I have an S2, and intend to get an S3 when my contract is due for renewal. However, having said that, I simply love the dualboot option that my S2 is having, and the great support that the S2 forum has.
Do you think that the S3 can go the same way as the S2, in regards to the dualboot option? Since root can be achieved without the handset, how fast do you think we can have the dualboot option, of course, provided that dualboot can be implemented in the first place.
Considering that the S3 does not have a locked bootloader, I'd say that it is very possible.

Yeah I loved dual boot on ny s2, I got an s3 now, and the app "boot manager" I use to dual boot my EVO 3d , isn't yet compatible, ...........but saying this, the way development is in s2 and the growth of development on the s3, it won't be long before its fully possible, simply using an app with root to do it is fantastic , go check out "boot manager" in play store and keep checking the supported devices list
Dual boot could be on Siyah S3 very shortly... Keep an eye on the thread. Take care

Hello everyone,
I have a few questions about your experiences with galaxy tab 10.1.. I am considering buying my first tablet and i have an option to get it from my operator for a reasonable price and with split payments (250 EUR altogether).. I am also interested in iPad 2, but i don't know if i want to buy another apple device and i would have to cash out at once which is the lesser option for me.. I have been a member of this community for a long time and it has helped me a lot, i have learned a lot, so i again ask you to help me with this decision .. i own a samsung galaxy s i9000 phone and am a big fan of cyanogen mod roms. If i buy the Tab 2 10.1, i'm not even considering using the stock rom.. Is CM10 smooth and usable? The most important part for me is Wifi and 3G, because i will be using it on daily train rides.. i also hate lag, like most of you so in all i'm asking you if you could point me to a video which showcases performance of an AOKP or CM10 rom and share your experiences and also opinions/alternatives (like if its worth cashing out for a note 10.1)..
Thanks in advance!
I use cm10 jelly bean 4.1.1 in my tab2 no problems at all and very smooth scrolling i use it as daily driver and ditched the stock firmware completely no return to stock cm10 implemented gooood in this tab do not worry you will be impressed

In terms of specifications yes much faster but one thing to check the presence of custom roms try to check if custom roms you like found for the device it is a new device so i think custom roms will come eventually but in some cases may be the developers do not like to develop for device so you will find a small number of custom roms avaliable or did not find roms that you prefer in device as cm roms check www.teamhacksung.org still no speaking about cm for note 10
Some people before buying a device check internet for presence of custom roms they like for the specific device before buying it
Check if their is a specific subforum for note 10 and read some posts about development in it before buy and search google for custom roms for it also see some youtube videos about device to have near full knowledge before buying

This is the unofficial thread to find the list of developers for the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
If you are a developer and or ROM maker/cooker would like to confirm that you are going to dev on this device please send me a pm, and I will add you to the list. In past experiences these types of threads have shown to be very helpful to build dev support for a device, and also to help people decide on a device.
What, actually is the list for?
Basically its for people and devs to see all the dev support the device will have. This sometimes is the deciding factor for getting a phone. If there's huge dev support more people will come. This makes it easier for people to find information on what devs will be supporting the note 2.
To pm me and get added to the list Click Here.
Let's make this Galaxy Note II community awesome!

Hi,
Thanks for starting this thread. I just want to ask "Do you think there be a lot of development for this phone?" Particularly for Note II, in general for future Samsung phones.
I just finished watching this video here or here and I just heard about some developers leaving Samsung altogether? Samsung locking bootloaders? Samsung getting too big for their own ego?
I currently own the Int'l N7000 and I found the development to be good for what I want. I didn't check out the i717 thread but I assume they are fair.
I'm not really experienced in rooting but I found Samsung Note to be fairly straight forward. I recently rooted an HTC Amaze 4G and the numerous steps plus the lack of info made me never to buy an HTC phone (even if I do like the HTC One X, my friend has the North American version and he said development is low there).
This is one reason why I'm holding out on the Note II until Feb 2013, maybe even Sept 2013 (in case Note 3) comes out because I want to see how the development plays out.
I know the phone just came out, but I assumed International Note development should be all hunky dory but I never know. Makes me not want to switch devices. I had an Int'l Galaxy S2 previously and development for that is great!
I hear Sony development is awesome. But then, I think I'll just go get a Nexus for ease of development (but the screen is so small!)
What do you guys think?

thanks leafsacc, I wasn't aware of this until now. I'm still not sure what's going on but I assumed there would be a way around a bootloader, as coders always find a way :highfive:
but reading the below, says it could have been verizon which was the cause of the bootloader, not samsung. so why is xdadevtv directing his video to samsung? is it because no open source was given for the s3? has it still not been released? will it be? anyone care to sum it up for some of us who aren't in the know? :>
Based on Samsung’s track record of always shipping devices with unlocked bootloaders, we can all safely deduce that Verizon is the one to blame here.

