I share your pain. seems for any jellybean based rom I cannot view media from external sd card in gallary/music player.
Work arounds I have found...install Quick Pic & Power Amp from the playstore as these are capable of scanning media.
Or, install an ICS rom, (ASOP if you want Paranoid JB, or samsung based if you want to play around with the leaked OTAs) and flash your JellyBean rom ontop of that only wiping cache, not data. I had few problems doing this, but in the end always went back to ICS...
I hope someone finds a proper fix for these SD card issues soon. It's pretty annoying. Next thing i'm gonna try is using the external sd to internal sd mod, see if that makes a difference.
Good luck

so i cleared my internal SD card, moved my music into a 'media' folder, moved my videos into a 'videos' folder, moved my etc, still nothing, actually not nothing, since wiping the internal memory my photos show up, but, only the folders entitled 'camera' and one other folder show up, not my instagram, picsay, little photo...anything, it makes literally no sense to me.
What would you suggest jje?

okay, so back up your sd card photos and delete the DCIM folder from the sd card. flash PARANOIDANDROID and off ya gan. I also wiped my internal sd card. media is now being scanned, media player finds music, gallery finds pics like album art etc....not perfect but loads better than nothing.

One opinion: try kwbr's ROMs and see if it's OK for playing music...
It's working very good for me (but it's working too for the latest energy reference ROM)...

Hi Just curious do I need to download the flash player from the market or does the phone come with it automatically.......also what is the best sd card for this phone? Is the 10 class the highest you can get?
Thank you
adobe flash is located in the market, to quote a friend of mine...'10 Speed depends on what you are going to do with it. HD recordiing needs faster cards. But music and low quality video can be good with class 4-6'
Oh ok so I do have to download it from the market......which card would you recommend....and would i have to copy everything from the old card to the new card as far as folders that came with the phone....sorry to be so ignorant.....
i edited my first response, and anything you want on the new card you will have to copy over, what i do for game and app data is use titanium backup to back up everything then just copy over the ti backup folder and youre download folders and music ect.
I flashed CM 7.2 stable.
Then my phone's music player and gallery don't recognize the songs and pics in my SD card.
I tried flashing the boot.img from the zip file after flashing CM 7.2. I've also tried formatting my SD card.
I also tried the media scanner approach through dev tools and looked for and delete .nomediafile in my sd card.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks!

I restarted my cell phone after I tried every of the approaches mentioned above but it didn't work. Just now, I had to install flash another zip, and it had to restard, for some reason, it worked.
Don't know which one was effective though.
I'm going to start from beginning.
I'm on kitkat 4.4.2
I rooted my note 3 using towelroot.
Only reason I did was because my external 64 gig Samsung micro SD was not keeping anything I would copy from my internal memory to the external. Music, movies, photos etc...
Everything would erase for no reason minutes after transferring.
I tried to find a fix and found that if I rooted my note 3 I would go into the internal folders and add a path to allow external micro SD to copy and write from device.
First of all issue on that has not been fixed at all. So im still looking for an answer on that.
But now the only music player able to read my music is poweramp.
I'm used to using playerpro and stock music player on my Samsung. I think I might have messed up something in the internals.
One more thing. I decided that after rooting it seemed easy to change rom. I used safestrap. Bad idea. I accidentally erased stock rom. Had to bring my baby back using odin. Thank the odin gods for bringing it back. Now in stuck with poweramp.
Any help would be immensely appreciated:good:

Try a data factory reset or if that doesn`t help reflash the stock rom with Odin and factory reset afterwards

This is probably due to the restrictions that Google made to third party access to the SD card storage to guard against malware. And a variety of apps can't cope with that. Active Developers will probably update their apps in due course to work with the new regime.
You have three choices:
Store your video on the phone rather than external SD.
See of your video player app has been updated to cope with the new Kitkat policies.
Or remove the SD card restrictions. This is done by adding expanded permissions to platform.xml. There are a ton of threads about this as the question keeps getting asked over and over again - and many guides can be found if you do a forum search.
.
Thing is . Is that it work fine on my z2 running kit Kat. Just put my sd card in there and played no problem
I also installed the xposed mod on my s5 and the fixer from jrummy

We weren't talking about the Z2, so that isn't germaine. If you want to discard this solution out of hand, that's fine. Or you can try it and see if it works for you. It certainly works for the rest of us.
We have no idea what you are talking about for the other items. There are dozens of xposed mods and you didn't name or describe which one you are referring to. And "fixer from jrummy" tells us nothing.
I hear that the magic fixer from Alladin always works. And you see how more details would be useful.

Done everything you said . Now tried on omega rom . Can't even play videos saved on internal storage . Or can't upload the files to the likes of instagram fb etc
Edit fixed with alliance rom
Go to application manager, uninstall all updates from Google+
Source - applied fix and worked for myself.
try this, uninstall google+ updates
