EVO 4G, post the positives and the negatives - EVO 4G General

Hello all.
Let's post some positives of the EVO, and some negatives. Feel free to debate, and express opinions.
Try and structure it like this:
Positive(s):
-One of the most developed phones
Negative(s):
-Battery life typically sucks without some sort of extended battery
Rules:
-There really are none, say whatever you want, and if this thread gets closed, then it gets closed. lol :good:

I'll try to make this fair in reason that advancement in phones over time can set the evo back.
Pros
-First 4G wimax phone
-Digitizer upgraded to gorilla glass in HW revision.
-8MP/Dual LED flash
-HDMI port
Cons
-qsd8k (porting)
-shipped with froyo
-SDCard bay placement
-No Sense 2.0/2.1 update

guiz, yoo knead too use propper gramur becuz u look lyk a moron wen u tipe lyk this

Pros:
First phone to break some barriers.
Kickstand.
camera.
HTC device.
I own the device
-----------------------------------
Cons:
Overly developed.(people become devs, from a mod they place in a Rom.)
HTC device.
I own it.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

PROS
Cleared the way for other phones to have huge screens.
Broke barrier for 4G.
It was a tank. I dropped it twice and no screen crack just a minor bump.
Lots of development.
Ability ton run pure android and sense variations.
CONS
Also somehow allowed for phone. companies to charger for "premium data".
Overly developed. I thank everyone for their attempts but the dev section is way over saturated.
Battery
Sense
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app

Pros:
A legand in the smartphone industry.
Great overall device
Great development even after 2yrs
Best damn 1st phone a person could ask for
Cons:
Its starting to show its old age (a little)
Wasn't updated to its full potential (couldve easily handled sense 2.1)
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Pro: it is the truth that all others measure by. Still solid. Still strong.
Con: 512 on the ROM, RAM, whatever it's called its far too low.(who knew)
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app

Pro-its strong. Con-wish it was soda and water proof but I managed to save it, again lol.

Pro:
Easy to root
Great development still going on for it.
As others have mentioned, started off the Big Phone craze, to which I plead guilty.
Con:
My first one took a crap on me, had to get a replacement when I had it all set up just the way I liked it.
SD card placement (already mentioned, but bears repeating)
Low internal memory.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

Cannot think of anything to add as far as pro's go. However, as a con I'll say the USB port is a weak point, with all the broken USB port horror stories I've encountered, including my own.

Pro's - already covered
cons - hmmmmm

Pros: Best dev support of any device continuously over the last 2.5 years.

Samsung to buy MIUI

http://androidjet.com/will-samsung-...ch/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Thanks to Joey_UFC for finding this in the EVO 3D section!
Could we possibly see SGS3 running MIUI as a default UI?
That would be awesome but apple would just file another law suit lol

It looks like Sammy could also be buying up the best devs and putting them on lock down. Because I know from experience you cant work for a company and release your own brew of a product. Cause they also hired the dev from cyanogen.

I hope they do!!!! I would like to see them use MIUI optimize and make is AOSP compatible if possible. Touch wiz has too much headaches with apple plus, I hate the lockscreen and the interface has the slowest launcher and slows the phone down. This will make Samsung's phone far superior compared to the competition. Even with inferior software Samsung phone is faster than the competition image the possibilities. Samsung has a terrible reputation when it comes to the software on their devices this work help improve their terrible reputation and make them unbeatable.

I don't think it has to be with it being Miui, but more or less the probability of Samsung going after purchasing it. (But he's also said he doesn't care for Miui lol)
But also realistically speaking if Samsung were to buy Miui I don't think we'd get the one we'd all want to have but rather with Samsung's sometime erred perspective we'd get the bastard mixture of Miui and Touchwiz and it wouldn't be the best qualities of both.

Need Opinions on the Echo

I absolutely love my Evo and as far as I'm concerned it's still number one. But I've got this odd fascination with the Kyocera Echo and have come close to buying one a few times. There's something that screams nerd having those dual screens. I've yet to actually use one though. Have any of you tried it and what do you think of it compared to your Evo? And I don't see a forum for it here so is there any active development going on for it? Thanks.

If I wanted a tablet I'd buy one.
(By the way, on here, likely to be flamed quite a bit)

I don't think you'll get flamed. I don't reccomend getting the echo. IMO its ugly, too slow for two screens.. just not worth it. I'd rather recommend you getting a HTC tablet or something
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
My friend has one. I horsed around with it a little bit, it seemed flimsy to me.
Neet concept though.

Properly executed it could have been a sweet phone. If we had an evo sized phone that opened up like that, with little to no bezel in between, and a dual core processor I would drool.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think the opinion on the echo is almost universally negative. I'd love to know how many they've sold...I'd imagine it has to be in the very low thousands.
I wouldn't recommend that phone to anyone.

Well comparing it to the evo3d it basically has better specs plus hw acceleration which is a very nice feature. The screen is awesome imo, tho some people don't seem to like the oversaturated colours. Personally i love it but you have to check it yourself before you decide.
Anyway i wouldn't upgrade right now if i were you, you still have a very good phone, just wait for something newer and better, like the quadcores expected to come out in 2012

If this phone had IOS instead of Android id sell it, IOS is nowhere near as good as Android, everything works out of the box but your strictly limited in what you can do,i hate restriction.
Best phone right now without a doubt, having owned it since May it's been excellent! Pervious Android device was the DHD, it's faster, smoother and slicker!

