There are Roms posted in the Dev section. ICS Stock also.
Your best bet, would be to look at the directory structure on some stock rooted roms, and also look at the updater script for them.
This will give you a good starting point on what to change in your script as far as BB and SU.
MD

Also, I highly recommend you look into the android build system.
Yes its complicated.
yes its hard at first.
but there is only so much you can do to mod an already compiled rom.
even with little coding experience you are able to do a lot when you have access to the source!
plus, if you fix something, you can submit it to have it fixed for everyone.
between this guide and our CM9 thread, you should be able to get started. we have some basic setup instructions over there.

[Q] Where can I find official T-MO MT3G Froyo kernel?

Hi, as the topic states, does anyone know where i can download one and flash? my setup on my sig is current.
thanks
So you're trying to run the official kernel with a custom ROM? Why?
why not? and what prevents me from running an official kernel? to OC and drain my batteries? other than that, what else?
edit/
what may keep me from using an official kernel is the 15MB additional ram. however i was under the impression that if I had radio 2.22.27.08, and H-Boot 1.33.0013(d), it doesnt limit me from using any of the froyo kernels floating around. if im incorrect with my assumptions, can someone enlighten me?

Because you can't OC is probably the main reason. The only other one I can think of is the random battery drain that some kernels experience.
On the plus side I can think of stability and battery life. Knock yourself out, I'm sure someone can post it for you.
I have the zip file for the 2.2 OTA but I have no idea where to find the kernel.

IMO, the current ROm im using (TheOfficial) is working wonderfully. I care less about overclocking since I don't play games and dont find the need for the applications I use to be overclocked. Also the UI response on the ROM is incredible.
You are right, until the other ROMs iron out the random battery drain, which I have experiences in both CM7 and pershoot kernels, i wont be using them because i do not like having to restart the phone every time after i charge. ezterry's current kernel always gives me the green screen. however, ez's older kernel doesn't, but I prefer running the latest unmodified kernel.
I'm satisfied using a non-oc kernel and would rather set the mim clock freq. to ~177.
Makes sense. If you can figure out how to extract the kernel from that zip I linked you to, you should have your kernel.

lol, thats my problem. I don't. I also have athe official OTA Froyo image for mt3g. but i have no idea how to extract and apply it to the current OS. Thanks for the offer though. i'll try to find a way to do it. was just hoping someone had a flashable official kernel laying around they'de like to share.
I hit a brick wall. I guess i'll just stick with ezBiffTestKernel20101106-2708_S based on kernel 2.6.34.7. It's a bit old but it will suffice until i figure it out. At least I don't have to reboot every time I pull from the USB charger.

Btw, can anyhone remember that the OTA kernel version was?

Actually there might be a legal copyright issue with distributing oem kernels in custom ROMs. I don't know for sure though.
Shouldn't been since the kernel code is open source, but I'm not sure either. I did find a guide to extracting kernel's from ROM's but it requires that you are either running Linux or are running Linux in a virtual environment.

The kernel is open source. I dont think i have a problem there. Its gapps that we can not redistribute. i read that from CM forum.

thanks! if u can find the link again, i'd be grateful. im on a unix (Mac) environment, so i might be able to do it. if not on Mac, I already have vmware fusion installed and its not a problem slapping on the latest Ubuntu.
I did find a how-to on CM wiki that required a boot.img and fastboot to flash. also found one requiring zimage from a rom. but i could not find the zimage file from the TMO Froyo OTA. lol.
Here's what I was reading. Which is doing the boot.img method.

The official kernel is meant to go with 0013 and 28.25 so yes, you should still have the additional RAM, which this phone desperately needs.
2.6.32.9-g94b855e
[email protected]#1 is what my phone says and I just received the OTA update a few days ago. Hope this is what you were looking for!
I've been trying to figure this out all day. I actually have a linux installation already but none of the download links for the perl files work. If you have them please upload them somewhere and I'll make us a flashable AnyKernel update.zip.
I've been trying to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667923 but none of the android-dls.com links work

I'm not trying to be rude, but, besides you, who knows what is best for you?
You've provided a link to a specific ROM, so I am assuming you are interested in this particular ROM. I would read over the developers post and see what features are contained in the ROM and decide if your stock ROM is better suited for you or not. If you have questions about that ROM, you could post them in the same thread you linked. If you are asking if that ROM is stable, then you should probably post that question in that thread instead of this one.
Hope this helps and, again, not trying to be rude, just wanting to understand your question.
I tried this ROM and I thought is was great. If you want to stay very close to stock but retain root it is a great way to go. You can edit the boot.prop file to disable the cell stand by and save battery and I was able to flash an OC kernel. This is the best way to get stock 3.2 because if you use the ACER update you will loose root. I ended up choosing Taboonay 2.1 over this ROM because vache has an online kitchen that allows you to choose which Acer stock apps you want to install and skip the ones you don't. Also, the stock apps get installed on the data partition, so they can be unistalled and don't take up room in the ROM. You can't go wrong with either ROM though, they are both awesome.
Hope this helps.
thenk you both the question was if these is correct rom for me because if i'm downloading from the post of the stock's there's many rom's there so i understand that here it doesn't matter

No prob. Best of luck. I do not have my A500 yet but I have a Viewsonic Gtab. Like with my Gtab, I am looking forward to trying out the custom ROMs for the A500. If you invest in a good backup strategy, trying out a new ROM isn't an earth shattering experience.
Glad I could help. Which ROM did you end up flashing?

