Hey guys,
Samsung has unveiled the following smartphone for US market:
- epic 4g (sprint)
- vibrant (t-mobile)
- captivate (at&t)
- fascinate (verizon)
They are very similar to Galaxy S but all have a gyroscope!
It's strange that only the European version has not.
Could You confirm this with certainty, please?
Thank's a lot in advance
I thought only the Sprint version is rumored to have a gyroscope.
I am going to the Galaxy S event tomorrow in NYC. I'll double check, but all of the press releases state that US Galaxy S devices have Gryo's included.
Captivate and Vibrant don't have front facing camera's though. However, the Epic 4G is awesome. Gyro, Front facing cam, LED flash, 4G modem, Physical keyboard. I am going to sell my i9000 as soon as the Epic 4G becomes available.
I really can't see why to sell a device to upgrade to the same device- with a gyroscope.
It's barely going to be used anyways.
Also, the vibrant doesn't have a gyro.

My main gripe with the epic 4g is only 1gb of storage.... not 16gb.
http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g-specs
How come Asia did not get there phone
- epic 4g (sprint)
- vibrant (t-mobile)
I need the keyboard and the look is much nicer than galaxy s i9000.
I can't find anywhere on Internet this Epic 4g will have
802.16e on 2.5 GHz and will work only in USA?
or they will have 'dual'
802.16e on 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz and will work in EU and USA?
HTC EVO 4g for example have only WiMAX 802.16e on 2.5 Ghz
Hi guys,
I've discovered that the Samsung have the Bosch SMB380 triaxial acceleration sensor and Yamaha YAS529 compass.
The question is:
SMB380 + YAS529 = gyroscope?
After reading through this forum on many many topics, it came to my attention that localized version of SGS for America (USA/Canada) seems to have missing "features" like camera/flash, smaller storage, but they have the addition of the Gyroscope, where the international version I9000 has everything but the Gyroscope, but is compensated by the other sensors which the I9000 actually has 4 sensor instead of 6...
So, in the end I'm still not sure which model is better, but it'll be good to know.
Does anyone have a side by side comparison list of the different sub models for the SGS ?
I've already ordered the European/Asian I9000 version, I'm quite sure it's the best one out there, however i might be wrong, specially the CDMA sprint version has the Keyboard/4G that non of the other versions have.
4G is not a biggie as the North American infrastructure doesn't even support it yet, but having a Keyboard is a huge bonus, but i'm sure it'll weight more.
Why can't we just have it all in one single version?
The Epic 4G is the ONLY model that has all the features +LED Flash +Sliding Keyboard +4G modem
The other 3 models are basically the same in that they don't have front facing cameras but the Verizon fascinate model has a flash on the back.

Gyroscope ? Which model has this ?
It's not *actually* a gryo. It's using an accelerometer and geo-magnetic sensor together that can determine 6-axis of control.
And all 4 versions of the phone have this six-axis sensor.
Edit: That isn't to say that this method of six-axis control isn't as good as the iPhone. I honestly don't know how it fares against it. The only thing you should take away from this is that it's actually more efficient. The iPhone uses four sensors to: Accelerometer/Magnetometer/Gyro/Proximity. Whereas the Galaxy S uses 3 sensors: Accelerometer/Magnetometer(+gryo-ish axis)/proximity.
As far as I can see, it's just a gyro smashed together with a magnetometer. Something like this: http://www.global.yamaha.com/news/2006/20060726.html
So, I want to say that it would deliver the same fidelity as the iPhone 4's Gyro, however, I couldn't tell you. Also, I don't think that Android has an API's that currently make use of full six-axis control. So developers would have to do it all themselves.

looks like ATT has gyro, Sprint has flashlight, Euro has front-facing cam......what the hell does Tmo get ? Non of those features ?
This is stupid, why not release phone with all those features on all carriers......
Again, just to be clear. All four models will be getting this Acclerometer+GeoMagnetic sensor

I think the accelerometer in iphone is just biaxial while SGS has a triaxial accelerometer.

Actually if you give swype a try you'll find a physical keyboard to be just bulk... Sprint's does seem to have everything: Flash, keyboard, and front camera... I read something about it not having a lot of internal memory though.
@kolyan
Hope you didn't take offense.
@aeo087
You are correct. The Epic 4G is said to have 1GB of usable mem and the Verizon Fascinate is only supposed to have 2GB. Obviously they can all be expandable with MicroSD storage.
Also the keyboard is a negative to my wife. She just like candy-bar style.

