i am from the united kingdom and my galaxy y has 2 stock firmwires.
what i wanted to know is what is the differance between the two firmwires as one has latest version in kies and one doesnt, so what does that mean?
is the latest not legal samsung software as it's not in kies, i dont understand? the difference between them
Sorry if i sound thick i just like to understand abit more about it.
source:- http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-S5360&pcode=XEU&os=1&type=1
ALSO
is it safe to charge my galaxy y over night, can it reduce battery life or does it stop charging when it's fully charged and wont damage the battery in anyway?

First one is latest jan 2012 and second one dec 2011.so both are offical.
And do not put ur phone on charging for long time i.e full night.it can damage battery and one user got some screen problem as he used to charge his phone overnight...

I would say dont charge overnight!
Sent either from My Nexus S or my Galaxy Y

read my post bro when im in tethering than the phone is charging, the longest time was 3-4 days without unplugging, our battery has no memory..blabla like oldscool handy, thats pure sh......believe me.im every day in tethermode for 1-2 days and theres no problem anywhere, the same on my s2 too both phones runs like first day.thats a myth

Thanks for your posts, at the moment i am using december, does that mean if i update to the January one i wont be able to update via kies after?
i am on the stock software and i can't update my phone via kies to the january version? if i flashed it would that void you're warranty or is it possible to update by kies it says that latest version in kies in december so what is the january version for?
You would think samsung would have a chat support for these types of questions.

[Q] Do I need to update my Galaxy S4? (got overhitting issue)

Today i received my Galaxy S4 I9500 and i notice it has over hitting issues after a few minutes of fair use..
my question is if I need to update my device's software.
In "system updates" it says my system is up to date, same thing when i try updating via kies
however:
Baseband version: 19500XXUAMDE
Kernel version: 3.4.5-447845 Apr 12 (I noticed there is a new version)
build number: JDQ39.I9500XXUAMDE
SELinux status: permissive
now i dont wanna root my Galaxy s4 or download custom rom
all I want is the STOCK VERSION of android, with no changes just the regular version
Heating is normal now due to usage.. Let's say you got your mobile data on- your s4 will definitely heat up.. or you're gaming- still gonna heat up.
But if your phone's totally on stand by (data connections off and etc), then you get worried with the heating.
If you don't wanna root, just wait for OTA

Oh now I totally understanding !
Can I get your phone number ? You will explain me more about overheating issue's
Updating the firmware may help, some people claim it does. As far as I have been able to tell from researching online, he i9500 does get a little warm, probably not much worse than my nexus 4 use to get. I will say however that the i9505 runs much cooler.
I understand what people are saying that its normal to expect some heat under intensive tasks, but the fact is the octa core version does run much hotter than the i9505 :/

[Q] Kies and OTA updates

Hi everyone
Few days ago when I entered Kies to see if there are any updates for my firmware there was a message there's a new update so I installed it via Kies.
On the other hand, when I checked at the same time through the settings of the device I was told that I have the latest firmware.
My question is why is it?
Why the OTA service told me that I have the latest firmware and at the same time the Kies told me there is a new update.
Is there a problem with the rom?
I must say I have the BTU stock rom but I'm not from England, but from Israel.
Do I need to be from England to get the OTA?
Thanks in advance
No. I'm from Israel and I've got same thing. Same thing with Galaxy S3. AFAIK, there was always a discrepancy between OTA and OKIES updates.

So you mean that OTA updates always come with delay of few days after Kies?
BTW, you have also the BTU stock rom?
I wouldn't know about days, but I've never had the same update be available via both routes.
Also, I've got the EMJ9 RIM, but mine is downloaded manually, since my phone is rooted. Long story short, before I manually installed 4.3, I updated via Kies (after which my phone failed to boot, allegedly since it was rooted).

Anyway, you say next time I can even not check for Kies and the update will arrive through OTA to my device sooner or later after it is released via Kies, right?
I wouldn't count on it. While I regularly check via OTA just for the fun of it. But mostly every time I ever updated was via Kies, rather than OTA.