Need advise on 3.2 ROM

Hi there,
I am new to the iconia forums but not new to android. I already have a heavily customized Xperia X10.
What I am looking for is a pre rooted stock 3.2 ROM. CWM is installed and works.
I have read so many threads but I am still not sure wich file to use.
It's a A500 with Acer_A500_4.017.07_EMEA_CUS7 ROM. The new one should work in Germany.
Can anyone help me? Many thanks in advance.
Karl
I am running taboonay 2.2 using the latest Thor kernel and am very happy. It is rock solid even overcooked.
Vache has removed most of the bloat, and but offers a kitchen to add back anything you want.
If you are looking for total stock for your locale, and someone else will need to chime in.

Have a look at the DEV section of this forum, read about each ROM, and then decide which one best meets your individual needs, and desires.
He's asking for a STOCK ROM, only that it's pre-rooted. He isn't asking for taboonay or such. Work on reading-comprehension.
well in the dev section there are some rooted stock, you will have to dig a few pages back
heres one one the second page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265847 not sure if you will get any conflict with u being in germany
if u feel adventurous taboonay has always been solid, its built of a acers' rom just adds some goodies for drive mounts and stuff(usefully for plugging in external hard drives
@ snickle
Thanks buddy. But as WereCatf pointed out, I am looking for a stock ROM. But I missed that Kitchen-thingy when I first read that thread. Seems promising. But it requires registering so I didn't look any further in to it so far.
@ kjy2010
Also Thanks to you! I glanced through the dev section. But most of the ROMs have been cleaned by creators in some way. I would like to decide myself. But as there doesn't seem to be such a ROM that I am looking for, I will probably test one or the other custom ROMs.
@ all others
Thank you!

You can always grab a completely stock ROM, install SU, and busybox before installing the ROM on your tab, and you'll have exactly what you want

Is it really that easy? OMG! My brain is so twistet that I think too complicated (more or less). I thought rooting will be gone with every update.
Thanks M8

Karl, you still have to root and install a recovery (the best method). How else are you gonna be able to flash that rooted stock rom?
Magic wishes???
If you look in the dev section, there is a post for a US based stock rom. What is important, is that it gives instructions on how to do it with your own rom.

Hi Karl.
For a European Stock Rom 3.2 with root (version Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1) I went here :
xda
http:__forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280457
it is available to download from here
http:__code.google.com/p/acer-a500/downloads/list
and there is even a very good tutorial in German on how to install it :
http:__www.android-hilfe.de/1703451-post1.html
I have been running it for 2 months without a glitch
Hi jodokus77,
thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if the GEN1 ROM was apllicable for german region.
What I am going to do next is to receive the OTA 3.2 Update without installing it. Guess it will be placed in the download folder. If it is not a GEN1 or GEN2 ROM, I will root it myself following the instructions in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290318
Karl
Finally I did it as jodokus77 supposed.
Everything is working as expected.
Karl
Ok Karl,
Think some of us were a bit confused with exactly what you wanted
Close, but, no cigar (old phrase) as we say...
Glad you're happy with it!

Custom ROM

Hi there,
A friend of mine owns this phone, and although he likes it, the software is pretty bad because of the service provider software.
I have a NExus S and i have already made root to it, so i was thinking in doing the same to his phone.
I have saw this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747
And i intend to follow it, but wouldn't it be better to instal something like 2.3?
Thank you for your help.

Yup, 2.3 is running stable on GT540, your friend can pick his choice, currently Miroslav's SDSL and AOSP are overall most complete out there. SDSL is CM7 by the way. Also there are various soft mods, so pick what you like.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364416

Thanks for the fast answer.
So, i have to follow the guide i provided, and instead of installing the 2.1 rom, i installed one of the 2 you provided?
So, witch of the two you think its better? My fried prefers stability and speed over customization.
Sorry my ignorance, but it is a softmode?
Thanks.

You first have to upgrade to 2.1 with fastboot in order to flash recovery as described in these two guides
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042639
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224747
chose whichever you consider easier.
Unlike Nexus S, when you boot in GT540's fastboot mode you will see only black screen, nothing else, so don't be scared.
Also leoposas has tool to automate ADB and fastboot commands
Then when you have working recovery you can choose any ROM you like and install it through recovery.
You can use latest CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815189
or any other you recovery you like but make sure it supports Edify scripting (CWM version above 2.5.1.8, and other newer recoverys).
For speed and stability AOSP is excellent choice but SDSL is also pretty fast and stable.
Softmod is a modded ROM, that hasn't been built from source but modded after compiling usually with themes, scripts, tweaks, apps etc. For example someone uses some base ROM (CM7, AOSP, stock) and mods it. That's a rough explanation of softmod.
