Hi folks,
Am a proud owner of a new HTC HD2 device with ROM Version 1.43.405.1 (70124) WWE. The phone works wonders in all departments (calling, surfing, mailing, etc) but I have one issue since earlier today...
Situation: I installed the SWYPE software for windows mobiles. It is a great piece of software - really ask anyone who has used it - I got addicted to it within seconds to tell you the truth.
Issue: After successful installation and choosing SWYPE as the keyboard, the system works for a few minutes then eventually freezes and has to be reset.
Question: Anyone been through this mini-nightmare? I call it this because for a while I was very happy since my dream came true but it was short lived. Now I have to resist from using SWYPE and all seems ok...
Please do help me out here... I want to really start swyping on my new phone but there seems to be an issue that needs to be addressed
Is this a ROM related issue, a hardware related issue or a software related issue? WHat is the solution?
What software have you got installed on the device? Also have you installed Memmaid yet to auto clear your memory and notifications queue which can also cause lockups?
I am using Swype with no issues at all. Having said that I'm on ROM 1.48 but I don't see why the rom version should be relevant here (I could be wrong).
Will try and keep my eye on this thread but pm me if you need further help.
WB
Firsy and fpremost thanks for your super quick response.
Now, I don't use memmaid but CleanRAM, which works pretty well without issues. Not sure it's a good idea to use more than 1 memory management software. I've replied to your post using my hd2 but this time not using the swype software and guess what... no crashes.
I'm about to try and uninstal & reinstall SWYPE to restablish whether that helps...
I am getting occasional and intermittent lock ups which I have to admit I am attributing to Swype. I had it installed a few weeks back and had a few lock ups but until installing the sensitivity 3.2 CAB recently I found it hard to work with so took it off. The lock ups effectively stopped.
After installing the screen sensitivity fix I decided to give it another go as I liked the concept. This time it is unutterably brilliant, especially for longer and more complex words - staggeringly good...seriously. The speed I can manage is astonishing.
However, I'm back to experiencing occasional lock ups - perhaps one every two or three days.
I'm about to look at updating my ROM with a custom one and have no plans to ditch Swype.
I'm sorry I can't offer anything more helpful by way of a solution, but I can at least confirm that there may be an issue there. I'll report back if anything interesting happens post-ROM upgrade.
Hmm,
Don't know much about Clean Ram but I would advice a tool that cleans the ram AND the notification queues, etc.
Re Swype, are you sure you have installed the version for the HD2, ie WVGA? Also have you set Swype to be your default keyboard using a utility called Sip Change to be found here on XDA?
WB
Would really appreciate your posting the links to the mentioned versions of swype and tools required... I've just uninstalled SWAYPE and will install the correct version & required tools too as soon as you post the links and test the mobile out before going to bed.
Look in the Development & Hacking forum. Actually, better still, use this to search the whole of XDA...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=598952
Works pretty well. You are Looking for "Sip Change" and "Swype WVGA". If you can't find them let me know and I will see what I can do tomorrow.

