Since my short time of owning a rooted HTC Panache (myTouch 4G), I have been having intermittent touch screen sensitivity problems, most of which are found either when typing on a keyboard or when unlocking the phone.
I'm not entirely sure about when the problem started, but I think it was when I first flashed an ICS rom (Zips Creamed Glacier 3.11). From that flash onward, every single rom I install will have keyboard and lock screen sensitivity problems, including Gingerbread and ICS roms.
The only exception that I seem to have noticed in this problem, are on Sense roms, specifically SmartBeat Venomous 2.0 (Sense 4.0A). I haven't seen the insensitivity problem at all on the few days that I used that rom. This problem doesn't seem to show up on stock Gingerbread (Sense 2.1) as well, although I can't confirm that as I can't stand staying on stock firmware too long.
Would anyone happen to know why this problem shows up all roms that I have installed following my installation of an ICS rom?(possibly, but not sure if Sense roms could be ruled out as well.)
Thanks for the help everyone.
EDIT: I also wanted to mention that my physical screen also periodically clicks when I put pressure on it, like it's falling into place from (possibly) being elevated from the digitizer. Maybe just a bit of added info to take into consideration.
Doesn't anyone know what could possibly be the problem with my phone?

it was a design flaw. The HTC Sensation had the same problem. It involved something with grounding. Here's the Thread with the issue you described. Apparently Stock Sense(MySense) does not have this issue

i have been using my htc hd2 since 3 months now ... installed various custom roms , many of them ...edited the registry ...installed so many tweaks ...reduced senstivity , even tried the android desire keyboard ..by booting android ...but the KEYBOARD is so inaccurate ...its so pathetic ...i have used htc desire ,nexus one , HD mini, and many other phones but the keyboard is very accuarate ...i even tried resco keyboard, all other additional keyboards ..even calibrated my screen ...but i think that there is some fault with the HD2 touchscreen ! ....any other solutions ????
You must have a defective handset because all keyboards work perfectly on my HD2.
R u 100% sure ? ...because i have heard at various places in the forum that the keyboard has some of its own defects due to super senstivity of the touch screen !
I have no problems at all with my keyboard, and my fingers are not tiny. I haven't installed anything to improve the accuracy of the keyboard.
omg ...thts bad ..very bad ! i will have to get it replaced under warranty then

I can only speak for my own experience, but yes I'm sure. I don't have any problem with it and I quite like the sensitivity of the touchscreen.
Maybe you could use Swype keyboard? I also frequently upgrade with Energy's latest roms.
even i update to the latest energy rom ....currenty i am on the 8th july builld ....according to the replies it seems that the only way is to replace the handset
Try screen calibration
There is a tweek in the sticky to enable the screen calibration routine in settings (normally not visible), you might be able to fix it. My experience was that the cal seemed slightly left and down (or my finger was slightly right and up;-) and this fixed it.
I have changed 4 hd2's and i have passed from the most android handsets in the wild.
I'm back to hd2 (guess what, i hated galaxy s' plasticky construction and desire's small and difficult to read characters -due to pentile technology- screen).
So after six months since i sold my last hd2, now it's the only one device that i can type as accurate as i want.
A major reason that i have left hd2 the last time was exactly what you mention.
Typing inaccuracy.
But now, i am not sure if it has to do with better hardware or the evolution of the latest custom roms (i have installed energys gtx themed rom, day one) but the handset listen to my taps much much better (almost as a desire and a little bit behind the excellent in that area galaxy s)...
Typing accuracy is improved if you turn off the vibration feedback
on the keyboard and sound in the dialler
there is no way to disable vibration feedback on the energy rom ???? if u know can u temme ??
I've tried a lot of android builds whilst the development has been going on and found that Bangster's 1.4 coupled with Michy's R11 was the best for me with regard to screen sensitivity and keyboard accuracy.
I recently had a dabble with m-deejay's next-gen builds Desire HD/Z etc (which are excellent by the way, credit to him), and found that I was getting a lot of screen bounce, missed button presses and a very frustating keyboard experience (Hastarin R7.1). Pressing and holding the delete key for example would result in keypresses bouncing all over the place, sometimes several keys removed from the delete key. I tried a plain Froyo Sense build and found the same thing, although not quite as bad.
So, I decided to try the bare kernel from Michyprima's R11 (AXI, Desire, OC) on my current Froyo Desire build just to see if it was down to the kernal 100%. Instant bounce removal... keyboard is accurate and now when I press & hold on the home screen, I don't get the screen wobbling from side to side as the software thinks that I'm moving my finger around rapidly.
To recap; it seems like I was getting more bounce with Hastarin's R7.1 than any other, but certainly Michy's R11 (Desire based) is making my phone usable again. It really was bad before.
More messing required methinks... I may re-load the Desire Z build on to my SD card and try R11 to see what it's like. One thing I remember is whilst trying m-deejay's Desire HD 3.1 (which had an Evo kernel IIRC), keyboard bounce was almost non-existant. It wasn't until I changed to D-HD 3.3 that the keyboard became a pain to use (Hastarin R7.1).
Hastarin if you read this, please note this is by no means a dig, I have the greatest respect for all the guys posting builds here, these are just my obvservations.
As with all things Android/HD2 related, YMMV. Your thoughts are welcome.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I've taken a couple of quick videos of m-deejay's brand new 3.4 Desire HD build showing this phenomenon (kernal is huanyu's #21). Replacing the zImage with Michy's R11 virtually eliminates it.

