Hello
I wanted to ask how can I get my user account in windows 8 all admin right because of annoying popups and utorrent cant access the root of my hard drive
secondly I bought a used laptop. I use to get 2 hours of batter life and now its reduced to about and hour. what step should I take to ensure my battery doesn't die. I am not asking what thing I can do to in windows to increase battery life. I am asking the BATTERY LIFE so that I don't have to replace the battery anytime soon

Admin rights:
go to the desktop control panel, choose user accounts, then change account type. Change your account to administrator.
You may already be an administrator, but UAC might be blocking utorrent. When you run it, right click the program and select run as administrator
Battery life:
Keep the battery cool. Make sure there is adequate ventilation around the bottom when you use the computer. Also, try not to use battery power when not necessary. If you can use AC power, it will use it. The more you use your battery, the more it will wear out.

My battery on the HTC Pure went from 45% charge to 2% auto-shutoff within a matter of 1.5 hours without any usage on my part. In fact, I had rebooted it and not touched it since.
The thing has been dying a lot faster after I installed some programs from Marketplace. I'm wondering if they are doing background processes that zap its power or what.
Any recommendations on monitoring what's going on in the background???
try to calibrate battery
(thanks helgee):
1. Discharge the device. Absolutely.
2. Take out battery for 60 sec.
3. Put the battery back. Don't switch on the device!
4. Charge the device by normal way (not by usb!) to the full state (green LED).
5. Take out battery again for 60 sec.
6. Put the battery back.
7. Switch on the device.
How can you discharged your battery? I didn't find a option on my Touch Diamond 2.

You don't do this unless you want to damage the battery.

Exactly the same thing here, after installing some apps from Marketplace, the batt started to drain very fast. Don't know why yet. The apps installed are:
Mobeedo
Bing
Pocketnow
The Daily News
I've removed Mobeedo, The Daily News and Pocketnow just to test if they were doing something.

I did this and it worked, now it appears to last even more than before.
Thanks a lot.

Fast battery discharge
I had this very same problem. I had it with WM 6.1 and the Pure. Both due to the same app. BING is your problem. If you have a memory card in your phone it causes it to be constantly accessed instead of just on demand such as with storing pictures from camera. This is a battery life killer. Ditch BING, remove your storage card, save what you want to a PC and wipe it. After that put your saved files back on the card and put back in phone. This should stop the battery drain issue. Hope this helps.
ALSO: Some people swear by the battery drain and charge thing...others do not. Use it if you like but without getting rid of BING or finding a way to keep it from accessing your memory card the difference you will see will be barely noticeable.