Thanks for your feedback. We seem to have a few things in common. They include...
1. Installation of SWYPE resulting in freezing the HD2 (or lockups if you prefer)
2. Uninstalling does stabilise the device HD2
Well, as far as I'm concerned there might be a problem here, but then our friend wacky.banana confirmed that swype works well on his HD2...so why ont on our's?
I have a mission...getting to the bottom of this mystery...
I can confirm that swype work great on my HD2 also, I'm runniing swype, sipchange, sense & spbshell together, and though not really stable (a reboot every couple of days) works fine most of the time. The reboots are probably not as a result of swype, it just appears it's common with windows phones, and somehting I'll have to live with. Stability is a BIG issue, especially when compared to my old iphone, in 18 months that needed a reboot less than 10 times, the hd2 needs that or more in a month.
Ok... just installed the wvga version of swype one the xda site and this text is typed... oopsswyped using the software. Now all I have too do is play with the device and find out what happens next...
Will keep you guys posted...
Thanks for your reactions so far...
Alright guys here is the next installment of my monolog... lol
The tips by wacky.banana helped so far. I've managed to install the wvga version of swype followed by the sip change tool. The result is a greater degree of stability after an initial few minutes of nutty behavior by the device. Once I rebooted the mobile things stabilized.
The first battle has been won it would seem. Now we play the waiting game again...
All's well that ends well or a delayed case of disappointment? Only time will tell.
SlidezIT... Hmmm sounds like an option but before I embark on the adventure this is a demo version that dies on you (ends) after a trial period right?
10dulkar,
Now that you have got it working I strongly suggest that you invest in Memmaid to manage your notification queue. If you have any more strange lock-ups it will almost certainly be down to that unless you have installed some incompatible/unstable software that causes you problems.
PM me if you want to know how to set it up.
WB
E Nm,
Thanks for the tip/advice. Currently the device is stable with rom 1.43 (the original that the mobile came with) and cleanRAM works wonders; all this with swype installed of course.
They say, if it ain't broken don't fix it! Enough said really...
Thanks to you all your help and wish you ask lots of fun with you mobiles and a happy new year...
I have a problem with the Swype keyboard not loading sometimes, and also locking out the little keyboard button, so I can not change my input keyboard. NOTE - the phone is operational other than this.
I am convinced it is Swype causing this, as when I have TouchPal set as my keyboard I do not get this issue - however after using Swype, it's really hard to go back to a 'tapping' keyboard, it's so SLOW. Does anyone think installing SipChange will fix this problem, or are there any similar keyboards out there that challenge Swype?
Swype is a bad idea in general for the HD2. I'm completely locked out of mine and can't even do a hard reset.
That's probably due to you installing leaked versions from other devices. You can register for a Beta release of Swype on their website, as I think they intend to release it soon as a standalone app.
i got the us hd2 from tmo which comes preloaded with swype and i can say that texts in general seem to be an issue but mostly when swype is turned on.
if i get too many texts at once and try to use the messaging app it can freeze up sense but i am able to get into the start menu.
sometimes even if just one message comes in if i type to quickly with swype it does the same.
im blaming the combo of swype and the sense messaging app
Freeze issue cause
Strangest thing.
I too love swype.
I've tried TMOUS 2.10 stock, Duttys, HTC-like swype, PPC Geeks TMOUS extracted swype.
All give me issues of freezing etc, especially when in text msgs.
HOWEVER, in TMOUS stock rom, when frozen, if I take out the 16Gb sd card, instant unfreeze???
I put in an older 2Gb sd card, and no problems!!!
Deleting application data on 16Gb sd does not help.
Am doing more experiments.

