Guys, newest sandisk 64gb microSDXC will fit Defy?
http://www.sandisk.com/products/mobile1-memory-products/sandisk-ultra-microsdxc-card
It will fit in nicely becuse it is the same size as the microSDHC.
It doesnt work out of box ;you have to format it in the phone..then you' ll get 59 GB of free space.
No, i dont have it but i have read about it and it works in htc,samsung..
According to specs, memory is upgrade-able only to 32gb.
Will a 64gb card work?
I think you should take the risk and test it yourself
So does it work? That´s a very nice sd card
the defy supports 32gb sd official. 64 gb not supported. I think for any phone 16gb is stable for space and speed. how do they fill up 32gb?!

There are also reports that they are working on many older devices for those wondering. Some include the EVO 4G, original Galaxy S, and even the HTC Desire Z (aka T-Mobile G2). With both old and new, smartphones and tablets being able to take advantage of the 64GB SD cards this is a good sign many more will have the same fate. We can only assume manufacturers didn’t state SDXC support because none were out on the market at time of launch, or maybe there are other reasons yet unknown.
At first insert the device may say corrupt or error, just reformat your 64GB card inside the Android phone or tablet and you’re good to go. While many are currently working, this doesn’t mean they have full support. The chance of the cards failing, getting errors, and possibly losing all your stored data is still a possibility so use at your own risk for now. Hopefully we see more 64GB SDXC cards soon and at lower prices because $219 is a bit steep for me. — Thanks Murray!

SDXC cards use exfat file system. If defy doesnt support that then it probably wont work.
Ive seen reports of it being working on a lot of phones, so there's a chance it might work on defy, but the card needs to be formatted on pc first before using on phone and it wont work at full speed due to limitation on the old sdhc reader (sdxc reader is faster)
I'm asking to avoid risks ).
Why 64gb? Cause i have 32gb card and it have about 4gb left. Actually last few month i've forced to clean up card from time to time. Audiobooks, DVR, Navigation software, record lections on dictaphone... That stuff takes space but i've used not to worry about `if do i have avaliable space left` ). Also this card declares class 6, now i own Sandisk/32gb class 2, so it not just larger, it laso should be faster. Sometimes DVR+Navigation provides some lags, for example.
maybe the max is 32GB,class 10
you can buy but i thin you will see only 32gb space...
can defy uses class 10 sd card? i heard there is problem in taking picture with class 10 card...
read posts on XDA, yes it has a problem with 6 and 10 class
CM7 and miui can run fine class 10 cards now.

SDXC on Defy?
It really works on Defy. I own one for a month now. Cost 80€/106$. Absolutely no problems after format. 59GB free. About 6MB/s write, 16MB/s read speed. Have fun.
Greater than 32Gb?
Biggest I've used is a 32Gb class 10. No problems at all.
Android police posted a review. Looks good.

This is funny yet strange. Why you think an article on a website has more truth than a forum post of a member? Both are written by a single person. Both can be faked or real.
The guy on the website used a newer Tegra device so his article is irrelevant for Defy users. The SDXC in my Defy works flawlessly for weeks now with 20GB free space left.
Of course you can ignore this. I don't care. But if you need space buy the SDXC and have fun.

I wasn't doubting your experience with the card, I was just posting another source of info about it complete with benchmarks etc.
Glad you like the card.

I preordered the 16gb, and how much gbs are allotted to install apps? I have the galaxy s2 and my limit was about 2gb, and I ran out of room.. Will I have the same problem with Nexus 7?
The 16GB should allow around 14GB for you to mess around with. Somebody posted an exact number somewhere on here....
13.33GB

Questions go in the Q&A section
On Android 3.0 and above you no longer have seperate partitions for apps and data.
The Nexus 7 has 5.7 (8gb) or 13.3 (16GB) GB of space for apps and all other data.

might be cause it is a Pre-ICS phone.
I never understood why device manufacturers always take away some GB from the available storage. Why not dedicate storage separate from everything else for the system/OS and give us the full 16gb?

Hmm, I guess, it was gingerbread 2.3.6 and then they released Kies ICS, and I upgraded it but still restricts to 2gb.

assuming dark of the moon is actually on the flash storage and isn't streamed, deleting it if you don't want/like would give more maybe even 1gb......

