Waiting a day before root access with Nooter? Why? - Nook Touch General

Can someone explain why this is neccesary from a technical point of view? I have a Nook Simple Touch
Also, is it normal for it to say "A server error has occurred" before the day has passed before I gain market access? (my wi-fi otherwise works fine and I have done the other steps)
I also cannot go back into the Youtube app or Opera Mini app anymore (it just flashes and will not enter the app, whereas previously I could access the youtube app in order to sign in and link my account).
I am following the instructions on this page:
http://nookdevs.com/Nook_Simple_Touch/Rooting
I have done everything up to and including the gmail syncing. Will I have to wait the day and why is this exactly? Is the error message I get from market normal?
Thanks

I read somewhere that you could try to set the date / time to 23:55 and wait until midnight but not sure that's the case. Maybe you also need to set the timezone to pacific time zone... good luck. (Unfortunately I read this after waiting for about 16hrs for my market to work, so haven't verified if it works).

HD2 Twitter: Peep won't log in

Any of you guys experiencing this? It was working this morning, then I went to check it this afternoon and it had logged itself out. I went to log back in and it tries to log in and then just goes back to the login screen. Any help would be much appreciated.
Nevermind. It's just decided to start working again. What a retarded application. Anyone know the difference between free and paid version of moTweets?

I had similar to this a week or so ago, I must admit, it was due to me doing a clear out of "temp" files
If you go to the Settings Tab, then into Data Services, switch off the Twitter (under 'Social Networks') and press back.
Now, using a file explorer (I have Total Commander for example), there is a "Temp" folder in the root of all the files.
In there, there is "TwitEng", remove this (or rename it if you wish).
Reboot the device, and then go to the Settings Tab again, then into Data Services, switch Twitter back on.
You should now be able to log in.
Thanks for the tip
Check whether your GPRS connection uses a proxy server. This was what stopped Peep working on my UK Virgin connection.
Look in 'Settings>Menu>all settings>connections>connections>manage existing connections>proxy settings'

Hmmm - I've just started having the same problem on my HD2. I've tried both of the suggestions above to no avail. I'd also read somewhere that I should log out of any desktop session of Twitter as well after removing Peep in the online settings and have found that this hasn't helped.
I wonder if anyone has been able to fix or even reinstall peep using a .cab, before I go looking for another app to use instead. - It'd be a shame as it is handy having peep in the Sense menu.

[Q] Google Account - applied Dexter Mod 1.2

Installed the Dexter upgrade 1.2. Update went flawlessly. Followed all the steps outlined in earlier posts. Now have Calendar!!!! and market icon. When I try to add my gmail account I get the following message -
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server."
I can sign into my gmail account through the browser...but can't seem to connect via the "add a google account" or through the gmail icon (which was not a problem before the upgrade.)
Also tried to set up a new gmail account. Get the same message.
Any ideas?
Make sure your date and time is set correctly
Time and date are set properly. But I switched to automatic just in case...
Still get the same message. Worth a try though. Thanks.
Market issues
I am having the same issue with the google / gmail account setup. It does not appear to be connecting through the wireless when connecting to google. I have let the inital connection fail then it sets up the wireless and that gives the message about not being able to connect to data services (cell network). I can browse with the browser fine and is otherwise normal but will not set up google accounts. Did the factory wipe and the install went great without any other issues.
Cannot get to market HELP!
Ok this is a major problem, market won't allow you to sign in with your google account. Ever since the update to 1.2 is like they put a lock on the market! I wiped both the user settings as well as the cache before updating to 1.2 and I am still locked out. Can anyone clarify what I am doing wrong?!
still not working
OK...came to my office and tried a different wireless network..not that I thought that was the problem, but anything is a shot. I have wiped the cache, etc. et.c
Still a no go.
All the workarounds that I have found use You Tube...but A7 doesn't have You Tube and no other sites that I can access offer it.
Since this thread isn't on the "developer" part of XDA not sure if anyone who can help is seeing it.
Here's the upside...I didn't have market before..so I haven't lost anything except a lot of time.
Has anyone gone back to the previous mod version to see if it doing the same thing? Could it be an issue with Google and not the mod?
I have not done that...but will try it tonight. I had othe problems with 1.1...FC on both sound and brightnes and the calendar, so I went right to 1.2 after that rather than load anything back onto the device.
This has been happening since yesterday. the g tablet section is having the same issue, as are many other I'm sure. Google seem to be screwing with the market.

