JB Paranandroid Questions for Newbie like me - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Guys Post your Questions here for xylo for his Jellybean rom
btw thankyou so much Xylo for bringing us such a GREAT ROM
my question to Xylo,
my BT headset (Philips sbh9000) doesnt working at all although it connects with my phone but the audio is still playing at my phones speaker.. sad part how could i fix this one ? thanks

I think there's no need for an extra question-thread. Just ask directly in the rom-thread and see if there're other ppl with the same problem. Maybe Xylo will have a look over it then if he has some spare time.
(BTT: Ever used another music player?)

Well, XDA rules are not to post questions unless you reach a 10 post threshold, so there's not much he can do.

PA JB alpha 2 says that video playback works partially but it does not work at all for me.

yeah i was able to ask xylo for this matter :victory:

To OP (re:BT): I maintain hd2s for myself and an associate and swear by xylograph's great builds since tosti 1.
Although I haven't pushed the jb version on the units yet and have kept 1.5b ics, I thought it may be useful to recommend a great app I found to play music (and all media) through my bt headset called btmono.* After I did much reading and demoed a dozen or so apps, it solved the same issue you describe on our ics builds of pa. Hope it helps, keep fighting.

Cyanogen on our Gen8?

I want to start the ball rolling!
Hey,
So now we have a cracked bootloader, so why we aren't port cyanogen to our tabs?
The Nook have Cyanogen, and its architecture is pretty the same as gen8
the only difference i know is that our toucscreens are connected by an USB Controller..
but the cyanogen source is open! so a dev can change it and get it to us
I'm not a developer, but why developers aren't port cyanogen mod
i just don't understand it.
We'll see Gingerbread (2.3.3) on our Tablets
Maybe Sauron could think about Gingerbread/Cyanogen in a Future release of Urukdroid?..
I hope we get, finally , a working port at our tabs ( Luisivan`s HC Port just doesn't worked because the problem with the touchscreen )

Well, firstly the bootloader hack was only posted 3 days ago. I am no developer either, but I would imagine it takes longer than that to port anything.
Secondly, the developers here on XDA are all people with real lives, doing this stuff in their spare time for their (and our) benefit. They don't get paid for it, and we have no right to expect/demand anything from them.
Thirdly, changing 1 byte in the stock recovery is a far cry from creating a custom recovery, which again takes time, energy and knowledge.
Don't misunderstand, I'm not flaming you here, just saying that a degree of patience might be come in handy right now. These things will come when the devs have the time to look into it.
Until then, just enjoy the huge benefits their hard work has already given us compared to stock.
sorry...
I don't want to insult any devs.., you did a great job
when i did this ↑↑↑↑↑ i am very sorry.
Yeah fisha i know what you mean, but i get angry when i think of the fact, that every damn android device gets an rom/hack/update. Even the oldest android device in the world has an honeycomb rom!
and we - owners of ones of the best android devices - stay at dark!
(okey we have a little bit of light and i thank sauron/artadat/silentrazor so much for that )
This upset me extremly! This is the only problem i had with Archos Products!
I was so happy, when i was heard that Archos Gen8 has an own Xda Forum in January
(Archosfans Forum is horror)
I just want to know that you guys :
Xda developers are the best android developers in the world
But we have to do something about the archos problem...
I do understand, the problem is just that the Archos isn't a very popular device. More people have the Nook etc, so more devs involved. There is some useful stuff on Archosfans, but much less in the way of development, that's true.
To be honest, when I bought my 101 in December, I thought I'd be waiting much longer to get to this stage....it will happen, just give it time. Or, do what I'm doing and start reading up on Android development, get your feet wet with some basic stuff, and who knows, you might be the one that brings us the next big thing!
Yeah i'm lucky about this too
I want it but i'm german i think you've already noticed that^^
And there're dont good german android development stuff
you're american?
I think that a future hypothetic Cyanogen port to archos will leave us without the GREAT archos video player and all the codec stuff they have on CLOSED development... so, we gotta wait and see the performance of our tablet with a "generic" set of codecs, for example...
Anyway... I'm very excited for the latest news of the recovery crack and happy to know that finally we are in position to have a CM port for archos ... with CW Recovery and all the stuff most android devices already have...
Yes,I am also deep wish and appreciated that Devepoler in ARCHOS Gen8 XDA forum could update more custom ROMs in the near future which will make the ARCHOS GEN8 more popular than before.
For example:There are many Dev. updated the custom ROMs of Huawei IDEOS u8150 in XDA forum(refer to : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970832 ) and users are very happy to upgrade and enjoy the updated custom ROMs everyday!!
I don't know many things about rom cooking, but if someone can teach me how to do i would be happy to do a custom rom for our Archos

Honestly, I have started using VitalPlayer. It plays AC3 and has a better sync between audio and video when using an OC kernel. So if we have to move to another Mod which loses us the stock player, its not that great a loss.

