Strange DSP-Kernel problem - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange problem with my defy. When I updated the Defy with the latest Pikachu Rom 2.x I noticed a strong performance gap. CPU was on 100% and did not get down. The process "bridge_recovery" (kernel) nearly got 95% CPU (beginning before even the lock screen is visible). On inspecting with adb I found the following problem related to the DSP:
dmesg output:

I tried different ROMs like cm7.2 and motoice on cm9, but both would not boot (30min+ on boot animation). WhiteRabbit booted, but I had the same problem with the bridge_recovery process. So I got back to Pikachu 111216 (from what I updated). The problem is not gone, but the old mod is successful on loading the firmware after some tries. Until that point, I have 100% CPU, too. This rom is useable, but some newer version would be fine.
It seems, the milestone had some similar failure: see at code.google.com /p/cyanogenmod4milestone/issues/detail?id=672 (Sorry, I am not allowed to post links)
But I did not found some real solution.
I hope, someone has an idea what to do?

Phone won't wake up

Every so often my phone just refuses to wake up. I press menu and the keys light up but screen never does. I press call+menu+end to reboot and screen still doesn't wake up. Second time I try call+menu+end screen finally wakes up and device reboots. I'm running CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 and have a custom bootscreen. Does this seem like a hardware problem or software? Any help is much appreciated, thanks.
After flashing a new ROM, the problem seemed to go away but came back. Everything seems to power on except the lcd. I can tap and hold to move an icon but nothing shows on the screen. Is there a certain app that would cause this or is it hardware? I've disabled compcache and swap and it made no difference. Any advice appreciated
I uncovered a little more info using dmesg over adb. Heres what it said

Is the code in bold at the end my problem? Is my hardware broken or could this be just a software bug?
I also tried an older CM build and same thing is happening. Is this officially hardware? Would I be able to get it replaced by HTC considering I got it unlocked on eBay?
umm u might wanna wipe...n if that doesnt work..(drastic measures) run dreaming.nbh in the spl bootloader and reroot
I've wiped and flashed a different ROM twice, no luck. How do I run dreaming.nbh? From the shell in recovery?

Telus Desire HD users need your help

Can anyone who has a Telus Model Desire HD post a logcat during boot and a dmesg after boot for me? I am working on a project and need some info.
No telus desire hd users?
The Telus Desire HD is an Inspire 4G but with an HTC logo on the back rather than AT&T. Thats the only difference in the two hardware wise, they're both A9192's. Software wise, its just a different cid (661 builds are for canadian market, thats why the sensation's .661 build is for Bell Mobility, the Evo 3D's build for Rogers is also .661, and why Telus' DHD build also has .661 in its build numbers)(at&t's CID is 502)
You can ask Inspire 4G users for their logcat's too, they'll be the same thing. Both have the same Hboot version in 2.43.661 (telus build) and the 2.47 (cingular build)
... just sayin.
Only reason I ask is because the Telus Desire HD ruu do not have dualmic enabled but the AT&T Inspire 4g does have dualmic enabled. Both the kernel config and dmesg when booting the telus ruu on an inspire show that dualmic is disabled. So if you someone does have one I would like to read the logs from it to see if the telus really doesn't have a dualmic.

It just doesnt have dual mic enabled, because telus doesnt feel that its neccessary (another reason why I dont use the stock rom on my A9192) (the dev's that work for telus arnt the brightest in the bunch either)
do me a favor if you have a telus desire hd, right after a boot do this
adb shell dmesg | grep revision
What revision does it return
<6>[ 0.245697] spade_init: revision = 128 this is the desire hd without a dualmic
if it = 129 than it does have a dualmic.
mine's got 129. (not running stock software, everything's been changed)
what value did your A9192 have
I have an Inspire 4g.

... again, its the same device hardware wise (down to the smaltest spec), just different logo on the metal backing.
If you have time could you test this rom for me

Help! Stuck in bootloop ("E:Can't open /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MSC"
something went wonky with my device when I was experimenting with unlocking/rooting earlier today. I've managed to get it stuck on the Google logo. I've tried flashing different versions of Google's stock roms through Nexus 7 ToolKit, Nexus Root Toolkit, and even Windows CMD using adb.exe numerous times (using a guide from androidcentral forums that someone on this forum linked to). When I boot into stock recovery, I get a strange set of messages. Perhaps this may have to do with my bootloop?
E:failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log

E:Can't open /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MSC
(No such file or directory)
E:failed to mount /cache (No such file or directory)"
I get pretty much the same errors when I soft flash CWMR, just in a slightly different order.
"E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't open /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MSC
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MSC
(No such file or directory)"
Through research, I found out that the cache errors are appearing because I haven't fully been able to boot my device. Could the "E:Can't open /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MSC" be the problem? I'm running out of ideas and patience!
so what are you trying to do now? flash a rom to at least get into desktop?
if you using CWMR, just boot into recovery and adb sideload a rom

Yeah, I'm just trying to get out of this bootloop. And I just tried sideloading 2 different roms in CWMR. Got the same error as before both times.

