For the first time in years I've had to block someone from calling my cell phone and I'm curious what this person will hear when he calls my number. I know I could easily test this out by blocking my house's number and trying it myself, but for whatever reason I'd prefer not to do that.
Do they get a message from Sprint saying their number is blocked? Do they just get a default "the call cannot be completed" message? Something else entirely?
Note: This is a number blocked in Limits & Permissions on the Sprint website, not through an app or Google Voice or anything like that.

That's how I felt initially, but after blocking this guy for months and then removing his number from the block list yesterday (figured he would've given up by now and I don't like the idea of having special settings on my account to deal with one jackass) I already have three missed calls from him.
I figure he would've gotten the message but I guess not, hence I'm wondering what he was hearing all the time he clearly tried to call while blocked.
block yourself from a number you can call from and let us know!
Hahaha I have soo many blocked numbers in my sprint account, being 20 and me being gullible to pyramid schemes led to that though lol

Nope. Block everyone if you'd like
Probably directs to voicemail but the voicemail is auto trashed? Why did this person keep calling in the first place? This is kind of messed up and you should maybe take legal action...

Actually, there is a limit of 50 numbers according to the web site. Quote:
You can block inbound and outbound calls for up to 50 phones numbers. Enter each 10 digit phone number below or quickly add numbers you've previously blocked by accessing your archive list (archive list numbers will be saved for 90 days). Archive list - showing the most recent 100 entries.

I have been curious about this as well. I recently got a new number, plus this awesome Epic4G. Well, the number must have been recently recylced. I would get 10-15 calls a day for the number's old owner. Some of the people called back after I told them their friend had a new number. It has been a month and I still get 3 or 4 calls a day. So now I block those numbers.
You are not authorized to make calls to this number by the account holder. Message 19.

Tbh, best way to block, gather a couple balls. Answer. Tell that person you no longer want to talk to them, and to leave you alone. Make it clear that if they continue, you'll take legal action against them. I think honesty is better than running away from the problem by "blocking" a number. If you're going to take that route, you may as well change your # altogether.

You can't have legal action taken against someone for just calling. They have to be threatening or harassing you in some way. You could argue the numerous calls as harassing, but it's a slippery slope. They might just say why don't you block him? lol
Just like private numbers. You cannot get the police to give you the number to someone who is *67 you constantly unless they are threatening you. I don't even think harassing applies because it isn't serious enough of an offense.

just got off the phone with Sprints Advance Tech support.
i was asking them how to uninstall the Amazon MP3 app.
the answer came back NO. even if they did a hard reboot its in the hardware and Sprint can not do nothing about it.
here's the set up. i don't listen to music and have only turned on the app MYSELF twice. once to see what its about and the other to see if i could uninstall it.
this program also turns itself on a lot AND I DON"T want it to do this.
NEXT
in the setting under the Applications i saw that it was collecting and keeping DATA. so i erased the info and to my surprise when i called Sprint and looked at the Data it had recorded 20Kbs of info. the only thing i did was use the phone. Does Any One know what kind of data it is collecting. my fear is it is keeping data on my phone calls?
Sprint could not answer that question and i waited inline for 15 min on the HTC tech line before i could not wait any longer.
i also found when the battery runs down the battery info will pop up. in there i looked through a few things and found some apps running even after i turned them off. i selected the Amazon link and i seen that i could uninstall from there. i selected uninstall and it said i could not uninstall the app.
my feeling is HTC gives me no choice in uninstalling a BUILT in APP that is collecting DATA on me is not in my best interest. i will be calling my lawyer monday - but i am seeking your help in understanding what kind of data is amazon collecting. TIA
hahahahahahhaha
they're probably recording all your phone calls...just my 2 cents
Sorry to hear about your idiocy. Hopefully it gets better soon.

Paranoid much? If don't like it root it. If you don't want to root it, then buy something else. Calling a lawyer because of an app is ridiculous, all they are collecting is information whether you are logged into the Amazon store. Every smart phone on the market has some application you can't uninstall, you gonna go sue everyone? Seriously

funny thing about rooting - that was what the Sprint Adv Tech manger said to do. but he also said it makes my phone void for repairs.