ICS Nightlys

Hi All
Seems to be a bit backward to not be able to post in the development section, but rules are rules I suppose.
I bought a Xoom a couple of months ago and put on Moray on a UK wifi Xoom. Very impressed and jumped onto ICS with the initial ICS release then played about with nightlys up to version twelve today.
OTG still not working for me, it crashes USB watcher OTG as well.
Music app does not get mentioned, but its terrible. Only small icons and no proper options ?
Camera and Mic were not tried as they are obviosly broken due to missing binaries.
It also seems backward to have widgets only on the apps page.
Battery options made the battery read zero, then made it disappear from the tray as well.
Browser does seem slicker, but back to Moray and its not a huge difference to be fair.
Have issues with various Apps. This makes sense as they still need to get up to speed with ICS. But it does concern me when people say its the best thing ever, when nothing can work as advertised. HW videos are hit and miss. I am also sure I read a while back that ICS would be all singing, why do I need a Ext mount app to write to an external card, same as OTG ? I thought that this would be part of the main build ?
So from my own personal experience, its a change, but until you have a full package with working apps, hardware, then I think people need to calm down with their plaudits for ICS.
I think I will leave the nightlys for a while, but it was great to try, and thanks for the guys putting the effort in making/updating these things.
I'm going to say this with as much respect as I can:
You have zero idea what the development section is about with statements like that.
Stick to stock software if you want a device that works as intended.
Development and custom roms always have caveats and pitfalls.
Thanks for stopping by!
Regarding not being able to post in dev section - it's for development only not questions and a lot of new users start new threads and ask a lot of questions! It makes sense the way it s.
You have to remember that these are alpha builds which are not supposed to be complete or fully working. A lot of devs wouldn't even put these out at this stage because of instability issues. But I am SOOO glad that the EOS team have decided to share these awesome ICS build with us because it may take weeks or even months to get to a full build release or an official Moto release. I know you aren't trying to bash the devs but I have to disagree with your opinions. I love ICS so far. It's fast, fluid and looks great.
Agreed with the widget option. Think the HC way was better but it's a minor issue compared to the speed improvements.
In essence though, I think if the full product is what you want you should stay away from alpha or even beta builds. Stick with full or official releases. Most people who test these roms understand this.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
aside from the camera and the mic i have had zero problems with anything i do on the xoom on a regular basis.
if it's an alpha build, it's a hell of an alpha build.
the only thing was it took me a bit to get all the gapps working and to the most current versions
Hi
Well my point was I don't have to be a Dev to know when things are not working. OTG is not working, and this is not a statement saying it has to, but merely a way of reporting it.
Nobody has mentioned the battery dissapears if you change the settings.
People seemed to be obsessed with Google Maps working, but since this is a great media player the bugs seem to be getting left out of the threads.
Now I know there is a lot missing, but why no OTG support built in ? Is this just a Motorola thing ?
I think there has to be a devils advocate here, everyone saying its fast is great, but if you are just using this as a browser, then its not a great indication about how good ICS is.
And to the chap who said I had no idea about Dev things, you are 100 % correct. But this is not aimed at anyone doing the nightlys, this is an ICS comparison. I am sure if Motorola release a version of ICS! Then it would get mentioned, how there are also some annoying new things not hardware or nightly release related. As I said the Music player is abysmal, the widgets is hidden away. The apps selector looks smaller, and some other little things.
So all I am trying to say is yes it seems faster, but since its only partly there, and we shrug when things don't work correctly, does not mean that is is the best thing ever. When we have a full version and all the binaries are working, then we will see the real speed ?

At this point the ICS builds are all straight from source so not a moto thing but see above.

That's all well and good but if that's the way you think then stay away from alpha and beta builds. If you are only interested in the full working product wait for official release.