Swype is amazing .. when it works.
i have tried the v2 version and experienced issues with camera (which i can only assume are because of swype as i havent had the issue since not using that version) which stopped the cam from initialising then eventually cam resetting to defaults?? with low res and white screen when taken a picture - since no solution was available i had to hard reset (this happened about 4 times)
i then installed (and still use) the version 3.9 and the camera issue no longer exists however a really annoying bug occurs sometimes the keyboard takes a long time to work, if i go to reply to a text and the convo is quite big, swype will not let me reply untill its fully loaded the texts (im assuming this.. its very similar to what sms txting was like b4 the sms fix update) if i switch to any other keyboard i can type fine , switch back and still have to wait.
i heard SwipeIT was almost identical, and thus went and bought it (maybe i should have tried the demo) and im not impressed, swype is far superior. im used to doing the loop for repeated chars and you dont do that on swipeIT (if you do it gets confused) , swype gets 99% of what i type and swipeIT seems to not understand more than it does. however swipeIT does not have the bug for sms convo replies so i keep it installed (that and i payed for it so its staying haha)
i accidently installed v2 of swype yesterday when i hardreset and tested the sms and was so happy that the bug was gone (As i didnt realise it was v2) , im tempted to put v2 back on and risk the camera bug
rant over ha
As posted on my blog: http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/68/AutoClosePatch_1_0_released/
Updated to 1.1 on 24 February 2010
AutoClosePatch
Some devices, especially the new 2009 Omnia series from Samsung do not have a lot of memory available. Some of these are also configured to use rather aggressive memory management. The result is that you can hardly start any amount of applications (3 or 4, usually) before the system starts to shut down already running applications, while half or more of the available physical memory is not being used at all.
What AutoClosePatch attempts to do is hook into these memory management functions and beat them into submission, preventing them from doing anything we have not explicitly told them to do.
Of course, we do have to have automatic application closing functionality so our devices do not get stuck in a low memory position, so occasionally we let the system do what it wants within specified parameters.
Note that this patch was specifically written and only tested on the Omnia II (I8000), but it should work on many WM 6.5 devices. This patch does not need any of the other changes mentioned in various MoDaCo threads and is compatible with TaskMon!
Also note that the system is not always very smart, and in my experience tends to close the last application I openened instead of the first.
Beta
Consider this a beta version (even though it is a 1.0 release). Several factors come into play and operation cannot be guaranteed. Works great for me, though!
I take no responsibility for issues that may occur, at all. If your dog explodes due to using AutoClosePatch, tough luck.
Settings
By default, my Omnia II starts closing apps when available memory drops below about 30mb, and doesn't stop closing apps until available memory has risen above about 45mb. As I start out with about 50mb of available memory this isn't very handy.
AutoClosePatch's default settings are to not start closing apps until available memory drops below 15mb, and to stop closing apps when available memory has risen to above 20mb.
The "Ultra" variant lowers this to 10/15, but has more chance of showing you an 'out-of-memory' dialog.
Installation
Install the AutoClosePatch CAB. If you want to play with the "Ultra" variant, install the normal version first!
Soft-reset after installation
Uninstallation
Simply uninstall the CAB files if you are not using the "Ultra" variant. Uninstalling will clear most settings but not some system settings. These changes aren't harmful, but you'll need to hard-reset to clear them up.
Soft-reset after uninstallation
Technical
Skip this part if you're not a techy
The whole thing is done through run-time patching, this means no files are modified on the device itself, only in-memory.
Some system calls are overridden / intercepted in shell32.exe, and depending on actual memory state WM_CLOSE may be re-cast as WM_HIBERNATE.
For the new 2009 Omnia series from Samsung TaskMon.dll is also patched, disabling it's application closing functionality. All other TaskMon functions should remain fully operational. In essence, only the standard WM application closing functionality should remain functional.
The low memory boundary (when apps start being closed) can be configured through the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Chainfire\AutoClosePatch\CloseStartMB
The high memory boundary (when apps stop being closed) can be configured through the following reigstry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Chainfire\AutoClosePatch\CloseStopMB
You must soft-reset after changing these keys for them to take effect.
Also note that if you are going below the default 15/20 value you must install the "Ultra" settings first.
Furthermore, if you are playing with very low settings (and are thus using the "Ultra" settings) make sure to NOT set the CloseStopMB value above 20!

looks pretty cool
my omnia should arrive sometime next week, will definitely use this.
thanks !
does not really work for me, whenever i get to 10mb of free ram, all applications get closed ...
khomen that should be fixed in 1.1
Works with Omnia B7610 but with a bug
When memory reaches 24mb down (in my case 24-18mb) you cannot open anymore applications/programs,and those that were opened (16 apps opened with 24mb left) even the task manager cannot be opened, so soft reset is needed to close all... Though system apps (those in the settings) still open and run.

Works great on my omnia i900!
Just what I needed!

