Ghost in the Epic - Epic 4G General

In the past week I've experienced a couple of weird things w/ my phone. I'm stock, using Go Launcher and handcent (this may or may not be relevant to my issues, but I figured it's worth noting).
First, my phone went crazy one night as I tried to respond to a text message. I was trying to respond in the text pop-up window (quick reply) when my phone just starting displaying random letters, as if I were holding a key down (I was using the touchscreen and my keyboard wasn't open). At first I thought I was having issues w/ handcent (mistyping), but as soon as I let off the backspace key the letters would resume displaying. At this point I felt as if I was competing against my phone . After a few tries I just did a battery pull and haven't had a problem since. So I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before.
Second, has anyone else noticed that a space is now printed immediately after typing the "$" (it didn't used to before a week or so ago)? I don't think I changed any settings, but if anyone knows if I have, and you can tell me how to get it back to no space following the "$" I'd really appreciate it. It's just really annoying
Thanks for help, feedback, etc. in advance!

I know the space after "$" started for me after the update to the current stock version. If you swype from the space button along the bottom to the backspace it will temporarily disable auto-space until a new word is swyped it space is tapped. The rest of that never happened to me.

In both cases, were you using the physical keyboard or the screen? If the physical keyboard, it sounds like maybe the ribbon cable or the keyboard itself has been damaged.
If it was an onscreen keyboard, don't know, maybe clear data on the keyboard app?

Thanks for the tip R3537L1F3

Already answered in the OP, but the attempt to help is appreciated
As for the glitch - if it has only happened once, then it was probably a fluke, a random crash of some system component. If you are able to duplicate the problem, then try to get to your computer, connect the phone and use "adb logcat" from a command prompt on said computer (not on the phone - since you probably won't be able to type into the terminal emulator any more effectively than you can in a text). Ctrl-c immediately to stop the logcat (it will run continuously otherwise), then copy and paste the output into a text file. This log information may contain clues about the cause, so paste it here (or a link to pastebin, whatever method you prefer)

[Q] Question: Possible Bug?

Not sure if this is unique to my phone or not, but a couple of bugs that I've noticed on my Bell Desire Z, and wondering if anyone else noticed these:
1. If you assign one of the 2 keyboard shortcut keys to Google Talk, it tries to load Talk, and then force closes.
2. If you use prediction with the hardware keyboard, the prediction does not work at times. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it doesn't show up.
Wondering if anyone else could confirm these for me?
Thanks!
Yep! The Google talk one is exactly like you said on my UK desire z. Not an issue for me but it indicates something in need of a fix.
The text correction thing I have also noticed. Whenever the corrections aren't appearing,do a long press (bringing up the cursor magnifier) then start typing, this makes it start correcting again. I don't know exactly what causes the problem, I think its something to do with having focus on the box you are typing in. Maybe.

It's good to know that I'm not alone. I have contacted HTC about this, and they don't admit to either issue.

Gingerbread keyboard not autocorrecting/predicting

So when i had my stock htc keyboard befote i rooted i loved it. It knew what i meant to type, made the correct suggestions and the most accurate autocorrects. Then i flashed the gb keyboard when i was using warm. It was a big step down in terms of prediction and auto correct but still worked. However now that i am actually on a gb rom, evokings gb v8 (evervolv), everything has just stopped working and its driving me NUTS. it doesnt auto correct, doesnt predict and fimish my words for me, doesnt input a period after two spaces. Let me give you some examples. If i accisentally type looj, why the hell wouldnt it turm that into look? Note the above errors in that sentence that i didnt even mean to type that it shpuld have easily corrwcted. Before when i typed prob, it would turn that into probably as soon as i hit the space bar. Also it would do punctuation ofr me, like turning doeant into doesn't. I have double checked all my keyboard settings. Its taking me like 3 times longer now to type a mesaage because i have to go back and correct all the minor errors. What changed and why doeant the keyboard work how it should? Somebody please help me out

Did you manage to get around this issue? Have the same problem on my desire. And to make matters worse my typing seems to be getting worse with every passing minute :-( it is becoming practically impossible to type in portrait mode. Is there a keyboard recalibration setting somewhere?
from XDA App on HTC Desire running CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-Desire
I've switched to go keyboard. It's doing a decent job but don't know how safe it is to use this keyboard. It can record key strokes and there arent too many reviews either

Does this only occur in the browser?

[Q] Double Letters on Gingerbread Keyboard?

