This is an excellent Tablet my only CON is that the Screen is not as nice as some of the other tablets are but the Tablet is excellent and i got a Report from Acer the other day telling me that the ICS update will be available in the middle of April
Acer told me that ICS update will only be available for the A500 not the A501!

Are you seriously basing this bold assumption on a random post from an anonymous source?
Keep up the good detective work buddy.

According to Acer web page there is no update planned for the A501
Update for the A500 is TBA mid April.
What is TBA?
To Be Announced
or
To Be Available
Acer web page
http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answer...sion/L3RpbWUvMTMzMjg5Njg5MC9zaWQvUThEdkJhVWs=

That depends. Usually it's To Be Announced.
But since Acer already officially announced the update for April it is probably To Be Available this time...

I don't know the sales figures for the A501. But since the only differences between the A500 und A501 are the 3G features, I doubt they won't release an update for the 501.

If you noticed. I did say 'apparently'. I haven't assumed anything. There are also 2 other factors:
1. It says no planned update on the Acer website.
2. When the latest HC 3.2 update was in the works the A501 update seems to have been leaked before the A500 one.
If you don't have anything constructive to say why bother.

I guess they will release it when the remaining qwirks are ironed out from the a500's users feedback, they surely don't want to break something that may put them in trouble with contracted carriers.

Contract /carriers
I do believe that ,well in the us anyway acer has a commitment with AT&T OVER the 3g capabilities in the a501. it could be similar in other countries. As well as the laws in those countries apply as well.
Anyway I WOULD PUT PRESSURE ON THEM and on the assigned carrier your tablet was locked to.. Make the complaints to the point that YOU DID NOT KNOW UP FROM YOUR DEVICE WAS LOCKED TO A CARRIER AS YOU BOUGHT IT off contract. this has worked for people in the past getting there device unlocked and may help get the official update. Just be Polite but slighty pushy and do NOT Take no for a answer.
Good Luck. Start a protest and pound there facebook site.. Been there done that.

Knowing how unreliable customer service reps, he's probably citing the A200 update, which is already out and has no real clue what he's talking about.

i know thats why i asked about a501 repeatedly

I saw. Trying to get real information out of a CS rep is like herding cats. They don't know, even when the information is publicly available.
As for the no A501 update, maybe the "No update planned" means that, well, they don't actually have a plan for it yet. Not that they won't. If they don't hopefully CM9 or some ICS variant will help you guys out.

I guess you're right. 3g baseband connection is a nightmare, as you're practically dependent on what the baseband manufacturer does... if they don't give you the specs you're screwed. By the way, the communication protocols to the baseband FW tend to be somewhat over-complex, too, to make reverse-engineering harder... Its going to take time, always did and probably always will, so be patient.

But I don't wanna be patient when the guy next doors playing with his shiny new toy..... Wheres mine....

Over on the Acer Aus/NZ facebook page one of the Acer chaps said tha A501 ICS release date will be in June.

Very nice. If so that since now buying any of Acer devices is not planned. This brand is not exist for me anymore. Bye Acer

I do admit, news like this does make my decision to get an A501 a week ago seem a bit of a waste. I guess sticking with 3.2.1 for now will do.

Good info Roger!
Lucky i got extra protection warranty from Harvey Norman - i'll use it just for this purpose alone!

Yes, but for A501 or A500? The A500 is flagged to get it from this month on but haven't seen much for the A501....
Remember, the monkeys at Acer support seem to tell you conflicting info depending who you speak to and when....

