I plan to get one because it's better than the Dell Streak in terms of being unlocked and it works as a phone (without hacking it like the Galaxy Tab). I will get this device on Best Buy this week Let's get our hack section here now!
Just got home with mine! A kinda interesting so far .

I can't wait to install CyanogenMod on this huge fish!
Quick question: I'm thinking about buying it but do you need to have 3G/sim card in order to use the market and download apps? Or can you just get the tablet and enable wifi right away and use the market?
You can just use wifi if you want. So does anyone know if cyan is working on a rom for this yet? Also, what is the best root method for it?

The S7 is a great tablet for the money. The only one I have found that is readily available with 3g, GPS and Bluetooth for $300.00. I have had mine for about a week and a half.
I love mine but I'm dying without android 2.2, any developers looking at these

I picked one of these up the other day, and loving it. I originally picked up the Maylong M-150, but what a turd (Returned at record pace). This thing is much better. I would love to see it's own section in XDA with developer support. Cyan would be awesome on here.
Word up on the cyanogenmod shebang. This tablet is much easier to find than the Viewsonic which got its own section. So huh?
I too would like a section for this tablet and a cyanogen rom would be grand.
I just grabbed this little tablet for my son and was shocked at how much they packed in this little baby for the price. I was planning on getting a View Sonic G tablet for myself but might just grab another one of these.
Also side note anyone know where I can get a spare battery and or car charger for this thing?
Actually I really would love to see an extended battery up to 4000 mAH for this sucker.
I would love a section for this, I have the Telstra T-Touch Tab, which is what Telstra have rebranded it to in Australia, I think their hardware is slightly different though I am not 100% on that, if it is different then maybe a sub-forum for the T-Touch would be in order
This tablet has a lot of potential for froyo cooking and such, I do hope we get a forum
I have my Droid Pro and I have to say it is BY FAR the best android device I have used (and I have used most of them).
We need to get the Dev community over to this forum and working to make this device even better.
If any senior members see this, let everyone know that Droid Pro needs some TLC.
AGREED! I came from the Incredible, which is really an amazing device. The Pro, however, suits all my needs professionally. And the keyboard is really kick-ass. Have you tried Swiftkey with this keyboard? it works better on the Pro than it ever did on the DInc.
I agree with both of you.
I came from the Eris>Incredible>X I love my PRO.

Port this phone to sprint and I'd leave my Evo in a heart beat. Love the qwerty and android mix. I don't think it can get much sweeter.

Popularity = Development, and I hate to say it, but this phone simply doesn't have the popularity factor. I am also one that believes this is the beast Android I've owned (out of 4 models) however a lot of the Hardcore Devs look at it as a BB wannabe. The Qwerty is awesome, and coming from a 3 year stint with Touchscreen only keyboards (minus the Droid 1, but I NEVER used its physical keyboard) I didn't realize how much I missed a good physical keyboard. Case in point, you would have never seen me ramble on this much in a reply sent from any other phone simply because I was tired of typing, however with this phone I could just go on and on, but I won't.
I really hope this phone has a huge holiday push so we can see some more Dev love, but I'm really not holding my breathe. I'm happy with the way it is and can live without all the custom Roms if I have to.

I hear you and I agree 100%. The keyboard is amazing. Have you tried Swiftkey with this keyboard? It makes me fly even faster. The only downside is that the microphone button won't bring up the speech-to-text feature as it does on the stock keyboard. But it's simple to switch between keyboards if you need that feature.
At least we've got root, thanks for Z4Root. Now if we could just get a custom recovery, then it would hopefully be fairly easy for a dev to port a custom ROM from the Droid X to the Pro. Hopefully...

Dont think we'll see it anytime soon. Most of the devs working on it are GSM users so they dont give a care about ud CDMA uers. Isnt at&t gsm anyway?
Anything in the USA is CDMA, and outside of the US is GSM.
Adding CDMA isn't something one of our developers could do. It would require canonical to partner with an in US cellular company i.e. Sprint, Att, Verizon, etc...
So just wait until they have a hardware vendor preparing to sell the real handset.
CDMA will come into the picture with time.