Yeah but you said it will arrive eventually to both - Kies and OTA. Just Kies will arrive earlier.
No, what I said is that as far as I know there is a difference in time, between when the updates arrive to Kies and OTA. I'm quite sure the update will arrive OTA too, but that could be a week, or that could be a few months, that I can't tell you :-\

Stuck on low battery - 4.4 Kitkat update problem

Hi All:
I am not experienced with smart phones and therefore would like to seek your advice/assistance regarding an issue that came up with my S 4 GT-I9505 International.
What happened:
- The 4.4 Kitkat update came out on my phone through my provider (Rogers, Canada)
- I downloaded the update via Wifi and began its installation at a relatively low battery
- During the update, precisely after the reboot while the % bar with the android guy was filling up, I plugged in my phone to ensure it would not die (wall outlet)
- Coming back to the phone after some time I noticed it was OFF
My phone is the international version, unlocked and was going to be sent to Europe (Portugal) based on the language of the manual and the fact that it came with a North American adapter.
What I have done since then:
- The phone turns on and the Samsung words appear on the screen with the model number and then it goes BLACK
- When plugged in, it turns on and shows the ''very low'' battery symbol and stays like that
- It is recognized through USB but does not connect to Kies
I have done the factory restore and cache wipes, those work fine. But when I do go to reboot the device I notice that "Error!" appears under the little android guy momentarily before booting up.
Any help is well appreciated. Thanks so much.
Jay

I think it's a case of soft brick..
If your warranty is intact then go to Samsung care they will fix it for you.
Don't tell then what exactly happened. .
Say I updated and it's not working..

Before doing that, try to buy a new battery and test it. In the worst-case you will get a new replacement battery ; in the better case you will save a lot of money trying to repair something that it is not needed to be repaired.

Hey all,
Good news. So I got on SamMobile.com, grabbed a UK 4.3 Android file and used Odin to flash it onto my unresponsive S4. It worked like a charm and the phone is back up and running.
Just a few questions as I am new to "flashing":
So now that I will have to flash UK releases of the latest firmware as my Canadian network provider will probably brick my phone every time they release the latest firmware, should I simply wait for the internet to have the latest firmware of my regions version and flash it every time via odin?
Also, is flashing over time going to decrease my phone's performance in terms of processing speed and memory (RAM)?
Finally, any suggestions that are different from what I plan to do as described above?
Thanks to everyone who contributed, I "thanked" the posts.
Jay

Aren't OTA updates from my network provider which would mean that installing their firmware update would result in bricking? May you please elaborate?

Well OK I use my phone in Canada but since its a UK phone I went out and got the UK firmware. So now when I get the latest firmware update (4.4) from Canada, won't it brick?
I mean that is what happened last time...
The phone is unlocked and I have never rooted it. Just used Odin to throw on the firmware.
Thanks.

Yes updating in this way is the safest but u should have adequate battery

Hmmm, I think it's normal, as we know there are millions s4 out of there, which means OTA is coming out part by part, like some user update in day 1, some user in day 2, some in day 3, and so on, because not matter how powerful server and bandwidth they got, I don't think it could possibly withstand the pressure of updating millions device at same time or very short period...

[SM-N920I] New Firmware and OTA: N920IDVU2AOJ4 (Singapore)

There is a new OTA update rolling out for Singapore, all CSC codes (XSP, SIN, STH, and MM1). The update is 144.2 MB. SamMobile also has the full firmware package.
PDA: N920IDVU2AOJ4
Baseband: N920IDVU2AOJ3
Build: LMY47X.N920IDVU2AOJ4
Android Version: 5.1.1
Changelog:
1. The stability of Call has been improved.
2. Battery usage optimisation
3. The security of your device has been improved.
Also, flashing this firmware seems to blow an eFuse (this is 2A vs 1A) so you most likely won't be able to downgrade after updating.

The changelog claims that the security policy is updated, so downgrades are impossible. So, yes, I'd venture to say Knox has been updated with this release.

That's one of the line items in the change log so theoretically, battery life should last longer. Time will tell.

Ok thanks ?
It seems to me the standby time is improved, as I live in a weak signal area, before the battery can down 5% in one hour just by sitting there, now it barely drops ?
Just updated this firmware OTA an hour ago. It somehow seems to fix my deep sleep issue
Will keep on monitoring and revert back
Phone seems to respond a bit faster too.
And total system ram usage also seems to lowered down.
Hoping this fixes my startup lag/freezing issue. So far so good over the last 24 hrs Those that did not get the update yet, you can download via samfirm or sammobile, and flash via odin v3.10.7
Changes in smart manager, battery section. Similar per app optimizations previously was in ram manager section of smart manager. However these seems different..

Nope. It'll only flash on an N920I. Odin won't allow you to flash firmware for a different model.

You don't necessarily need to wait for your phone to get an update, but you do need to wait for there to be updated N920G firmware somewhere in the world. At that point, you can flash. You just can't flash N920I firmware to an N920G.