its quite sad actually, considering that the LE SGT 10.1 Google I/O already has gotten the official update...
:|
Yeah, if we get it.
What's the reason that we wouldn't be eligible for the current update. My 10.1v device looks pretty stock, but I've noticed other people talking about having access to samsung app store which my tablet definately doesnt have. I thought the software was basicly the same on the devices.
Can anyone explain the actual differences that result in the 10.1v not being able to get this recent update.
Sent from my GT-P7100 using XDA App
the other thing to keep in mind is that the 10.1v is a 3g version while the 10.1 is a wifi. once the 3g slim 10.1 is released we may see the 3.1 update. lets hope its soon

hope u right dude. coz it looks like a crap. all tablets with honeycomb 3.0 already have an upgrade to 3.1, EXEP US! who can answer me this question ? Vodofone? dunno. Sumsung?- no idia, looks like they forget about 10.1v....
What I care more about is, when will we get the source code for the device kernels. So that we can actually change the CPU speed and make a blazing fast device out of this damn thing.
I called a few days ago Samsung support Benelux (Belgium Netherlands Luxembourg).
The man on the phone told me 3.1 is comming also to the 10.1v but all he could say was "this summer".

yes but samsung provides the updates. vodafone only test and approves it.
Indeed it's not easy to get an answer. Vodafone refers to Samsung and they refer to Vodafone.
Like I said someone from Samsung Benelux support told me "this summer". This can also mean september. We will see, but don't count on getting it before august. Thats my feeling.

The reason you haven't gotten it yet is because it's being released in regions, the US being the latter. Just manually check for an update it 's been popping up around the US more as of late.

Acer Iconia A500 ICS Update Confirmed by Acer

Many people by now have seen the ICS Leak posted by vache i have already tested out it runs smooth everythin works except some apps that are not ICS supported but everythin else is great. Today i checked out the acer site and saw a press realease sayin that the Iconia Tab A series was confirmed to get the ICS update as well as the A500 but we will have to wait until the month of April for the update to roll out. It will include a customized unlock ring and better UI. I was so excited to hear this and i cant wait for the month of April to pass by.
Here's the link to the press realease: us.acer.com/ac/en/US/press/2012/33015
We've known this for weeks now. You might just as well read the forum before you post...

I agree as this would be the first confirmed by Acer release. However, if you root your device before the OTA, I'm sure the devs will just base a ROM off of the complete version. But IIRC rooting ICS with our current methods like Gingerbreak and the like don't work....

ICS Chat w/ Acer tonight...

Here's a chat I had w/ Acer this evening. Looks like US release should be between the 19th and 27th...I hadn't seen a set of dates like this thus far, so I thought I'd share... Love my FlexReaper v11, and I'll wait until Civato does something with the full release, but hopefully this will fix some of the very last bugs, (GPS etc.) that we're still seeing. Names changed to protect the not so innocent...
Thanks!

Confirmation
Ok so I've been trollin' Acer pretty much every day for the past 4 or 5 days, and finally got someone on chat to give me specific dates as well
The rep I got confirmed the 19th-27th timeframe that the OP posted, so it's looking more likely I guess.
Here's the chat for those that care, names hidden obviously:
AcerRep: Hi, my name is AcerRep. How may I help you?
ohlin5: Hi, do you have any idea when ICS will be released for the A100 & A500? Something more specific than "TBA Mid-April" maybe?
AcerRep: I will provide you the details.
AcerRep: By validating the SNID I see that your tablet is covered under standard limited warranty.
AcerRep: ohlin5, if my understanding is correct you want to know the release date of Ice Cream Sandwich, am I correct?
ohlin5: yes please
AcerRep: I understand your concern.
AcerRep: I will do my best to resolve the issue.
AcerRep: May I confirm that you are contacting from US?
ohlin5: that's correct
AcerRep: Alright.
AcerRep: The release date will be on 19th April - 27th April 2012.
ohlin5: Ok thank you very much!
Kinda wanna stick with HoneyComb
I've Been waiting a long time to get ICS but now I'm not even sure if I want it.
I don't really like the roboto font and some other elements of ICS.
I guess there'll be some good ROMs to come from the update though.
Thanks for the confirmation Ohlin5.
@a_rocklobster: Should be some great ROMs, I've been using Civato's leaked ICS ROMs for my 500 since the leak a month or so ago and am very happy with the progress the DEVs here have been able to make without Acer's help, when Acer actually releases and releases the kernel the work that will be done I'm sure is going to be Fantastic!
