In February, I ordered a Galaxy SII skyrocket via Amazon Wireless, using my upgrade in the process. While checking my AT&T account today, I noticed that AT&T never changed the date on which my contract ends. I purchased an iphone 4 back in July 2010, and that is still my active contract, meaning it ends in two months. I am still eligible for an upgrade (might pick up the HTC One X, but I don't know if I can live with no expandable storage)!! MY AT&T account does say that the Skyrocket is my active phone, but my contract officially ends in two months as of now! Has this happened to anyone before?
Edit:
I came up with an amazing plan. I'm going to go to the Apple store later and "upgrade" to an iPhone 4S due to its extremely high resale value. I will sell that phone on ebay for ~$500. With the $500, I'm going to buy a Galaxy Nexus for $400 (yay). I will then sell my Skyrocket for ~$300. Profit!
Edit: Successfully "upgraded" to an iphone 4S which will be hitting eBay within the hour!
Edit: My brand new, unlocked galaxy nexus arrived via Google Play today. I bought it with the funds obtained from selling the iPhone. Very happy with the phone. Sucks to be you AT&T!
I wish! Snatch a phone while you can!

wow...this is great....
I've only ever had bad experiences with AT&T...anyways, grab a new phone! And sell it!
SD card? Get the Ion.
Available in June on AT&T.
Nice! Get the real SGS2/sell, ????, profit.
get it asap!
had a similar issue. I have a family plan 3 lines. I burned an upgrade the SGS2 for $0.01 on sale ( made sure to call and had them waive $30 activation fee), made a quick $275 extra needed cash.
A few weeks later I logged into my account and checked upgrade status, my wife (who also recently upgraded to nitro hd, for $50), hers upgrade was still available, and mine, which I used for the SGS2, was still availble for upgrade. I clicked on the last line and clicked back a few times to double check mine and my wife's and they magically disappeared, now not available until 2013.
I hope you really snuck one by on them, but I wouldnt be so sure.

get a screenshot of it, so you can say "it said I was available for an upgrade", and cover yourself.
I really hope this works for you.

I activated the phone before selling. I just took the sim card out, restored, and sent it off to ebay.
You guys will be happy to know that my Nexus arrived today!
As most early adopters of the Vibrant probably qualify for an upgrade by now, how many are jumping to the Galaxy S III when it hits June 21st? I know I am just waiting for the preorder details!

Not really sure yet. For some reason I'm not entirely impressed with the SGSIII. May check out something by HTC. I've never had one of their smartphones.
Not me. I'm off contract now, so unless something goes wrong I'll be rocking my Vibrant for quite some time. It'd be nice to have a decent camera though
I sure am, although i will look around for best deals at places like walmart, best buy, costco, amazon etc and may be wait sometime for deals to show up. I am due for full upgrade on june 21st, but don't want to drop 200 bucks. is there any additional charges like activation fees etc when upgrading?
While I am not on TMo my contract doesn't end until November and I have been grandfathered in the "unlimited" data with my carrier (until they decide I'm not anymore and screw me). But with that being said, I'll go unlocked when that time comes, so hopefully they'll come way down in price by then much like the GNex is now.
$799usd retail is too rich for my blood. I love my Vibe anyways and I just bought a tablet 3 moths ago, so pretty sure a new phone would be a hard sell with the wifely right now.

I agree, I'm gonna stick with my Vib for a bit more.
I have to buy my own phones (i'm a teen, my parents do not pay for me) and that price is just too steep, and with the gas prices these days. I'd go broke before I buy another smartphone. I recently also bought the Galaxy Tab 10.2, I'm planning on not rooting or anything, keeping it a virgin for as long as I can. I use it quite frequently when I'm at home, so rather not brick it or anything.
I'm due for an upgrade on the 30th of June, so depending on how much they want me to fork out....I may be sticking to my vibrant for a little while longer...which I honestly have no problem doing ^^ haha
If you ARE due for an upgrade, how much is it going to cost? The reg. $200?
I can probably take my moms upgrade, she loves her Vibrant and could care less about the next big thing.

I attempted to check via their website, but they wouldn't let me since the gs3 isn't available yet ^^;; I might just give em a call tomorrow if I'm not too too lazy. Or, if anyone has more insight into this...I would also like to know lol because I'm not sure ^^;;
Yeah, I can almost guarantee it will be $200.
SGS was $200
SGS2 was $200
and after looking at this article (it's about ATT and it being $200)
I'm pretty sure it will be $200 for all carriers.