Worst thread ever.
Alpha build!
Thanks for replying.
I don't know what defines a working OTG, but with Moray I used USB Mount watcher and I mounted a 1tb HD no problem. I thought I would not need an app, but no joy. This time when I tried the App it says it was built in. But it hangs at any attempt to identify the HD. Another mount app sees the HD, but can't mount it.
The battery thing I just noticed in the bug tracker, but no one mentioned it in the thread.
No one mentions the poor ICS music player or widgets.
I just see people obsessed with calendar and Google maps ?
And to all saying Alpha Build....considering Motorola never added OTG support to HC, but the custom roms did. My point is who is to say they will add it to ICS. I thought it was supposed to be standard. If people have to Root their device to get OTG and towrite to External SD. We have not come that far forward. And in fact the threads I readprevious to buying a Xoom had people waiting months for updates, are people really expecting a Motorola Ics within the next 6 months. This alpha build will not get any better until there are binaries, soapart from a few settings tweaks, it will stay Alpha for a long time I reckon.
I understand you saying stick to stock, but the built in things to ICS are poorer in relation to HC, I suppose no one mentions things in case they appear to be rude, but I think its better if people know the negatives as well, as it just seems to be people with Ice Cream tinted glasses at the moment

Again though, this is an alpha build so you cannot expect this to be fully working or all "built in" functions to be bug free.
If the current builds don't work for your daily needs that's fair enough, wait for a more complete build. But you cannot burn ICS on the strengths, or weaknesses, of an alpha build.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Be happy that we are the only tablet that has a ICS build to be bug free enough to be a daily driver for a good portion of users.
(Wifi, GPU acceleration, netflix work perfectly, browser is very much improved)
I can't post in the development section either.
But a thread like this is just the place to boost my post count.

Honestly, all I can really say to this... one step at a time, one day at a time.
You, as well as others, must understand and respect the fact that the developers here are putting in their own free time and effort to bring us these ROMs and extras, at absolutely no cost to you, the user.
Trying to tear apart tons code that has already been written to troubleshoot, fix problems, and test is hugely tedious and very time consuming.
Right now, I suggest not trying to put the cart before the horse. Simple things like asethetics, minor functionality (I.e. OTG, etc.) that is not crucial to the operation of the device is going to have to wait.
Important parts, like 3G/4G radio functionality, Google apps, video playback - the essentials come first.
Truthfully, I would not waste my time reporting the smaller issues, we know that they are there. When the developers get the foundation built and stable enough to work with, THEN will they ask for help with bug reporting and suggestions and such. No need to overwhelm the developers at this stage of the game.
Just my 2 cents.

[POLL] What kind of ROMs do you all prefer?

This is a poll thread where you can freely state your facts and opinions on your favorite type of ROM (Sammy-based ROM, MIUI or CM)
This is also a thread for the people who want to know what kinds of ROMs are being used worldwide.
IF you want, you can even comment down below and say why you like them
I use MIUI myself, but I did come from a Sammy-based ROM and even tried CM for a few weeks.
Voice your opinions, and let us know why!
**Sammy-based ROM = stock as well

This thread is NOT a question, just a poll. I don't want to post a favorite ROM post because new ROMs get released by the day and its hard to keep up ^_^
I haven't tried MIUI yet, so I won't vote. But I've been playing with the stable version of Cyanogen Mod for a week now and like it. It's heads and shoulders better than the stock ROM.
CM-based ROMS are nice, but video hardware decoding support is spotty. I use my phone to play 1080p/720p videos quite often, which are often unwatchable using software decoders. So I have no choice but to stick with Samsung-based ROMs for now...

I never tried MIUI because it looks to me like a clone of iPhone, when I want iPhone I buy iPhone...
I used CM7 because of its configuration options and theme chooser, hope CM9 will get them too...
I've tried all of them.
I prefer Samsung based ROMs at this time. They just seem to be the smoothest, most reliable ROMs which is not a surprise really. I did go through a phase where almost everything was stock but I've gone back to Go Launcher and Go SMS as I found the Samsung launcher too limiting (even though it is smooth, though Go Launcher isn't far behind) and the same can be said for the Sammy SMS app, also I find it a little slower than Go SMS in terms of responsiveness.
Cyanogen ROMs I feel do not run as fluidly as Samsung ROMs, and generally contain more bugs. As another poster said, they lack some of the codec support of the Samsung ROMs. Also, and I realise you can change this with themes etc, but the AOSP Android is a bit bland, at least in pre-ICS form. And CM9 simply isn't ready yet as a daily driver IMO. I look forward to revisiting CM9 when it is more polished.
MIUI ROMs I really like in terms of features. Everything you need is there out of the box, however, I find them resource hogs, and go a step further again than Cyanogen in not running as fluidly. You can see this when jumping from screen to screen or navigating menus, it feels like I am running an old Nexus One again in terms of speed. It just isn't fluid. This was a while ago so maybe things have changed. If they sorted these issues out, it could be the most fantastic ROM.
So Samsung ROM for me at the moment.

