I am trying to root my Evo 4G and seem to bee running into a brick wall. When I plug in my phone it asks to install the drivers. I have tried automatically finding and installing them as well as downloading the Andriod SDK and manually updating the drivers. Either way I recieve a message "cannot find the appropriate files."
Any suggestions?
HTC Sync has the drivers you need.

Then did you install the drivers from the unrevoked site?

You have to install HTC Sync, which will install the drivers, then uninstall it, which will just uninstall the program
okay. installed and then uninstalled the HTC Sync so the drivers are still there and unrevoked recognize my phone and started running the root. Now I'm stuck with "error: failed to get root. Is your firmware to new?"

So I'm needing to sbf and I'm currently on liberty 1.5 Moto drivers (specifically MTP USB) refuse to install (I currently have 4.9 installed) and RSDLite (ver. 4.9) refuses to even show my phone when I force it into bootloader mode. I'm really needing to go back to stock and I've been stuck playing this game for hours. Everything I see about MTP USb drivers are user error. I've gone through the install uninstall game, changing usb debugging etc and I'm running out of options on what to do next...
Try using rsd lite v4.8 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=72ILNCSN
Latest usb drivrs http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=bda09ec8009a0210VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD
Make sure to reboot your pc after updating drivers

i flashed Cyanogenmod7 recently and also decided to learn a bit about adb about the same time... i got to "type adb shell" in someone's adb guide but i keep getting the error "no device found"...
i also odined to stock this afternoon and when i tried the same thing, adb recognized it right away.
to satisfy curiousities, i can confirm 100% that debug is on, my cable is good and ive tried several diff usb ports as well as rebooted both my computer and phone.
adb worked with stock JFD 2.1 and stock 2.2 KB5, gave me the error in cyanogenmod 7.1.0 RC1
thanks in advance
You're going to need to use the android sdk to get the nexus s driver.
Google nexus s driver, and there'll be instructions from Google on how to get it installed.

I've looked everywhere on the forums and tried every known combination on trying to install my Nexus S 4G drivers. I've uninstalled all the drivers on my computer, shutdown my computer for 5 mins and powered it back on, downloaded the SDK Tool Manager, tried installing Google Drivers, tried using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit for the drivers...EVERYTHING. All I'm trying to do is get my computer to read my Nexus so I can re-root my phone. If someone knows something that will get my pc to read new drivers PLEASE HALP!!!
I get the same problem when i use my original usb cable. I solved my problem by using my nokia usb cable which also have micro usb plug.

There's a video "how to... .," and in the description is a link to a zip that has the correct drivers.
Let me know how it goes

i had exact same problem, i solved it by enabling usb debugging under developer settings. and i am on the factory usb line. and if youre on jellybean, make sure you enable the dev options on the top right corner as well. hope this helps.
I've seen that video several times and I have installed the drivers but even after installing them my pc still reads my Nexus as and Unknown Device. USB debugging is on and I'm currently running ICS 4.0.3. I haven't tried a different cable which is going to be my next step. I just have to find the one of the many I have. I will post an update here very shortly

Sorry for the delayed reply, being sick isn't fun.....I tried another cable and it didn't work either. I was at work last night with another cable and on my work computer and the computer still shows up as Unknown device. Could it be my root that's making my phone read like that?

Hello,
I have a desire HD (radio:Asia pacific-India)
I temp rooted and installed clockwork recovery. Now i want to update to blackout ICS 4.04
I followed the instructions on the web. I disabled windows defender, firewall, antivirus and not able to downgrade the firmware
i am getting some error. Each reboot goes to clockwork recovery to reboot the phone.
Any help is appreciated
Hm, if I remember right, aahk dealt with the recovery and everything as part of the downgrade, you installed clockword before using aahk? I'm no expert but don't know if that is part of the reason. what is the error you get when trying to downgrade?
EDIT: also, are you using vista or windows 7? If you are, maybe try running aahk as administrator?

if you are already root why is that u want to run the Hack Kit for? are you s-off? gives me an error is widely general...be specific. Besides, there's an IRC Support channel for the Hack Kit, you should use it.
If you have clockworkmod put the Rom zip on your sdcard using your pc and try to flash it from recovery. It will probably work and the Rom you flash will be already rooted. If it doesn't work post again but try to be more specific.

i have a stock nexus 4 bought last year from a relative, when they tried to do an OTA update to (i think 4.4) it restarted and gave an error with the android being open in the middle. After restarting the phone it's been stuck in the "X" bootup screen
i tried to clear cache partition and that didn't work.
i got the android sdk and tried to connect it to the computer. it was recognized as an android bootable device in the device manager, but nothing shows up in the file manager, and when i tried to run the "adb device" command no devices show up.
i guess my question is, is there a way for me to pull the data from the phone first before i do the flashing? i heard that if i get rid of the "-w" in the flash-all.sh/flash-all.bat then it'll prevent the data wipe, is that also true?
thanks for the help!
looks like u didnt install the drivers properly... update them first... or reinstall all the drivers... thankyou..

yeah, i did that and installed the usb driver, but it only shows up in device manager as "other device" and i can't access it. I guess i'll just factory reset and lose all my data haha... next time i'll know to always back up
i ended up unlocking the phone with
>>fastboot oem unlock
then ran the flash-all.bat file(on windows) and flashed it to 4.3 and it works now (no problems for now..)
