Hey all,
I noticed that I don't get gtalk messages delivered while the screen is off, I only get them delivered and notified once I unlock the phone. Anyone else have this issue and know of a fix? Happens on wifi and cellular

Sorry just a clarification, i do receive messages when the screen is off, but only if the screen recently went off. So like I'll get them for about 5 mins after screen off, and then I won't anymore

Is wifi set to go off when the screen is off? Do you have a data activated to take over when wifi is off?
I know it may sound silly, but it's all I can think of.

Yer I checked that. Wifi is set to stay on, data is always on. Emails and Facebook are still working fine. Just gtalk

Any Fixes on "Failed" when sending an SMS? (already searched and I tried master resets)
using the Samsung Vibrant's stock SMS app, I will often find the speech bubble when sending an SMS turning grey and instead of a timestamp it shows "Failed" and an Envelope with exclamation mark wind up in the notification bar.
I have to long press and click resend. However, sometimes it won't resend it just goes right back to "failed" over and over. I have also had all messages fail. this can be in full 3g signal, low edge signal, or in between so it wasn't no service. it's weird. its like it only tries once to send the text and if it doesn't go thru right away its shot.
I don't like Handcent/Chomp as they seem to act funny for me and I don't think the SMS issue happens any less.
It's happened to me a few times as well, usually i just restart the phone or give it a couple of min and retry it. Not sure what the cause is or how to fix it atm.

Used to get that a lot on my g1. Only seen a couple fail on my vibrant.

I am currently having this problem and its quite annoying
Got that all the time on my previous android devices such as myctouch 3g and the nexus one. I'm pleased that it doesn't happen very often on the vibrant to me. Best solution is to either wait a few minutes, or reboot.

When that happens I go into airplane mode then turn airplane mode back off and it lets me send messages again

I tried this and it still doesnt work
it happens to me randomly. it does failed to send on 3g, edge, full signal, low signal, various areas, it sucks.
also experienced this daily on my G1 and occasionally on the Vibrant.. annoying as **** and TMobile customer service couldn't do ****.
So today I sent out a picture message to my wife while my WiFi calling was enabled. (I don't have a good signal at my house so this is the only way I can do this from home without moving around looking for a signal) Every time I tried sending the message I got a "g" pop up on the status bar next to my wifi signal bar. I tried rebooting because it wouldn't send and it still didn't work. I then set it down and ignored it and it finally wend, but maybe about 10 minutes later.
The other issue I just has been happening the last couple of days is the app just shuts down when the screen is sleeping. I set my phone down and come back 20 minutes later and the icon is missing. I go into the app to restart it but is says it's on, but trying to connect and it won't connect until I reboot. Just now I had an error message stating I wasn't connected to the tmobile network and had to sign in (or something like that) I rebooted and everything connected back up.
Anyone else had this happen to??
The whole mms thing is not an issue. it sends mms using your data connection to prevent something but i cant remember what. Take a look at the wifi calling thread i know it was addressed already.

I think your WiFi calling shutdown when the screen went sleep because you may have WiFi set to sleep when the screen shuts off.

Rebooting is all fine and dandy, but then I need to have it reroot itself again. And then to overclock it I have to be at my computer.
After looking at the other thread as the first responder suggested it makes sense that the MMS get sent over data connections, so I guess if I need to send an MMS I need to have a good "cell" signal.
i am having the same problem.
from a fresh boot, wifi calling works. but once I shut the screen off, wifi calling is lost and it will not come back until I reboot again.
i am using CM6.1, and I don't know if this is a problem with CM or just the wifi calling app itself
I have this issue as well, wifi icon will go missing, when you opn the app it says that its on...from what ive been hearing, wifi calling doesnt really work that well anyway.

I hold down the #1 to activate voicemail and the second it connects it immediately hangs up and says goodbye. This happens 4 out of five times, the fifth it connects as normal.
Anyone know what the he'll is going on here?
Thanks!

Isn't the voicemail thing a network fault, not the phone?
I use a free service for my voicemail called HulloMail, get the app from the market and follow the instructions, you'll get the ability to have the voicemails emailed to you and pushed to your phone with their app as well as the old fashioned way to call up by holding #1

Dear All,
I have Nexus 4 device with stock rom and I'm facing the following issue:
When I'm not using the device for few mins and someone sends me notification in whatsapp I'm not getting it. Only when I wake up the device and open the app I'm getting the notification.
Did someone face this issue?
I'm not sure but I think this is some safe mode or something like.
Please help me with that.
Thanks,
Yotam
What kernel are you using

What will 4.2.2 do with regards to this issue?
Wifi is probably going to sleep. Go to advanced wifi settings and set it to remain always awake.
This happened to me, latest franco kernel version is somewhat fixing it!
I'm using the original kernrl, didn't change it yet?
did someone using Franco kernel and stock rom?
In the mean time I Chaged thr ROM to CM 10.1 , but I want to check it also with STOCK rom.
does someone knows which rom is the original one?
wifi sleeps when display is off, so push notifications are delayed, its a problem with 4.1.2, I currently haven't found a solution and its not my modem, wait for 4.2.2,
when streaming, display must be on to complete transfers

A work around, someone pointed out in another thread, is to set wifi deliberately to turn off when phone sleeps and leave mobile data on.. when you get a notification phone will wake and wifi will switch back on to receive notification.
can confim this works, i leave 2g only on.
Check your APN settings cos mine was doing the same thing till I changed the APN settings.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I was thinking that APN should be also an issue. in the mean time I switched to CM 10.1 and this issue dissapear
Is the problem only when you are using mobile data or is it wifi as well. Have you tried it with whatsapp plus.

It's seems that I've the same problem. When I just turn off the screen I've the notifications but when the phone sleeps more than few minutes I don't receive notifications.
I have franco r71, I see if this fix the problem as someone said before.
Is this happening to everyone or just a few people (including me)?

WhatsApp on the Nexus 4 seems to be a complete and utter disaster. I don't know why but it takes 10-20 seconds to send messages via whatsapp, even when my signal is perfectly full and I could be browsing. On my old S1, it would send them almost instantly, the N4 seems to wait, dilly dally for a little bit then send them when it's happy to. I can't tell if it's a modem issue or a bug in JB but it's getting annoying.
I regularly receive clumps of 4 or 5 messages. They do usually arrive, even when in dormant, but they don't arrive like, one after the other, they just arrive all at once.
Its the standard jb WiFi issue described in Google bug report and happens to everyone.
Whatsapp is fine over 3g if.you have a decent 3g connection. In fact I use whatsapp on 2g and notifications are instant with the screen off.
As a side note, on fauxs latest beta kernel I haven't had the signal bars turn grey.

Not for me. It's fine over WiFi. Totally b0rken over 3G, takes ages to update and send messages
FYI this also happens with Facebook messenger

Can't decide what it is. Internet browsing seems fine on this phone, but WhatsApp is ****ed.
Even further problems today, surely this is to do with the baseband?
I'm just wondering what the hell does this notification mean it keeps popping up every minute and it's really starting to piss me off, can anyone explain to me how the hell to get rid of this? Cheers.

I have had that notification pop up a few times during the week and did not know what it was. It said that my home network was unstable and automatically switched me to my mobile network, but my home network has been fine and I have several other devices on it and have no issues with those whatsoever.
Do you guys have bluetooth running? I've noticed some issues on mine with wifi and bluetooth running at the same time - causes some lag/interference on both.