Do you download any application from the market, or is your phone running only pre-installed apps? That won't make a difference since almost every app warns you of collecting data. Rooting is not going to solve the problem.

the app is built INTO the HARDWARE from HTC. thus not giving the option to accept the agreement.
So what do you think happens when you sign in with your Google account? It specifically states that data collection will happen no matter what. Now I know your talking about Amazon, but seriously...the paranoia isn't going to help much.
Calling sprint's customer service line and demanding to know what data was being collected was your biggest mistake. Sad to say, but the people here know more then the CS reps do.
Why not contact Amazon or do a search online on what is collected with applications? Either way thanks for the laugh, hope your response isn't to brutal!
on a serious note, if you lived in the EU you might have a chance. They're against OEMs making you have to use stuff, look at MS and the IE choice thing.
but when you say the app is built into the hardware you obviously have no clue as to what you're talking about. Since a.) the app can be removed with SU permissions (rooted phone) and b.) that sentance is just incredibly LOLable.
Ok, I'll answer your question. You do not have a class action lawsuit. Although I recommend you call your lawyer just to let us know how hard he laughs at you.
Second if you cleared your data and then made a phone call, and the data jumped up to 20kb, do you really think it has collected any relevant data? A little common sense is in order here. Most likely the data it captured is:
SERVICE STARTED
SERVICE RUNNING
SERVICE RUNNING
SERVICE STILL RUNNING
SERVICE RUNNING
...

I would recommend running your phone in airplane mode 100% of the time. I guarentee you can have a device where absolutely no data is sent or received and you can be happy.
Been using Google voice (not religiously due to family not the most tech savvy). This morning, I wake up, and I find a total of 8 messages from starting from 10:30 at night, to 07:59 this AM. There are a total of 3 reply backs, all having personal information attached to them).
Researching the number back shows an area code of 734 (Ann Arbor), which is ironically the prefix I chose since I previously worked there at U of M.
The really interesting part is that I have a bit of a "stalker" at work, whose number I've blacklisted courtesy of Verizon wireless, and have not had any issues in say 1.5 months. 2 nights ago while at work she asked about setting up a google voice account after just purchasing a Samsung S, stating "I don't have any clue how to set this up". Was a bit busy at the time (patient going bad, honestly didn't really care", and opened up the app and told her to browse through it to get an idea.
How can I track this number (really think it's her) and verify it. I have a harassment case pending in HR regarding her, and would like to have it as material to provide it it really is her. Second, how the hell can my phone respond back? I have "Unknown sources" checked as I use Ti backup.
Any help more than appreciated. Thanks in advance!
LOL Holy christ no. One of the "you can take the girl from the trailer...." She's done this before to others at work, with the last moving to Canada (I **** you not) with his wife and 2 daughters. Been getting worse, hence my interaction with my manager and HR.
google voice also can use your email to reply back to texts..is your email compromised? Change your passwords..and do a hard reset..if you are using TI..just wipe and reinstall ROM...
It's hard to say what/if she did something...but yeah, thats weird.
edit: I live in Ann Arbor, but I wasn't the one...haha.
pretend how u have this treasure in nigeria, and ask her to "help" you bring it here.
Christ, I never thought of that, and I do have that option checked.
Sigh... I just did a complete backup 8 days ago, only difference is 2 games, and I can re-download those.
Google voice already uninstalled. After that I'm going to get number changed, and see if I can get it "unlisted" by Verizon.
What else, any other suggestions are more than welcome and appreciated!
Added question.

do a reverse number lookup and google voice numbers are listed as grandcentral in their service provider. that will tell u at the very least that its a GV number.
Well, after logging into Google voice, somehow her number (which is and has been blocked by Verizon) is listed as a secondary phone, receive text messages on this phone has been checked, PIN not required checked, and never ring. Multiple sign-in is enabled as well.
Just outstanding. Changed email to some bs address. Will verify and forget, as has password to something ridiculous. Any other suggestions?

