Guys i dropped my phone in washing machine...fortunately it wasnt on and i immediately took out my phone....it didnt get wet at all but when i first switched it on it worked perfectly but since the backcover was not put on the battery came out now when i again put the battery in and switched it on it didnt work...i tried everything still it doesnt turn on....my phone was rooted so i dont even have the warranty :/ :'(
Any suggestions?what should i do?
well i think youmust replace your battery...and how the phone company can know the phone is rooted if they cannot turn it on?
at 1st dont turn it on quickly.. before turning it on make sure you dry it put a fan you it so it can be dry easily
I had the same problem once upon a time. But recovered it. First you need to pull out all the parts as much as you can when it get wet. After that dry in real heat for a day or two. Most important step is don't turn it on until it dried completely.

Put your phone in a box of rice that is tightly sealed it should work. When my phone is stolen luckily i have found my phone in my school boys cr my phone is really wet and it stinks why immersed with urine i think its been 15-30 minutes immersed with urine. What did i do i wash it with water take of sim battery sim card sd card. After that i wipe my phone using a cloth and after that insert sim battery sd card and turn it on im so stupid another attempt i charge my phone 30 minutes it just heat up. After i go home i google search what to do when your phone dropped in water i follow all the steps. After one week my phone booted shows white screen take of battery turn on im so happy my sgy work again.
Just put your phone in a tightly sealed rice container that have rice inside in one week it should worked for you
I already experience that when my phone is stolen found it in my school boys cr i think it was 15-30 minutes immersed in toilet bowl.
And after one week im so happy it is working again i will be more careful not my phone to be stolen again.

I dropped my slide in the toilet this morning... how cliche. I'm at work now with no dry rice handy and I have my phone sitting about 6 inches from my space heater.
Sitting in front of the heater the phone is fine, but when i remove it.. the screen starts to look "steamy" (see pic below).

is this ok? should I NOT be doing this? or is this just the water reacting to the heat and dissipating. I have no idea.. everything I've read says use alcohol or rice.. i have niether around. i'm going home on my lunch break tho to give it a rice bath for a few hours.
I put my dunce hat on momentarily and booted the thing. When I first pulled it out of the water everything worked except the buttons (keyboard, home, search/genius, menu and back). after letting it sit in front of the heater... everything SEEMS to work. i didn't play with it very long because i noticed the screen fogging up and thought it best to remove the battery again. That being said.. the heater seems to be working.
help please and thank you.
In case someone is keeping up with this...
UPDATE: I got one of the screws off on the back of the display and am using a small flat tip screw driver to prop it open in front of the heater. i just picked it up and it definitely took a LOT longer for the steam to show up... and there was definitely less of it.
I did the same thing to mine last week..I just took the battery and sim card out and let it sit over night.. the next morning I turned it back on and the screen looked like that for a few days and I had problems with a few keys not working and it randomly turning itself up and down..but after about a week its all back to normal without rice or alcohol

I'm at 100% now. after prying the display open and a little time in front of the heater my phone is back on it's feet. No problems whatsoever. *Knocks on wood*

Just incase this happens again or 2 someone else.
This happened 2 me as well & what I did was I took the battery, sd & sim out asap & didnt turn it on till its had time 2 dry out some. (24hr, min) I stuck it in a cup of rice (not flat) & It ended up taking almost a week before it was 100% functional. By that time t-mobile offered me a replacement phone and said if they found water damage they would need 2 bill me $100 for an out of warranty exchange. That was 6 months ago and the water damage sticker was clearly red but they never billed me the $100.
You guys are lucky, I dropped a tp2 in the cat water dish and immediately pulled the battery and sim. The keyboard never recovered. Everything else still works.

