Hey guys, my Nexus 7 running Paranoid Android 2.2 has suddenly starting acting very strange in two extremely specific ways:
1. YouTube videos won't play. Comments, recommended videos, etc. etc. all load fast as lightning. The video? Stays there on the "loading" circle forever, until eventually it displays "connection to server lost touch to retry"
2. Apps won't download/update. Again, everything else in the play store loads fine, but downloads and updates are stuck on "downloading" forever.
I cleared data/cache, and reflashed apps, and it did absolutely nothing. Everything else on my Nexus is fine. I can go to megaupload and download a huge video file no problem. But these two apps both have these very specific problems. It's EXTREMELY frustrating.
What should I do?
Just booted back to stock and still having the same problem.

How I fix this problem
So Annoy.
Doesn't seem to be a CM7 specific problem, I'm running stock 2.3.3 and mine does this too. Mine doesn't do it every time though, maybe once out of 3 or 4 videos but when I restart it, it goes through the whole video fine.
Hi all,
I have a problem with the Play Store on my Nexus 7 what is bugging me since I got the device and that I never experienced on any other Android device I own(ed). This problem has been present from the beginning with any version of Android (got the Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 and got the 4.2.2. update quickly) and Play Store. Even the brand new 4.0 version that has been rolled out just yesterday (the bright one with the new tile design) showns this error.
The problem is this: in 3 of 4 cases when I hold my device in portrait mode and start play store and update an app, the screen constantly "flashes" every second while downloading, it´s that graphical "zoom in" effect that you get when you open an app. The problem is that I can´t leave this screen with the "back" button, it simply doesn´t work and the page keeps on flickering and showing that strange effect. Only the "home" button helps. After downlaoding and installing the update, everything woks fine.
What I already tried to get rid of the problem (none of them did help, though..):
- deleted cache and data from paly store, uninstalled update of play store, so Android reinstalled updates
- tried new version 4.0 of play store
- deleted, rebooted and reinstalled gmail account on Nexus 7
Anyone experienced this glitch? Any hints on how to solve this?
Thanks a lot,
Markus
Try stopping Downloads and Download Manager in Apps > All and clearing cache and data for them. Then reboot and try Play again.
My nexus been doing the same thing since new but in landscape mode only, annoying, but never bothered me too much. I just try to remember to keep portrait mode while updating.

Exact same issue here's. No idea what's causing it

I've been playing with roms and kernels lately, settling on Buttered Grouper 4.2.2 with Franco kernel r65. Just noticed the other day that Play Store flickering is gone. Coincidence?

This has been happening since I got the Nexus on release day. Thought it was normal behavior LOL. Completely stock -> Stock 4.3 ROM rooted/M-Kernel a61.

Wow, it´s still present on the NEW Nexus 7 ? Unbelievable, maybe time to jump off the Nexus bandwagon ... most people think it´s a huge advantage to have a nexus and always the newest android version, but to me it´s more and more a disadvantage. When 4.3 came out half of my apps stopped working, and i had to wait several days and even weeks (heck, some are STILL not compatible with 4.3) to use them again...
I purchased a Nexus Player the other day and rooted the device. Did all sorts of cool things for testing to see how I'd like to get a final setup going. Once I had everything set, I decided to catch a movie on Netflix. After choosing a movie, I hit play and the movie starts to load. However, right when it got ready to play, the screen started to flicker green. I backed out and tried again but same green flickering.
At that point, I tried to cast from my phone and tablet to the Nexus Player and still got the green flickering screen. I then tried to just play something from Netflix directly from my TV's Netflix app to see if it was an issue with the TV or the Netflix service but it played fine.
So, seems like the Netflix app was broken on the Nexus Player. That's when I decided to try Google Play Movies on the Nexus Player. Same deal... Screen flickers green when I hit play on a movie. I then tried to cast to it and still get green flickering. If I cast to the Chromecast on that same TV, it works fine. So, I thought "ok so looks like video playback is broken on the Nexus Player" .
Wrong again! I tried the Hulu app and YouTube app directly from the Nexus Player and those stream fine. Looked like only Netflix and Google Play Movies apps were broken. So I uninstalled the apps and cleared data/cache but still the same issue.
I unrooted and did a factory reset but still got the green flickering. I checked for updates but I was already updated. I returned my unit thinking I had a defect and when I got the new one, I tested again. This time without a rooted unit. Before I did an app update on the new device and fresh out of the box, I tried Netflix and Google Play Movies. Same deal...green screen flickers when I hit play. So, I then proceed to update Google Play Movies and Netflix since they had updates available. Still the same issue.
With that said, the two units (rooted and stock) have issues with those two apps. I called Google for support and we got up to level three support. They suggested I try to exchange it one more time and now I have a third unit with the same issue on those two apps. Still green flickering. Even my HDHomeRun works well streaming live TV to it.
I don't know what to do at this point. Is anyone experiencing these issues with Netflix and Google Play Movies on their Nexus Player? Any other suggestions? I switched the HDMI cable and even the ports. For what it's worth, my TV has HDMI 2.0
For what it's worth, it sounds like the only thing you haven't tried is a different tv/monitor. Do you have another screen you can try it out on? What kind of TV is it?
Google results are weird on this one. Free recommendations to find and install Netflix 1.3 and if that doesn't work then try installing "Full!Screen" or a screen rotation forcing app and rotate it a few times to make the flicker go away. Not a solution, I know, but maybe a workaround.
Same here

I've had these exact same problems with mine since day 1. these things are trash.
For the past couple of days now, whenever I try to play a video, I hear the audio fine, but don't see any video, just a black screen. At first I thought it was trouble with my YouTube app since that's basically where I only watch videos and read on several forums that the issue was caused by having the official twitter app (which is weird since I don't have twitter). I also tried restarting my phone, uninstalling/reinstalling youtube, installing older versions of youtube, all of which never worked.
So I decided to swallow my pride and just download a fake youtube alternative. To my surprise, the videos still show a black screen and only play audio. This had me thinking, so I tried to play a video in my camera roll I downloaded... Same problem, however, if I play a video I recorded myself on the phone it works... The even weirer part is though, that if I play a video through youtube via the Chrome browser it works (despite it looking like 140p and horrible audio) but it works! I've also tried smart cleaning, deleting cache and data but to no avail.
Is there a problem with my phones flash player, or whatever extension it uses? I know Chrome uses its own built in player which could explain why it sorks in Chrome but not anywhere else.
This all seemed to happen randomly, I didnt do anything. Games and other media including music still seem to work fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Also I am rooted on 12A and have been for the past 6 months.
I'm also having the same issue with my vs995 running on rooted 12A
Hello everyone, I want to share with you a problem that I met with my S8 since I have it (<1 week).
Everything works fine except when the screen shows a video, whatever it's on YouTube, FB, Twitter, or even integrated videos on other apps, on the screen appears some randomly placed lines of pixel that are not refreshing, like a lag, and generally it makes the phone crash and reboot.
This problem is kind of random also, maybe 80% of the time.
Also this problem doesn't occurs when watching GIF or playing games
From my point of view, I have no clue if the issue is software or hardware.
For now all I tried is :
- Factory reset from the recovery
- Factory reset from Odin
- Safe mod boot (and it is still doing the same problem)
- Installed Android 8.0 beta
- tried to modify the animations on the development mode
- modified the screen resolution
And nothing is working. For now I didn't wanted to root it and install a custom ROM, because I don't know if it will change anything.
Anyway if you have an idea what it could be I would be really thankful. Also I heard that some had an issue with random reboots, but i've never seen a post mentioning this issue.
My s8 is a SM-G950F
Did you find any solution?
