Google Voice bug with Galaxy Note. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hi.
I use my Google Voice # as my primary contact point.
I have noticed that Google Voice does not seem to integrate well with my Note.
Specifically, even though I have settings set to receive Google Voice SMS via messaging app, it does not do so.
I can only receive them via Google Voice app. This is not ideal solution, anyone else have this same problem?
I have assured settings are correct both online and in the app. I had no problems with HTC EVO 3D.

Let me clarify how google voice works. you can:
a) forward the GV text to your real phone number as a cellular SMS.. it will appear in the messaging app.
b) deliver the GV text via the data network to the GV app as a text.
c) do both
d) do none..check it online
What you cannot do is receive a text (delivered via data network) in the SMS messaging app.
The SGN seems to have dedicated inboxes for everything and the messaging app seems solely for SMS and MMS (which GV texts are not).

I know how Google Voice works. My issue is that I've set the notification settings to receive GV SMS via messaging app (GoSMS being my preferred solution in this case) and I am not receiving any notifications.
As previously stated, I had no issue with my HTC EVO 3D using GV and GoSMS in tandem. Hence my assumption that this is a bug with the Note. For the record, I'm on CheckROM v6.
As also previously stated, I've double-checked that my settings for GV online and in app are correctly set (I also use my GV # for sip voip).

I never knew it was possible on other Android phones to use the stock messaging app to get GV text's(unless you are having GV transfer them to your real number via the normal text root)
I just use the GV app, I find it just as good as the stock messaging app....if not a little better.
Though, I am 100% google voice with GrooveIP for calls and GV app for text's since I use a iPad Unlimited SIM card.

I see exactly the same as you, but i don't know that i would go so far as to say its a bug..To me it simply looks like the N7000 messaging app is for cellular sms, mms only.
If you, like I have, have set in GV for SMS messages to your GV number to arrive as GV app messages, then they do not arrive in your phone as true SMS.. they arrive as a short formatted message over the data network...
comparing to other phones really does not apply.. my prior phone was a BB and so the integrated inbox was the bomb.

This works fine on my phone.
So, three things:
1. If you send a SMS from GV to your phone's physical number (or an sms from anyone else directly to your phone), does it arrive? If your sms service isn't working. . . then you have other problems.
2. There is a difference between notifications and actually getting the message. Check your sms app for messages. If they are there, then change the settings in your sms app to notify you when they arrive.
3. Check your GV settings online to verify that forward texts to phone is checked on your phone. Do you have multiple phone numbers associated with your GV account? Could it be possible that GV on your phone is confused? I changed sim cards once and had to sign out and sign back in to GV and reconfigure the phone for things to work properly. Have you even tried doing that to make sure it's not some weird configuration issue?

You may have a great understanding of how GV works, however you have not explicitly stated whether, in GV, you have google voice texts forwarded to your phone number..
If you do not have this forwarding, then you are receiving texts via the data network and you will only see them in the GV app.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm in the exact same boat. I did discover that when I set up GV to forward calls to my TMo prepaid number, texts are also forwarded properly. When I forward calls to my google chat (which sends calls along to talkatone on my phone, which is the whole reason of GV for me) it does not forward texts over SMS, they are only sent as data to the GV app.
Texts work if I enable forwarding to BOTH numbers, and i can choose to answer calls through the talkatone app, but the standard dialer shows up and gives me a missed call notification, so it's not an ideal set up

And T-Mobile hasn't been especially helpful.
I don't know whether the limitation is intentional or unavoidable due to the network (for example, you cannot integrate GV voicemail services with T-Mobile prepaid).
I agree, it's not an ideal set-up. The GV app has too many kinks and it isn't the most intuitive experience for calls (I use sipdroid/exdialer anyway to bypass the app) or texting (I prefer GoSMS).
The only positive is that I know SMS to my T-Mobile # are important and GV notifications I can safely peruse at my leisure. =/

Sprint+Google Voice Integration = Success!