Could this be Windows ROM related? Might flash another WinMo ROM to see if it's any different.
Edit 2 Sent my HD2 back to HTC today, hopefully for TS replacement... see relevant post here.
Edit 3 Received my HD2 back from HTC's repair department. Problem fixed. No more bouncing Relevant post here.
No-one else with similar experiences?
Me too!
previously was using M-deejay's froyo sense 2.2 and the keyboard was a great improvement from my old stock HD2 Windows keyboard, which was oversensitive and jumps alot, making typing a hassle. I did not have any problems with the froyo sense 2.2 keyboard, it was accurate and sufficiently responsive, and even have my essential chinese input.
However, after the 2.4 version was released, i updated it, and noted that the browser's bookmark crashes. So i though, why not give EVO Sense 1.6 a try?
Btw, i did not realise any problems with the 2.4 keyboard, so it's probably as good as the 2.2 version.
Then i ran EVO sense 1.6, and i feel that the keyboard is different. Firstly it's the additional arrow buttons below, which is useful, and more like the original HD2's keyboard. Then it also has chinese input.
BUT i experience alot of the "bouncing" problems, if not more than my original HD2 windows rom. tried calibrating a few times, and deleting the calibration, but it doesn't help.
i want to emphasize again i am very grateful to all the developers like M-deejay, Hastarin, for developing all these builds that are effectively working. this is likewise, just my observation.
Anyone else? I can't believe it's just us two!
Videos added to 1st post.
I tried to replicate your problem (m-deejay's Desire HD 3.4) but I coulnd't. I also thinkg that the keyboarad its not as accurate as some of the builds but its not that bad as yours.
I'm sorry to say but the lag with the keyboard kinda looks funny
My keyboard isn't very accurate too. Sometimes it just takes the wrong key. I mean when I press the backslash it takes "m" or something although i was pressing backslash. This was on Hastarin 4.1.
But it really seems to be kernel related. With the r11 my keyboard is okay.
I don't think is caused by the WM ROM, but which one do you use?
have the same prob!
yep...and I get phantom touches also.

Thanks for your reply. However, my screen isn't defective as I don't have this problem in Windows and using a different kernel fixes it.

that's great my friend
Well.. i have the same thing in hastarins latest kernel
I dont have this on DesireZ out the box.
I have MDeejay's latest Desire HD build and have this problem, how do I fix it? If I need to replace the Kernel how do I do it? What side effects will it have?
Thanks in advance
keyboard bounce also experienced by me when i am trying to type fast, using hastrin r7.1 as well, maybe is caused by the touchscreen delay?
have you tried keyboard calibration?
in the setting menu ..
it ask you to type that ..lazy brown fox jumps..
it helps me alot.. well some of it i guess
and also try the schrub bartome build. the keyboard is perfect-iphone like. im using this build for day use
I experience the same issue with the new kernel releases. But with hastarin #3 the touchscreen works normally.

