If its your still with the official ROM, I assume you didn't even create an ext partition yet.
Therefore, at this point you need the "Nand backup" option.
Assuming, you want to install a custom ROM with app2sd support (most custom ROMs), you will need to:
- backup the entire contents of your SD card to the computer (all data on card is lost in the next step!)
- repartition it through recovery, say to: 0 swap (unused), 512M ext2 (not ext3/4), and the rest for fat32.
- restore all files you backed up.
After you have made an ext partition and install a custom ROM, use "Nand + ext backup" to back it up.
Finally, restoring is always using the "Nand restore" option, regardless of which type of backup you made.
thanks a lot...

[Q] Froyo App2sd method: how to backup or wipe?

Hi all,
i wrote here cause i think it's not a general question.
I use CM 6.1 as my daily rom and I erased my EXT partition in favor of the original froyo app2sd method.
Now I have a problem. The recovery ( amon 1.7 ) can backup the ext partition. How can i backup the app2sd folder created by froyo on the FAT partition of the sd? And what's happen if I change the rom without removing the android_secure folder and its data?
I want to try the new GB roms but i want a working Froyo backup with all my apps...
How can i do?
Thanks!
No one can help me?

[Titanium Backup] Set up Backup Properly

Hi there !
Im currently Running Kyrillo's Rom 7.0 and using a 2GB SC CARD.
Since i've partitioned it to use the A2SD+ function avaible for android, and also created a SWAP partition, how do i backup my apps ?
Seems like i have to choose which partition to backup and where to backup or w.e
How do i do that in case i need to Wipe my data again to flash another rom ?
Thanks in advance !
You need a fat32 partition on your sdcard to save your backups. Have you left some space on there or did you use it all up with swap and a2sd ?

[Q] Custom rom?

every time civato update his rom a have to do all this procedure : -wipe all , factory reset , format and flexrom and if I update from FLEXREAPER R14 to FLEXREAPER RF1 i going to lose all my data??? (sorry for my bad english)
Use a backup program for your apps and backup to external sd card, backup downloaded data to external sd card.
Keeps all your data safe and intact.....easy peasy.

I use titanium backup
Why aren't you doing a Nandroid backup? That's by far the most convenient way to restore user data including all setup and homescreen settings. This is also the method Civato is recommending.
Such a nandroid backup is a backup performed with your recovery. Just do first a full backup, then do a full wipe and flash the ROM. After doing the start-up installations (wifi, google account), you are booting again into recovery. Then you are doing an advanced restore selecting user data (/data) only to be restored (resoring system and others would replace the new ROM by the old one). Then you get back all your apps and settings.

Only if you use a kernel that has a cwm that can back up to sd-ext
From memory for stock rom whitexp kernel cwm can
Cm 11 kernel with cwm6 can
You will just have to try

Well you don't have to as long as you don't format sd-ext a nandroid backup wouldn't touch that partition unless the CWM is able to but it wouldn't get backed up or restored so if you changed roms and then restored your nandroid backup your sd-ext apps should still be there as long as that partition isn't formatted
But if you want to backup apps for if you change roms it's best to use titanium backup app

Nope they will already be there unless you have updated the app since making the backup