For starters cm will not support n7100 if samsung dont change their ways. atleast the current dev team in cm will not support newer samsung exynos devices. i9300/n80xx was the last. Only way to get n7100 supported is if samsung cooperate or a new dev join cm dev team.
Without cm support i cannot do my paranoidandroid from source as I do with n7000. Time will tell if some new dev join cm samsung team or samsung get their act together. Dont look good though.

Well I don't get it because it is sharing most of the hardware with S3 so the stuff should be at least ported easily.

You still need one of the dev maintaining exynos devices to buy n7100 and then maintaining it... we can hope for someone to step up but its their freetime and money. Entropy512 told me he would be buying at&t version which is nearly identical if samsung would change their behavior. All we can do for now is to sit and wait...

This is a great thread. I hope more chefs will chime in.
I am considering a Note II but it is absolutely vital that CM is developed for it, together with Paranoid Android. Especially since Key Lime Pie (CM11?) is be around the corner.
I also think it is important with AOSP/AOKP development for it.
So I hope the issue will be sorted during this month. If not, I am afraid that I have to consider a different game plan.
Buying a device without proper developer support is a no go for me.
For everyone woundering about my sources here is a statement from Entropy512:
Entropy512 said:
Not likely to happen. If CM comes to the Note 2, it will only be if a new maintainer steps up.
Most of the current Exynos maintainer team (myself, espenfjo, codeworkx) and others have all decided that our current devices will be our last non-Nexus Exynos devices. I'm not sure about xplodwild, but I have a feeling he's highly unlikely to take up another Haxxinos with the rest of us gone and given his prior experiences with it.
If Samsung changes their attitude towards developers, this might change, but their attitude lately (zero documentation, zero platform source code, a trend towards bootloader locking - Only the Verizon S3 has a locked bootloader now, but Samsung has had the infrastructure in place since the S2 and they are constantly adding more checks) has led to the current Exynos maintainer team deciding that enough is enough. I don't think any of us are going to do anything to make Samsung's Exynos devices more attractive to any particular market segment until they provide assistance (in the form of technical documentation and source code) in return. I don't know about the others, but if they offer me a free device I'll say no - I refuse to participate in a PR stunt like the I9100 donations were.
Pretty much the only way I'll go back is if I see reference platform source that is up to the same standards as CAF and omapzoom, or they actually start providing real documentation and source code for the devices I'm currently working with.

Thanks entwicklun,
I Googled "verizon locked bootloader samsung galaxy note" and from what I understand that it was Verizon's request to lock the bootloader. Not sure what I would do if I was Samsung but my guess is, if it helps sell more phones on Verizon then lock the boot loader. Money talks, right?
But then I'm hearing news about Samsung not giving developers this and that, just like the example below.

And I also need a phone that will have Paranoid Android (and the odd CM here and there), but it must also a 5" phablet. I guess there is nothing wrong with my current Note, but again by searching on Google there's a possibility that the "next big thing" might be the HTC Google Nexus X+. If that has an expansion card slot, that's it, I'm not getting the Note 2.

I've already ordered my note 2, but I would fully support the dev crew. even if that means selling my note 2 at a loss and buying what's being developed, pending though. I do like phablets and if the x+ doesn't have an exspansion slot then I probably wouldn't buy it.
I also hope aokp devs on the note 2. I certainly love their ROMS

Are noobs like me allowed to jump in please?
Utacka sir is so kind to us all in his PA thread
Anyways, I think devving for this device would initially start with kanged TW based ROMs. With CM wary on supporting the device, it does seem a bit dark but hey, I am sure there are others to step up.
But then again, you can never be too sure.

I am the same, an expansion card slot is a big plus.
development support is also a big factor.
I would flash aokp right now but i'm so scared of emmc bug (which I assume will not be in the Note 2 just like it did not exist in GB ROM Notes. But who knows if "Key Lime Pie/Kandy Kane" might have a similar brick bug) on ICS kangs that I just stay far, far, away.
My ultimate fav is CassiesXtraLite so it's good to see thering1975 on the list.

I might bring VillainRom to the Note2, but only if/when we can get our OTA update/optional mods app up and running to a high enough standard.
Would be nice to know for wich model is going to work each developer.

Well it's now 2013 which means new line of smartphones in the next few months, to temp us to upgrade from our 2012 smartphones.
I've had my S3 since June, & tbh I don't personally feel the need to upgrade it to whatever comes out soon, as my S3 does everything i need it to atm & i don't see that changing anytime this year at least.
Ok 4G in the UK from other networks will be out at some point, & at a premium rates for a while, so the likes of Giffgaff ect won't see this until probably next year, and 3G in my area is good enough for the moment.
I also personally don't think 1gig of memory will become a limiting factor, not this year anyhow on software, but i could be wrong if game developer's decided to get to best from this year line up of top smartphones.
Now there no saying i won't upgrade as im a sucker for new tech, but i do feel the Galaxy S3 is still good enough for this year at least.
So what are your plans to you intend sticking with the S3 for 2013 or are ya gonna go upgrade to the SIV or whatever else is out this year?
I'll upgrade. Not sure to what though
I'll upgrade for sure... S4 or Note 3.
Definitely upgrading

I will upgrade to S4 just to continue my collection of the S -> SIV and higher ^_^
i will upgrading S4 or Note3
i will not.
I'll be most likely sticking with my S3. Previously I kept my HTC Desire 2 years so I'd expect to keep it at least that long. In the end the poor internal memory did that phone for me. I don't have that problem this time so who knows I may keep it longer.