So I searched and couldn't find a direct answer basically here it goes,
I'm using CM7 and the gingerbread keyboard that comes stock. This has been happening since alpha and it slows down my texting. I'm a big texter, and I send about 25-35 thousand texts a month. So I need this to be fixed!
What happens, is that when I'm normally texting sometimes letters will automatically type themselves twice. Such as if I'm texting the word "always" it will usually come out as "aalways" and it looks dumb. I love the gingerbread keyboard but I might have to result in using another keyboard if this continues!(Does this drain battery life?) I don't want to use swype.
If there's a fix let me know! And I checked for a calibration setting and couldn't find one :/
Also happens to me. I just go back and fix it. It's not a HUGE problem, but it's there.
Happens to me also. I Googled it to make sure I'm not the only one. I was starting to think I had the beginning signs of Parkinsons. It's good to know I'm not the only one.
I've also noticed that there are times when the auto-suggest does not work. If you stop typing for a few seconds it comes back. And I've also had a problem with the keyboard not responding as fast I am typing and I have to slow down so it can keep up.
Did you try downloading a different keyboard from the market?
Yeah I'm actually using a downloaded gingerbread keyboard from the market. It just happens often enough to slow down my texting.
myTouch4G+Custom ROM
Yes, this is a frustrating reoccurring issue. Sometimes it'll even give you double letters of two of the first letters in a word, for example, "like ththis." It's especially ridiculous when it happens to only two letter words, like "to" for example, which results in "I'm going toto the movies."
I've filed a report with Google, so please visit the link and star and add your own testimony if you wish. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14755
I even made a video demonstrating the problem to show Google. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZdvr6Pdjk
Smart Keyboard Pro was my solution. Got tired of always getting "toto" when I type "to." And I also always get the doubt first letter on the word.
I'm on an epic 4g and I have this problem also. If you turn on the language packs when you push space bar and a quickly it wont register the "a". This problem doesn't occur nearly as often when typing with the language packs off. Just another thing to add to the complaint ;-)

Samsung's Email app - slow cursor, can't change what u typed.. bugs!

This one's somewhat hard to explain..
When typing an email in the Samsung's email app (NOT the gmail) I get these bugs:
- First of all, app itself is fast, typing is nice and fast, what u'd expect.
- When taping on the screen to change the cursor position - it takes about 1 second each time for it to actually respond and move cursor. Just an annoying lag for some reason. Happens all the time.
- Once I typed the text, say I want to change something - I tap somewhere in the text, wait for cursor to actually appear there, then I start typing/backspacing - cursor immediately jumps to the last character in the email. So I can't actually change anything I typed in - I have to backspace all the way to that place, change it, then retype everything from that point on. This problem is intermittent, but is incredibly stupid and frustrating as hell.
Anybody got these issues? Any idea what's causing these?
PS: Happened on VillainROM and on Cognition. Both with Nenph. and SpeedMod kernels.
It happens in all browsers i tried as well, with all keyboards i tried
Only happens in email app for me. Opera browser is fine..
I wonder if it has to do with the fact that email.apk is deodexed
I'm stock and use the e-mail app with Exchange. I haven't had any of the issues you described and I'm a pretty heavy e-mail user. I'm on KF3.
I have the problem too.
It hasn't mattered what ROM or Kernel combination I've run, it always plays silly buggers!
Exactly as you describe, once you begin to type in the body of the email, it becomes very difficult to edit what you've written without deleting it all (including the email signature).
The email app is the only place I have this problem, everywhere else is fine.
I'm sorry I can't give you any indication of how to remedy it, however I'll be keeping a close eye this!
I have this problem too but only with swype keyboard and only in the stock email app. I'm on the stock rom from the bell canadian gs2.
the way around it i've found.. click once on the word you want to edit, then hit the swype key and either choose from the list of words swype gives you or start typing.
its pretty damn annoying though.. i hope there is a proper fix

I don't even have swype installed, and I have this problem..
It must be something in the app itself, I think
Bump, if I may ..
Really looking for a solution to this problem =(
If you swype from the blue S directly to the right, you get a swype cursor pad up and can move the cursor much easier that way without having to delete everything u typed!

[Q] keyboard randomly collapses on its own

Hey everyone, not sure this is the right section but here goes.
I am running a rooted att 2.3.4 atrix and using swype. my keyboard randomly collapses while i am typing. i dont thing im hitting a specific button or anything, just randomly decides that im done typing. usually happens after occasionally right as i swype a word, as in just when a new word is inputted.
any ideas?
Thanks
edit: ps was working fine last week, no changes in software since this started happening
Had this problem when I first had my Astrix. I solved it by completely deleting my "dictionary" and disabling it. Lg you go on settings and on input then choose keyboard settings, you will find your personalised dictionary filled with words that you have been using which are not included in the phone's dictionary (usually slaNg words).
Sorry for any typos. I am Swyping half asleep here. If you mange to solve your problem, which I am sure you will. Don't forget to give thank me.
Let me know how it goes.

thanks for the response. I deleted my user dictionary but cant find the setting to disable it, still having the keyboard issue. i am running att 2.3.4 if that helps.
cheers
Weird. That did the trick for me. Unfortunately, I am on CM7 at the moment and I don't think I think the keyboard settings are different or they have been moved but keep looking for a way to disable the user dictionary and see what happens.

Ive recently started to have this problem too with swype. Ive also typed words and have seen the travel path trace but no words show up. i have to close then reopen the keyboard. looking for a fix. Im unrooted on Bell