Ditto, but one issue with the dry out
I also dropped my phone into the can, let it dry out for a few days and after the screen finally getting back to normal i thought all was well with the world. only problem is, now, if i turn off the phone, the super bright led comes on and doesnt go off until i turn the phone on again. any ideas how to fix this if it is possible? and even if the phone dies and i attempt to charge the led comes on and counteracts the charging. thanks for any help
RICE! RICE! RICE! but yes water stickers+a dead giveaway to mobile carriers..
As stupid as I am, I managed to go into a lake with my SGS2 in my pocket. 5 underwater minutes later, when I realized how much of an idiot I am, I took it out of my pocket, took out the back cover, SIM, SD Card, battery and left it out do dry.
One day later I tried the SGS2 back on and it came alive but showed me a quite scary gray (like static) screen.
I left it for two more days inside a bowl of rice and tried it on again: it booted withour as much as a glitch but the battery overheated really fast (in 2 minutes it had gone up to 48oC). The heat seemed to come straight from something on the right of the battery when looking at the backside. So I unscrewed it and left it as dismantled as I had the heart for another day of drying.
Has anyone ever been so stupid and had a similar problem? Do you know what the overheating component might be (I'm guessing it's a RF circuit according to the service manual)? Should it be safe to try it on again?
Cheers!
I have been that stupid once but I've never been so foolish/brash to turn the phone the phone on after a day. It's best to leave the phone in some rice at least for a week so that you don't risk a shortage.
A friend was foolish enough to try and turn it on after a day. Let's just say that it didn't work out because the phone had shorted itself.
better get a new liquid water damage indicator sticker on ebay

that would never be me .. i like my SGS2 too much
i lol'd hard at the pic
I used to work for phones4U some years ago we had a box of silica gel packs (from shoe boxes) that we would put phones in to dry out.
you can normally get them free if you ask nicely in a shoe or bag shop.
it absorbs better than rice, just place the phone with them and put in a warm dry place like an airing cupboard.
re the battery heat have you tried a different battery? best to eliminate the consumables before trying to fix a mobo that may not be broken.
if you do find its the mobo have a look to see if any of the legs on the chips have got green copper oxide bridging and shorting out.
if they have you can try cleaning with cotton buds (Q tips over the pond) and some
alcohol (remember a little dab'l'do)
water effects can be seen even months after contact.
because contacts and metallic parts start to corrode in time.
I've seen once in a phone service that they are using a special solution that remove moister from the phones.
also, tap water contains chlorine and that's affecting the parts too.
Battery is another issue, as you discovered, because water gets into it and makes battery elements/electrodes short-circuit.
My suggestion is to take it to a phone repair service as soon as possible and let them measure the battery and evaluate the phone.
In Romania a 2.000 milliamp battery costs around 20 euro so it will be rather cheap to fix only that.
and one more thing, let it powered off, without the battery in until get it fixed.
hi all
my gf just washed my gs2 in the washing machine
without telling me she wanted to turn on the phone but of course it doesn't work, hope it's going to work when it will dry...
i took of the battery, the sim card and the sd card, putted all of them in a bowl of uncooked rice over a heater
can someone tell me if i did something wrong? or if i have to do something else, don't want to loose my lovely gs2 :crying:
If you're a careful person I recommend to take the phone apart and clean it all with alcohol ( use alcohol and a toothbrush) or take it to someone with experience... and you probably need to replace your USB flex since those poor things are very fragile
That pic made me laugh so bad !

Isopropanol Alcohol, every time. If you have 100% then you can just dump the phone in the stuff for a wee while, it drives out all the water. Then leave the phone sitting somewhere warm for a couple hours to evaporate the iso, then there you go, should be fine!

Ok I had the screen problems now for 6-8months. Cant be without my phone as most users. I mod a lot and always need to battery pull. Which as caused the problem of the 1cm dead strip which affects game play and letters WESZ on the touch keyboard.
My solution is not ideal but it works. Am not technical minded at all.
1) you need a strip of thin metal.