So, I got the 'preview' Email yesterday informing me that I can get early access to this.. Think of it as being a beta tester. Anyway..
I went ahead and did it last night. I used my current Sprint Number and overwrote my existing GV number. It seems to only bind your Sprint number to Google Voice as some sort of "smartbind" or "software bind", but not like I thought it would. This is by no means permanent as you can easily "disable" it without hassle. MMS works fine (for those who choose to use their Sprint number as GV). No, they doesn't show up in GV Inbox, but you can send and receive MMS the same as before. I'm sure Google and Sprint will figure out a way to integrate MMS as well, then that horrible Sprint PictureMail website can finally RIP.
However, If any of your friends are bound to GV, be prepared to receive messages from their GV even if you send SMS messages to their non-GV number. So, if you don't already know someone has GV, you will get messages from a GV number and will probably wonder who it is.
Example:
I send a message to my friend.
She replies, but the reply comes from her GV.
(at this point I got confused because I didn't know she had GV)
I send another reply to her mobile #.
Replies still come from GV.
I decide to just send replies to GV.
Other things to note:
-If you choose to overwrite your current GV with your Sprint GV, your current GV number will expire in 3 months.
-You can have it ring to your Google Chat if you're on a PC. Awesome! This opens up a number of possibilities maybe.
-For some reason, I can't figure out how to get the Google Voice App for Android to notify me of Voicemails only. I set it up to send me a text message when I receive a Voicemail as a workaround.
For those who want to try and keep their current GV rather than replacing it, try this.

This is a limitation when using apps such as Juice Defender. This is a primary reason why I am so excited to finally be able to use regular SMS again as it doesn't rely on data. I can also use the custom SMS apps such as GO SMS and Handcent.
I am eagerly awaiting this integration as I have been using GV as my primary voice # for over a year now and I did not get in the beta.

Yes, however, you will either need to enable sending voicemail notifications to text so that you can call your VM, or use the Google Voice app for your voicemails (it doesn't support sending vm notifications, only "new items" which include sms/vm) so using text nofications along with the app is the current workaround.

I would love to see them integrate GV into the native SMS app. It only makes sense on android....

My biggest question is does it use your cell mins.
Example, my friend calls me from his cell. Is it still counted as mobile to mobile? or does it go to google and then my phone and is billed as regular landline mins?
Mobile to mobile. Your sprint number becomes your gv number.

It still relies on your Sprint plan. So if you have expendable minutes then yes, it will be used.

