HTC one x VS Int'l SGS3 - Galaxy S III General

i am in need a phone within a month or 2, plenty of time to research(t-mobile). Narrow it down to SGS3 or hox(S4 or quad). Maybe even LG quad-core version too. And no, i dont want a S4 SGS3.
Phone will be rooted and custom.
I want SGS3 quad for power, should i buy it and wait for tmobile to refarm?
If they all come with S4 chips, i would get HOX then LG then SGS3.
But my Gut feeling, get SGS3 and hope they refarm my area right away.
Help me decide please!
All i want is a nokia 4.3-4.7 shell, exynos with 6 gpu series, and any kind of 4g that give me 5mbps.

All the HOX vs SGS3 discussion you could ask for can be found here

Galaxy S II LTE being released on 11/6/11 for ATT

http://m.bgr.com/2011/10/31/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-lte-skyrocket-landing-on-att-november-6th-for-250/
Noticed this on another site this morning.
I have a 5" streak, and who knows if/when the Samsung Note will hit the states.
Might have to give this one a look. The 4.3" screen looked too small to me, the extra .2" probably won't make much difference, but I'll take another look at it.
I had the Streak too. I want the Note, but its too much for me right now. My Dad is going to get it though....Can't wait to play with his
I already have a SGS II (unlocked UK model) on AT&T's network. So I don't see much point in upgrading to this phone (especially since AT&T's LTE network is still in its infancy). For my next phone I want at least a "retina" type display with LTE... Maybe a SGS III?

galaxy s2 HD has retina display, however it haven't mention anything release about the HD version yet. Damn it i want the HD version not the regular version, so does anyone know if it plan to release the HD version anytime soon or it is going to wait for ics or galaxy nexus to release first
Guys ...clove has their Note in stock Thurs....as does Expansys...by the end of the week.
I think its gonna be a while before carriers get it. Percieved as too risky because of the size.
Novelty item....
The Note is way too big to be used as a phone.
6:40 mark
As for this phone, it probably uses the Qualcomm chip so no thanks.
To each...........his own.
look forward to galaxy s2 HD

The Skyrocket uses a Qualcomm chip and is directly related to the Celox/Hercules/TSGS2. Unless someone has a burning need for LTE (it's currently available in six cities) or the bigger screen it doesn't seem worth giving up Exynos.
I've already got my note. Ordered from Negri electronics

I'm excited for this phone. It's the perfect upgrade from my Dell Streak.
Wow I ordered one from the UK hours before this story lol. But since AT&T nerfed the processor, I'm not too bummed, and they don't have LTE in Seattle. Also, I have a Streak now too, and saw how AT&T dragged their feet on updates compared to the UK version, so I don't regret my decision
Still, good to hear this.
Can we just assume we'll also get HSPA+?

If this pans out, then yes. It has the same LTE/HSPA+ chipset as the Skyrocket.
Nothing new, just the same speculation as ever. Just a different source speculating this time.
I've been strongly opinionated in other threads, suggesting it's unlikely AT&T will release the Note, but I will gladly eat my words if they do release it. I've had little faith in the few other articles people've posted, but Engadget's a little more believable.
I'd love for an LTE version. I really, REALLY wish there were some way to implement LTE without switching from the exynos processor to the qualcrap. And it's criminal the way AT&T insists on removing hardware home buttons and replacing with the strip of 4 capacitive buttons! Why! That's a completely unnecessary downgrade!
If they release an LTE model and it's 1.5 GHz qualcomm with 4 capacitive buttons instead of the current physical home button model, I'll seriously have a hard time choosing between it and my current (awesome) international version. I'll have to give LTE a try to see if it's worth the sacrifices.
I wish the international version came with NFC so I can try out that android beam on ICS when it comes out
Man I couldn't imagine waiting on AT&T fail version until 2012. Glad I get to enjoy my non nerfed one right now. Grand theft auto 3 runs smooth as butter on this Exynos.

No Exynos, no thanks. I'll keep the international version.
there goes AT&T again screwing over a good phone...
just get a ****rocket it only has a smaller screen...
save your cash, get international version, get straight talk, save $70 a month, screw at&t

I dislike AT&T as much as the next guy, but what does everyone expect them to do? Their network is overcrowded. Getting some of their customers offloaded to their LTE bandwidth will only help. It's not their fault that Qualcomm currently has the only chipset capable of LTE. You can make a choice: slightly better processor performance and battery life, or faster download speeds. But regardless, AT&T releasing their new phones in LTE is best for everyone. Even those of us who don't have LTE phones could benefit if their 3G network gets a little relief as other customers move to LTE.

