After typing "su" and super user access being granted I get stuck. After the command it says not found. If I type "cd" I get the message "cd: HOME not set" can anyone help me to figure out what I need to do to direct this?
What, exactly, is the command? Copy/paste it if you can.

You forgot the space. Try:
cd /data/local

That worked. Thank you, but now on the next step I input "chmod 777 gfree" and get back "unable to chmod gfree: no such file or directory" which doesn't make sense to me, because when I look in my files the file named gfree is in sdcard/data/local
It needs to be /data local, not sdcard/data/local. Sounds like you messed up a step.
Get ES File Explorer and enable root browsing.

It's in framework-res.apk, if you don't find it in /data... I ran the apk through APK Manager - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701&highlight=[TOOL] myself. You can also do it more 'manually', of course.
Thanks

you can use root explorer to check. Its supposed to be stored in /data/dalvik-cache. If you're using an a2ext it would be on sd-ext.
On phone terminal
Type
su
Enter
Type
A2sd check
Works on Rom with dt a2sd not sure if it works on others without.

Its a command thats built into DT. So it only works with DT.

You manually have to type "su" in Terminal Emulator and then it will ask for Super User access.
I did that and it says "permission denied"?

Yes.

What ROM are you using? Do you have the Superuser app present in your app list?
Using ladios' cm7 and yes. Other apps have super user access.

I figured it out. Had to switch back to the android keyboard from SlideIt.
I appreciate your help.

I deleted it thinking Ti had the app+data, but it only had the data..since I don't have a browser and I am not near my laptop, I was hoping I could find one here in XDA, through the android app. Anyone?
Much appreciation in advance!

Anyone? I am at dinner and I have to get something I have hosted. And its a ...ummm...a girl to whom I would like to show this hosted item. Sort of a "hey, look at this thing I did because I bet my blue book value would be notched up a bit"
Sorry to be a bother...
Thank you again!!

Ok I will try that. I just have not gone into archives for individual items yet. Is there a native unzip utility (i have cm7 rc4)?

Just reflash the rom on top without wiping anything.

Or download another browser from the Market real quick.
They'd what I did. But just installing the browser from the zip file of the last rom I had flashed (cm7) ****ed up everything. I had to reflash the whole ROM.

Did you change permission to 644 and add it to the sys/app folder

No I didn't. I was unaware I needed to do that. Can you explain how to change the permission to 644? Thanks in advance!!

I've been working on an miui rom and some not all of the apps I put in the system/app force close. Ie. File expert. Jota text editor. Xda doesn't so I'm not sure what's going on. They work when installed through the market. Any ideas?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA
A lot of time I go to settings-Applications...then select the app or apps you are having problems with, then clear the data or cache. If its not serious, that normally resolves the issue. Hope it helps..

You try to fix permissions?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Also, did you make sure your system partition was completely wiped?
Fix permissions worked. Gonna have to see what I have to do to fix the permissions during install. I don't want to hassle users to fix when I finish the rom