Hi Chainfire,
Donation sent to keep your research on.
Thanks very much.
Thank you so much.
I found this thread from WinMo and is now going to give it a try.
Thanks again for your work!
Not working?
Hi,
This is exactly what I am looking for, but it does not seem to work on my devise TP2, the programs still close randomly...
I try to run the regular and ultra manually, I do not see any loaded progam (I guess that is normal since it leaves only the dll), but I do not see any entries/changes in the Registry?
Please help to make this work or propose another solution.
THanks,
Hi Stephane,
personally I switched from AutoClosePatch to EverApp (see http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/291321/app-everapp-v0-2-application-persistence-under-wm6-x/ for details).
It is working more confident for the case that you have individual apps that must not be closed when running in background (apps like countdown-timers, SIP-phones etc.).
This is good.. i thought closing down apps is a problem of Omnia pro only...
With this patch, my Omnia is very powerful again as my previous Touch Pro..
Thanks a lot..
Im trying it on my Omnia II now and its look really good
Thx for it!
i always have out of memory crash
Thanks for your great work. But i have a doubt:
Is there a way to exclude only one App from being closed?
I really like the autoclose function, it keeps my mobile working correctly all the day, but I'm working with my mobile ERP all the day long and i don't want anyone to close it...
thanks!

This sounds great, but, does not work on my Omnia Pro B7610...
It installs correctly, but i get something like that after soft reset:
An unhandled exception occured at $000115E0 : EAccessViolation : Acces Violation
$000115E0
$00011818
i wish U could tell me what's wrong... i am using FluidX ROM based on 6.5.3 i guess...
Hmmm. Not really. The only idea I have is that maybe you have no .NET Compact Framework 3.5 installed. You can download it from Microsoft. If this does not help you may ask your question in the developers' thread at http://windows.modaco.com/topic/291321-app-everapp-v02-application-persistence-under-wm6x/.
Hey,
Is there any way you can change the OS from Windows Mobile to another OS? I love the HD2 but it can be really sluggish at times that I can only assume to be the OS. I'd love to put Android on it but apparently its not yet been done.
Is there anything else it can be changed to or any way to speed up the phone as even with no background applications running it can slow right down when navigating the phone or writing a text etc
Thanks
If you'd done a search you would've had an answer already, no, no android, as of yet and probably not.