I have been using my Sprint # as my GV number for several days now and so far it has worked as intended. I am still able to use my native text app for those that think you cant. To use the native text app you just make some setting changes in GV.
I tried it and don't like it so far. I tried the option to use google number as sprint number because I paid for it awhile back, I like the number, and I don't want to lose it. I think that google should allow you an option to keep your gv number, even if you make the sprint number the gv number, if you paid for the gv number in the first place. If you paid for it, they shouldn't throw it in the pile to expire in three months.
Fortunately if you pick the same option as I did, the use gv number as your sprint number, you can back out and make them separate again without losing the google number. Nothing happens to the sprint number, as far as I know.
Something that still seems unclear is if doing this integration makes people with mobile to mobile have to use their landline minutes, even if they are talking to someone on a mobile, because they are going through google.
I posted my questions and findings in the epic forum awhile ago. I'm not certain if choosing the google number makes all your calls route from sprint to google then out or what. I don't remember making any calls to see if the lag issue still existed or not. I don't know if there might be a call routing problem sometimes like there is when using separate numbers and making a call but choosing the use google voice to make the call from the gv app. No use in asking the sprint people about this because you will probably get different answers. Also trying to search google help for voice is like the needle in the haystack thing.
Ok, here's some tests I ran and my results. If you can try these yourself and see if you can get different results by trying different things, things I might have missed, please do and post your results.
The first test I changed my google voice account so that my google voice number was my sprint number. After restarting the gv app as instructed, I lost the ability to do some stuff. The choice to use, or not use, google voice to make the call is gone. I wasn't able to call anyone at that time to test if there was lag in the audio or not. I tried sending a text from the stock app to my sprint number and it went through and showed my google voice number as the originating number. The text went to the stock app, but I don't remember if it went to the gv app or not. I sent a text from the stock app to my gv number and the message bounced back to the stock app and gv app. I tried sending a picture from the stock app to my sprint number. It acted like it sent but I didn't receive anything. I tried sending a pic to my gv number and nothing received also. I don't know if it actually went out or not. I didn't have anyone to send a pic to to tell me if they got it or not. I was trying this late at night. I don't know what would have happened if someone called my sprint number if the phone would still ring or not.
I went back into google voice on the computer and changed the settings so that it wasn't integrated anymore. I logged out then back in with the gv app on the phone. The choice of using gv to make the call came back. I sent a text from the stock app to my sprint number and it bounced back like expected. I sent a text from stock to gv app and it bounced to the gv app as expected. I sent a pic from the stock app to the gv number and it went out but never came back as usual. I sent a pic from stock to sprint number and it bounced back.
What I am guessing is that, from my experiences, you can't receive attachments if you make your gv number your sprint number. Like I said, I don't know if the attachments are going out or just acting like they are. When numbers are separate, pics bounce back when sent from then to my sprint number.
Unless someone finds out something different, or google fixes stuff when they make it live, I will be staying with separate numbers and conditional call forwarding and being able to hide behind my google number when calling people I don't want having my real number or I might want to block them some day. There's been word that mms is either in the works or done with google voice, it just hasn't been officially made live or an updated gv app that allows attachments yet.
I will wait and see what happens. Like I said, maybe I missed a setting somewhere? I don't know. Everything looked okay in the settings on the google voice account on the computer.
I tried integration again with gv number being my main line. I tried calling my sprint number an it rang through so no problem there. I didn't have the ability to test mms but I did read on one of the gv help pages that if you send a sms with stock app, it will show your gv number. If you send a mms, it will show your sprint number. if someone wanted to reply to a sms you sent with a mms, then it would fall into the black hole. Apparently if people want to send you a mms, they must send it to your sprint number. This is certainly a pain for anyone else to remember. In my opinion, this integration shouldn't have happened until mms was introduced and integrated.
If you run separate numbers and conditional call forward to gv for voicemail, like I do, then there's no difference that I can see with the old way or new way. It just seems like a different way of getting the same end result.
From what I've read, If you make the GV number your cell number and someone sends you an mms, it goes to your stock reader. Since your gv number is now also your sprint number, it shouldn't matter...unless I've misunderstood.
Wasn't this supposed to officially roll out today? I still get the $20 fee, or is that always the case?
This whole google voice thing with sprint is making my head hurt, hopefully I can get some clarification here.
I jumped on board with google voice the first chance I could. I have a google voice number, and that's the number I give out to EVERYONE!
My wife is the same way, hell, she does not know her Sprint phone number.
1) Can we make the google voice number our "sprint" number, and still keep all the benifits of the google voice number (calls from GMAIL, ringing different phones, ect)?!?!?!

Google Voice my new Messaging app? G-Voice Integration

So, I recently activated the Google Voice + Sprint integration and certain things about it are absolutely awesome. My only gripe with it is that all text messages are now coming in to my G-Voice app and ignoring the default messaging app on my phone. I can reply from my Messaging app and it shows up in G-Voice but new texts that come in skip the Messaging app completely.
Has anyone found a way around this behavior? G-Voice app is a nice-enough messaging client, but by no means ideal.
That's the reason I de-integrated.
There is a fix I will post back when I'm at a computer.

not an expert, in fact, i use my evo as a wifi device only. But im somewhat certain that you can edit these settings while you are logged on to google voice on a computer.

