hello
is there a tutorial on how to root and flash custom recovery on HTC Hero? i tried looking around the forum but couldn't find anything helpful.
any help is appreciated
It's written somewhere, you just missed it
First of all, Google universal androot
Then, Google a recovery
Download terminal simulator from the market
Step 1 : androot (root the hero)
Step 2 : terminal :
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Of course you flash the recovery you downloaded (amon ra or clockwork)
Done

First off, you will need a Custom Recovery, like Clockworkmod. Since I am not aware whether your Wildfire has it already or not, here are the methods to install it:
1) Via Fastboot (Needs S-OFF via AlphaRev X only)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14693680
2) Via PC49IMG Method (Doesn't need PC Access)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
Once Clockworkmod is installed and ready, you will simply need to follow this post to instll your desired ROM:

A list of ROMs can be found here:

Good Luck
Dear forummates;
I'm totally confused i can't find full guide to install clockwork recovery on my HTC wildfire HBOOT-1.01.0002 Rom 2.2 arabic.
You will have to S-OFF using Revolutionary, and, at the last step of this process, Revolutionary will install Clockworkmod.
Process here:

can anyone help with this been trying for days with unrEVOked with no sucess.
It depends on whether you have S-OFF or not. If not, then unfortunately you have to go with Unrevoked. But, if you have S-OFF, there are a lot more ways to install a new Recovery, two are here: (Taken from the Index thread)
1) Via Terminal Emulator (Needs S-OFF) - Guide Here. If you get an error "flash_image: Not Found", follow Steps 1-5 from Here, then, back to the original (first) link. Pushing of flash_image is a 1 time process. You need not repeat it everytime.
2) Via Fastboot (Needs AlphaRev / Revolutionary S-OFF) - Guide Here. Refer the part called "To install Clockworkmod after Revolutionary"

I didn't read the whole thing but it looks okay. If you read anything about goldcard put it in the nice to know category. Androot is waaay easier. (Androot app is what roots your phone to allow custom recovery installation, custom recovery allows ROM installation)

you are on the right path by starting it with Hero. use androot to simply gain root access so you can start installing custom recovery image (it will replacing your existing recovery image). after that you can start experiencing new custom rom for hero. conclusion:
1- root your hero
2- install custom recovery
3- play around with custom rom
good luck!
For easy ROM install, after root install ROM manager, it will allow You to change recovery with Amon Ra recovery. Then only You need to copy ROM.zip to SD, run recovery, whipe, and install ROM from zip
Hey guys I picked one of these phones up to play with a few days ago and im about to root it now. I was just curious if use this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584029
that would end up putting me on modaco I believe. But i was just curious if that would also give me CWM recovery or if i would need to/would be able to just go to the market and install clockwork mod and get CWM that way. I guess im asking whats the best method of getting CWM installed after i root haha.

Easiest root method is to use z4root and when it says rebooting you just manually reboot it. After that install Busybox installer and Terminal Emulator. Also download CWM from my signature and extract the recovery.img and place it in the root of your SD card. Use busybox installer to install busybox and once that is installed open up terminal emulator.
Enter these commands:
$ su
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
私のEVO 3Dから送信される。

I just wanted to chime in here with a recent experience i had installing recovery. I tried this way and it would have been great if it worked but either busybox didn't install right or it was a free vs paid or i just had a bad experience but flash_image command never worked for me.. I ended up installing an old rom manager apk file to get cw recovery as i couldn't dl it from play.. YMMV
Hey guys i appreciate the info! Thanks alot