Have you looked over at custom ROM flashing in the ROM Development forum?
One thing alot of people who have not used a phone that actually Multi-Tasks, seem to miss ...
If you are running an app, hitting the home button does not close the app, it is still running ...
The HD2 and WinMo can really run lots of apps at the same time, and if you get way to many running the phone can feel sluggish ...
I have a friend that has an HD2 got his when I got mine, I got it all slimmed down for him with a custom rom , he still complained about it "Slowing Down" ..
He came from an IPhone, so every time he wanted to leave and app he just hit the home button, the other night he was complaining about his phone being slow I checked the task manager and he had 9 apps running , including 2 games(memory hogs) ..
Even if you do not do a custom rom, at least install a good task manager something like ArkSwitch or along those lines ...
hi yall,
i bought the phone used, and its running 2.2.1 froyo, ever since i got the phone last night ive been here reading everything about it, since im new to android, its very confusing for me.
(1) i wasnt sure if it was rooted, but there was a superuser icon in the menu ,so i went root it again and did allow non market app from super1click. when it was doing allow non market app, the phone frozed , i had to just take off the battery for it to restart, then did the allow non market app again, it was fine the second time. after this i found that the phone is very slow for 20-30 sec when just turned on. perhaps it has nothing to do with rooting and allow non market app, the phone is just like that. anyways is this normal? would rooting 2 times make it slow after power on?
(2) im very interested in installing the MiUI or CM7 to my bravo, i have the factory usb driver installed, and the phone is rooted . what are the other steps to get it work?
i would really appreciate if you have any input,
thanks in advance.
Ok. Get you started then you will need to get what is called the LIFESAVER to me. The Stock .sbf file for just in case times. Next before anything else you need a program called RSD LITE. It's made by Motorola (correct if wrong). On your phone you'll need an app called SndInitDefy_1.4_2.apk. Put it on you mem card and install it on your phone (you did push the allow non market apps button in S1C right?). Then look around for the rom you want to use. Myself and several other people are working on a CM7 rom for the Bravo with a working STOCK camera. The easy fixes are using another 2 or 3 camera apps. After all said and done follow the instructions on sndInitDefy_1.4_2.apk or 2ndInitDefy_1.4_2.apk whatever the name is in the app drawer. After that put the rom you want on your sd card. Not in a folder or anything just the card. Reboot into 2nd recovery and wipe your data, cash and dalvik, then install the new rom. NOTE: Most issues occur because you didn't wipe. NOTE 2: You have to use the Vol. UP and DOWN on the side of the phone to select things and the power on the top to do it while in 2ndInit.
And if you would like to know I was writing this on 2 hours of sleep like 24 hours ago while drinking cold coffee and eating something I can't figure out what it is but reminds me of tacos and nachos. Back of fridge find.
Forgot about your first question, sorry, I haven't really noticed any speed changes before or after root to me. Could be another app you have that runs at boot? If you have any troubles just PM me and I'll get to ya. My major project went to the back burner for the moment. I do have an app for you if you want to try to get a little more speed out of it. Like I said just PM me.
what are the apps that increases speed? is there any way i can delete the junk apps came with the phone? there are 50 of them more than 40 is useless. lol
thanks a lot for taking your time responding my post, i do really appreciate it.
after i run launcher pro, the phone have a speed increase, faster then before. everything is normal now.
i noticed that there are a lot of versions of RST lite, i gusse i should have the latest one. right?
i kinda need the camera for school projects, plus there are still things i need to learn about so i will be doing later, i think pretty soon you guys would know how to make the stock camera work, lol
I use RSD Lite 5.0. Google it and it's easy to find. Camera issue has work around and to rid yourself of the bloatware you need to be rooted (which you are) and look on the market for an app called SuperManager. It may have alot more than what you need but it's free. When you install it open and go to it's settings and mark the box for root. Then you can use it to uninstall your bloatware. I would keep google maps and the navigation app though. I've never had a use for any of the news, weather or news & weather stuff. Just slows your phone and uses your data. If you want a true FM Radio for your phone see below. It's a little better then the AT&T Radio. DO NOT UNINSTALL ANYTHING THAT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE AN APP! You will see things that seem like doubles of stuff. FM Radio is one of these. One is AT&T's app the other is like the driver for ANY FM Radio app to work. Just let me know if you get stuck. Also here is a great overclock app. Don't go over 1 ghz for too long though. Stock is 800Mhz. It's not made by myself.
when i tried to scan the barcode and download overclock and FM files, it keeps giving me a message of
Download unsuccessful
Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone
i downloaded the files to my computer, everytime i try to put them in the phone by usb cable it shows cant copy, i must did something wrong.
oh, BTW the supermanager is awesome
The old school ways still work for things like this. Take out your memory card and just copy files to it with a card reader. You might have filled up the card already? I can't put anything else on my wifes card but she just has a 2gig. She has alot of music and the videos are taking up alot of room. She's still stock but she does use overclock and undervolt to get a little more speed and save the battery. The QR codes I don't think they work for everyone. Search the market for an app named "Sideload Enabler for Bravo". It's free and so you can make sure you can sideload apps. Gives you the checkbox under settings too! + in my book. Can't remember if it requires root or not..... I'll post the link in a min.

what about the German language
very very nice ROM
humm.. I think you'll have no choice of using Elelinux rom to have multi-language support like I had to do for French due to it's rom based Decked_X who is just available in English..
I have been using this ROM for a little while now and find it to be both fast and stable. A really great job by the developer 1ceb0x, for which I would like to express my thanks.
One small issue I have yet to sort out and that is one of awful keyboard lag. I use Handcent SMS for messaging and am wondering if anyone else is using this app and suffering the same problem? I haven't worked out if it is just this app, or a combination of this app and the installed keyboard yet, but if anyone else has had a similar experience that they have managed to resolve, or can suggest tweaks to try I would be grateful to hear. I really would like to stick with Handcent, if possible.
For anyone who has not tried this ROM, I would recommend they do; it really is a great everyday ROM.