BTW...took about 30 seconds to install...what a pleasure.
That worked great!
My other A7 is now working without the Market enabler, so looks like Google was screwing with stuff yesterday...
Thanks for all the help

[Q] not able to access twitter app

Hi, I used to use the HTC twitter app in Sense. But from one day to another I cannot access anymore. I get the message "You entered an incorrect username or password". I tried with different twitter accounts but I get always the same error. I also tried to access with email and username.
Any idea what could be the problem?
Thx.
Little information that I bookmarked myself but not conclusive, just know we're done with Twitter apparently. Some help for you maybe is here (won't fix it but explains why you can't access like the rest of us).
Read CFB's explaination on this (Cudos to him again), concise explaination that is apparent throughout the web and Google search:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=562773&highlight=twitter,+peeps&page=34960
This is just a site I saved (I read here often):
http://phandroid.com/2010/09/01/htc-peep-or-friendstream-not-working-its-oauths-fault/
Have you tried out moTweet, many have gone this way and it is ok comparitively.
Thanks for this information. I was fearing something like this.
Actually I am using motweet since Peep is not working anymore.
Regards.
Not sure how deep your interest is in this but heres CFB's full write up, if you look at his last tweet at the bottom you get good news on recent developments.

Peep is working again. Log out via Settings Tab > Data Services > Log out of Twitter. Then log in the same way. Keep in mind (if you read my posts about it) that this does not resolve the security issues with the application. It still leaves your session open to hijacking, but it does work again.
If HTC does not fix the problem, it will only go out again in the future.

[Q] TouchNooter: Where is YouTube?

I have tried rooting my NST using TouchNooter 1.11.20 following instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1343143
But, I do not see YouTube app or anyhing like that. There is Gmail, but no YouTube, where I should sign in.
What am I missing?
Nevermind, I found the YouTube app, but I still cannot get Market working -I am getting "A server error has occured" message. YT and Gmail work.
Any ideas what might be wrong?

If you check in on the TouchNooter 1.11.20 thread over in the development forum, you'll see that this seems to be a common problem. It appears based on those postings that the Market app will start working after a certain time (overnight?), assuming everything else is correct.
I've discovered that you can get into the Market without waiting by adding a SECOND account. (In Gmail, click into the settings from ButtonSavior, then click accounts, and there'll be a button to add one.)
I discovered this by accident trying to set things up for my wife. I thought there was a problem because she did not have a Youtube account set up through her Google Apps account. So I went ahead & added my account to the NST to make sure the rooting process had worked, and lo and behold there was the Market. Now I needed to figure out how to delete my account (which I still haven't figured out how to do!), but in the process of researching that, I ran across this business with a delay for the market to start working.
I then wiped out my NST and went back to the backup I made before I started all this (version 1.1) so I could try again with a different account.. and a third time too, just to make sure with a different order of accounts. It was consistent: the first account gives the "server error" message when opening Market; the second goes right in.
Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of one of the accounts that's set up. Anybody know that one? If the "Accounts & Sync" setting I'm used to in stock Android is there, it's well-hidden. (For that matter I'd like to get rid of Gmail... or at least not have it auto-sync.)
Slartiwhatever,
thanks for your comment, registering second account and syncing it fixed my problem too! I do not really mind having two accounts set up, so this works well enough for me.

Force Google Email app to work for Exchange?

Right now I'm using the stock Samsung Email program for my work Exchange. However, I'd ideally like to look at the Google Email program because I think the notification from that will work better with my Android Wear watch.
I know when I first got my phone I could use either one but that was back on 4.4.2 (I think). Since upgrading to 4.4.4 I can't get the Google Email program to work. Play store won't let me download it saying that it's not compatible with my phone. I was able to find a apk and side loaded it, but when trying to set it up to connect to my Exchange server, it flashing for a very brief second saying it's trying, then gives me an error saying it can't connect.
I'm quite positive I have all the setting right as they are the same settings I use with the Samsung program. I'm guessing there is something going on that's blocking the Google Email app from running.
I'm running a stock ROM, but am rooted.
Any ideas?
I'm not rooted, but have that working. Mostly.
I had to sideload 2 apks:
1. com.google.android.gm.exchange-6.5-1533254-500065-minAPI14.apk
2. EmailGoogle.apk
I'm reading these names out of my phone's Download directory - not sure where the links came from anymore - probably apkmirror or similar. The first one I listed is a different version of the Exchange service than came on the phone, and 2nd is a different version of the GMail app than we were getting.
Once those were loaded I could set up both my Gmail account and my work/exchange account to work from the same Gmail interface.
I get an ongoing Authentication Error status message. Exchange still works, but the message is an annoyance I have learned to ignore.
Good luck.