Fastest android phone out there, but build quality could be better.
tbh the only phone that could probably knock the sgs2 off it's perch is the motorola atrix.. bigger battery and tegra 2, but then i've never used one so i have no idea about user experience.
Hello My very post here. Best phone I ever owned. it would have been perfect if it was a tegra Device can't see why they did that for a flagship Device !!!!
You will miss sense. Htc phones have better dialer, more useful widgets, like for example favorite contacts and rss reader, better sms delivery report, lockscreen and ringtone volume management. On other side Sgs2 has better multimedia support (mkv) better screen and weight, brilliant call quality and its very smooth in menus.

My friend, I think you should have asked this question before ordering it and may be read a thread discussing Galaxy Note issues:

Anyway, if you're after the big display, you won't regret. And be sure to read all the stickies and guides before trying to flash anything
I enjoy mine very much and I hope you'll be happy with yours as well!
p.s. If you purchase a case, make sure it's a "magnet free" one - many users (incl. myself) complained of S-pen interference from the magnet of the case.

Should't even think of trying the Note.
1. The real big screen will make your eyes taking more time in looking around it.
2. Its vividness will hurt your eyes.
3. You will not be welcome by stationery shop just because of the S-pen.
4. USB drive connecting ability allow you too much flexibility. This may force you to even carry a mouse everywhere with you just for doing something requiring such high precision on the Note.
5. It may waste lots of your times playing high-end HD games due to its too much CPU power.
Don't go for the Note please ^^

To the OP: Do read all the stickies as somebody already said. Flashing is NOT hard on the note, it just requires you to know what you are doing; once you read all the stickies carefully and thoroughly, am quite sure you would know what to flash, what not to and how to flash. Cheers!

Is it too different than flashing other phones?
Like, flash a recovery then copy zip and apply update?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA Premium HD app
the principal is the same yes, But however there is a major bug in the stock ICS kernel(s) can that cause hardbrick (brickbug) when doing a factory reset.
So long as you flash a safe kernel before hand you will be fine, Just read the guides and if you have any issues / questions, dont be afraid to ask.
Also check my Signature for real time IRC chat.
It's confirmed. Will get mine today after work. Got it for about 400 dollars, on my carrier points program.
The only problem I may have will be with kernels?

There's some stickys in development section:
Dr ketans to do with flashing stock roms, and a separate one for rooting and installing cwm.
Another on the superbrick or emmc bug affecting most ics kernels. Includes information on safe kernels that have had emmc format bug removed.
Those are the main ones to get you started.

Paranoid on this beast is awesome. If you go for paranoid, I'd recommend using v0.2a rather than 0.3, there's a couple of issues with gps and mms on 0.3. Imilka (the dev has said he's working on an update and he's usually pretty sharpish so think 0.4 will be out v soon.
Sent from my Paranoid Android GT-N7000. It doesn't get much better than this!
My note is Thailand version. There's nothing to be worried as long as you're not running yourself into hacking stuffs though I did once and even I did the famous frightening FactoryReset! when I was on Rooted Stock ICS after stuck in booting loops because of playing with VM Heap size tweak (set it below 64m will trigger this, so be careful).
I survive the night and day because of lots sharing in this forum. I learned how to do flashing ROM with Odin and other fearful stuffs I've never even though I would have need to get through it.
So, I recommend you just try using it, as it is first since pre-installed ICS may have something different, with 3 to 5 days/full recharge cycles and then let see any of what will be bothering you.
To have 14+ hours battery life on my Note with normal use (3G/Wifi all times, note taking, Facebook..etc..and of course the XDA app) running stock ICS, I did;
- Rooted
- Battery calibration
- SetCPU profiles
- Leave the SD Card slot empty
- Off auto screen brightness
- Manually control screen brightness, 30% to minimum values are good enough to my eyes
- OFF auto Hovering pen icon (ON only when I really need)
- OFF Screen Capture service (ON only when I really need)
- Freeze un-needed services
It's hard to identify which tweak saves how much % battery life, there are just cumulative tricks from my little experience. Lots of last tweaks are done by TB.

R.I.P.

After countless flashes and 3 devices I must lay my Og down to rest. Today my she decided she is done playing with me. The screen is a spiderweb of cracks (was a doner phone the donors kids cracked it) the power button has sunken like the titanic, and the volume buttons are hit and miss (most likely cracked solder joints). Now today the digitizer no longer responds most times. I am planning on putting out one more cyanmobile and jelly miui but they will really just be finishing touches no major changes. I have enjoyed my time with the og and will be in and out to check up on everyone and lend a hand where I can. Plus who knows another Og could be in my future.
For now may she rest in peace my dear beloved Htc Evo 4g! You were second to none and have aged gracefully unlike many your age you were active till the day you past your last electron in my hand. Your memories will be forever even though you were not. I will miss you but fear not you remains will be kept way up high on a pedistal for all to see. No device shall ever replace you no matter their processors, ram, or display. The Og will always have something they will not. The heart and soul to live on long after your EOL date. The developers here are second to none. Who would of dreamed the Og would run JellyBean and run every flavor like it was its own. Pacman, slim, aokp, carbon, cm blac, and on and on. Most of which many newer devices have yet to see.
Dude thats deeeep!hahahahaha,we'll miss the great roms brother.

Thank you. This is the second death I have had this month. The first was a real person but I am the kind of person who likes to put a good note on any sad event. Don't feel bad if a tear happens to make its way down your face as you read it because it was designed to move you. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but if the words are meaningful it takes a whole lot less than that. I find the saying that a pen is mightier than a sword to be closer to the truth. Well in this key it is my keyboard but it all boils down to the same.
Put some heart into your work and make the reader feel as though they are there and it is them feeling the emotions and then things start to happen. So if you reached for a tissue while reading my eulogy than yes I did my job almost as well as my og did its.