As far as I know, the keyboard lag should be gone in the latest version which is 3.5. However, it was only tested using stock keyboard and stock mms app. If you are having low ram, this could be your problem (or an app is keeping your cpu at 100%) - though the first issue should not occur because the kernel is tweaked to kill apps when mem. is lower than 60 - so basically you will always have 40-50 mb free every time.
Thank you guys for your support and for using my rom, it is really a great pleasure to see how many users have it as a daily driver. Thanks again!

I am writing mainly in response to a post by buba_shrimp in the development forum (I do not have sufficient privileges to post there), but also for my own benefit, as I am seeking assistance for the same issue.
In the early days of having my Hero (stock rom) I found GPS to work flawlessly, up until passing the installation of any google maps release past 5.5.0, when bad things started to happen. I have stayed at this release ever since.
Just prior becoming Shpongled, GPS became a nightmare; tried all sorts of stuff, but nothing seemed to help. I came to the conclusion that the hardware was failing and left it as that. That was until the day that I maintained the gps config file from US to UK/European server settings and lo and behold not only did the phone lock my position lightning fast, but all the other problems vanished too.
On moving to this rom, the first thing I did was implementing my replacement gps.conf and continued to get excellent gps performance – most of the time.
The phone now seems to operate in one of two modes; it either gets a good lock in seconds and performs flawlessly, or the gps connection circle spins for and age followed usually by the phone rebooting itself (I think just as it seems to locate its position, though I’m not quite sure just).
I have posted earlier that I am getting bad keyboard lag too, but now realise that this is a hit and miss affair also, as I only get this some of the time.
Anyone have any idea as to how I can debug the phone when it is experiencing these issues, e.g. any free logging tools or other such monitoring software that may help? Or, suggestions as to things I might try? Was glad to see buba_shrimp was suffering a similar problem – not in a gloating way, in a problem-shared-is-a-problem-halved kinda way.
Regards

Regards

Get ADB, plug your phone into USB, enable USB Debugging on your phone, type adb logcat into your PC's command line and you have debug

I know how to do this, I just don't have the experience to know what I should be looking for.
Ideally I was really hoping for, I guess, is that someone else has suffered these same issues and has a solution.
My question about usefull tools was along the lines of some sort of app that records resource usage over time, to allow for analysis of conflicts, or similar. Anything like this exist? Or is there a better way? The adb logcat is a little too low-level for me I think, unless someone can help me with pointers as to what I should be looking for.
Thanks folks.
Very nice rom, very fast, but .. (sorry for lang)
every app or game in my Hero lags in fews minutes with error " [Application] is not responsive " .. only thing what i can do is tap " Force close " button .. so each game is not playable (gameboid mainly), or i cant read comics, or whatever else ^^ any solutions?

it is a great expense to import the German language in the ROM?
I would like to have it in German.

It would need to be build from source to get german language in it. So yes, it is a great expense since it needs:
a powerful computer
time
space
i'm so sorry for not being able to provide you guys this rom in other languages. i know i have lost some of you because of this issue but i cannot do anything for it. i can build it from source in a way or the other but it will loose the great speed of decked_x base rom.
thank you for using it thought.
Very nice from, I have the stop responding error too but works clicking wait lets me continue without losing anything.

Do Shpongle ROM need swap partition on SD card??
Just a little question: what kind of partition do Shpongle ver 3.7 need on SD card??
I mean: is it necessary to have a little swap partition (60-120MB) ?
PS: version 3.7 is really strong, but I'm waiting for a next and better release
Dont use swap partitions...

In the last release of Elelinux it is required a swap partition greater than 60 MB and an additional Ext4 partition (maybe for app2SD..??).
I know that Shpongle ROM is not Elelinux (there are differences, I suppose), but.. is there any reason for not to installing swap partition or it's just your personal experience??
Thanks..
It's just slower on every rom, based on user and dev opinions...
How can cyanogenmod and cronos have multilanguage support but not Shpongle?
Have they written the rom in every single language?