Only issue is that you will have to maintain two different numbers...your Sprint number and your GV number.
Set up you can set up your GV as your voicemail...by having conditional call forwarding on your phone. Do believe I set it up thru Sprint directly...having the call forwarded to my GV number if the phonecall goes unanswered. From there the rules are set thru GV as to which outgoing message to play depending on what number is calling.
Haven't had a problem with getting voicemail at all.
Messaging can still be done thru your sprint number (using your or whichever messaging app) and you can still txt using GV (but it'll be thru your GV number)
Um in the Google voice app in setting u can tell it too send sms as a text to your phone. Doing it right now and turned off Google voice notifications for sms

All you need to do is go into the Google Voice application, go to Menu, Settings, Sync And Notifications, and take the check out of the send text message box.
Next.
Log into your Google Voice account on your computer and then click on teh gear icon in the top right hand corner of the page to go into your Google Voice Setting.
Click on the Voicemail Tab and then under the section "Voicemail Notifications" take the check out of both boxes.
You will now no longer receive text messages when you get a voicemail on Google Voice, but you will receive a notification on your phone just like Spring VVM use to do.

I think you guys are missing the point. There is no way to separate sms from GV after the integration. You can enable the standard sms app on your cell phone via the online GV settings. Problem with that is you will get 2 notifications from every text received - one from GV and one from the sms app. There is no way to remove notifications from the GV app for sms only.
To make use of the stock sms app on your phone log into GV online, then goto settings> phones> and click edit under your number, then select send texts to this phone. Still you have the issue I noted above.
No you don't. First you change the GV via your browser as you instructed. Then, in your GV phone application you uncheck All boxes in the Sync and Notifications section of the Settings. My phone is behaving as it used to prior to integration. I feel that it is important to integrate in case I want to use my number on someone else's phone, internationally, etc.

Yes, the same way Sprint's VVM currently does, I'm doing this now on CM7, Google Voice is integrated to work that way, when I get a voice mail I don't get an SMS or an email, it just notifies me on my phone in the notification area, does this on a standard EVO rom also.
Just follow the directions I laid out and it will work fine, I've tested it.

Oh, so it notifies you via text. that's still kinda annoying. Yiu have to open the text to find out you have a vm, and then open GV to get the vm. I just turned off notifications in my sms app instead. That way sms goes to high the sms app and GV, but I'm only notified by GV.

I understand your gripe .... I found it rather annoying as well, so I went a different route and removed GV all together.
When I thought about it there was no point to having it. Instead, I go into the GV app, and select to forward SMS to my phone. I then tell GV to forward VM notifications to my email account. Basically it's the same net result: a email is sent with the transcribed message and a link to play back the voice mail. As a final fix, I made sure the messages went to Gmail so I could tag them and thus easily filter my voice mail.
I would love if GV could notify of voice-mails only ... that way SMS would get forwarded to my SMS app without appearing to get received twice, but I couldn't find an easy way to do that. The other method of turning off all notifications ends up sending a text notification which is not as clean to me IMO.

So my phone stopped receiving calls (would ring on the calling side but never rang on my side) and texts. Tried everything and decided to give up and disable this merge. Figured it was too unreliable to be worthwhile.
BTW, what happens if you have cell reception but no data reception? Will your phone not work? That's dumb if that's the case.

So not installing the app and using your phone like normal except for getting an email pushed to is clunky please explain. Intregation wasnt meant to be mind blowing on a device that already has that number but using your sprint number on your house phone and texting people from a tablet with a number they know

Can I ask why you think google voice is a voip that,last sentence you have reads like you have no idea what this service is about.
Google voice will not make calls over 3g it will send sms over 3g but only.in.the app you can have sms sent to you just like you always have and not need to use the google voice app.

It's clunky because I have to open the email, then click the link to download the voice message as an attachment via the web browser, and then open the attachment, which is played with the music app. It's clunky when it takes 3 apps to do what can be easily done with one app.

Debate Visual Voicemail V.S. Google Voicemail!!!!