Before it was way to sensitivty anyone notice with 2.3.4 this problem resolved?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
well, i do find the difference with touchscreen, its pretty smooth in 2.3.4
That's great to hear. I'll wait until supermantel releases his new rom and then I'll enjoy both worlds..

Actually I like the sensitive screen. I think it's really responsive and works well.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Yeah, I just flashed 2.3.4 yesterday and I was noticing the change as I used it today. I didn't mind the way it was before, but I've always been pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be like that. I agree with ctai that it was nice in a way; there was a certain elegance to it that a practiced hand could practically operate the Nexus S without ever actually touching the screen. Still, it contributed to annoying mis-presses, and for those that use certain keyboards and typing styles it made for a very frustrating experience. All things considered, although part of me will miss the super-sensitive screen, I think this fix is for the best.
no change that is noticeable to me
it still responds just as good as before
I'm using NSCollab 1.0.35 based on cyanogen and android 2.3.4
I continue to suffer touchscreen responsiveness problem. randomly (I appreciate specially when use onscreen keyboard) doesn't respond..
I recently became a big fan of the galaxy tab and purchased two for my family and talked another two of my friends into getting them. We've all noticed an issue with the touch screen AFTER updating to the overcome firmware (both 1.6 and 2.3).
I've done tests with the stock at&t firmware and then also after flashing to overcome. Seems there is something in the kernel that changes the sensitivity of the screen so that it over-registers the touch.
Let me say that I'm aware how unscientific my test is but I've done it so many times on different tabs that the results that I've seen is very consistent. You can try also to see if your tab has the same issue.
Download the app called Sketcher from the market and select the Simple brush. Draw horizontal lines starting from the top down. With the overcome kernel, the lines are extremely jagged especially on the left side. On the at&t stock rom, the lines are almost perfectly smooth.
This is noticeable through daily use too. Just hold you finger down (preferably on the left side) on the stock browser and you'll see that the screen twitches.
I wasn't sure where to post this but hopefully one of the rom developers can take a look into this.
Please see attached pictures to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
There's probably a way to adjust the sensitivity but I don't see any apps in the market that allow this.
Theres an app in the market call, touch screen sensitivity booster (something like that) only problem is, that you need to apply the "settings" every reboot.
The problem here is that the screen is too sensitive. Actually I'm not sure if it's a sensitivity issue or something else but it is definitely a widespread problem that affects most if not all tabs running certain custom roms.
No need for custom rom with stock gingerbread, in my opinion. When I was on froyo I tried the overcome kernel, videos on native player was choppy at times. I didn't have this issue with stock kernel. So now I stick with stock rom untill we have a fully working cyanogenmod.

Are you sure we will have it?
I'll be typing along, and one letter just won't register. I hit it over and over again really carefully and it simply won't type. All other letters around it are fine. Then after about 10 seconds it will work. It's any letter, not the same one. This is on stock or Thumb Keyboard.
I'm on Virtuous Unity 2.39 on a Mytouch 4g.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
Was just about to make a thread because I've had this issue ever since I rooted (which was right after I got the phone.. so since pretty much I had the phone), and it would go away after I flashed a new rom or changed the keyboard, but it ALWAYS came back.
I'm using the latest MIUI port on TDJ's kernel, but it's been happening for every build. Also happened on VU and CM7. Is this just an issue with the MyTouch?
This issue has already been posted..

I got rid of my MT4G because of this reason. Was so annoying.

I flashed Virtuous Unity 2.39 last night and the problem has intensified. It happens more often now. Just came from spending two weeks on CM7.1 with ADW Launcher Ex and it didn't happen once.
I've tried every kind of keyboard and it's actually somehow getting worse.I'm not really sure what to do. My phone isn't able to type more than two or three letters without freezing up on the keyboard.
