tell me.
actually i got a "fallen on the ground" Android while doing OTA. should i refer to any other upgrade method? or just choose wipe to factory reset?
Normally even with root, you can do an OTA update and it would be fine, but it seems that 4.3 has changed something and loads of people are having problems when doing OTA update while rooted. I would highly suggest doing a factory reset before updating to 4.3.

Seems I'm in luck (except for losing root). Coming from rooted 4.2.2 I installed the OTA without errors.
My build is: JWR66V, I saw there also is another build.
Is there a problem with only one build?
god my screen has been stuck with the big X for quite a long time. guess I need to do some bootload and wipe?
omg it just keeps rebooting after every 10 minutes of use. damnit

Android 4.3 brings trim, I hope we also get the update

Check this out!
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7185/android-43-update-brings-trim-to-all-nexus-devices
It seems that Android 4.3 finally brings TRIM to the game. Now I also want 4.3
Let's hope Motorola brings an update.
I hope for Android 5.0 - this is the **** that will bring the future, serious performance improvements , and MUST HAVE on my phone. Android 4.3 and 4.2 are small updates for me.

5.0 is nothing but rumors, you'll wait a ton of time before getting it, even on a nexus. 4.3 or even 4.2.2 is the best we can do now.
I'm more worried about the Maps version that will come with 4.3, because Maps 7.x kills the Navigator app. And i give up on trim if it kills the navigator.
Anyway, just today i received an OTA and could not identify what update this one is. Can anyone confirm if it is 4.3 by any chance of the destiny?
This OTA is named 982.50.29.en.BR (49,6MB). It's a carrier-less phone, xt890 bought in Brazil.
Edit: I'm currently on 982.50.20.XT890.Brasil.en.BR , it reports as Android 4.1.2 jelly bean.
Edit 2: no, this update is not 4.2 neither 4.3, it's just a security fix for master-key bug. I confirmed this on other topics.
Back to topic: can anyone confirm if 4.3 brings Maps 7.x with it?
If you want TRIM, you can use Lagfix Free on a rooted RAZR i:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix
It seems to work on the XT890, at least it says it is successful (it fails on my Xperias).

I still have maps 7.x. it came as a normal update from Playstore.
I am from germany.
But it force closed 6 or 7 times in 6h of navigation. Not so good, when you drive with 180kph and you get a fc of this app.
via RazR I & Tapatalk 4
Navigation on maps 7.x never gave me FC even when used for hours ...
It seems to get better...
Yesterday with 5 hours of navigation only one fc of maps
I enabled Google play services before (which is normaly frozen by TB because of many wakelocks) and made a reboot. Perhaps this is the reason.

[Q] nexus 7 keeps restarting after 4.3 update

this is my first time making an account/posting on xda after being a long time reader and user. just need some help with my nexus 7 32gb WiFi (Australian model) i have loved this tablet and I have never had a problem with it, its unrooted and has never been dropped or anything like that, i updated it to 4.3 ota last night and almost instantly after that I have noticed it keeps rebooting itself like so many other people have problems with on earlyr versions like 4.2, please tell me what I can do to fix this, I can't find any straight help, my location is off and always has been, but I have noticed every now and again I would notice (on earlyr version) fused location would always stop working and ask me to force close randomly, that now doesn't happen but instead it retstarts, so do u think this could be the problem? any help would be awesome, thanks.
If you're having a problem with 4.3 you can try two things.
1. Revert back to 4.2.2
2. Try a rooted official stock ROM.