Ok I am going to start some crap!!! Keep it civil of course I want to hear from you guys which is better for you.
Pros for Visual Voicemail.
1. Allows you to keep you custom ringtones for text messaging.
2. You get your messages via sprint visual text message app and email.
3. Does not interfere with your voicemail message box set up.
4. Does not require background data to be on to receive messages saving tons of Battery life.
5. Allows you to receive your texts through you text messaging application.
Cons for Visual Voicemail.
1. You can not keep track of your voicemail text message with one application.
2. Does require a data plan for text messages.
3. I don't think the application does thread messaging.
4. You can only save your message for 30 days I think?
5. Cost $1.99 per month.
Pros for Google Voicemail.
1. Slick interface one shop for text message and voice messages.
2. Intergates with google voice.
3. Sends voicemail to your gmail account.
4. It is free!!!!
Cons for Google Voicemail.
1. Required data background on to receive messages.
2. Interferes with text messages so they don't play through your text messaging application.
3. No individual customizable ringtones for text messages.
4. You have to set up a voice message through google voice and manage your account online.
I personally like Visual Voicemail better than google voice. If google voice did not require us of background data and if it had customizable individual ringtones for each person especially text messages I would like google voice better.
I'm using Google voice for my Voicemail only right now. I don't use the Google Voice app. I prefer it over Visual voicemail because of the transcriptions. I use Handcent for SMS so I still have custom notifications for voicemails.

You can use google voice without it interfering with your native sms app. You just have to set it to not use your number as your google voice number. (I think you have to do this online) You can still use the google voice app and have native sms.

Ok, this may sound stupid, but what do these bring to the table, over the standard free VM/Text Msg app included with android
Is it simply the VM messages are typed out for you?
Or is there some major advantage to be gained, by using the free google or the paid visual VM
I may get a VM once every other month or so, so I just dont use VM pretty much at all, most of my friends have graduated to the 21st century and use texting over VM, so if I do get a VM, I know it is probably not anything I care about.
I use GV and I get both vm and txt through the stock messaging app. I don't use the GV app at all

I use Google voice to sent and receive text messages at work so I'm not on my phone at all.
I use it also for voice mail transcriptions but I only get voice mail about once a month.

I recently installed Google Voice to integrate with my Sprint number, and now all my texts go to the GV app. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to make the texts go to my messaging app (Handcent). I tried calling Sprint, and they had no clue. Could you (or someone) please post some specific instructions? Thanks in advance.

Can you post the google voice so I can download it and use it. I believe they only have the google voice application on the android market. I can not find google voice only the google voice application on the android market place.
If you log into it google voice account from a pc. I was able to force the messages to forward to my phone and see them on my regular messaging app and turn off notifications for gv texts. But then my gv app still showed all the texts. Kind defeated the purpose.

Just uninstall the gv app. It sends the transcripted voicemails tour your stock sms app. Since sprint converted to GV you dont need the GV app

In my opinion I live the GV intergration. Ive been able to get rid of two apps that constantly run in the system(Visual VM app, and a call blocking app). I get all my txt and vm's sent to the stock sms app and I can txt and call from my computer. It also has call blocking which our phone is missing. If you intergrate your number it allows you to do all this, but if you dont and just want the extra number you have to keep the apps.
I used Google Voice for just over a year for the voicemail...I liked getting my VM's transcribed, but the quality of the transcriptions was often nearly on readable.
I've recently switch to using the Visual Voicemail included on the Epic for 2 reasons:
1. The Google Voice app seems take up an inordinate amount of resources
with the background service it's running.
2. The transcription quality seems to be much better.
(even for some of my friends who have thick accents )
So I guess my opinion is I'll give them to $2 a month if the service is reliable and quality.
The GV integration will be great if they deduct the charge for txt from my sprint bill, they integration isnt so clunky, they get VVMs transcription engine (not that I use it). Just seems sprint dumping off resources onto google and still charging us for them. One advantage I thought I had was to be able to get txt thru wifi via GV, but this doesnt seem the case... like I said, clunky... but I will love for my sprint bill to go down... yah, like they would do that. Plus Google needs to ditch the white backgrounds, I know theres custom apps, but by default the most annoying scheme? I think google stuff will be great, if it gets off the ground and sticks... then they can really invest time and thought into it...
If you already use Google Voice for a seperate phone number for business, you can't set up seperate outgoing messages. Visual Voicemail without the stupid texts that are always soooooo wrong is free. I was happy to see it supplied with EG22 again. If they were able to seperate outgoing messages for those calling your regular Sprint number from those calling your Google Voice number I would only use the one app. But since they don't use both voicemails for 2 numbers.

