my iconia wont charge :( - Acer Iconia A500

When i connect the charger to my iconia tab will glow a orange ligth but after a while it starts bliking a red(maybe pink) ligth :crying::crying::crying:
I tested my charger and it seems to work fine
Is it a hardware or a software issue?

When you say you tested your charger, did you use a multi purpose voltmeter to make sure it puts out the correct voltage and amps?
Also, are you running a custom rom or factory stock?
If you have cwm installed you can wipe battery stats and see if it helps.
If not, and you are on ics you might try an ec flash through cwm.
Other than that, you probably have either a bad internal voltage regulator, unlikely, or a bad battery.
You can usually find battery replacements on the net. Just pop the back off and get the part number.
Or, you can send it to acer repair for warranty work.
MD

If you want to eliminate software or hardware from the equation just shutdown the tab and then connect the charger. If it charges then you know that the cause is in software. If it doesn't then it's the hardware at fault.

Do not boot the tablet. Just shut it down fully, connect charger and leave it for some time. Just observe the power button LED. It should be red while charging.

I have the same issue. Tried a million different ROMs and that didn't seem to solve the problem. The Orange/Red light comes on when the charger is plugged in but no matter how long I leave it on there the battery will say 12% when I get into Recovery.
---------- Post added at 03:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:56 PM ----------
Also, it may be good to mention that I can't mount the sd in recovery either, if this isn't a power hardware issue it may be related to that? I got the tab to boot but only the navigation bar shows and the top left corner says android system. Won't move past that.

This is in fact a charger problem; was having it I'm pretty sure its caused by your charger supplying the wrong amperage or voltage mine was doing it after it had been shorting out by the plug in. I took it apart resoldered all the connections put new wire in it and it worked like brand new never had had it since i would say do the same if you have the experience or know how if you don't they go on eBay for pretty cheap just make sure you don't get a fake one
Good luck

[Q] MB526 won't charge via USB, white LED on

I flashed my Defy with a custom ROM months ago and never had a problem. I left my phone for a few days and it's completely drained of its battery. I try to charge it using my USB cable connected to my PC, but the Defy doesn't show the animation where the battery is shown being charged; just the white LED and a black screen. When I hit the power button, it shows "bootloader 09.10, battery low cannot program". I know I flashed my phone correctly and have no idea why this screen is being shown. I didn't try to charge via wall outlet, I'm currently on vacation and only brought the USB cable with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: My phone is a regular MB525, flashed with with a custom Gingerbread that was posted in this very forum. On my PC the model reads MB526...
Once battery is fully drained occassionally Defy takes time to even boot up. So leave it in that state (Connected to USB ) for couple of hours and try again.
Tried and didn't work, I'm hoping plugging into the AC charger will fix this...though that won't be happening for another week..
Have you the possibility to try the battery in another defy or to use another battery?
Not until about a week..
Don't worry, your Defy will get charged when connected to wall plug.
Mine was the same situation as it won't charge on total empty battery over USB port.
But it charging normally as soon as I plug it to wall charger.
just make sure you don't flash it with any SBF!
OP! i had exact same problem and it snowballed into something huge. It started same as you did, my fone ran out of juice as I was in my office and I couldn't get USB port to charge it, all I had was white LED and black screen in my office. So, at home i plugged it into wall charger for 5 or more hours and I still couldn't see the battery that shows its charging, I tried a different wall charger and still same results.
Then my phone begin to atleast fired up in wall charger but got stuck in Moto M logo. I could only access bootloader and not the Boot recovery for some reason. I been stuck here since, my battery was fully charged externally and yet nothing, I even tried every combo (SIM in, SIM out, SD Card in, SD Card Out) etc but I couldn't get into boot recovery so I could just hard reset my Defy. I could only access the bootloader.
At that point I flashed by Defy with 2.1 SBF's like 7 of them with same results, no matter what SBF file I successfully flashed with I could for the life of me get into boot recovery.
Now, i am just sick and tired and hate Defy because its effed up. I am taking it to the shop i purchased it from tomorrow.
i guess im having almost the same problem.
my defy doesnt boot, only shows the white LED.
it is recognised by the RSD, but nothing happens.
cant boot, doesnt show anything on the screen.
what should I do?
macgyver is not working either
I had a similar issue and I used the macgyver trick and flashed a new sbf. The rom you are using possibly doesn't support charging in the off state.
Sent from my CM9 Defy
as a total android/motorola user
and i appear to be having the same issue, bootloader only!!
Could i ask what and where is the official unmodified rom for this phone.
Thank you.

