Buying Off EBay ESN check - Networking

I just won a bid on an used phone at sprint. The seller says it has a clean ESN in the information but after I won. I message him and asked for the ESN number so I can
contact Sprint to double check. He sent me a message back saying once I pay through paypal he will provide the ESN number
because it is a security concern to do it before and once I pay I will be covered by paypal and eBay. This doesn't makes sense
to me. Is providing an ESN a security
concern. Any thoughts will help.

Costco Item Number

Here you go. The item number is 569151. When you call the main store ask if they have that item number.

Tell them it isn't and you just want to know if they have them in stock or on order...it will show up as a different product because they are trying to stop presales by blocking employees from knowing what it is. In fact is will show up as product 10000 from verizon wireless.
The item number was dead on, they have 10 and its 789 confirmed by 3 stores in Michigan.

Any word on official pricing yet?
Called up my local costco with the item number. They have 11 on order for $789.99. Is the $699 price at costco a myth?

Looks like it was.
Will Costco ask to check my credit for this tablet? This is worrying me, I don't even own a credit card and plan on paying for the tablet + any fees through debit.

Not sure, I don't see why they would though. As for the price, he still says $699 even with system dating other wise.

Alright let us know

A dumb guy is selling his Nexus S 4G cheap...

A guy on craigslist is selling his Nexus S 4G very cheap. It sounds as though he just doesn't want to pay his bill anymore, so he's telling Sprint to go eff themselves and he's selling this phone. The dumbass is going to have his credit tank and have collectors after him, but his choice!
My question is am I able to buy the phone off of him and switch the phone to my plan? Or will he have to pay off his bill in order for the phone to be released? Thanks!
That phone will have a bad esn so whoever buys it will be the dumb guy for not checking the esn.

bad esn probably. but that's a good thing for people like me that use cricket. that's how i got my epic.
You can cancel without ETF if you have ****ty reception and tell them you have no broadband.

Yeah, the girl has a bad ESN. She's a complete dumbass for "not wanting to pay her bill". I was nice and even explained what Sprint and her creditors will do to her. Was hoping to find that one fool on Craigslist that's legit...
Yeah, if the guy opts not to pay off his bill it will likely be marked bad ESN.
I'm not sure entirely what the policy is if you have him swap phones to a dumbphone online before he does it..... you'd be taking a big risk on your part.
I know when you buy a phone with a contract discount you're only required to have to phone activated on the account for a specific amount of time (not the full 24 months). If he's surpassed that time, and changes the phone on the plan, I'm not sure if they go through his phone history and mark all of them Bad ESN, or just the current phone.
It'd be my educated guess that the system only marks the current phone bad ESN. And I know you can change ESNs only when your account is in good standing. So you'd have the catch the guy and check, very quickly, if he's gone past his last phone bill's "due by" date.
Either way, even Bad ESN Nexus 4g's go for decent money on eBay. If you're getting it below $100, it'd be worth the risk.
If above $100, don't waste your money, the going rate on eBay for a good ESN is $160-180.

Yeah, she was selling it for $75. I guess it goes "if it's too good to be true, it probably is".
A bad ESN will only effect the use of the phone on the Sprint Network. Do you use Sprint's service? If you do, then yes, its a bad buy, and probably not even worth attempting the charade that the poster above me suggested. That's not to say the guys idea is stupid, I am merely saying that all the hassle you'll have to go through might be counterproductive. But IDK.. just my opinion.

T-Mo Galaxy s 3 Off Contract

Where can i buy one off contract? The tmo store will not sell it as of yet.
A few options:
- Non T-Mobile phone stores (In Houston, I tend to look for cell phone stores in Chinatown)
- Craigslist (Always ask for seller's ID due to the blocked IMEI scam on the rise)
- E-bay
- Market place on here (I think I've seen a few)
- Did you try calling T-Mobile directly? Also, just FYI, my friend bought her 16GB White T999 from a T-Mobile store here in Houston TX for full price (payment plan) about two weeks ago. So I'm not sure why (I'm assuming) you were told that T-Mobile store will not sell it yet or why the store wouldn't sell it to you.

please elaborate on the ID, you mean ask them for the IMEI?
I want to buy it off craigslist but it's obvious people stole bulks of these phones off somewhere.
I called the TMo stores directly, not the company. They all told me they have a memo from Tmo not to sell off contract s3's until further notice.
They are available for their value plans but you will be making payments on $599 plus tax.