There's nothing wrong with the performance of the Qualcomm LTE-capable chipset. It works fine in my wife's Skyrocket. The only "issue" is that it doesn't benchmark as high as the Exynos for the fanboys who have never seen or used it in person. Maybe Samsung should get off its @zz and make an LTE-capable Exynos chipset to satisfy them.

I didn't mean to suggest that there was. I think the benefits of Exynos tends to be exagerated in these forums. That's why I said slightly better performance. In the reviews I've read (such as SGII vs. Skyrocket), I do get the impression that Exynos versions do have a slight edge in smoothness. Particularly when you consider that the Note has a faster chip than the SGII, while the LTE note will presumably have the same Snapdragon as the Skyrocket, but pushing more pixels. I think it's also fair to say the LTE phones do have higher battery consumption. So there are trade-offs. But the biggest difference is you can get a GSM version now, vs. probably getting an LTE version on some unknown date.
That settles it, I'm going to pull the trigger on the international version.
Anyone wanna buy the AT&T iPhone 4s that I'm going to buy and resell to offset the cost? (black or white, your choice!) ;-)

That comment wasn't directed at you. There were a few ridiculous posts above. And "smoothness" is all user perception. IMO, it's a bit of a crutch used to elevate one device over another when there's nothing else to criticize. I think the vast majority of people complaining about these things on the forums have never held/compared both devices in person - they're strictly going off Quadrant scores and repeating what others have said.
That said, I think the HSPA+/LTE Note will be out on AT&T in January - I don't think we'll be waiting that long for it.
I prefer the four capacitive buttons, but am bummed about the change in processor. I'd rather have the Exynos than LTE.

International Quad Core Tegra 3 HTC One X or S4 AT&T One X?

I was debating on what would be my Inspire 4G's (US Desire HD) replacement. I have an upgrade coming and i could get a HTC One X from AT&T for $200 or i pay full price for the International One X. The AT&T one only has a S3 Dual core because of LTE and LTE isnt that important to me since my data isnt unlimited anyway. the International One X is the beast bcuz It has a Quad Core Tegra 3 processor. Idk what to get....The Galaxy S3 most likely will a bust in the US bcuz of it having the same s4 processor as the AT&T One X. The International Galaxy S3 will probably be beyond nasty. Idk what to do. Spend more for the best phone or settle for an incremental hardware upgrade like from the iPhone4 to the 4s for cheaper? I would consider going back to US T-Mobile for the Unlimited Data but the frequency bands on the International One X doesnt support T-Mobile's 3G frequency.
Your probably best to asks this over on the one x forums because they'll know more, but...
I would say don't rule out the AT&T One X. Although it has an S3 instead of a Tegra 3 that does not mean its any worse, some may argue that its better as it has the same processing power (maybe even a little more) but is considerably more efficient!
Also don't rule out the GS3 either, because Samsung recently announced it will be powered by a quad core exynos CPU. Of course it may go the way of the GS2 and end up having may different variants for each of the carriers (it's never been a problem for us Brits!). And you may not get "the GS3 you fell in love with" at the unveiling!
All in all I would say that if it makes financial sense, go for the AT&T One X and don't worry that its dual core vs quad core - it just doesn't matter! Or if you're not in any hurry wait a week for the GS3 announcement and then make your decision if you like it or not!

There are websites devoted to comparisons between devices. And buyers advice.
You have posted this same post in more than 1 device forum, which multiple posts are against XDA rules.
If you have other dulplicate posts scattered around XDA, I would suggest you edit them, before the other mods or I find find them. Posting the same post in multiple forums are prohibited as per XDA rules.
The general forum, is for those wishing to discuss certain aspects of the device in general. Or the occassional issue. NOT to ask whether you should get a new device which is totally different from the one you own, without even trying one.
It's like asking somebody to suggest a do-nut for you.
In the end, it just clogs the threads, and makes it more difficult for users to search.
this video is fake...
theres not AT&T logo on the top of the device, and the CPU clock is 1.2GHz and not 1.5GHz.
Without a doubt the S4 versions, purely b/c of battery life.
I am finding that the quad core's battery life is abysmal. I rarely make it through the day, unless I'm turning down the brightness all the way, and juggling turning off gps, wifi, data, etc whenever I don't need it. It's no way to live.

