Hd2 wont propperly start anymore - HD2 General

I am using android NAND for a pretty long while now and it always worked great. Untill this 1 night i forgot to charge my phone and all battery is drained. So the next morning i turned my phone on with the charger in and things seemed to be ok and i went for coffee.
When i came back the screen was stuck on the startup, the black screen with "HTC" in the centre. So basically its starts up, MAGDLR does it thing and then this "black HTC" screen shows and gets stuck. Tried removing battery a couple of times and still the same.
What is the best solution for me to do now?

If losing your settings and data isn't a problem (I.e you keep a decent sync routine) then I'd do.....
Enter cwm , full backup, wipe cache and dalvik cache
Reboot,,, fixed?
No..
Into cwm, (you already backed up), wipe data factory reset,
Reboot, fixed?
Yes, see *1
No, start from beginning, full wipe, reinstall rom. Once its working, see *1.
*1 once you have the fresh unset up rom running, (and assuming you are using an ext partition) I'd go to cwm, do another full backup, and then try an advanced restore of just the SD ext partition, (then clear dalvik, since some variants of a2sd move dalvik to SD, and u don't want that restored)
If that's successfull, you will have restored all your installed apps.
If you don't have an ext partition, you could try restoring the data partition, but it'll likely restore the error too.

I did these steps as written but somehow it didnt work. Only on the first boot up it worked. So ive put another android rom on it and its working now.
Thanks for the help

Infinite Loop

Hey all, first off, sorry if this is the wrong forum. If it is could one of the mods please move it.
OK, here's my issue. I had CyanogenMods latest build, 3.4 I think and decided to try The Dudes cupcake 1.RC1. I forgot to do a wipe before installing TheDudesCupcake but when my phone came up it worked ALMOST fine. Had a crash here and there of something, not sure what, but the phone still worked fine. Today, I had an issue with a video (is the SD Card) not being viewable with "Video Player" so I decided to remove the card and pop it back (hoping this would somehow refresh the player). Didnt unmount it so I got the error about i may loose data without unmounting. (i'd done it before without a problem). Well this time around my card was corrupted so I ended up formatting with the phone. tried going into settings to view the size of the drive not since I didnt know if the whole card was wiped or only the FAT32 partition. Kept getting an error while trying to go into settings so I decided to reboot. After reboot I was able to get into settings and saw the whole card was wiped (back to full 8GB of empty space). Thought I would wipe right there from settings since I was getting an error or 2 after reboots and since I had gotten that error when trying to get into settings and then updating back into Dudes Cupcake. (thought the wipe would get rid of any issues of going between Cyanogen to Dudes Cupcake). Once I clicked on wipe and android reboots, it's trying to do something but just keeps rebooting. I've got Cyanogens restore image v1.2 on. So I see the G1 logo, then comes up
Build CyanogenMod v1.2 + JF
Formatting DATA ....
and at the Formatting DATA part it does the reboot and goes back to the G1 logo and comes back to formatting data and reboot.
I tried doing a HOME + POWER but it just goes back to formatting data. I tried doing a CAMERA + POWER but it goes back to formatting DATA.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks and sorry for the long post, I just wanted to give all my steps.

when it says formatting data then done, are you pressing and holding home and back or just pressing and releasing. when the phone is powering on and you hold the home and back keys it will do a hard reset just like a wipe(same thing) or since there is no data to lose any more, try pulling the battery, this will not do any harm as you are not flashing anything
since you have the cyanogen recovery image you should have gone into the console at recovery and typed
fix_permissions.sh or sh fix_permissions.sh
Thanks for the response tubaking. My problem was that it didnt say done. right when the "Formatting Data...." line came up, it reboots, without saying done. And I couldnt get into the Home+Power or the Camera + power screens. Neither one would go there, just back into "Formatting Data:..." screen. After reading half way through the Brick thread I saw someone mention pulling the SIM card out, didnt think that would help but it finally dropped me back into the recovery console. Might I ask why something as simple as removing the SIM drops the loop and takes you to recovery?
thanks.

Is phone gone bad or the whole file system corrupted?