On craigslist make sure they give you the receipt is one way to go. Or have them meet you at a T-Mobile store (preferred) when you do the exchange. Kinda like buying a used car and meeting at the dmv to change title.

No. Not asking for the IMEI number because the IMEI will be on the phone and on the box.
What I mean was this: A lot of people buy their phones on Craigslist and the phone will be working for a few weeks or a month before it will eventually stop working. When you call it in, you will be told that the phone was reported stolen and as such, the IMEI was blocked, rendering the phone to be useless on T-Mobile's network. What had happened was, the person selling the phone on CL would have claimed the phone to be stolen and received a replacement phone through insurance. This way, he would have your money and still own a galaxy S3.
For example of what I think is an example of such scam, click me
So, when you do a transaction on CL, take a screen shot of the CL ad, do the transaction at a T-Mobile store. Always ask for a receipt or any kind of proof of purchase, and ask for their personal ID so you can track them down in case the phone was reported stolen so you can have support for when you go to the Police (if you choose to go to the police).

Thanks for the info. First time with tmo and was going to return my Costco s3 and try to get one on CL so Im not stuck on a contract. Now that I know this ill be more weary with phones off contract. Quick question. Besides getting their ID info which could be difficult to do, could you technically let T-Mobile know that you just bought it off craigslist and have the seller give his info to them which the seller would most likely do rather than give you his ID. Assuming ofcourse that he is also with using tmo service so his account can be noted.

Wow thats crazy.
Here's my short story.
The family decided to start a new 2 year contract and everyone got Galaxy S2's. This was like in April. Sold the S2 because I wanted the S3.
Started looking on Ebay, then Craigs. I checked on Craigs one day and found a pretty good deal for a sealed blue 16gb (though I had to give up the micro sim in the deal). Jumped on it that same day and met locally. I get to the spot and it turned out the seller is the older brother of this dude I knew in middle school/high school (they were both there at the spot). In my head I was like oh nice, this should be easy.
Opened it up on the spot, paid the guy, and left.
I feel pretty lucky for that to happen. I mean, of all chances I was able to meet up with someone on Craigs that I know.
But hearing these stories of people scamming people through IMEI is crazy.

I bought mine from through mytmobile it gave me no problems buying it at full retail... I am on a grandfathered even more + plan though, not sure if that changes anything though
T-Mobile stores won't sell them off contract? I bought mine full retail at a factory T-Mobile store almost 2 weeks ago. No issues what-so-ever.

Any tips how to buy a tmobile note 3 on Craigslist?

Any tips or suggestions on how I can buy a tmobile note 3? How can I be sure it's a good esn/imei without it being reported stolen from tmobile?

Its difficult to buy phone off craigslist these days. All the major network are beginning to share banned esn/imei numbers.
The scam usually goes like this: people buy phone up to 6 lines either for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint for free. They then turn around and sell the phones on Craigslist. They either not go through with the 2 years comminment or in T-mobile's case just not finish paying the finance payments.
Here are the steps to protect yourself (at least for T-Mobile):
1) Agree on a price before meeting.
2) Tell the seller you want a payoff receipt form T-moible showing the phone being paid-off.
3) Meet the seller at a corporate T-Mobile store.
Check imei (goole and you will find a free site to check imei).
****The seller hasto be the original purchaser of the phone or management will not be able to access finance / account info.*****
Comfirm with manager that the informations on the receipt is correct and account is clear.
***Have manager call insurance to cancel policy.*** Then confirm with manager, making sure that the seller can not reactivate the policy.
Bring a bill of sale form for seller to fillout. Write a check make out the the seller. Have seller sign over the check. The check will be a formal receipt should there be an issue down the road.
And lastly when possible, have manager document the transaction on your account.

Sprint HTC 10 finanical eligibility check flag advice

Hello I'm so confused. I was about to sell my Sprint HTC 10 on Swappa but it somehow comes back with a financial eligibility flag and they say it can't be sold. This is puzzling to me as it was being used on my account for 7 months and I can still activate on my account, and the Sprint rep said it could be activated on any Sprint account. I purchased from someone else that was paying it off at the Sprint store while I was there and the salesman assured me all was good. I've checked every other online esn checker that do the Sprint FEC and they all say it's clear no flag. Also it is compatible with Ting so that almost always means it's paid off. I'm just gonna try to sell it on Craigslist but sure is hard to get much on there.