Snapdragon 600 for the UK says Tech Sites, Three says Otherwise

So like many of us, the chip a Smartphone has is one of, if not the most important feature. So the Galaxy S4 just like its predecessor, is going to have two different variants, one with the Snapdragon 600, the other with the Exynos 5 Octa.
I live in the UK, and I have been looking forward to the arrival of the S4 and may even consider upgrading to it. However, I already have a smartphone with an S4 Pro, and I would only get my Visa out for something a bit more than a slight upgrade. So the question I wanted answering was: Which chip was the UK going to get?
Apparently, Samsung has said that the UK was to receive the Snapdragon 600, as the UK is starting to receive 4G and also because the Exynos 5 Octa isn't quite yet in mass production. However, Three says otherwise. On their website (https://www.three.co.uk/Discover/New_Samsung_Galaxy?ID=1394), they state it will come with the Exynos 5 Octa, the model lacking LTE. This makes sense, as Three are constantly boasting how their DC-HSPDA is just as fast as EE's 4G but is available nationwide, not just in a few cities. This makes me cautiously happy, as I have always been with Three and their coverage and Data prices are second to none.
So, what do you think? Is anyone able to shed a bit more light on the situation?
i cant see three being the only company to have the non lte variant , as everyone else will be using 4g . three have brought into 4g , they also apparently got a big slice for free
It's confusing because I have read that 8core SOC will also support 4G
So not sure which will have the LTE chip and which not?
I'm sure it won't be too difficult to get the either version even if it means getting it from abroad.

Many retailers seem to have both octa and LTE listed in the specs based, I believe, on what they were told last week *however* Clove stated in their blog a few days ago that they were still waiting for confirmation from Samsung re specs and price - so it's very likely that currently no retailer has this info either.
If all the stuff that started going round yesterday is true then it looks like we'll get the quad. It's all a bit of a mess really...

Since the 21st March, the Three site has listed the 1.9GHz Snapdragon as the device it is selling so maybe at (and only) the time/day you posted this they incorrectly listed the Exynos.

How to get hold of the S4 Octa?

This week I'm upgrading and will go for the S4. I live in the UK and will go onto Vodafone, however I will be open to switch carriers. I understand there are 3 variants of the S4 the Korean, International and UK/US. And the latter being the Gt-i9505, with the Snapdragon 600 and Adreno 320, while the International is the Gt-i9500, which has the Octa chip and PowerVR SGX 544MP3, yeah I know people will tell me there is virtually no difference, however I'm interested in buying the i9500 as I'd like to see what such a chipset can do, and more so to the point, I dont want to spend so much money and not even be the best (me being me). So my question is, where can I buy on contract an S4 i9500, the 3g version? As after searching all the carriers websites I cannot find one anywhere, and the area I live anyway will never see 4g, so whats the point? If its impossible to get one through a carrier, is there anyway to find one without a £550 upfront cost? As buying the 505 would be pointless, as I wont buy the 4g deal, so I'll have a 4g capable phone which I cant use, in an area it wont appear, with a worse processor and GPU. If it is totally impossible I'll accept that however I like choices and as a buyer spending this much I would like a choice..
Thanks in advance for any answers!
I'm intersted in this too . .specially now that the AT&T S4 has the bootloader locked.

I dont even need LTE, so theres no point in getting the S4 with LTE which is worse .. will it be released in time? Or will i need to pay full price?

No one can say for sure, but you'll likely need to get the 9500 from an online retailer or another carrier. Samsung has yet to put the LTE radio in its Exynos SoC (system on a chip - what powers the 9500) so that's not going to happen mid-release for the Galaxy S4. And its highly unlikely they are going to release an LTE-enabled one and non-LTE one onto the same carrier in the same market. That just creates buyer confusion.
Only thing is for you "best of the best" types, the octa will run on the arm 7 chip most of the time. So in reality the snapdragon version is better, unless of course you just get off on running benchmarks all day. The arm 15 is the best but what's the point if it never gets used? Just my opinion, I have no right to tell anyone what they need. I WANT LTE, but all I really need is a big screen, email and a decent talker.

I see what you mean, and I've been checking performance numbers of both the sxg 544mp3 and Adreno 320, and it's pretty similar.. so I feel pretty happy to get the 9505. It seemed great in the shop, far smoother than my S3, thanks for everyones help:good:
