ASUS Device Tracker and a possible security threat - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hey fellow Transfomer users, I've recently started this thread on a security issue on the TF700 Infinity and I wonder whether it affects other ASUS tablets as well. Are you able to use this "feature" without being asked for allowing any privileges on your device? Is CMClient (& possibly DMClient also?) responsible for it too on your device?

Don't know. Don't care. I'm not paranoid enough to think Asus is spying on me.

That's exactly what the phrase "to miss a point" defines.
Thank you for your valuable addition to the subject.

The point is you're paranoid to the point of starting multiple threads on it. If you're so paranoid, I suggest you never use a 3rd party keyboard, or web browser. They could gather much more sensitive information than Device Tracker.

They can be blocked by DroidWall much easier. If you don't understand the difference, perhaps you should do some reading instead of making posts that don't say anything.
And no, they can't gather more, if the DT can gather everything. Pretty much logical, isn't it.
And I find your ad personam arguments an appalling way of having a discussion, not in accordance with XDA rules, too (I could as well say "the people from New York I got to know were much smarter and more polite, you must be from Bronx", but that doesn't prove my point, does it?).

I didn't start an argument. You did. I just pointed out that you're paranoid, and then you didn't like it. It isn't my fault that you are, and also overly sensitive. To quote what you said in your original thread: "I'm not saying ASUS is spying, I'm saying there is a possibility to do so". Now you felt the need to spread to this to other forums.

I would guess that using anything Google or Facebook or other software, hell, just going online, is giving away much more information than Asus is gathering. They may have some marketing hands in there, but they're probably more interested in their hardware and things specific to it's use.

While I love a good discussion, I.thought it might be helpful for you to read and digest this very recent thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230867
If you have something to add after reading this one, why not add to the original thread, which will put it back on the front page.

Why is there no development for the thrive??

Seems to me the thrive is one of the 2 clear winners among android tablets. So what gives? Does the thrive have STD's or is there something I'm missing? Full size ports, replaceable battery. I mean the thrive is all that android represents. I want to buy one but I can't pull the trigger until I find out why there are zero dev's on this devive.
Thanks

Check out TabletRoms.com and ThriveForums.org.
There's a new Thrive model shipping later this year. According to Engadget a dual core at 1.5 mhz - not quad core but I wouldn't be surprised if they bump it up to quad.
Perhaps that's why?

How do you still have a xda account. And why do I want to go to some substandard forum. I'm just buying a Asus prime.

Don't be crackpot, we are here to learn, not read your whining. This section for the thrive, and not happy with it or want something else
go to that forum. I love my thrive, price, $299, full size ports, and great developers, can't ask for more.
Sent from my Thrive, rooted and looking for more.
There are developers working with the Thrive. They just aren't on this forum because it doesn't pay any attention to the device. We have custom roms and overclocking and we've developed workarounds for some of the known issues/shortcomings. Why you would call it substandard is beyond me...just sounds like someone speaking from ignorance.

You know it is people like you on this forum that has made me move on to a different forum for all my development. I am a long time member of XDA, but just got tired of how a lot of people flamed individuals for asking questions. We are supposed to be here to help out. Although I even get tired of answering the same questions over and over, I will still help an individual and at a minimum, point them to the answer. Then I will let them know that reading and searching goes a long way. That is the way it should work. Being told that that has been aswered 100 times already does no one any good. So, like you have been told, if you do not like the Thrive, then more power to you. Go get the Asus Prime and go bother them.

Unless you have actually looked and read the forum and checked out what has been done I would say that you are nothing but a simple minded troll that needs to be ignored!!!! Maybe you should get a ipad it seem it would fit you perfect!!!
I swear, I don't understand it. All this rooting, then all the post's about what doesn't work right, after rooting. Maybe the reason there's not too much development for the Thrive, is because it doesn't need any? I like my Thrive bone stock, with the latest upload. It works fine, no problems, no complaints. I also have a Dell Streak also bone stock. Now flame away boys...............
You are correct. I do like being rooted, but I stick with a fully stock ROM that is rooted. That is also the ROMs I offer.

[GUIDE] Flash genuine and working ICS with CWM and Root on ALL TF101

EDIT:
Post Removed. I can't be arsed dealing with idiots.
nice guide but i believe this should be moved to general
I'm thinking now there is nothing here that wouldn't work on ANY version of TF101, including SBK-V2 models.
Thoughts anyone? Anyone brave enough to try?
I will try this now on a B60. Tks for the tips
EDIT: Done it. Worked perfect!
it might be a stupid question, but how do i flash an image?
Edit: i thought that i would download an img file, but now everything works great, thanks

Rooted my tf101 earlier from another thread and now installed cwm very easily because of this thread. Thank you.