Not true, T-mobile and AT&T are both GSM.
And ofono supports cdma now, its a matter of getting it to recognize the device.

I am looking to upgrade my phone on Verizon. But want to make sure that the one I get will be easily able to be unlocked and run Ubuntu Touch.
So in short, though Ubuntu Touch may not be ported to it yet. What is the best bet for a MODERN phone, that is well made enough to last 2 to 3 years (there are still some Nokia N900s out there going strong, so don't tell me its not possible) to upgrade to that is the most hackable? I've considered the Sam G Note 2, because of the really large screen. But don't know how "Hackable" it is in comparison to other devices.
Not the Nexus, very capable phone but won't be able to fully use desktop mode with full power. I would prefer 4G, since Verizon has stated that they will drop all other radio support in the next 2 to 3 years and only use 4G for voice and data.
Thank you and God Bless you guys and the work you do here!!

I'm sorry I didn't state it fully. I am looking for the most HACKABLE device that way it will be the most likely device to LATER receive a port for Ubuntu Touch. Not that it currently has Ubuntu Touch.
I backed the Ubuntu Edge crowdfunding campaign and was willing to wait a almost a full year before receiving what I paid for. I would be more than willing to wait for a port for the same software but different device. And would donate to the person or persons that did the most work.
Pretty much has to be Quad Core of some kind, as much Ram as possible. And ability to use an SD card so storage space won't be an issue. And again, it HAS to be high quality enough to last atleast 2 to 3 year. My Moto Droid 2 has gone through 3 warranty replacements in the past 2 years. I refuse to deal with that level of incompetent hardware development. If an N900 can last almost 5 years and still go strong using various different Linux Operating systems with more capabilities than the original. Then Modern Android Manufacturers have no excuse.
Sorry for the rant, if you didn't catch that, I'm a little bit peeved at hardware companies lately.

I've been trying to do that, because I love most of what Ubuntu Touch has shown so far. But now the left half of the touch screen on my Droid 2 Global has now stopped working. The screen still works and displays things fine. But it won't recognize any touches. It has a slide out keyboard, which helps alot cause I can use the arrow keys to do most things and still type. And I use Button Savior since this has capacitive buttons along the bottom, the left 2 buttons (Menu and Home) also no longer work. Oh and the 3.5 mm Headphone jack hasn't worked in months. And I've only had this warranty replacement for about 1 year. I would like to wait until official devices are released. But my current device is metaphorically falling to pieces.
Now you see why I am so upset with hardware manufacturers?

Oh, that's really a problem. If you don't need a high-end device asap I'd recommend you a really cheap Android device (you can keep it as a second fall-back phone). I have a Galaxy Gio as my second phone and I'd recommend that for you. It costs 40€ on ebay (I don't what it costs in your country) and has really good build quality and an active community for custom roms (you can install real stable and fast Android 4.2 on it). But it has no CDMA support.
I can't recommend you any current phone because nobody knows how they'll be working with Ubuntu Touch. Maybe the Samsung Galaxy S4...

ant news on this post??
I have an old EVO 4G and considering it's a free service, I'll give it a shot when I get home.
I got it to work a few hours ago.
I had to revert to stock and then update profile.
Works though, I am also not in the coverage area. But I can make calls.
Thanks for the tip frogman, I had to update profile as well but it worked. Another note for others: The MSL password freedompop gave me during its setup instructions did not work, but updating profile afterwards did.
Here's a speed test on 4G in the Houston area. Not too shabby for a 100% free service!!
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/653272762
I just flashed my old bedside Evo 4g (it's seriously been an alarm clock for months) back to Sprint from Cricket and activated it with FreedomPop. I bought it a couple years ago thinking it had a bad ESN and I could save a few bucks using it on Cricket. I would have never imaged that today I would be activating it for totally free service.
My alarm clock has just become highly capable off wifi again lol.
Crazy.
It's time to get back in to developing on this thing again.
Update: Seems to work nicely so far. The only things I'd note are that the VoIP is a tad slow. If I make a call in the same room with someone I notice about a 1 second delay between them actually talking and me hearing them on the phone. Also I really don't like the text messaging app. It cuts off part of the text message with the balloon graphic. Not sure if there's any way around that. It'd be nice if they'd hijack the default messaging app in the same way they did the phone app so it'd be truly seamless. But oh well, it is FREE.
Has anyone tried this with a non-stock ROM like Cyanogenmod?
i got it working, finally. i had to get my own msl unlock code.
Anyways, i just got the phone off of CL. I want to root it.
before i can root it, i need to unlock the bootloader, and it would factory reset the phone. Would the factory reset mess up the freedompop setup?
thanks