For the record: It was AT&T that decided to lock the bootloader, not HTC. Notice how the One S has its bootloader unlocked officially through HTCDev.
---------- Post added at 10:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:40 PM ----------
SGS3 is cool and all, but I like how functional my Vibrant is already thanks to the devs. Isn't the point of XDA suppose to be getting the most out of your devices while they're still kicking? I can understand certain grievances like say....OUR GPS. But that's about it.
Holy ****, I just saw a SGS3 for sale on Craigslist for $1200. That's crazy

Technically true, but they also locked S-On and won't unlock that.
What I just don't get is, why? There's always a work around, yeah locked bootloaders and S-On make it harder, but they don't stop it from happening, so why do it?

Its up in the air for me right now. If Sprint is still doing unlimited data when I'm ready to move on (I've been ready since the day I bought this phone, but I don't like wasting money, so I'm just waiting as long as I can), then I'm moving to them and getting the next Nexus or an iPhone 5. If not, I'm gonna unlock my Vibrant and just use T-Mobile's prepaid service until I NEED to buy a new phone.
Can't wait for the Galaxy SIII.
My phone is breaking down and reporting weird battery numbers.
I'm ready to buy a GS3 from my carrier (WIND) for $599.99 (16GB Version)
Don't forget that the phone also includes the tax on the $799.99 price tag (around $66 in cali) even with the $200 after rebate price tag, $6 LCD waste fee, and other miscellaneous bs fees and taxes.
I'm out...been off contact since November...waiting around for a worthy upgrade... this more than qualifies...can't wait.

Nice info man, thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately, I am not eligible for this but good info for others for sure.
So they had a price reduction? Planning on picking up a Note 4 in the coming week.
Although, this is not good news for Samsung or the performance of the Galaxy Note 4. A price reduction at this point means that the sales of the Note 4 are not performing as well as they want.
Terrible news for Samsung. Remember they already lost a LOT of money with the 'get $200 back' promotion. It's such a great phone and once again no one is buying it, yet iSheep continue to get iPhones.

Not sure, you may have to call about it. I have both business and consumer accounts, my rep. said he just found out about it yesterday and extended it to my consumer account.
Main verizonwireless site still shows original price. Has anyone had success getting this adjustment?
I disagree that the phone isn't selling well. They typically always reduce the price of the phone after it's been on the market for a while. I might take back the Lg G3 now for the note. I only got the LG cause it was 29 new on contract.

Do you see the iPhone being reduced in price? If enough people were paying $300 for your phone you wouldn't just give it to them for $150 out of the goodness of your heart. Price drops are to increase sales, plain and simple. If you had been paying attention to Samsung's earnings reports and stock performance, you would see that they are very much in trouble. They aren't doing as bad as Sony, but they aren't even in the same league as the profits Apple is rolling in.
All companies have those slow down, Apple included. Samsung is still the top dog in phones, nothing will change that.
Argh. I JUST bought my phone last week. I paid $299 and got a $100 target gift card.
Has anyone else been able to get an adjustment, or the promotional $149 price besides me?
I wonder if there will be a reduction for those of us who purchased the Note 4 on Edge?
Or us suckers who paid full price for the phone in order to keep unlimited data
Huh. I just called Verizon, and the guy said there were no promotions for the Note 4 right now, but there could be on Christmas. (Everyone, including them, should hear about select deals on some phones a couple days before Christmas.)
I wonder what's up?

Update
Just got off the phone with tmobile. Anyone who had a Note 7 will automatically get a 25 dollar credit within 2 to 3 billing cycles. As to the 100 dollars off, theiy are not sure exactly how that is going to work but think they will provide it as form as a credit. Good thing I waited. I may wait a tad bit longer.