Works!!!!! I tested in my tf101 b8okas.

At this point, the only thing that seperates a B60 and below vs b70 and above is the ablility to nvflash. B60 and above can nvflash because of having sbk 1. Good info though.

Yep I was initially being over cautious, I didn't want to be responsible for problems on sbkv2 systems as I had no way to test.
Have updated the first post to indicate its suitable far all TF101, now it's been tested on a B8O

I'm able to get the ICS upgrade to install, however when it reboots I get the Asus logo and a circular progress bar that never stops.
Hi.
I have a asus tf101 b70-s/n and it won't allow me to access the microsd from the recovery screen in cwm. It says unable to mount sdcard and won't format it either. I have tried other cards and same error. I have used sdcard formating program and I have tried commands in terminal. My version of the tablet reads an interior sdcard, which is not recognized in cwm. So this is obviously a huge problem if I'm to perform the factory condition flash.
I've been trying for days, different methods. Any help in the right direction would be nice. Thanks.

Come on... that guy does not belong here. If you do not help people, do not post here.
MOD Please delete thread. OP deleted original Post that made thread worthwhile. Apparently he did not feel like playing nice and took his ball and went home.
Ugh. When are people going to grow the hell up around here?
Both parties are wrong. OP is childish for removing helpful post ( not sure entirely how helpful since it's gone!) And those who talk ish to someone trying to be helpful. Wtf guys?

Samsung Acknowledges Exynos Documentation Issues

Here's an article about Samsung addressing the issue with documentation. I know they didn't give a solution and words are just words, but hopefully they are sincere.

It would make a lot of people upset if they were to tease a solution like this and then not do anything about it.

they've done it before, lets hope they don't do it again !
Its just disappointing how Samsung let it get to their heads as to how successful they've been in recent years. Forgetting that the same people who bought their devices contributing to their success are the same people asking for documentation and source. And to even go the extra step and tease a solution without honoring their word is just inappropriate.
Its actions like this that just makes one feel like sticking to the Nexus range of devices.

Lots of nice people on droid. Awesome!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
Understand your frustration - all of those with the bad luck of having or OTA'ing to MF3 are going bonkers. . .Really don't have any clue since this appears to be one of the truly hard fixes (oops... exploits) to find.
As to friendly Android folks, well actually there are. Even here . OK, you are right that XDA is different. Some threads are rather prickly and if you jump in with a "stray" comment they jump in and flame and complain.
But other threads are more mellow; and you can see the same, same, same, same, same, same, same, same, question asked again and again and someone will politely (more or less) answer these queries or refer the questioner to the right spot. . . So, that's not unusual. (sorry, the hot/repeat question these days seems to be . . . .MF3 ETA! :crying
But all this in not unique to Android. In the Apple support pages, which I frequent every now and then for my MAC issues, I found some rather brusque replies and non-helpful at that! It's not a function of OS. . .it's people and organizational/group culture.
XDA is a real mix of intense, "bleeding-edge" developers and users, who push their software and hardware in very dynamic ways, but who also can be edgy -and not in a good way.
XDA also has "normal" folks, who drop in for help, or add something they like and (unfortunately) sometimes even want to share it with others .
Finally, XDA has people (some with surprisingly high numbers of posts!) who have hardware or software problems and need help, but are also clueless. Sometimes folks in this last group are in need of help AND they are impatient or even demanding of the reply posters. . . that's kind of not a good approach!
I guess that makes XDA sort of like real life, it all depends upon who you meet!
There is no doubt that XDA can be a bit off-putting if you don't connect in the right way for the particular thread. but is that happens, don't worry about it! The next thread will be more helpful or understandable, or maybe even friendly . . .
Good Luck

There are plenty of nice people dankify... I'm one of them. But when I saw the title of this thread, my mind instantly went "uh oh".
It's something most of us had to learn on XDA, and it's usually the first lesson. Never ask for ETAs for anything. Never ever ever. There are some that get very bent about it, and in some cases understandably so, since everything done on here is done by donation and lots of thankless free time.
I'm no coder, I'm a leech, so I just try to help out where I can. I'm waiting for the MF3 bootloader unlock too, and it'll come. We just have to watch the forums and be patient.
Also, welcome to Android. I think you're going to find that you like it here, this one bump in the road aside
I appreciate it. Ya I'm so glad to have gotten rid of my crapy apple. Am able to do so much without mods that was needed on the iPhone to even do some. Can't imagine how cool it will be to get a custom rom. Hopefully soon