If everything is on the same partition, then how does mounting USB storage work? Do you have any links regarding the partitioning?
If you had a Pre-ICS phone like the Galaxy S II then the partions would remain like they were before.
My post only applies to devices that shipped with ICS, and specifically nexus devices since i can't speak for any device i don't own.
@fox: from what i've read, Transformers is almost 2GB of data and is not downloaded already (at least on the I/O ones). The storage space i posted is confirmed actual space from the I/O Nexus 7 and 16GB Galaxy Nexus. That is total space, not free after system/sd data
@AZImmortal: The device uses MTP for use on Windows. Macs require some software (www.android.com/filetransfer)
This allows you to only see the /sdcard partition and the system is protected. Also has a lot of stupid issues as well but it's the best way to keep the system secure. Many people who have Galaxy Nexus devices use AirDroid or other similar apps to transfer data since MTP is very annoying.
Ah, thanks for the explanation. My devices have all shipped with Gingerbread or lower so far so I haven't been exposed to MTP.

no problem. it was a huge shock for those of us who bought Galaxy Nexus devices as well.
MTP does suck sometimes, but it really is the best way to deal with it. I do recommend checking out AirDroid. just amazing app and works over your wifi network so no USB cable needed. And transfers are a lot faster than USB/MTP
How much GB of storage does the 8 GB and 16 GB versions of the Nexus 7 actually have?
The 8 GB model has 5.74 GB on it
So the 16 gb version should have approx 13.74 gb available.
It should have 13.74, unless the unusable space is directly proportional to that of the 8gb. In this case it would have approximately 11.118 gb for the user.
any way to change your order from 8 GB to 16 GB?

I don't think you can. I read somewhere that Google won't let you cancel your pre-order. The only way is to refuse delivery.

I don't fully agree with this guess (no offence!). Let me have a go!
So, with an 8 gig model (this is 8*10^9 bytes not 8*2^30 bytes - it's how all hard drives are sold) we know this has a usable space of 5.74Gb. Now, just the raw drive will have 7.45Gb of space (this is the marketed 8 gig figure's actual size - 8*10^9/2^30). So 7.45-5.74 suggests 1.80Gb of space taken up by the filesystem and the operating system and whatever else is on there. So, the raw drive size of a 16 gig model is 14.9Gb using the above formula. Assuming that the overheads are constant (I've no idea if this is a valid assumption or not but I would imagine the size of the OS is) then my estimate is 14.9-1.80 = 13.1Gb. (All figures are correct to 3 significant figures.)
I'm half way through a maths masters (it's summer - I'm bored) so I have some confidence in using my calculator, but, I don't know if my understanding is correct! If when someone does get the 16 gig model I'd like to know the actual answer (I'm getting the 8). I hope someone can prove me wrong/right!

he's most likely basing it off of an existing device.
For Example, my 16GB Galaxy Nexus shows 13.33GB total space in the storage settings. But in various apps it reads as 13,648MB.
Anyway, exact storage for 16GB will be above 13GB.

I have always been confused by this. I have always felt like saying a device has 8, 16, or 32 GB of memory is false advertising since every time I get a device with that amount of memory, there is usually much less free space. I didn't realize that the amount of memory the OS takes up isn't factored into the equation, and the whole bit vs byte confuses me as well. Oh well, lol. Thats why I never became a computer engineer, I guess.

Actual Usable Storage
Hi Guys,
I put together a list of the actual usable internal storage of different phones so that we can compare and see which one has how much. This can be found on:

One thing is for sure, the usable storage space on the nexus is a hell of a lot better than the usable storage space on the M$ Surface lol

Looking to buy a Nexus 7 soon! I am deciding between 8gb and 16gb. If I watch a lot of video podcasts that currently occupy 4gb at one time is 16gb my option? Also I know if I root I can hook up devices via USB. How practical is this if I want this tablet to be the one I take everywhere with me?
Lastly, I have heard brief mentions of other 7" tablets coming soon/just came out that are better than the Nexus 7. All I found was gTab 7" 2 and all that had that rivaled Nexus 7 was for $250 you only get 8gb and a microSD. Is there some tablet that is better than the Nexus 7/even worth looking at that I'm missing?
Thanks.
Edit: Looks like I'm going with the 16gb for sure. The question that remains is whether any other tablets rival the Nexus 7 that are coming out soon that I missed in my research besides iPad mini and gTab 7" 2.

generally i say go for 16gb. you cant do much with just 8gb. even with the root trick to run usb on the go for storage, you still can only store apps on the internal storage. so if you have lots of games, you're gonna run out of space on 8gb.

definitely go with the 16gb one. that has 13gb user available memory.
after some cwm backups, and some games and apps. you'll left about 10GB for your personal stuff such as pics, vids and songs.
i did research for other tablets as well before buying this. this is indeed the best choice.
the tab2 7 doesn even come close. forget about it. unless you want to use a 7 inch as your main phone. if not the nexus 7 really outclass it.
I wanna know if it's possible to rip apart the Nexus 7 and upgrade the RAM from 1 GB to 2 Gigz? If it's even possible? I am not that hardware savvy. Was wondering if someone has done it or if it's even doable? I have seen threads detailing how to open the N7 and how to increase the SD memory (even one where an external SD slot was installed), but none where the RAM was upgraded. Any thoughts? Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find any related threads.
Not unless you can solder in miniature and not ruin any other components. If you want more RAM get a 2013 version
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.
Thanks for the reply. I do intend to buy the new one, but not just yet. Before that I wanted to play around with this one and see if what I stated was doable. If it worked, it would be a good exercise (for me), and if it doesn't well i was getting another one anyways. I'd hold off on the thought now though since the it seems a bit more involved.