Hi
I have no idea but there is something wrong with my phone.
About phone – HTC Hero, rooted, MCR 3.2, apps2SD working, 8GB sdcard, partitions – SWAP-0, ext3-512, rest fat32, recovery img - recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
I have nearly 80 apps installed, some Utilities, some system apps like uninstaller, Titanium etc and rest all games for kids.
Yesterday night phone battery was almost discharged so I put it on charge, forgot to remove it when fully charged, so removed it today morning when I woke up.
A friend called, though phone was on ringing mode it didn’t ring but just vibrated – surprised.
Just after that phone got lagging problem, whatever you do, there is a long delay, got irritated so switched off & back on the phone. It then went in the loop at start of the android screen where 2 pops up with sound, it just remained in the loop.
Couldnt get out of it, so removed the battery, tried again and it booted after long delay but it was as fresh as just installing the MCR 3.2, none of my installed applications were there. All my apps were missing.
So I thought to do Nandroid restore which I took couple of days ago with EXT data.
Booted in recover, wiped Ext-partition, Dalvic-cache, and the system data. Put it in USB mode, copied Radio ROM ver - 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 and Nandroid Restore files.
Then first I restored nandroid backup, booted the phone, out of surprise, few applications were missing which were there at the time of backup.
I installed radio rom and still the apps remained missing...
Again I went into recovering mode, wiped everything again, ext partition, dalvic-cache & system data, installed nandroid restore, booted the phone, and this time some different applications were missing which were there in previous try.
I assume nandroid should restore everything properly but then why the applications keeps missing everytime,
I have this problem since I tried Villain ROM just for trying it out.
What is the solution, I m just scared to reboot the phone if anytime required because it gives me a feeling that after reboot I will miss many applications.
This problem is very unusual, is phone gone bad or its OS or anything else???
Please help.
Thanks
u may need to format ur sd card and then do a nandroid restore. If not just redownload the apps your missing
I always format SDcard, then copy the nandroid backup to it but prob still exists.. and redownloading apps all the time is not going to work out because as soon as I reboot the phone, apps starts missing...
Did you remember to wipe ext partition? you didnt mention it
Yes m8 I did wipe everything, ext3 partition, even dalvic-cache & the system data as well before doing nandroid restore...

stuck @ N1 logo after Gapps install, wipe & reinstall no help

I went from 5.0.8 to 6rc2 but forgot to flash google apps again
So i rebooted to Amon and installed and it got stuck at the N1 screen.
Ive selected "clear storage" under bootloader and that didn't help
Now i cant install my nandroid and it tells me to do it via ADB
what am I doing wrong?
thanks for any help
This should be under Q&A.
Anyhow, did you rename your nandroid? If so, the filename can't have spaces. Clear storage means nothing to me.. you should wipe cache and dalvik-cache, flash the gapps, then reboot. See if that fixes it for you.
Havent renamed it ill try that if 6rc doesnt work. do i have to wipe cache and dalvik-cache if Ive done a full wipe?
If your nandroid isn't working it's probably because your battery is low. Plug your phone into your computer.
connected via recovery USB and checked the Nandroid
no spaces
Battery always has a full charge before I flash ( learned that from my g1 lol)
I was tired and let the battery drain over night and tried again just now.
now it boots to the N1 logo and then i get application setup wizard has stopped unexpectedly please try again
Ive wiped and re flashed multiple times and even downloaded the files again this time from mirror sites

I think I bricked my phone.

Okay I've never read such a weird explanation on any thread in this forum.
Btw, I recently flashed InDroid 4.3. Less than a week ago.
My phone was running perfectly, but my google account linked with my phone was not what I wanted it to be. So I added another account and my phone said that to delete my previous account I had to do a factory reset.
So I deleted my older backup that I had created using Titanium Backup (when I was using stock ROM) and I created a new backup.
So I held down the power button and tried to get into recovery. But my phone just got stuck at the "samsung i5801" screen. I let it be for 10-15 minutes but it won't go beyond that. So I re-inserted the battery, and tried to get into recovery again. Didn't work.
Then I tried to just start my phone in normal mode, but still it just got stuck at the i5801 screen. I removed the sim card, SD card and tried, still stuck at the same screen.
Then I tried to get into downloading mode, which (thank god) worked.
Now I know the logical thing to do is just to flash a new ROM but my questions are :
a- WTF happened?!??!?!?!
b- since I can't get into recovery or normal mode, how do I reset factory settings / clear cache? And if I don't do all that, will flashing be successful? and safe?
btw, I'd like to continue with InDroid until Kyrillos 6.0 is perfectly stable.
-That happens frequently with indroid.. main cause could be the filesystems..
-flash kyrillos v6 its pretty much stable..
-Once you flash a new rom you'll be able to boot into recovery..
-Remove sdcard while flashing once done insert sdcard and wipe data n cache from recovery..

My TPT is bootlooping and I can't wipe the Dalvik-Cache

The title says it: My TPT is bootlooping and when I try to wipe the cahce/Dalvik-cache in recovery, it just won't finish.
I'm running ICS (OTA3), but the same thing has happened to me before with Honeycomb.
I don't want to wipe data! Any ideas?
You qualify for a new motherboard if you want it.
But that would not preserve my data
My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that once you start boot looping you need to have made great backups prior to the issue because all you can do is send it in for repair. Hopefully you have such backups if you have root.
Not good news so I hope I'm wrong. Wishing you luck.
I pulled some of the data via adb and then did a factory reset (in recovery). Now it boots again.
I just hope it won't happen again. This was the second time already: Once it started bootlooping in Honeycomb and now ICS. It just came out of nowhere (it booted up fine many times before).
Excellent news. Didn't think you could pull anything with adb while bootlooping. Should have tried that straight away.
I still could enter the recovery mode. Strangely, wiping cahe/dalvik cache alone didn't work (it wouldn't wipe), but wiping everything (which also includes dalvik cache) worked...
I still lost some important data, but at least my tablet works again. I just hope it won't start bootlooping again... but I'll definitely make sure to have an automatic backup solution set up just in case.
Good show. At least you're not bootlooping. Too bad about the data.