Unfortunately that solution didn't fix the battery problem... and also the McGyver method didn't work.
I'm afraid that my girlfriend will need a new battery.
She was using an aged MIUI rom (more or less six months old). After the battery replacement should I have to flash the stock Froyo CEE rom via RSD or do you think that the will works again?
Did u fixed the problem ? How ?
I`m in same posture...
I'm still in the same situation. The battery is on stuck at 5%, even if I change the one I own with another one. I can't flash via RSD and I don't know how to fix this problem.

[Q] Boot problem - Resolved

Hi.
*I have read all 16 pages of the forum, and haven`t find any solution for my issue.
Have rooted with TouchNooter 2.1.31. Could not log into Youtube(error 401) and decided to go back to stock.
For that I did standard Erase&Unregister and then used recovery image from thread (n2T-Recovery_0.2.rar)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289233.
Recovery went well. Got my nook back to stock 1.0.1 version.
Then I wrote nook_1_1_update.zip to nook`s partition and waited till it reboot and begin to install.
When the message "...Install is in progress do not power off..." appeared I went to sleep.
In the morning I found still the same screen and device not responding to anything.
I thought that maybe it discharged and have plugged it into USB, message appeared that "charge is in progress". After around 15 minutes I tried to power it on, but got message "...power is to low wait 15 min...". I left it plugged in and went to work. When I came back the charge led baecame green, but still the message "wait 15 min"
Now I`m here. Have tried all the buttons and times combinations suggested to bring it on but still nothing...
Thaks in advance for any help.
PS have no backup images

Does it try to reboot when you long press the power button? (10-15s)
No matter how long I press, nothing happens, at all.
When I connect it to PC there`s some new device blinking in "Devices and Printers(Win7)" something like OMAP3630

I'm putting my money on it being entirely out of power
When you have it plugged on the charger, does the led go orange, and does the led go green for a few seconds when you try to reboot it?
In the morning it was orange when I plugged in so I decided it is discharged and left the device for day. Now the led is green(when plugged to usb) and does not change.

Charging from USB can be very unreliable, use the charger.
In fact my NST is in the same state as yours right now because I left it in a half-booted state last night
My screen is blank and the only reaction I get is a small flicker on the LED and a tiny visit by the OMAP device
I know from experience that trying to charge it from my USB hub will not work, or take days, but if I use the charger it will wake up in about 20 minutes.
Arrr, havent ordered the charger >_<
Wait... I have connected it to my note and led is orange now, so the charge process is going on. Ill wait a while, maybe it`ll get some charge to boot.
Thanks for support ros!

Uhm, did it come without a charger?
Mine came with one although it was useless to me as I live in Norway, it kinda doesn't fit the sockets we have over here
I just use the charger for my mobile phone, it can deliver a lot more than my crappy USB hub
It now comes only with usb-cable, without charger. I live in Ukraine so saw no need to order charger too.
After 20 minutes still battery too low. Is there a possibility that I could damage the battery in some way?

Like Googie says, just give it time.
Mine usually awakes after 20min on my charger, trough a USB port it might take a lot longer depending on the device you're charging from.
And no, your battery is not in danger.
Agreed. When it gets completely drained it can sometimes take 20 minutes or an hour sometimes I've noticed even longer before I could get mine to start properly. The major issue though here will be if it stopped in the middle of an install you might need to use n2T-Recovery_0.2.rar to get it to properly boot before trying to update again.

[Q] HD2 Stuck in loop on power up

I had MAGLDR v1.13 with Android 2.2 on my HD2. Everything worked fine, until tonight, I booted the phone into the MAGLDR. I had the menu up for a few minutes. All of a sudden the phone powers off.
Now it's stuck in a loop - if I press the power on button, I get a vibration, and "T Mobile" logo comes up ,and then the screen goes dark again.
I tried removing the battery to no avail.
How can I fix it?
Update:
Now it's even worse: The T mobile screen no longer comes up, regardless of how long I keep the power button pressed.
Thanks!
Can you still get into boot loader? If so, try doing a factory reset on it.
It sounds like your battery might have died. I know that when you are using MAGLDR. You can not charge the battery unless you are booted into the OS. Not to mention it takes a little more power to boot up a device.
You may want to try and charge your battery some how or try another battery if either are possible.

Yep, wanted to point out the same. I had been away and couldn't get to my charger on time, so my phone went off completely and when I finally managed to connect the charger it made it all the way to WP7 startup screen and then went off - not enough to get the battery to start charging. I connected the charger, made it to the MAGLDR menu and left it for about 10-15 minutes with charger inside, then I removed the charger, removed the battery, reinserted both and was able to boot into windows and charge properly. Somehow, even though it's just MAGLDR and no charging light is showing, you can still manage to charge it just enough to start the OS. Worth a try... Although in your case it sounds like your battery is already gone beyond getting to even the MAGLDR.
The only other alternative will be to charge in another phone or use desktop charger.
Take an old USB lead, mini micro doesn't matter,
Cut end off,
Plug into wall charger
Red to + black to - on battery (can hold with your fingers, wont hurt)
Hold for about a minute
Battery back in and real usb in, and should boot far enough for charging to start.
Thank you all! It was indeed a dead battery!
How could it drain so fast, since it was about 90% when I started using it?