I don't have my Sprint number integrated, but this is how I stopped the text forwarding to Google talk when it started happening on my phone.
1) Log into you Google Voice account on your computer.https://www.google.com/voice
2) Click on the gear in the upper right hand corner and then click "voice settings."
3) Click "edit" under the your phone number.
4) There should be a "text setting" with a check box next to "receive text on this phone." Uncheck it and click save.

You need to go into the settings. And put a check on send a text to your number and un check send email so it will send the vm to your stock msg app. And I get my txts just fine in the stock app so I'm not sure about that

Thanks, that helped. What's interesting is I had to reinstall the Google Voice app to tell it not to synchronize inbox. I guess it leaves a setting somewhere other than the app data.

If you use sprint google intergration with your sprint number it will interfere with text based location services such as lookout mobile security as th text is sent to a web text server and not to your cellphone. Think of it like outlook email when you setup sprint google intergration in that all your text and voice messages are stored in the g cloud.

[Q] Google Voice (0.4.2.66) sends texts through default messaging app?

I purchased the N4 today from T-Mobile and upon restoring my apps I noticed that there were at least 6-7 updates for different Google apps, Google Voice being one of them. I was happy to see that considering that folks who already had the N4 reported it being broken on 4.2 and I don't pay for a text messaging plan with GV. I ported my number to GV a few years ago and while I love the flexibility there have always been some bugs depending on the device and build and a lack of updates that make it less than perfect.
After setting it up which happened without any errors or crashes I was pleasantly surprised upon my first incoming text message and clicking the notification to find that I could see an android emoji which the native voice app doesn't support. Also the threaded conversation looked different and then I realized.... texts were coming through the default messaging app as opposed to GV. Fired off some new messages and some replies and sure enough recipients were seeing my GV # as opposed to my sim #! Opened GV and found the each new outgoing and incoming message there as well.
Can any other GV users confirm this?
I use GV for texts as well. This would be a great concern if it send through the standard SMS app/Cell number. Once i receive my gnex i will be testing this

I'm in the US and under what's new it list:

It doesn't make any mention of what I'm describing about the default messaging app. If you're using GV to avoid paying for a text message plan and are incurring charges because of this new change you'd want to know. In the US we get charged for incoming and outgoing.

You might want to check if your google Voice's setting is setup correctly/changed. If "Receive text messages on this phone" is not uncheck, you will get text in defult text app ON TOP of get on in GV app also. Just a guess, N4 not here yet.

Nailed it! I got a new number and did the set-up from the app instead of the Voice Portal. Thanks for the heads up that was it!
Yes i can do that on my gnex but then it uses the random google voice number as the number in the stock messaging app. Is this what you guys are getting or does it finally fully integrate?

Can some more people confirm that this is working? I am trying to decide on whether to port my number to GV or to Tmobile prepaid.
I have one other question as well. Is it syncing with the contacts actual number or does GV still assign your contact a new number through GV?

OK, my problem is the voice update is requiring me to send a text through ATT to set up voice. I have texting blocked through ATT.
Any one know a way around this so I can use voice for texting and voicemail again???

