Note: This question doesn't relate to installing Android or Windows on my HD2. I already have Android running fine using NAND method.
I have an extra microSD card lying around, and also a microSD-to-SD card adapter. I want to create a USB Windows 8 installer using the microSD card. However, my desktop doesn't have a SD card slot. So is there a way I can some how use my HD2 as SD-to-USB adapter?
SD into phone, USB phone to PC, when you can see it as a rempvable disk in my computer that's it.

Lol it's not that simple.
I put the microSD card into my HD2, and booted my HD2 into the MGLDR menu. I selected the "USB MassStg" from the menu. I tried to create a bootable Windows 8 installer using the tool Microsoft provides, and it failed.
ahh gotcha. Well i know its possible to use the hd2 as a boto source, cos i do it now and again. But that was made simply writing an .img to teh microsd, whereas you're using a boot disk creator, so who knows. Sorry

Actually i got it to work!!!
I just booted into the MGLDR then went to AD Recovery (option 8), then mounted the SD card using CWM.
Thanks

Hi,
I have Sandisk 2gb SD card which comes with hd2, i installed WP7 but it seems that WP7 can not recognize my SD because when i put SD in my computer nothing is changed in my SD even i tested it, I put some files in SD and reinstall WP7 so as far as i understand wp7 has to format my SD put its specific partition but guess what nothing is changed in my SD even that files remain in the same place...
So i tried to format SD my self with FAT32 and FAT and even i delete my SD partition and none of them make WP7 format and make partitions on my SD card...
P.S-1 My SD card is working i tested it wit my computer by formatting copy some files there so read and write is ok.
P.S-2 WP7 booted correctly in this situation i mean when SD is in device the only problem i have is WIFI can not find any router when SD is in device, when i took it out wifi start working, why i'm saying this because i aware of compatibility issue of WP7 with some SD cards where it reboots if it is not compatible .
same thing happens to me, I am now trying to reinstall (again) wp7, and it seems it got stuck at the DFT screen..... previously it booted almost inmediately. maybe it is partitioning it?, for those of you guys that sd card works, wp7 boots inmidiately?
Yeah SD cards makes crash wifi !
And i cannot use it... Flash WP7 with formated SD cards NTFS but still doesn't works !
First time i istalled WP7 without SD card and when i afterward inserted card nothing was changed. Then i made Factory Reset from Settings menu and my phone started to restart over and over from point where DFT banner shws first time after loader. Then i went to the loader and as i can remember then i re-selected preferred boot source and then for me all was good. Now it show 1.6GB free space with my original HD2 SD card.
i am having axactly the same trouble. i have a san disk 2 gb too. it'll be enough for me but wp7 does not recognize it. i installed both sd-card inserted and sd-card not inserted. i booted with sd-cad and without sd-card. i tried every posibility but no result
reserved space is %95 on zune and it tells me there is no disk space. so i cant start using it full functionally and it makes me really sad
any help is appreciated. thanks.

I have exact the same problem.. i found some sort of "solution". but it is a bit strange. when I pull out the sd card, boot my phone in magldr, insert my sd card and boot wp7, It shows the normal storage instead of the 15 mb.
but when I try a normal reboot without going to magldr, its going back to the 15 mb. and when I try to sync my phone with zune,(with the put-sdcard-in-phone-when-in-magldr-solution) everything goes slow.
Dont know if you (or someone else) already found a "good" solution?
greetz
all of you guys have an incompatible SD card, sorry guys, will need to buy a new one, its a bit of a lottery as that too might not work and dispite what some on here say its impossible to recomend anything.
only advice i can give is get a card that class 2 or 4 and dont spend money on a card that you may end up using for a tiny paperwight
is my sd card gone?
After I successfully flash WM7, I juz realize that my pc not recognize my sd card when i connect my phone to d computer. First, i thought becoz of some bug of wm7 so i try to flash android back. I took my sd card put into a card reader but it still not recognize my sd card. Is it gone?
What about the sd unlock tool that xbmod released ? try a few nokia devices or a device which takes sd card to see if you can unlock... Check out 96edwy video on YouTube on how to unlock after wp7
I have the same problem like arrirang .
When I put my SdCard to CardReader, windows 7 does not recognize SD Card in reader. If I try proces mentioned in video tutorial -> result is the same. Device USB Mass Storage is displayed in device manager with error code.
I was trying it in three computers (two with windows 7 x64 and one with Windows XP) - the result was allways the same.
Any one help me?
EDIT:
I have found this solution:
1. Connect USB cable from PC to phone.
2. At PC, enter WP7-Update-Cab-Sender folder.
3. Go to ‘if needed install this tool’ folder.
4. Install Setup-UpdateWP (x64 for 64 bits Windows and x86 for 32 bits Windows).
5. Copy DEV_STORAGELOCK.cab to WP7-Update-Cab-Sender folder.
6. Run WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat.
7. Then type S – (S)end Cabs to device.
8. After finished installation, close WP7 Update Cab Sender.
9. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
10. At WP7, launch StorageLock.
11. Click yes to unlock SD card.
12. Shutdown your phone.
13. Put your SD card into card reader.
14. Launch Partition Wizard Home Edition (download it here)
15. You should see 2 partitions on SD card.
16. Delete both of them.
17. Create a primary FAT32 file type partition.
18. Click ‘Apply’ to begin the process.
19. That’s all.
It works! I kid you not!!