I just got my (retired) OG set up on this. Was pretty straightforward. Once the device is activated, you should be able to unlock/S-OFF/whatever. I'm about to check and see if it's possible to use a JellyBean ROM with it. It should be fine.
Works on CM10.1. And I can still use Google Voice for my other number through the native dialer, if I want. Very nice.

Any ROM should work, as long as you activate it on stock first. Once it's activated it should stay that way.
Keep in mind though that you lose WiMAX once you flash a non-Gingerbread ROM. Call quality did seem adequate over 3G, though (surprisingly).
Would someone mind sharing the search terms you used to find instructions on how to flash to Freedom pop? I've searched Google and even on Freedom pop's website. I'm willing to search, but just need a little help to get started.

EVO 3D doesn't work - I tried it. I think the EVO 4G might be the only phone they're supporting initially (since it's the one they offer). And you have to use the MEID DEC - HEX won't work.

I've owned Android since the good old days of the Google G1.
I don't think I've seen 1 version of CM that ran perfectly, no ROM was ever 'finished'.... so I'll be staying away from them from now on.
I'm actually probably NOT going to root my Note 3, can't see what I need to root it for tbh.

My first was the original galaxy i7500 but my cm experience was on the milestone 2 then g2x.
I really like cm when a device is no longer supported by their respective companies.
When I had the nexus 4, I used the latest cm 10.2 nightlies because to me the stock AOSP was lacking a few functions.
The note 3 has its own set of functions that I don't think we will ever see on CM.
However, would be very nice to have a dual booting system so I could flip flop between the two.

If the s4 has it, I am sure the note 3 900 will get it too.
One the biggest reasons for getting the 9005 was because I wanted to stick with a SOC that is easier for devs to work with.
Especially about a year from now when Sammy releases the note 5 and forgets about the note 3, we can at least update to the latest Android with CM

I kinda feel the same, I bought a few apps recently because it's not rooted. and these apps I'm happy to support because I use them on a daily baisis, like business calendar, poweramp, mx player etc. but I do find root useful for ntfs micro sdcard, especially when a file is bigger than 10GBs.
but what I really liked about a custom rom was editing minor things, having 8 icons along the screen horizontally. instead of what right now, 4? also all apps are HUGE dpi. I feel like when I load my mail. every mother fcker can read it from 5 metres away from me lol..
Ill Probably try it but wont stay with it. Lately on my s4 ive been preferring modded TW roms and will probably continue that with the N3

I don't want to even see Samsung's bloatware ever again.
I'm done with rooting and adding ROMs. I've rooted just about every phone I've owned, and they've never ran 100%. Something always had an issue and not running properly. Today's phone are almost perfect anyway. The Note 3 is bad ass just the way it is! If I do anything to it, it's maybe using Themer to give it a fresh look, but that's it?

I have been pretty impressed with the performance of the GN3 even after rooting. I am also using the s-pen functionality a lot more than i anticipated. I doubt there is any need to go the CM route.
A little off point, but someone mentioned they hadnt rooted yet. I had gone a week without rooting and was fine, but i had to root for tethering (havent installed an app yet though). So far, i have also included quite a bit of additional apps for the Pen Window - VERY handy.
I just need a ROM that will allow tethering.
