Hey all multiple times I have wanted to take screen shots and I was wondering does the nexus 4 come with a default screen capture or do I need to download one of the apps to do this. I know some androids are starting to come with this feature default finally such as the S3.
Also can anyone give me a reason as to why screen captures have not been implemented by Google. Legal issues with apple? No reason?
Thanks all
Press power and volume down together.

I have tried this many times and so far it has never worked. Maybe I am just challenged
Yep power and volume down and hold it for a few seconds together then it will take a screen shot

That button combo (pwr + vol-down) doesn't work for me while the desktop is showing, but it works with an app in the foreground. Even works in the INFO screen.
Thanks guy helped me plenty! Just didn't hold down the buttons down long enough
I can take a screenshot anywhere, just have to hold both buttons for a couple seconds. Even works on the lock screen!
Ya u gotta hold it til it takes the shot

Are you doing it simultaneously? Give it like a second or two before releasing

press the power button first and the the volume down button...and then wait for your INSTANT WIN!!
need to press them the same time. its a little tricky at the start but you'll get used to it.
or you can just get an app that will do it for you

no point in installing useless apps that consume memory when its in the OS natively. its not that difficult to press two buttons at the same time and getting it right. once you do it once or twice, you'd get the hang of it and all is good.
either that or flash a custom rom and u can add the screenshot button on your long press power button menu.

Yeah I'm pretty sure its not working for me either

It works for everyone. All you have to do is push them at the same time. Power + volume down. Hold for like three seconds. If it doesn't work hold for five seconds.

thanks guys, it is indeed tricky. especially doing it with my diztronic case.

It's very tricky. I said the same thing when I was doing it on my galaxy Nexus but got the hang of it.
Place your hand on the volume down and power button before pressing them and then hold them both at the same time until your phone makes a screen shot animation.
I will give Samsung this though the slide to screen shot is very intuitive on the touch wiz platform.

Oh so that's why. Since the new diztronics cover the buttons, it's probably not being pressed correctly.

Tell that to the people who had difficulties
It is tricky at the beginning but like I said over again and again, once you know how to do it. It's not tricky and is very easy to do. I understand depending what case they have on it may be trickier because the case covers the buttons that all of us overlooked
Screen shot working on Nexus 4 after trying this!!!!

Try first powering off your phone. I had a little issue and i could not get the shutting down menu after several attempts, the phone restarted it self and after it was up, I was able to take screenshots without any difficulties.

My nexus had the same problem... and yes, I know how to take screenshots...
But by doing this the problem was solved... thanx man!
It use to do this but no longer anymore. I think I changed a setting that disabled the capability.
Does anyone happen to know what it was. I think it use to take 20 shots. It is Not one of the Best Shot modes because I remember it was in auto mode.
Edit: Found the option in camera for Burst Shot. Delete Me please.

Actually if you just save a quickmemo without scribbling something you get a screenshot.
Above poster is right... Its power + vol down and very awkward.

ah duh! good tip!!
right, taught of that.
But i've needed to take screenshot of the notifications and pressing the quickmemo/home slide exit the notification
bummer
I took a screenshot using Quick Memo and it DID include the notification bar. Did I understand the issue correctly?
I used the Home-button-drag (to the right).
Hello fellow moders, I am wondering if anyone knows of a simpler way of taking a screen shot without having to swipe my Palm across the scree.
It would be nice if I could press the home button and power button to screen shot. Maybe screen shot in the power menu.
I appreciate any suggestions.
If you hold the power button and the physical home button at the same time for a couple seconds it will capture a screenshot

Worked thanks
Take spend out and hold the spen button while pressing on the screen.
Screen shot mentioned above with home button.
Palm swipe across the screen. Real easy.
My power menu has screen shot option. I'm using hyperdrive.

For some reason, the Palm swipe doesn't work on my phone. It didn't work with 4.3 and isn't working with 4.4 leak either. Any ideas?

Isn't THIS the Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting section? Anyway, I think I am just doing it wrong or something. I practiced a few more times. I just don't understand how to wipe the edge of my hand across the screen from left to right without it moving the screen. Hmmf!