You should know that Installing wp7 locks your card so thats why it is not recognised by your pc..
Have you installed mango or another wp7 version on this sd card or succesfully on another?? I take it, you have no nokia devices that can format your card?
If you have mango installed transfer the storageunlock.cab to the phone followed by partition cab (got to be less than your total capacity) Reset your phone check if partition has taken effect..unlock using storage lock.turn off phone ..take sd card out into adapter into your pc now it should be readable (not full capacity bear in mind) you have to use easeus partition tool to format to full..
If you have mango on a different sd card and want to recover the corrupt one
Check this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286511
Or if your using just the same sd card you have to start over again and reflash from task 29 stock magdlr radio ie then storage unlock tool
Good luck
hey my problem is that wp7 in my hd2 shows internal memory of 175mb only even though my 8gb sd card is inserted in it..i cant seem to find a sloution to make my phone show the sd card memory..any solution please?
I have the same problem
it's probably because you installed wp7 without the sd card in it and you did not hard reset after installing rom...if so, you need to do a hard reset with the sd card in it for wp7 to recognize the card. or you have a bad card to begin with and the wp7 install had problems.
Hi all,

Ummm flash back to stock rom 6.5 and then flash Android - unless wm7 is stuck once installed...
this should help ...

Thanks for the reply.
Can I just boot into MAGDLR and then USB flash NAND build as per normal? Do I need to do anything special with the memory card (i know windows phone 7 does weird stuff to it and dont want to nuke it...)
Cheers
I think you have to reformat your SD card, as WP7 makes your SD unusable untill you have formated it

How do I do thins? When I connect the windows 7 hd2 to the pc it doesn't see the memory card.
When i flash to android, will i then be able to see the memory card and reformat as normal?
Also as above, am I ok to just reflash via MAGLDR straight from windows 7 to Android NAND? Or do I need to flash back to stock wm6.5 and then reflash to Android NAND?

Put sd card into card reader on pc and format it there. You can use Panasonic SD Formatter (search xda for it)
You should be fine to flash to Android from WP7, I did this but to be safe I also ran a Task29 first.

Either that or put it in an SD card extender and put that inside a digital camera. Then do a "low level format". That would do it.
hmm whats a task29?
Im begining to think it may be easier to flash back to wm6.5 then flash to NAND Android
Task29 formats the NAND area where the roms are flashed to, so you start with a clean base. You can use this tool the do it and it is so simple (much easier than flashing to a stock rom again and then hspl and radio etc etc IMHO). Just be aware that as Task29 formats the rom when the phone reboots there is no rom to boot into, but just boot into bootloader and then flash magldr and then your Android rom.
Either way though you will still need to reformat the sd card after running WP7.
OK
So I flashed a NAND Android ROM, all went well and boots fine. The computer can now see the 16gb memory card in the HD2 but says its only 200mb (I think windows 7 must have used the rest)
When I format it in Windows (whilst its still in the phone - i dont have a card reader), it doesnt free anymore space than the 200mb.
Any thoughts how i can get the remained 15gb back?

You can format it using a digital camera if you have one that takes sd cards (put the micro sd into the sd card adaptor). If you don't have one then you will need to get yourself a card reader in order to format the card.
Or you could use a partitioning program, delete the 15gb unknown partition and then create a fat32 partition.
I just switched from a 2.2 version of android to a gingerbread version on my hd2. The problem I am having is that now my phone says SD card damaged. It worked on my old version and is Able to be read when I'm in magldr and use USB mass storage but not on this android. I tried to format in android that didn't work and tried formatting with windows. I don't understand why it can be read sometimes but not others but would appreciate it if someone could help me get this to work or atleast get it to reformat so can be used. Thanks
What exact ROM are you using? Were you running any partitions(EXT3/EXT4).
Gpc_hd2_gingerbread_v1.7
No partitions
what did you use to try and format it in windows? search in the forum for the panasonic sd formatter or google it if you haven't tried using it already.
I have not tried the Panasonic SD formatter I will give it a try at work since my computer is down for the time being. What is the difference between that program and the windows formatting program though?
In simple terms, one does it better than the other.