true Sir i did not see the poll you already had above as i was on the phone. but anyhow android development is not just sammy based roms you have MIUI in there plus CM7 like builds and ICS but personally for me..I like so far yes you got it right Sammy based roms....But as soon source code gets released and Siyah is out for CM9 and they get it more stable i am making the leap straight away....
Cheers...Still find this pointless thread but anywhoo
I also prefer stock ROM's.
Not to ditch efforts of all custom ROM makers, but two reasons my stock preference. I really don't trust enough to 3rd party applications much. That's even true for my desktop computer.
Second of all, I'm a bit lazy to deal with any problems, bugs or other stuff that may occur and obviously more chance of bricking phone with 3rd parties.
Third reason unlike most, I really like TouchWiz and additions that Samsung did over standard Android. I have two other Android based devices, one of them is default, other is HTC. I know they lack a lot of free utilities and touch & feel, (and no Sense does not cut it)

Does MX video player rely on samsung codecs? because I use it with my stock rom and the latest versions play almost everything in Hw decoders.
Older versions used to play some video files in sw decoders , but now everything is hardware accelerated and I even use it instead of the default player.
So my understanding is that if an update made the app support more video formats in Hw decoding mode ,then it should be indpendent of the rom we're using ,right?
Anorexic stock for me. Never liked MIUI, and appreciate the stability/100% functionality of stock over CM every time.
Used the ROM kitchen on my SGS1, got used to having no bloat, and haven't looked back since.
The ROM in my sig ticks all my boxes.
I like Samsung Roms firstly for the Email app for my Company's exchange account. Also for the Enchansed camera app, for the BEST stability and Siyah Kernel for Speed and Battery life!

Bought Tab 2 - Where to start

Hi guys,
Havent been on here for a long long while. Just bought a tab 2 as i was frustrated with the ipad. I have no idea where to start though with customsations etc.
Will need to root it i know, but can someone recommend a clean and smooth rom? dont want to flash it too much. Just general use really, transfer docs, browsing etc would ideally like something with flash still capable, but speed and smoothness is the most important thing for me.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Other than a problem introduced by myself, I haven't had any problems with the AOSP JB builds.
go to the android development forum, read up the stickies first
you have 7 inch or 10.1 ?
root
flash may not be available on jb
AOKP build 4 , much more control over the ROM than say CM9/10. You choose what you want and how you want it. AOKP is more suited to the tab IMO as CyanogenMod has to cater for much more devices. Constant builds and updates. Id say AOKP is for advanced users
If you like to twiddle with your devices thats the ROM for you.If you dont , then go for CM10.
If your not that bothered go for AOSP Loads of ROMs to choose from , no way of saying the "best" as it dosent exist. Its a personal choice and to be honest they are all pretty much the samething, just some slighty more customisable than others.
If you want a "Stock" experience go for anything that "RomsWell" builds as its generally stable and all the bloat/crap has been removed.
Search the forums for your specific device and check out the official threads for each ROM. If you don't know what to do ASK in the threads and people will help you out no problems as we are all mostly friendly and helpful to each other.
First thing you should be thinking about is do you want "root" access ( full control over the ROM) ? Search for your device and make sure you understand what's to be done and you have to correct tools to do it. Read it again, you be surprised how many people mess it up and then make posts for help lol.
Once you are more confident with Android , try all the ROMs out , wont cost you a penny and you can see for yourself then but say good bye to your warranty as it will be void as soon as you mess with your tab. If you read up on things you wont have any problems at all.
Good luck and have fun.
Not my thread but this is a good post above. Im a new user just reading and learning and this sort of post helps me alot.
Thank you
We all start somewhere and its what the forums for , So I'm glad to help.
Thanks :highfive:
No need to root, I've rooted the crap out of my phones, but have never felt the need to do the same with my tab2. And It's perfectly fine.