Hey Guys,
So I have a HORRIBLE battery life on my EVO 4G - Granted, I have tons of apps, and even with the Task Manager, I feel I am doing it wrong. I think you need to root the phone to delete Friend Stream for Sense - which I have heard can save you TONS of battery.
As it stands, my phone lasts about 3-4 hours with light use. If I am playing a game I will lose 5-10 % per 10 minutes... Anyways, I was wondering if someone would be willing to draw up a step-by-step "Dummies Guide to Making your EVO 4G Battery Last Longer" including all the various things that can help quite a bit?
This is one "Trick" thread I have found - I will post any other I find here - as well as hopefully we will get a great step-by-step tutorial for Stock phones to extend their life to what I hear some people get ( a day and a half + ): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700601 - Changing GSM PRL to CDMA
Thanks!
good on you man, one more happy camper
i dunno if i'm allowed to post other forum links on XDA, so i'm not going to risk it. but there's a fantastic tutorial on android forums that works perfectly for me.
I copy and pasted this from the other battery thread. I wrote this pretty quickly so ignore grammer mistakes, its late.
Just to add to all this. Bad battery isnt just a HTC Evo problem. Go read the forums of almost every android phone released and they all report the same things (in the beginning). Someone that has had a android phone in the past probably hasnt said much about battery. There are so many things you can do to increase battery.
1. manage your apps. Exit them instead of leaving them running (press back button until the app closes, or some apps you can Menu> exit) Pressing home doesnt close the app, it only takes you to the homescreen. Also change the sync times of all your apps. If you dont use gmail or google calendar, then uncheck the "sync" in Menu>accounts & sync> google. One last thing use a task manager (not recommended by some devs) I use it to end tasks of apps that use data, or ones that i use maybe once a day or once a week, i dont need them cached for quick returning, so i end the task all together. I ignore apps so they dont end that i use very frequently or ones that dont use data or run in the background.
2. Calibrate your battery once like so.. Charge your phone to 100% and then use your phone like normal until its so dead it shuts off by itself. Dont plug it into the computer or wall charger in that time. Then once it shuts off, plug the phone into a wall charger and charge it till its 100% again. After that, plug and play as much as you want.
3. Use less widgets that sync. If its really not that important, then just dont use it. If you do want them, like above, change the sync time. Also the weather app syncs, so if you dont check the weather every hour when its just hot and clear outside, change it to sync every 2, 3, or 4 hours.
4. Buy a car charger, usb cord for the comp, and maybe another wall charger. Buy an extra battery or extended battery (if available). Doing the above and adding these to them, youll have a huge increase in battery.
I have an htc hero and i can get well over 12 hours of use by just watching what syncs and what uses data. And i use my phone alot, and wake it up a ton to check for notifications.
I use a friends Evo so im not new to the device and I understand its a different phone.
Stock htc phones come with a lot of stuff preinstalled and widgets. When signing into them with your accounts the sync times are usually pretty high, some like every 15mins. Watch what you are doing with the phone and youll have normal battery life.
OP, I was in the same boat as you, needing to charge my phone several times a day, and if I was playing a game, I pretty much had to leave it plugged in.
1) I didn't delete friend stream, but I did change the update to once a day (default is every 2hrs), and I disabled sync live feed.
2) I also did the CDMA auto, battery trick thing that you linked.
3) I also did several of the steps posted on another android forum in a guide that someone created.
I would say doing steps 1 & 2, really made a HUGE improvement on my battery life. The phone will easily last an entire day while I play games, and browse the internet on it all day. The phone is still new so I play with it a lot. If I didn't play with it so much, I honestly feel the phone could last 1-2+ days without a charge now.
My battery life is awesome. I didn't have to remove things like friendstream. I used some of the battery life suggestions like the WiFi always alive, as well as stopping all the auto syncs I don't need. It only takes seconds to sync up manually as it is.
Also, at the suggestion of Android Central I bought "autostarts", best purchase ever. You should all get it. Unlike a task manager, which I still believe in, it stops apps from starting when they shouldn't. It shows you all the apps that boot at events. A lot of normal apps boot at virtually every event the phone has, most of which seem to have no relation to the particular apps. Now, after pruning all the events, my phone only runs the apps I load and a task manager has become useless for anything buy ending apps easily.
You can find 20 battery tips for the EVO here: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/05/20-tips-to-improve-htc-evo-4g-battery-life.html
light usage, with background data and auto syncing off, updates on widgets set at 4-6 hours, my location off. wifi on, with sleep set to never.
i had over 80% left after 16 hours.
Seriously my phone dies in like 10 hours or less. im a heavy txter and caller... so it dies pretty fast. i did root my phone, and i did download SetCPU and put it on conservative mode... but didnt help much.
Can anyone help?
try this
If you don't already have it, get a file manager like root explorer. next go into settings/ applications/ running services and that will show you what's eating up all your ram and in-turn eating up some of your battery as well. Figure out which apps are linked to the services that are unnecessary to you and get rid of them. This should help speed up your phone at the same time as improving battery life. Make sure you read up on how to get clockwork and make a nandroid backup or learn how to make a backup some other way and find out which apps are safe to remove also. That should be a good start!
Not sure if you have your social networking widgets, or any widgets for that matter. But set your refresh times for everything to atleast 3 hours, that and get rid of wigets you don't need. you can do this by going to settings -> accounts and sync. That and make sure you are using auto brightness (even though with the amoled screen it probably wont make that much of a difference.) Also, don't know about this phone but on my droid1 when i had wifi turned on and a decent signal i got better battery life then having data on, but that might just be me.
BE happy you can atleast get 10 full hours of use. I heard droid X users only get like 7 and have to recharge.
Juice defender is also pretty great.
The best way to make the battery last though is not use the phone. You'll actually get several days in standby mode on airplane mode. It's great!
my biggest battery saver was turning the screen brightness all the way down
Why worry with silly software fixes when you can just get a spar battery with a spate battery charger? We sell them at our corporate stores for 39.99 or 29.99 if you have am employee discount loaded into or system. I have 3 batteries charged at any given time and never have to worry about charging

Just wanted to ask you guys, how your finding the battery life on this, i've have windows phone 7 on my htc hd2 for 3-4 days now. I barely get a days worth of charge out of it, without using the phone at all maybe 2-8 text messages a day.... 3g, mobile data, bluetooth and wifi all turned off until i actually need it.
Also am finding that the phone wont fully charge but only around about 75% then stops charging, anyone experiencing similar?
Was getting 4 days of battery life with windows 6.5, not complaining i understand its a different OS, just asking how other peoples battery has compared.
I doubt you can get 4 days battery life with whatever OS on HD2!
BTW, try out a solution from another thread of t1h5ta3, it may help:

so, how to wipe the battery stats?
time to get down and dirty and learn to navigate thru the android OS.
download and set up the android SDK
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
heres a newbie guide to adb in the nexus forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619153
for those less computer literate, you can use droid explorer to do alot of the stuff thru a GUI. it also will set up adb for you.
http://de.codeplex.com/
the code that you type in to remove the battery stats is
Code:
rm data/system/batterystats.bin
now to properly condition the battery.
turn off the phone, plug it in, preferably overnight.
boot the phone up while still pluged in.
delete the batterystats.bin file ether thru adb or terminal
drain the battery fully, untill it powers down. wait a min or two and reboot it to completely drain it.
congrats... your phone now knows corect voltage values for 100% and dead.
Remember: Flashing a new Android build erases the battery stats, and automaticly rebuilds them based on voltages it see's .
ie: you need to recondition after each flash to get max battery life.
i use the "battery life" widget by curvefish to show me temp, voltage etc.

thanks have tried that previously when i used to use android and it worked quite well, this seems to be a windows phone 7 issue not general though .
I achieved the 4 days battery with the most basic enegry rom, no sense UI, turned off 3g, data connection, bluetooth, wifi... made sure it apps are closed when not used and ever setting turned off when not used
I am using the latest official updates in X10i,
Earlier the battery use to last 2-5 days in normal to heavy usage, calls, text, music social networking, etc.
Over a month i am experiencing drastically battery drain, every 10 -12 minute the battery level is reduced by 1%. resulting total drain of battery in less then 18 -20 hours, even in a condition where i haven't made or received a single call or text message.
I have almost tried out all various possible remedy mention in this forum & searched by Google with no improvement
As far as i remember it started after Multi touch update, Play now server always refuse to connect & some Sony Ericssion application throwing errors.
is it a corrupted OS issue ?
OR
Should i take it to service Center suspecting a battery problem ? i still have 45 days of warranty left.
Please advice.
I would most definitely suggest going through warranty, Its free and they will likely replace the whole device if you want. or just ask for a new battery. Unless you want to try rooting, installing busybox, then installing FreeXperiaRecovery and wiping battery stats, then charging the device to full and wiping battery stats again. Has worked for many people, guides to do this are available on this forum.

use battery optimizer from support tool / root ur phone and calibrate battery using xrecovery like above said / root ur phone / remove junk app u dont use (this can be done after rooting ur phone) / use task manager and use its autokiller function to kill apps u dont use / or try some 3rd party apps like juice defender kind of app...
i just use task manager and m excessive user of phone it works like 20-24 hours with 25% left at last..
Have the same problem, tried everything from antivirus to taskkillers and even full factory defaulths
I think i'm going i take it to the service Center
1) Avoid task killers they are pointless Android deals with managing and unloading tasks itself
2) Suggest root and get rid of any unwanted stock apps (moxier is a big pita when it comes to battery drain... suggest if you don't use it then loose it!)
3) if you don't mind a little more bulk to your phone then suggest buying a cameron sino or other extended battery it will triple the lifespan of your battery but add a bit more bulk to the handset .. for me bulk is tolerable with a 2600mah battery giving me easily over 40 hrs of battery life with heavy usage too
had been facing the same problem for 1 week
tried what the guys suggested in dev forums, nothing helped
so i decided to back up my data and do a REPAIR through pc companion
and problem seems to be gone
no fast battery drain so far
remember to backup your data if you r planning to use this method
coz it will wipe everything, and reinstall the firmware

i dont know how to react at this point of time.....
DUDE its not any application its just settings, i admit it was hidden.
and whatever settings it has for low power consumption i already have those settings except the screen brightness one.
i think the battery is near end of life, or may the phone itself.
Irrespective of current charge left in battery, within 30min of connecting to charger the charge will jump to 80- 85% and then it will revert/ come back to 50 - 65% withing next 2 hours (step by step 80.. 79..78 and not like sudden jump from 80 to 60 or whatever). It will stay between 80 -82% for another 4-5hours then depends on its mood it may go further to 100% may be in next 1hr or may be in next 6hr

this is the "exact" figure after 2 weeks of observation.
when im not using the phone its is on charge, this device has changed the meaning of communication device.
I have taken it to SE service center, they pretending that they did some kind of servicing, they asked to use the phone for a week & report back to them about if problem exists. but it behaving the same
now switched primary number to my 3yr old X1i, always connect to 3g (wi-fi when in home) gives attest 2 clear days of backup after decent use (say over 4hrs/day of music, 2hr/day call)
at this time i have uninstalled every piece of apps installed from market, except default Digital Clock no other widget running. I will observer for some days then take it to service center.
Seriously thinking to get rid of this crap now and go for Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I am regretting, i should have gone for Motorola milestone/ Dell streak that time.