You also have to consider d possibility dat ur sd card is losing it gradually...My previous 8GB sd card works flawlessly on WinMo but whenever i flash an android build (tried several, same result), it works 4 awhile then mounts as read only or as ur described, sd damaged...a quick 4mat wit panasonic sd formatter wakes it back only for it 2 repeat d process....
I bought another sd card and haven't had any issues wit it watsoever...my old 8gb card still works but i guess its 2 weak for android's constant reading & writing.
Im having the same problem. Card works fine in everything but Android on HD2, NAND not SD Rom.
Ive formatted form Windows but i'll try the Panasonic one as well. If not would a 16GB card be compatible or would it be too big?
The size isn't a problem as long as your phone supports it. Just make sure you format the correct ext size partitions etc...
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
Is there a guide/thread explaining how I go about creating ext size partitions on SD cards & what size etc?
I run off a NAND ROM if that makes any difference?
Sorry i'm new to Android!
I tried the Panasonic formatter but it still says damaged SD. Still works in mass storage mdgrl or whatever it is. And asks to be formatted when I try to use it in XP

Hey, I got it working, I followed this guide & it worked 1st time.
Hi, I have a nook color and an 8gb SD card. I've followed the posts to get winimage to write the generic-sdcard-v1.3.img written to my card and installed on my nook. However, when I shutdown the nook and put the SD back in my PC, there is no \Boot partition, and windows(xp) says the card is not formatted. What on earth am I doing wrong??
Thanks.
D
Put it back in the Nook after you have booted into CM7 and format it with the Nook. If you have a camera that takes micro SDHC cards you can probably format it with that as well but will probably want to delete any folders the camera creates later.
Well of course! How stupid am I?? Jeesh! THanks.
OK maybe I'm just missing something big.
After I install the SD card in the Nook with the CM7 upadate on it, the SDCard is modified such that when I remove it, the PC no longer recognizes the format. I get the card in my list of drives, but when selected it says "not formatted" If I choose format, it wipes the card and I can't boot to CM7 from it any more. I can't find a format option on the Bare CM7 image - just erase SD card -which still leaves it in a format that the PC can'd read to put the gapps on.
help??
Logical thinking, dr. wambo.
you have drive C which you install Windows OS on it, and then you format it, what do you expect?
In your case, "boot" MUST be there in order to work, if you format the card, it's gone for good. Question is why you format it after creating it?

Understood. My issue is that after I put the SD card into the Nook and boot the nook, it apparently reformats the SD card such that when I put it back in the PC, I can SEE that the card exists, but no files on it. If I check properties, it shows no free space on the disk (and none used for that matter.) So, I am unable to copy the gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip file to the SD and restart the nook.
See?
A simple question, do you see the "boot" when your plug the card into your PC (running Windows)?

I do not. Windows explorer shows an SD card in the list, but when selected, it says the card is not formatted.
Card seems to boot fine in the Nook. I must be doing something really dumb. I was able to install honyecomb successfully using this card, but wanted the functionality of CM7. Darn, this just shouldn't be that hard.
Wait, if the card still "seems to boot fine in the Nook" then it means the "boot" is still there, it just Windows not seeing it.
On PC side, try to insertion and removal a few times and see what happens.
If completely nothing, switch to other Windows PC OR if you have the USB-SD adapter, use it.

I should mention that the nook boots fine off the card provided I don't Format it in the Windows box.
Have removed and reinserted the card multiple times into the Win (xp) box. No Joy. Tried a different machine and got exactly the same results.
This just can't be that hard!!
Are you using Windows PC or Linux?
Worst case, reinstall
Windows PC running. XP sp2. ADDITIONAL NOTE. After I winimage the SD card with the generic image, I do indeed have a \root partition. Once I insert it in the Nook and let it boot, shutdown, and I reboot, CM7 is installed and running from the card, but when I put it in the PC, the \root partition is no longer there.
Additional info. I've now tried this on 2 different SD cards and they both do the same thing.
Not sure if you're still having problems, but it's normal for Windows not to be able read the entire SD card after it's been imaged for CM7. There are I believe 4 partitions and it will generally only see the 1st (/boot). Additionally, it will sometimes only read correctly when using a USB card reader, rather than putting the uSD card into a built-in card reader in your PC (not sure why). Hope this helps.
Interesting...perhaps that's the problem. I'm using the internal SD reader on my laptop. I'll run out and get a USB reader and see if that helps.
THanks.

Yeah get yourself a SD card adaptor to put your SD card in and then put it in the SD card slot on your computer, or if you do not have one get a USB SD card reader to put the adaptor in. They will run you something like 8 to 10th dollars USD for both to get them.
Also your card is like this bot because you erased the MBR on your SD card. It is because on the first boot of WP7 it formats your memory card with a RAID format so it can use your SD card as internal memory. You have to do a low level format of the card to remove it. Once the low level format is done you will have to do a full format of it again with Fat32
This is for others that well read this, if you flash a WP7 ROM and it boots up but you so not like it or it does not work right. Do not, I repeat do not try flashing the ROM again or try flashing another WP7 ROM before doin the low level format and then a Fat32 format on your SD card. If you do you will probably end up with a trashed SD card.
Thanks i will try that..
No, i cant do nothing... i try with a external sdcard reader over usb and the sdformater just stops working when i start or do a refresh. i try with others sd cards and the new sdcard reader works good...
Any more ideas?