Yep, didn't realise how lucky I was because of the Nexus S helping with Galaxy S development. It was quite a shock with my S3 with how bad it was development wise. Next phone I choose, will be influenced heavily by how friendly it is for the devs. Touchwiz is simply not for me. Pure Android/Cyanogenmod is more up my street.
I think I'll pass SGS IV. I'm more interested in so-called X-Phones that Google will make. I know it's still just a rumor, but I can wait as I don't think SGS III will grow old that fast. It's still packing a very strong CPU & GPU.
I won't be upgrading as I will not be eligible for an upgrade until at least the end of 2014.

Hi prospective Note 3 owners,
Many Samsung customers and I had bad experience with the Galaxy S3 concern to updates and driver support (exynos one). Since I am a big fan of AOSP, I would be very interested to know how it looks this time or will look like. Moreover, how useful will it be on a device with pen and many android adjustments for it. I really hate touchwiz design, the darkblue and greenish interface. I think, it would be a more coherent feeling, if Samsung would have used holo design.
The question is, if cyanogenmod supports the device, will it get less problems due to the snapdragon 800 and qualcomm driver support? What about the camera and its image stabilizer?
I know it's a speculative question, so please no **** storm
Can't say about official cm / aospa / aokp builds but the fate of exynos is same as of s3/s4 unless.... Sammy follows what it promised to devs...
sent from the state marijuanated muffins are NOT illegal !
Man I really hope development is possible on this thing, moreover the VZW version. I preordered the device so I guess I have 30 days to decide.... C'mon devs, work your magic!!

I think the a time comes in a lifetime when... We the community stop DEPENDING!.........love the device. Root/ unlocking is so..2010 ...if it " comes it comes."
I decided I want this phone that's it.!
But ........................root is nice.
I'm deciding between the LG G2 and the N3 at the moment and I will not buy a phone that cannot properly run AOSP ROMs (like my I9300 S3 which has horrible battery life and flaky camera unless I use a TWiz ROM - and then I get lag, and **** RAM management/multitasking).
I'm presuming that the Snapdragon 800 version of the N3 will get lots of dev support and reliable AOSP ROMs?
This locked bootloader/KNOX business is a bit concerning though, I ain't buying anything with a locked bootloader, full stop.
I really like the look of the G2 and I'm unsure whether N3 is going to be too big for me - but it's hard to ignore that the N3 is a beast, and now there's a phone with 3GB of RAM I don't think I can buy anything less future-proof than that.

Only you can decide that. Look up the proposed features of the S5 and then see what the S4 offers and make a decision. I would wait until it is definitely known what the specs and features of the S5 will be because it's just speculation now. Also, do as much reading as possible. Just about any possible question about the S4 has been asked and answered, just use the search function to find those answers.
One more thing. If you wait for the S5, wait until the developers edition or GE edition is released. Maybe even get the International S5 version if it is proven to work with AT&T LTE (which it should). DO not get the carrier branded version unless locked bootloaders and bloat is what you are looking for. Also, look into the KNOX issues to see if it further cripples the phones ability to be customized. If it does, you will probably be better going with another brand. But, like I said, you need to read and decide for yourself. Good luck.
Personally I don't think it's worth the wait. As for the s4 it's a good phone but there are other great phones out at the moment. If I was in your shoes I would consider the nexus 5 HTC one and LG g2 as alternative options. There is the note 3 but that depends on if your willing to carry a 5.7 inch screen with you.
Also now that I've had the s4 for a while I honestly got bored with it. I was hoping 4.3 would breath life back into it but it's just about the same. As for safestrap it helped but shortly got bored with ROMs and went back to stock. For my next upgrade I'll try another brand.
interesting replys thanks for that seems like i got a bit of reading to
i was thinking of going for the s5 cause ive been more than happy with the s2 for the last 2 years and i would imagine the s5 when its released will be a full spec phone

Stay far away from the official ATT S4, they locked this phone down so tight, no custom Recovery, no flashing fresh new ROM's. It totally sucks, and is a very disturbing trend from ATT. Even the new Note 3 got the shaft Development on the ATT Note 3 is NONEXISTENT.
Even though I do love my S4, great smartphone, but if you get an MF3, or MJ9 version, your screwed.
If you got the cash, and want an S4, get the Google Play Edition, or find an International S4 on eBay.
I sure hope ATT isn't going to continue this in the future, locking down all new phones, and killing development ?
At least the ATT HTC One is totally developer friendly, it can be rooted, recovery, and S-Off no problem.