Document everything that has happened, as thoroughly as possible. Get whatever confirmation you can from Google that shows that your account was somehow compromised.
This chica sounds like she is serious business and doesn't mind playing these games long term. If she compromised your communications you can be sure that it was not just some isolated fun. She most likely mined your account for whatever info she could, and it's possible that she sent things 'on your behalf' that she can later use to accuse you of something.
Change all of your passwords immediately: banking, paypal, email, etc. If she was able to compromise one, it's likely she got into another.
It sounds like worrying about Google Voice or your phone is the least of your concerns: the symptom rather than the disease.
Seriously consider retaining a lawyer for whatever may come of all this insanity.
Maybe it sounds like I'm overreacting but I've seen the havoc that can come from such a situation and from your description, this sounds like it could go all sorts of awful ways.
I dunno... I think you like her.
i think you should talk to the police about this... not XDA... or maybe springer... he always gets the truth out

This is so much BS. if you were really bothered by this person why do you talk to her? why do you bother with her? I think you are her stalker, thats more believable.
I have been stalked by a chick. Its creepy. You get stalked when they're fat and scary looking. So it is possible.

Aside from just simply changing your passwords, change your security questions to the accounts as well.
Document everything and hand it over to HR

Quick skim makes it seem like the problem happens if you are trying to keep your GV number and get rid of your Sprint number.
For my I didn't even have a GV number, so technically I ported my Sprint number to GV. Without a hitch, I might add.
No issues to speak of, since I moved to GV.
I'm sure a good portion of this is user error and poorly-trained CSRs/CSTs.
I bought my Evo two months after it was released.
That wasn't because I couldn't find one.
There's actually only one time that I have ever done something at the week of it's release and that was the Palm Pre.
And that came DOA [out of box]
Point made?
Ported my sprint number to GV and am now going on day two. I've tested nearly all features and integration has been a huge success for me. Hopefully they get it fixed for everyone soon, but a giant fail it is certainly not.
I use this everyday for school. I text from gvoice connect on my iPad, and have had no problems at all. The app on my phone does open up a bit slow though, and gets stuck occasionally..but thats it.
I haven't made the jump because I still can't figure out why I would want to give up one of my numbers. Sprint wants to pay me $125 to port my number then expects me to freely give it up? That doesn't make any sense. I give my actual number to friends & family then I print my GV number on business cards & give it out to everyone else. Some please explain why anyone would want to give up the option of having two numbers at your disposal because I still don't understand how this is an 'upgrade' over what I currently have.
I never really saw the point of doing it anyways. The whole point of me getting a GV number was so that id give that one to people that I didnt want to have my real number.

GV Advantages to your Sprint #
Call screening Sprint calls / Blocking calls / Custom VM for groups & specific people (With this, who cares if they give their real number?)
Its giving you the control under 1 number (an advantage to some)
Calls are counted as a mobile #
Call Quality is Better

This app backs your messages up to your gmail, with date/ time stamps, and you can print them from there;

And I noticed this one in the "related apps" side;

That's it right there. In criminal, evidence must prove beyond a reasonable doubt. In civil, it basically just has to be more likely than not.
Besides, a text message will have the phone number from which it came, which is fine for civil.
There is also printershare it allows you to cloud print to your pc. One of the options is to print your text messages.

SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu
However, professionally speaking... a text message IS NOT EVIDENCE! Any of you idiots that think it is, then you're F**king stuipd! Anyone can pick up a phone and send a message. You can not prove that the person really sent the messages. Hell, the other issue with it is that if you printed out. you'll likely forget to put ALL the text messages in. I find people like you stupid and people like you should be beat up many times until you're either in a hospital or worse.
THEREFORE LEGALLY A TEXT MESSAGE CAN NOT BE USED IN COURT. If the judge is smart, he will tell you the same.

Don't you ever get tired of being wrong, or is it a hobby of yours?
Perhaps this wasn't admissible in your road rage trial, but you can't possibly know the stipulations of every legal scenario.
PS: to the OP, SMS Backup from the market works great at both restoring and printing messages.
You can choose which format for export, e.g CSV or txt file, which can then be printed.
Worked perfect, thanks

Hi folks.
I feel stupid (and angry) as hell right now. The worst part is that I can't even explain how it happened. I'm the most careful person in the world with my phone, and haven't lost a smartphone in, like, a decade, but I believe I have just had my N4 stolen from me. I had it, then I put it in my pocket, stood up for 10 minutes, then it was gone, and, of course, immediately switched off. All my careful planning is null and void; once it's stolen / off, there's very little that pintail, plan b, lookout etc can do. (?)
Anyway, I just need to know where and how I get the IMEI blocked? It was bought directly from Google, not via a carrier. Does anyone know?
Thanks. I'm off to dust off my credit card, and try to replace my baby
I would think talking to your carrier would be a good idea since they have access to block imei's. Even if they can't they are best able to point you in the right direction.

GSM phones don't have IMEIs, do they? I thought you pop a new sim card in and it's usable again.

Call Google, they can block the IMEI and remotely shut it down, I think I also seen that you can file a lost/stolen report with them. You mfight get a replacement, too.

YES THEY DO.
.........
I'm afraid you can't block your phone from every carrier in the world OP. You should of flashed Cerberus as a system app onto your phone.
Thanks all for your replies.

So far, I've filled in a form I found for order related queries, but that's the best I could find. If anyone has any help for phone numbers/URLs/emails, I'd be really grateful. I'm still searching.

Ha! That would be nice, but I won't hold my breath!
If you use a mastercard and you bought it within 90 days, they'll replace it if stolen.

Badass. But just tell Google. They can block it from T-Mobile and AT&T. I think straight talk too. Emails take along while but they do get back to you. I would put flyers up near where it was stolen that say the phone has been deactivated and will not work on any carrier. If it is returned to you there will be no questions asked ( maybe even lie about a reward) see what happens. You can say my number is on the lock screen or call this number in the contacts. Maybe they will just return it to lost and found or something. Could be it died and you just left it somewhere and someone picked it up to give it to lost and found?

How much of a fake reward would be required for a thief to return a phone? $100 bucks? Not worth incriminating myself. $200 bucks? Then my BS detector goes off because you are approaching the price of purchasing a new one.
I like your optimism but too bad the world doesn't work like that.

thanks for this post. my nexus 4 was also stolen a few weeks back. I didn't even think to contact my card company to see if they would replace it. According to the website, looks like they will
And to think I was actually debating buying another N4 because my Galaxy Nexus is starting to act stupid
Sorry about your loss..
But according to your description of the incident... Someone stole it from your pocket after you stood up? How?? Or am I reading the op wrong

There was literally ten or fifteen minutes between me sitting at the table in the bar using my phone, and it being switched off when I asked my girlfriend to call it. I guess I was pickpocketed when I went outside for a smoke. Sucks, but this is what credit is for, I guess. I'd only just paid off my card
I just want to block that SoB from using it. I'm still no nearer to finding the right contact at Google.
If they didn't wipe your phone, go to Google Play on the web and install Plan B to your phone. It will tell you where it is.

The phone was stolen and switched off within ten to fifteen minutes of the last time I had it in my hand. Pretty tough to install Plan B in those circumstances I have various apps for locating it, as well as a number of Tasker scripts to locate, erase, etc. but they are all pretty much worthless the minute the thief has switched off the phone.
--
I have tracked down the phone number for US Google Device Support , which I have called and they appear to have it in hand, although they have had to escalate my call to a specialist as they were not sure if they could block the IMEI.
Thanks all for taking the time to reply. My new phone has been ordered and should be here in a few days. Everything's backed up to Dropbox, so I'm only down a bit of money and some inconvenience. It could be worse.

Yeah, at least you weren't hurt in the incident. It sucks to have your stuff stolen (I had a phone stolen about 2 years ago in a mugging) but at the end of the day we move on and don't let it get us down. I've found that I'm now much more cautious with my electronics in public, which I guess is a good thing.
Hello there, sorry to hear about your situation. I actually JUST lost my Nexus 4 this past weekend as well. Were you able to get a resolution from the Google team regarding the block on the IMEI? I've tried searching around for more info but haven't been able to find much. What ended up happening if you don't mind me asking?
