I am in the UK and don't mind putting ICS on my Note but I don't care about Root.
I just want the latest firmware.
Is there an easy way to flash the phone without rooting it or changing the kernel etc? Thanks.

AT&T S4 with 4.2.2 MDL. I rooted it way back when. I have CWM recovery installed. No AT&T Updates have happened because they always fail At the same time what are my options for getting 4.3 or for that matter when 4.4 comes out?
I have bloatware still. Use root for backups and a few other root required apps. I've run custom roms before when I was on my HTC Evo 3D. If I install a custom rom will I loose my current root / status?
If you want a stock rom minus bloat...

I would use these as starting points because they're modded slightly and if you want more, explore other roms.
Make sure you update your recovery to avoid any errors in flashing. You can also flash to the latest radio and revert if it doesn't work for you.
You won't lose root. You already have recovery, so you can always get it back.
There are 4.3 custom roms out there, there are people who want an S4 that came with MDL. I'd flash a custom 4.3 rom. We can even ugrade (flash) our modems to MF3, MJ5, MJ6 and flash back to MDL without ruining the phone like those who took the upgrades prior to root and got screwed by Samsung.
Do some research like above and for gods sake dont unroot your phone and take any OTA updates or you will regret it.
Just my advice.
hi guys. i would like to root my nexus 4 preferably without flashing a custom ROM, but which way is easier and safer: flashing a custom ROM or just rooting with SU without flashing a custom ROM? i am a "beginner" and afraid of bricking my device. could you recommend be the best in your opinion rooting tutorial? i saw some on stickies but apparently they are from 2012. are they still relevant? thanks a lot!
you dont need to flash a custom rom to root your phone. your phone just stock and locked as well? there are couple different methods you can use to root depending on the current state of your phone (ie what version os you are running, locked/unlocked bootloader, etc..)
thank you for the answer
i am using 4.4.4 kitkat downgraded from 5 lollipop, so does it mean that my bootloader is unlocked? or not necessarily?
It's been awhile, and I'm not too clear on what I should watch for in regards to KNOX.... Getting it to the latest stock OTA is my main concern.
I have 2 in this state, the other I'm going to flash a custom ROM and bootloader, so... Are there plenty of stable full featured ROM's out these days? How about bootloaders? The forum doesn't seem as "updated" as usual (older device now, I know).
I'd like to be able to load a custom ROM on my MicroSD and flash it via the bootloader. What's the most stable bootloader/kernel combo around?
Can it is possible? I have official firmware of jellybean dwnlded from sammobile.
Help.!
Not possible as the Knox-enabled bootloader prevents downgrades. Even if you were able to downgrade, say by perhaps not downgrading the bootloader while downgrading everything else, it's unlikely the radios on the device will ever function. About the only use there is for such a downgrade is to carrier unlock the S4 using RegionLock Away, and even then you only have to flash a modem to do that.
Downgrading to Android 4.4.2 should be possible, if you really want to. I'd recommend flashing a custom ROM instead. All the custom ROMs, regardless of whether they are Touchwiz-based, GPE-based or Cyanogenmod-based, all include the battery drain bugfix that stock ROMs lack.
Thanks but i dont want now bcz voltaqe kernel has solved my problem i.e sound gain
Excellent! Good to hear you got things resolved.
hello, I have samsung S4 I9000 and I should love to unroot and flash a new rom. Can anyone point me the way to do that?
many thanks ,
Carl
Flashing stock firmware will unroot it automatically.
You cannot unroot and flash a new custom ROM. Unless you want to go back to stock and upgrade to latest stock update.