I'm in the same spot -- getting ready to switch over from Verizon to Nexus 4/Straight Talk and would like to port my number over to Google Voice, but I really dont' want to unless the whole thing can be seemless (Phone and Text). I don't really MMS, so that's not much of a concern.
My thought at this point is to get my Nexus 4 (ordered, just waiting for delivery), install the newest Google Voice, and run some text tests with a friends phone to see if my current Google Voice number (not ported, but shouldn't matter) displays properly using the deafult text program on the Nexus 4. If (and when) all of that happens, I'll be sure to post an update here...
Everything is working as it should. The problem I experienced was because I got a new number and did the setup from the Google voice app instead of the web portal. The app doesn't give you all the configuration options such as not sending text messages to the phones default messaging app. Do your setup from voice.google.com and you'll be fine. Also if you're new to the service you can verify your number with a phone call instead of text message shouldn't be an issue if your plan has no text messaging.

I received my nexus 4 yesterday and google voice started up just fine. completely separate from my regular SMS 'Messaging' app. I haven't tried GV voice mail taking over my regular one yet.

Yes, you can send text directly through the default messaging app using your gv #. If for instance you have the gv web portal option set that sends your incoming gv # texts to your phone, opposed to just the gv app - it works as traditional carrier texting but with your gv #. This is what confused me in my original post.
Like most who port their cell numbers to gv I don't pay my carrier for text messaging that saves me over $200 a year, I use the gv voicemail as well. The gv app uses data for messaging and you can't send mms. I typically just hide the default messaging app in the launcher because any texting from it will cost me. I'd prefer to use the default app, it definitely is a better ui but again if you use the default app you'll be charged by your carrier.

[Q] Google Voice won't relinquish my texts

I've used Google Voice for voicemail for quite some time, and recently decided I'd try out the feature to let GV handle SMSs to my regular T-Mobile number. Big mistake. Now, I can't get texts to not go through GV, even if I set the option "Receive text messages" under "Sync and Notifications" to "Via the messaging app". GV still intercepts them, and no other app can see them. For a little while yesterday, if I texted someone from my normal messaging app (Sliding Messaging), their response would come from a number that didn't belong to that person (and was different for each person who texted me back). How can I undo this colossal mess that GV has made of my texting??
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No difference.
1. settings > Apps > GV > Clear data / cache
2. Uninstall the app
3. reboot
Now I just don't receive texts at all.
I just tried re-installing GV, and immediately got two test texts I sent to my self from my wife's phone. They came to my regular texting app and through GV. *sigh*, it looks like things are still not working right. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Well this is strange. It seems my wife's iPhone had seamlessly started sending texts to my GV number at some point, so all my test texts weren't really testing! Thanks, Apple!

She needs to manually change the number the next time she composes a text and it will remember it from there. Either that or delete the entire messages string and start a new one with your carrier number.

I deleted my GV number from my contact on her phone and made a new one with just that number. Texts from my carrier number still went to the GV contact. Do I still need to delete stuff?
It's unclear what you're saying. You are texting carrier to carrier with no GV number on either end right?

That's what I think I'm doing. I send a text from my normal messaging app, which doesn't know about GV (as far as I'm aware - there's nothing in the settings about it). It comes in on my wife's iPhone from my GV number. She responds in that thread, it goes to GV and I don't get any notification.
Unless you're using cyanogenmod with voice+ enabled or are using another app that hijacks native sms with gv, that should not be happening.
There is some scenario where GV will rewrite the number, but I can't remember when that happens. At the least, I don't think that's the case here. Either way, you can goto the desktop version of the GV webpage and goto settings->calls to fiddle with rewriting IIRC.
But again, that sounds extremely unlikely. What happens if you text somebody else..

Hmm. I am using CyanogenMod, so I might have poked that setting at some time.

Uh huh.
Voice+ catches incoming GV SMS intents, then prevents GV from announcing a new SMS while downloading the text via GV HTTP and sending it to the regular sms on the phone. Likewise, it catches regular outgoing sms and diverts to GV.
You'll still need to have the GV app installed and configured but it shouldn't ever alert, and instead let you text natively or using whatever other sms client.
