Looks like the nexus 7 doesn't come with the news and weather widget! Is there any replacement in the play store? Anyone know why this is missing on the n7?
Right now my only option is a bookmark.

I use glass Widgets... news weather and Calender all in one or individually... very clean looking... been using it for awhile now on my gnex and n7

One of the let downs is that the HTC News Widget that is present in the Desire rom is missing on our incredible. I've pulled it from the rom and attempted to install it but it simply will not work. Once we get root it should be as simple as pushing the app. Has anyone had any success getting it installed?
I have installed the News Genie widget that we used on the Moto Droid.
Here is the actual news widget taken from the Desire I believe.

Yeah I was able to pull it. Just no way to install it right now sadly.
I used that one we used on the Droid, like spotmark posted. It is the same thing, just not with the semi-transparent widget.
At least we have that until someone "makes" a themed one.
The one that I posted is the naked one. No framework.

Not sure what "naked" means, but that is the normal "unskinned" one (it isn't tranparent or translucent or anything).
I thought they wanted the themed one?

Yeah, that's what I meant. I thought you were talking about the one with the black background.

The Inc has this widget already. If you are looking to theme the widget (or theme in general), you can now root the Inc and do all that.
EDIT: sorry, you asked exactly that ... lol ... I misread your post. I cannot delete this post though, so I guess I'll leave it.

LOL! No worries! I was freaking out because before I posted in here I updated the HTC widget list on my device and still didnt have the HTC news widget and was kinda confused cuz I dont have it in my list of HTC widgets.
just tried and got the same result, has there been any luck yet? Cause i don't wanna have to change roms to get it
p.s. i have the stock rom with root
You can Get the news and weather widget here. It the same apk from the nexus one and has been tested and works with no flaws on the incredible.

1)Scroll to the bottom of the page, and download "Genie Widget".
2) Place the downloaded file on your SD Card.
3)Use "Astro" file manager or another file explorer to find and install the app.
4) you can apply the widget by long pressing the home screen and selecting the "News and Weather widget"
5) Enjoy your new Widget!!!!

Good news guys the HTC News reader & widget are included in the new OTA update.
I installed the leaked OTA yesterday and was shock to see HTC news under my programs list it works great too!

Hi I am in Canada and i just preordered the xperia play. Just wanted to know what is like the first things i should do when i get it? (im moving from an iphone to this). What are great android apps that i should download and such.

First android device huh? Well... Custom home screen would be number one, specially coming from iPhone, get something like launcher pro as it's my favorite, very customizable, but it might be a little much at first if you are in culture shock.
Emulators is a big plus and benefit to me if that's your thing. Almost everything on iPhone has it's android alternative except for a couple popular games. Is there a list of your favorite iPhone apps and maybe we can identify the android counterpat
thanks for the quick reply. games arent really my worry as im fine with going around trying new ones. things i wanted to know is if i can disable timescape and other useless addons. does the keyboard work fine or can i install some app to get the swype keyboard or something better? and that app you mentioned sounds cool, will definately try it.

Swype is my favorite keyboard replacement, the stock android one is good, but I heard the one that comes with this might suck a bit maybe? Better keyboard is a skin able keyboard replacement and you can skin it to look/feel like the iPhones.
As far as disabling stuff, you can to a point, but without root access (like jail breaking) you can't touch some of the lower level services. Home replacement is what I think you will want though, get launcher pro or adw launcher. Adw being very themeable. Launcher pro having more polish/settings.

It will replace your entire homescreen and everything that's one it - it won't however replace other parts of your system like the Timescape gallery, keyboard or music player. However, all those things are replaceable as well with many alternatives in the market and over here.

USA verizon version will not come with timescape and other sony stuff. It will come with a few verizon apps. I'm not sure about the Rogers version.

what is teamviewer and xda app
Teamviewer works like LogMeIn but for Win/Mac/Linux and for free. Xda app is a app that allows you to view this forum.
Also check out all these games with surprort for Xperia Play. make sure to download the specific versions in some cases.

The only apk you need is Teamviewer so you can scan the barcode on there site for that.

It's handy. But I wish it would keep a history like similar apps do, e.g. Shazam and Soundhound. That and the lack of sharing features.

if you like something you hear you can tap the album art and bookmark it in the play store. you can also share from there.