It seems like my "E:Can't open /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MSC" is originating from /misc
More specifically, the MSC apparently relates to bootloader commands and other misc stuff.
Is my Nexus 7 boned?
To my knowledge MSC is never mounted and never contained a valid file system.
It might be used as part of the BCB (Boot Control Block) by the bootloader, but it isn't obvious to me why the custom recovery would be trying to *read* it. Write it - OK, maybe (reboot instructions).
How about
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot format cache
fastboot erase system
fastboot format system
followed by a ROM flash?
[Edit] After further consideration, it is a bit odd that the recovery is claiming that the MSC raw device does not exist - that should be plumbed into the device tree after the kernel reads the emmc partition table during kernel initialization.
The weird thing is that if the partition table was borked (missing misc partition), I'm not sure that the bootloader would even behave correctly.
If you can get an adb shell to the custom recovery, you might try to get a kernel log immediately after booting, e.g.
Code:
adb shell cat /proc/kmsg > kmsg.text
or
Code:
adb shell dmesg > dmesg.text
and see if the kernel is having trouble reading the partition table (iirc the log enumerates all found partitions)
First 1/2 of the dmesg.txt

I just booted my grouper two times - once using TWRP 2.6.3.1 and once using a CyanogenMod 10.2 kernel (a nightly from 9/22). Here are the mmc- related kernel messages:

I wouldn't be very optimistic. That seems to suggest that your kernel can not detect ANY valid android partitions.
I note that you seem to have a eMMC Flash Memory chip from a different vendor than I (HBG4e vs. MMC32G). I doubt that is relevant, though.
I am not aware of a single report here in the N7 forums where someone actually altered or restored the eMMC partitioning.
I'm sure it can be done - but only by Asus (perhaps with an engineering bootloader, or using nvflash with knowledge of the security keys).
sorry.

Touch screen on a MID tablet

Ok, so I'm one of these people still messing with an Allwinner A10 device. Like a noob, I wiped it out without backing up the original firmware. Of course, now I'm having the same issue that it seems like lots of other people had: touch screen issues. I found a nice JB rom (tablet originally had ICS), and everything works great except for the touch screen.
I won't bother posting my whole dmesg results here, but here's the touch screen section. Seems like I've got a LOT of drivers in this rom! My question is... how the heck do I know which touch screen driver I need?? I've torn this tablet apart and identified every chip on the whole board and their functions. Is touch screen functionality in its own chip? I can't seem to find it. Help me out if you can!

Porting Nvidia Shield/foster kernel.

In June this year, I planned to run a modern kernel from Nvidia on the Nexus 9. yet I encountered a number of difficulties. Some of them I was able to solve recently.
But great progress has not been achieved in the launch. We need to rewrite the "Power Tree" and whatnot.
All this is because of the large gap in the current kernels.
I hope someone who has the time and knowledge can help in this work.

I wish you all the best man! What your doing is way above my knowledge set.
To be honest I thought you gave up but o boy I was wrong.
Well anyway I will try to help but I don't know how much I can do.
Slightly altered pinmuks file. Current log does not look good but ....
Can continue work with the "tree of devices."

I took a kernel for an android 511. This kernel starts noticeably better. The following log. I need to improve a bit and think recovery already started.
To old.
Without success. Falls kernel version 67+. Do not connect the second core. PSCI 0.2 version does not work for some reason. Ideas come to an end.
For those who want to try the kernel from my repo b 107.

Does it actually work then? Will it work with a Nougat rom?

This is a standard kernel, with my corrections.

shoud there be a disclaimer to not flash on top of fire ice? since fi uses custom f2fs
it runs great btw
Wow!
I hope you'll not giveup, it's very good try. I wish the best to you. If you do this - i think all owners will kiss your hands and foot.
Running pretty well so far. Just wish for fast charging.
Changed the a branch port kernel to https://github.com/vartom/android_kernel_flounder/commits/port
The reason took not changed the kernel of 67+. Log looks a little better. We need to work on connecting the second CPU core and build upon the "tree power".
Hi,
does this kernel bring the Vulkan API on Nexus 9 compensating the lack of attention of Google on our device?

Replacing the the kernel can pull a replacement driver in Android. Probably in this case will be able to connect Vulkan API, or even be CUDA.
Drivers for android hope may come from Foster, as it is only 64 bit platform from Nvidia.
You can do it, man
What is main problem? Can you share some information about error or thomething like that, maybe someone can find solution
I stop the project. For my tasks enough current configuration.

Sad to hear, but quite reasonable considering you were doing what an entire Android engineering team could not be bothered too. Are you planning to continue working on the stock kernel tho? Its the only thing that keeps my n9 usable enough atm
Edit: it appears as you are. rly appreciate it
Is there a final version to try please?

Yes. I will continue to work with the stock kernel.
Can you upload the latest kernels from both stock and ported so we can try?
Thanks in advance