T-Mobile has the biggest internal memory storage of them all. I believe it is 16GB.

The answer is none.
Please be specific with your question.
but what exactly is "all components"?
AT&T 16gb, No FFC, No flash, gyroscope
Tmobile 16gb, No FFC, No flash, gyroscope
Verizon 2gb, No FFC NOT SURE, flash, gyroscope, Wi-fi Hotspot supported
Sprint 1gb, Yes FFC NOT SURE, Flash, gyroscope, Keyboard, wi-fi hotspot supported
International 8/16gb, FFC, no Flash, gyroscope (not sure)
As you can see there is something missing in each one.

only US model with a FFC is the Sprint one. and afaik the Sprint one also has the wifi hotspot feature enabled as well albeit extra per month
and reason why they took the FFC out of the ATT Verizon and T-Mobile ones is because those networks dont support video calls. end of story

Do you know what technology of the network support that?

well its more an issue of bandwidth, 3G can technically support it, but isnt enabled on T-Mobile AT&T or Verizon atm. T-Mobile will most likely be next in line considering they are HSPA+ 21mbps which is faster than WiMax. Plus they just recently launched the Nokia E73 Mode which has a FFC, just video calls not supported currently.
EDIT: My theory as to why ATT Verizon and Tmobile left out the FFC is because unlike the iPhone they cant dictate whether or not its a wifi only feature because of the nature of Android. So since they dont currently have the bandwidth they left it out instead of leaving it in.

T-Mobile network does support it, I've been doing video calls on there network, They just don't want to bog down there network with people doing video calls.

well like I said bandwidth issue at the moment. By the end of the year with HSPA+ available to most of its network I think it'll be more commonplace.
How important do you think the camera flash is? I want to take decent photos but don't know how much the flash plays into that.
Also the Epic 4G is the only one with a dedicated camera button.
How do you think the sliding keyboard be? I'd be concerned that it'd be too flimsy and break easily. I'd like a keyboard but not one that is weak.
All in all the Sprint Epic looks like the one for me. Except for the keyboard question.
Can anybody figure out what is the main difference between the epic vs the other galaxy s variants other than slider.. Most of them all have the same processor and all.. difference is celluar service is all i can tell. Reason i am asking, i was looking at some other Galaxy phones and all of them look the same in looks and style...
The epic is essentially the international version with a keyboard and wimax. Oh and no internal storage
That's it.
The other american ones have certain things removed or changed like the ffc
Go for whichevr variant gives you the best service (but don't get the verizon one....trust me.)

The Epic comes with an older version of Touchwiz while the others use the latest. Also, the Epic is the only variant that includes both LED flash and front camera.
Also the Epic 4g has a notification LED on the front
It seems that the craze of Samsung Galaxy S II is not likely to get diminish in near future as yet another operator, U.S. Cellular is on the way to release its version of Galaxy S II in United States. This smartphone will be slightly different from other American variants in terms of its design and specs..........
http://mirolta.com/2012/02/22/u-s-c...sion-of-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-in-united-states/
A bigger battery is always good, but a 4.5" screen is probably a bit too big for wvga resolution.

Belongs in the Epic 4G Touch forums - US Cellular is a CDMA provider, and that combined with identical specs to the E4GT says this is just a rebadged E4GT.
This phone's model is SCH-R760 and it isn't 4G, just 3G so I don't think it can be thrown in with the Epic 4G Touch. Where should we be posting about this one?

Interesting. Probably it's an E4GT with the WiMax radio removed.
Well, it isn't out yet or Samsung is violating the GPL with it (no source code for the kernel posted), so it's hard to tell.
Thanks. It came out today and I have one so they are indeed violating the GPL. You are probably right though, it likely is the same phone minus that radio. I'm looking to root so I'm hoping I can use E4GT methods.
any luck??
Just wondering if you had any luck. bought mine yesterday and its rooted. im itching to try some custom roms, wondering.....
Still nothing for this phone? Are the R760 folks just SOL?

No. There just isn't an SCH-R760 forum on THIS site. Closest information you'll find is in the Epic 4G Touch (SPH-D710) forums, but they are still different phones, so don't flash any actual E4GT ROMs, unless they explicitly state they will work on the SCH-R760.
Google is, and always will be, your friend.

A quick perusal of the results I got seem to indicate that the results on the teamuscellular.com website are likely to be your best resource for this variant.