I feel mine is on the way out, actually. It charges etc, but acquired a tendency to go off unexpectedly and fail to start up the device beyond MAGLDR and on rare occasions beyond the logo. Discharges unnaturally quickly too. I have a spare, so not a huge deal, but I prefer to have a fully charged spare in my bag, just in case. Just ordered 2 replacements in anticipation of it dying.
Glad we could help, hehe, I bet you were tearing your hair out thinking it was your phone.

[Q] Timur's USB Rom - How to wake with power?

Hi, I'm setting up my 2012 Nexus for a fixed installation. I have Timur's rom installed, and can't figure out why it won' wake up when power is applied. I have the tasker profiles set up properly, it shuts off without issue. I fine that when it sits it goes into a sleep where it wont recognize the external power returns.
If I turn it on manually I can see the charging state still says discharging witht he power plugged in, if I then unplug and plug it back in the the tablet already awake it changes to charging and my tasker profile runs.
Any suggestion?

To clarify, this only happens after it sits for a few minutes and sleeps. If I unplug, the tasker profile works and shuts the screen off, if i immediately plug back in the tasker profile works and turns the screen back on. It's very frustrating that i goes into a depper sleep that tasker can't wake up.
Is this a rom issue? I thought that was the main selling point of this rom

Hi guys,
I've done the same thing, but on a 2012 Nexus 7....
I know I had a simmilar but reverse issue with mine - it wouldnt shut down into sleep mode!
Can you confirm your's actually shuts down when you turn off the ignition - do you get the shutdown screen (sports car with "Usb Rom shutting dowin in 1...2...3... etc")
May sound a silly point, but my solution turned out to be my cheapy chinese amp that also provided USB power for the Nexus.
It shut down the amp on ignition off, but kept the USB powered, hence the N7 was always getting power, and never actually entered deep sleep!
Also, I didnt use any Tasker scripts with mine?
Dont kno if that's required for the 2013 N7...
You can see me install here...https://plus.google.com/+CharlesMiddleton/posts/HqGbwP8mcGv

I take it your N7 shows charging when plugged in, then discharging when you remove the power?
If your lead etc wasnt providing power in the first place, USB Rom wouldnt detect when it wasnt to know to go into deep sleep?
Something to check / confirm..
I have the exact same problem as OP
Anyone know the solution?
OP did you find any solution? I'm running off a Cig lighter adapter which pushes 2.1A power. I thought it was the issue but it seems not. I tried various USB cables too but no luck!
I am going to dig this one out. I am have the exact same problem, has anyone found a solution to this?
Did anyone figure this out?
Mine all of a sudden started working the first time I plugged in an OTG charge cable with USB Flash Drive. It may or may not be a coincidence that this is when it started working. I wish I could be more help, I havent had issues with that part of it since.
Maybe try another OTG cable?

My Galaxy S5 will not turn on.

My Samsung Galaxy S5 has recently stopped working as in refusing to turn on with a fully charged battery. This all happened when my charging port broke on my S5 and I didn't want to repair it from a technician as it costs a lot and I'm not really a DIY person. So what I did was exposed the red and black wires in a Micro USB cable and hooked it up to the two pins at the side of the battery (I knew that this had a chance to ruin my phone). This worked perfectly fine until one day i hooked it up, it was playing static through the speaker and a green light popped up in the LED (this is where I think the problem occurred). After this occurrence I decided to leave it and buy an External Battery Charger and a 2nd Battery just in case. When I put in the battery ,hoping it would work, it did not work and when I held down the power but it keeps making a VERY faint ticking noise and sometime a faint beep too.
I have already tried removing SD card, putting pressure on near the power button, booting it into recovery mode and taking out the battery and putting it back in after holding power button.
If there are any solutions please tell me. If there are no solutions then please tell me that too.
Thanks,
Kashif.

Ok, I assumed as much, just making sure because it is dangerous to run on assumptions.
The fact that recovery boots is a good sign I think.
For the record, and to help us help you, please state
Exact S5 model # (eg G900T/A/F/P, etc)
Baseband version # if you know it
ROM version (eg Stock, Lineage 14.1, AOSP 6.4, etc)
Recovery version
Just to be clear, you state that the charging port is broken, will it just not charge, or is usb function disabled as well, meaning is it detected from computer in recovery/download mode?
Have you checked the physical port itself for bent pins/foreign matter, etc? I have personally had this happen on more than one phone, causing all manner of strange behaviour.
Please bear with my seemingly foolish questions, I'm just trying to establish fact from assumption