This is what I used. A old hard speaker cover I think this was
2) I cut it into a strip of around 0.5mm wide 1cm long
3) remove battery and place right hand side of fingerprint scanner
4) replace battery (might be a tight fit)
5) replace back cover
6) bend the strip over
Works for me screen perfect now. I can pull battery. Replace the strip. Replace the battery. Boot and screen is prefect again.
Hope this help some of you guys.
Maybe someone can find a more ideal way?

I have the same problem but this doesn't work for me.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
That works!!!!!!!!i just slightly pull the fingerprint sensor up! the dead area comes back to work!!!!!!!!amazing!!!!!
i think the problem lies in the digitizer bus connector!
I thought you were going to post something like take out your digitizer and put glue stick on it all lmao! just kidding.
So this works... let's see...
EDIT (WORKS!):
So odd... this works better than punch the phone, haha. Nah it just worked fine =), It's a workaround till my digitizer arrives, also I use the Fingerprint so this is a problem either ways lol... but
Thank you and God bless you.
EDIT 2 lol:
Did you ever try buying a new digitizer, or do you think it's some other problem? because I bought a digitizer already and it is on it's way to me.
Ill try , thanks !!!

I take battery out insert paperclip replace battery then bend paperclip over the scanner.
Battery keeps it in place,
Mine is 1mm into the scanner on the right.
Once you got it into place and stuck there your screen will be fine.

Seriously buddy OMG...i had that top left panel unglue issue on my XZ...but this is seriously bad....
Go to Sony Service. I've read on another forum (cant' remember where) that a guy got his phone replaced for something like that.
When I read this I had to see how bad mine was since my backglass is unglued. Pulled off the headphone flap en lifted that other part up and tadaa, same issue. When I did it it made some noise like the glue fell apart.
I think you better don't try it, since it seemed to be good until I tried, lol. Gotta get my backglass repaired anyway so I'll tell them about this problem also. I hope they swap it for a new one haha.

I haven't used any chemical substances at all. I've used my phone like you should.
This is just weak glue, due to phone getting very warm, and while I listen to music the flap rests on the panel, which makes it open.
Why would anyone use chlorine on their phone

Yeah I got my phone and not 3 days later it was plugged in on the kitchen island at my sisters when my other brother comes over with his son and not 2 minutes later I look up and hes yanking the cord and BAMMM all I see is my life flash before my very eyes... so funny cause it was super slow motion in my mind as the phone slides off the counter and hits the tile.. luck for me all I got was a scratch on the bevel.. unlucky as the Ottorbox defender case wasnt in stores at the time and didnt come in the mail fast enough

i droped mine 3 feet face down on marble
not even single scratch
i guess just lucky
i droped my iphone ,4-5 feet on tile and damn whole left upper corner dented but was happy with it coz the way it fell i thought would have been shatterd
Guys, you know there are 4 external parts.
Rear cover
Mid plate
Glass
S pen
The bezel you're referring to can be replaced for about £10/$15, with no skills and standard phone dismantling tools (which are often included in your purchase of spare parts).
This is why I don't use a case, and why I think people with aluminium phones are idiots. I've bought my replacement mid-plate (bezel if u like) and rear cover all ready for the day I eBay it, or if it gets too knocked up to look at.
Rejoice in your plastic, and don't spend £10+ on a case if the only reason you want it is to protect the plastic...
Did your note's edges hit the floor? If it did then it sure is a miracle:good:
*spen, front speaker grill, home button, camera and flash
For those pedantic few, I originally left out the bits which I think you can get away if scratched.

lucky you guys,
I dropped it ONCE on the floor from belt level (I was 172 CM), and bam, top right corner is now bent.
Dropped it while getting down frm mumbai local train...and all the scratches were ôn d scratch gaurd, not a single scratch on d screen..

Do not try this with iPhone.
cracked screen
After like dropping the phone a thousand times (yes, quite sometimes while being drunk) the outer plastic frame has some scratches, and the top right corner has two cracks right abovethe front camera (which still works like a charm). Not so bad
lucky. i have dropped my phone so many times..
aaand she's still pretty from the inside.