$100? Nice big old slap in the face from Sammy. I will be returning my $900 Note 7 back to Best Buy as soon as my brand new in box s7 edge from ebay which only costed $500 arrives this weekend.
I refunded my paid off Note 7 to go back to my Note 4, does that count as going to another Sammy device?
Hi, you probably read this article: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...e-discount-many-leaving-customers-frustrated/
I am still waiting for my Galaxy S8 to arrive(Monday) and after receiving will need to send in my old trade-in device. Did any one have their trade-in denied or accepted? I know that Samsung values the rejected trade-in as $25 and isn't returning the old phone back to the customer even if they return the new phone.
I was planning on sending in a Note 2. It's in very good condition, with box and charger. I figured that may increase my chances of the $200 trade in offer.
I don't understand the appeal it would be more cost effective to sell your phone and then use that money towards the s8 instead of relying on Samsung's judgement on what is acceptable and what isn't.
I really don't feel bad for the ones buying cheap phones and trying to turn them in for 200 and only getting 25

You get more money for the S7 ($300 I think) but it clearly stated $200 for ANY smartphone in really good condition. If you read the small print it basically said trade in values may vary. That means they pulled a fast one and are giving almost everyone $25. Once you've traded it in you're screwed because you'll get $25 and you can't get your old phone back. So trade in a phone worth nothing, at least you'll get $25 for it.

Ah, ok. Thank you. Just a marketing move. For 25$ not even my Galaxy S3
Did anyone return items back to Samsung? This is the return policy, is it actually true: "Samsung Direct will accept, for return or exchange, defective or unopened merchandise purchased at Samsung.com/US..." So I can't open the Galaxy S8 if I want to return it?
Here is my personal experience. I ordered the S8 directly from Samsung. First the deal was $100 off, from $725 to $625. Then $200 with trade-in. I sent them my LeEco LeMax 2. I had always kept it a case and the screen was perfect. No scratches on the phone. They honored the deal, and I paid $425 for my S8. Actually $457 with tax. It did state in the fine print that they reserve the right to make the final judgement, so they could say this phone wasn't eligible, but I personally think this has more to do with people trying to pull a fast one by purchasing a cheap Walmart phone for $50-$100 and returning it for a $200 discount. If you are honest with them, they are honest with you. They want people to come back to Samsung. The overall sales numbers for the S8 has been down after last years fiasco with the Note. They are not looking to create another public relations fiasco.

Thanks for your input! I have the same deal as yours and my new phone should arrive today. I do have an old LG Optimus which I would rate 8/9 out of 10 easily. Practically no scratches in overall, no dings, works perfect and battery life is long too. I could give it to my mom, but she likes her Nokia feature phone as she only calls on it. I just hope that Samsung will honor it because by my understanding it is in good working condition/order.

They said my S6 edge does not meet the "normal tear and wear" conditions., which, by Samsung standards if they have any, I don't think any devices would pass unless they are brand new.

Here is what I did when ordering an unlocked S8+
They unlocked S8 Plus is normally $850, got it for $470
1. 20% discount for students (search for Samsung student discount). Discount is based on full price.
2. Samsung $100 discount for unlocked phones (not sure if this is still available)
3. $200 trade-in credit
I placed the order last week, direct from Samsung. Website and CSR said it was back ordered 2-3 weeks, but a few days later I received the shipping notification and I received the phone today.
For the trade-in:
1. Called Samsung sales and spoke with a CSR. I confirmed that the $200 trade-in credit applies to a phone that (a) runs any verison of Android or iOS, (b) powers on and holds a charge, (c) does not have a cracked or damaged screen), and (e) has only normal signs of wear-and-tear. I confirmed with the CSR that any phone that meets these requirements would work, no matter how old or cheap. I also verified that minor scratches to the phone's screen or body were considered normal wear and tear and would not cause the trade in to be rejected. Finally, I recorded the phone call in case Samsung doesn't honor the trade-in.
2. With the above in mind, I purchased a brand new Alcatel phone from Walmart for $20. (can't post link, too new).
3. I will be sending the phone back to them tomorrow and I'll see what they do.
Other notes from my conversation with the CSR:
* Samsung's return policy is that items may be returned within 30 days. You have 15 days from *receipt* to initiate the return, and Samsung must receive the item within another 15 days.
* Officially, the item must be unopened to receive a full refund. Opened items are subject to a 15% restocking fee. The CSR told me that is is noramlly uncommon for Samsung to charge the restocking fee for items (even opened ones) that are returned in excellent condition, with all original accessories.
So far I like the phone, but not sure if I will be keeping it or exchanging it for a normal S8. I'm also not thrilled with the absence of a way to unlock the bootloader. This is my first experience with a Samsung phone and I kinds of just assumed that like my ZTE, an unlocked, non-carrier phone would have the bootloader accessible.