I agree with the above commenter.
Usually I root all of my devices, but with the Tab2 I haven't felt the need to.
To be honest I have quite a few of the different Home Replacement Apps and haven't even installed one of them on it.
Runs great out of the box! Just download a few apps to get you started!
One thing I did have to do though is a full hard reset after a few days of owning it, as it was buggy and slow, but ever since I did that, it has been perfect!
I can't wait to see the progress that the official JB release brings!
The only reason i root mine is because of pdroid, feels naked without it

What Custom ROM would you suggest for my needs?

So there's a myriad of ROMs out there for the SM-G900F. So far I've tried only CM13, and while I love the looks and feels of it I feel it isn't stable enough. I want a ROM that is small/clean, stable and fast with as few apps as possible (just enough for it to run properly). I don't want to flash every single ROM available (as I'm really bad at this and might destroy my phone in the process) just to test them out.
So I am asking on here, do you know of any ROM that is minimalistic, clean, fast and stable that would suit my needs? First and foremost I want my phone to work as a phone, but I want most features to work properly. Preferably recently updated too Fast and stable being priorities.
I am thankful for any advice I can get. Currently running my stock rom, but it's freaking 3.8gb big... O_O
Also; I am sorry if this is against the Forum Rules. I skimmed through them before posting and it does not seem to be a conflicting question and the search function will not answer my question as all threads with similar questions are personalized and outdated.
XtreStoLite although it is a bit old, it's still great. (All GS5 apps flawless and lite )
CM12 AOSP, lite (near stock but high customization )
Blisspop Have not tried it but heard it was great.
Galaxy Project, I am going to be flashing to this soon.
These are just a few off the top of my head, as always there are amazing people and rom makers on this form,
so just look around.
Try new kernels to get different functions (double tap to wake) or just for better battery (handle wakelocks...etc better) or faster (overclock gpu and cpu)
I'm also looking for some info on this because the Samsung Galaxy S 5 forums are a complete mess and very difficult to find info relating to ALL aspects of flashing, including rooting and recoveries! It never used to be like this.
So far I have tried these two roms and I'm now tired of the issues, lack of updates and fixes:
- Galaxy Project
- PhoenixROM
Both of the above are nice but the galaxy project has a known bug where you can't send SMS to legitimate international phone numbers such as +61xxxxxx using the default messaging app. So this was a waste of time for me
Phoenix ROM I've found that facebook integration with the phone has restricted contacts sync to the phone. I think this FB sync issue is due to the custom rom but repeated posts asking for comments / help has got nowhere.
Both of the above ROMs are laggy and slow down. There's no comment on this either. Pheonix ROM also doesn't continue playing music where it left off like the stock rom did. To explain further, I have the phone bluetooth with the car. I play music through the car from the phone. I stop the car / exit eg going to a shop. When I get back in the car, the music starts from the beginning of the 2 hour mp3. Pain in the bum. Phones shouldn't be a pain in the bum.
I don't want a ROM where I have to spend weeks customising it. This is boring.
I was going to check out Shohat ROM but reading the comments there's a bug with bluetooth audio streaming.
I'm too looking for a minimalistic (no bloatware!), clean, fast and stable ROM. Bonus would be extra enhancements to fix current problems. Not an easy task.
Just the fact that there's no response to my previous post shows the forums for the s5 is dead. Time to buy a new phone i think.
Shame really since htc development continued well after the phones were outdated.

Well this is a reply.... The S5 is still a great phone tho, but its your wallet.
And yea, some people make those question threads, but never reply unless they need help, or they screwed something up.
Either way, this is still a supported phone by many developers and staff. Enjoy your life.
As for a recommended ROM try Blisspop, if you want stock TW you could always go back to TGP.

Thanks for your help. The frustration is the lack of updates to ROMs when there's bugs. Lack of information. And difficulty in finding ROMs suitable.
I'll look up Blisspop, thanks.
Don't know what TW or TGP means. I'll google it.

TW == TouchWiz
TGP == The galaxy project.
Of course there are many Roms that I have not mentioned, also if you really want barebones android try cm 12, it's the closest to stock (AOSP) AFAIK. Just browse the forms.

Ah ok thanks. TGP is too buggy and laggy for me, similar to PhoenixROM. I do prefer touchwhiz though.
Currently using OmegaROM. It's fast and smooth. little customisations so thats good. I thought NFC was not working, but it turns out bluetooth being on and connected to my smartwatch was causing NFC not to work.
Facebook contacts sync still not working in this ROM though. Contacts sync works with Stock Samsung roms, but no others apparently. . Facebook has blocked contacts sync, not sure why.
