Around this time, about two weeks ago,I noticed that my phones gps signal was not what it used to be,then eventually it died all together, not picking up any signal at all. I flashed about five other ROMs, thinking it was an error in the rom. I even went back to the stock Froyo 2.2.1 backup I had, after about ten long minutes of searching for signal, I tried flashing a newer radio. That did not help either I'm currently running Virtuous Affinity v2.05.0, radio v.26.13.04.19_M.
Everthing else is fine, just can't get the gps to work anymore. Any ideas?
Sounds like hardware failure :-(
Hmm i have experienced the similar problem, but it was the rom's fault. It does not show the gps symbol on the status bar. But when i put the other rom in, it works again. Is your gps symbol blinking on the statusbar or does it not show up anymore even if you turned some gps apps on?

it blinks in the status bar but never gets a signal
Edit: So i Googled the problem and found many users were experiencing this same issue. i found a thread that said it could be a short in the GPS antenna Coax Cable that is connected to the main board of the phone. So I opened up my phone and there it was. The cord somehow came loose from the main board! I'm so happy to have my Gps back, cause i travel alot
Anyways, thanks!

Can we get a link to that thread?
I heard of people getting sensation for mt4g so that'd be a legit clam. Just a f.y.I. if you wanted to switch. But I'd call cs first just incase

there are two factors of why i think my wifi isnt working
number one)
i had put the wifi route program on my phone a few days ago
I happened to see a thread yesterday with someone saying they think that the program killed their wifi
and number 2
my girlfriend dropped the phone yesterday and im wondering if the physical wifi switch got messed up due to that..... the phone didnt even fall that hard
im wondering what could i possibly do to fix this problem
or what could be the cause of it
Wifirouter
I think it is most definitely wifirouter. I never heard of a physical drop causing wifi not to work. When you power wifi on do you get a tower on the status bar on top that is stale or is it constantly searching to no avail? Also are you running a stock rom/radio? If not what are you using?
I will say that the only true fix if it is wifirouter is revert back to stock rom. Then you can flash dcd's or nue room
Try looking for a program called "EffComm" it's a today screen plug in that toggles wifi, bluetooth and phone. Give that a shot if other conventional methods don't work for ya.
I've tried every fix, every change and every hand position and the gps was still unacceptably slow and useless. After several phone calls to TMO I finally convinced them to send me a new phone.
I unpacked the new phone put my battery and sim card in booted it up clicked on google maps the gps flicked on and off about twice and then locked gps within 35 meters. Then I double checked the settings and use wireless carriers was unchecked.
Also my signal shows more bars. It still goes from 2 bars to 4 bars if i hold it by the top upside down but it was showing none (still worked) then 4?
This begs the question to me, is this a hardware issue? software? if it is soft why if they can fix on the later batches cant they fix for everyone?
New phone about:
model sgh-t959
firmware 2.1-update1
baseband T959UVJFD
kernel 2.6.29
the tech also told me to periodically do *#*#checkin#*#* on the dialer to be in the first people to get OTA updates when available. Anyone ever heard of this?
Thanks, i've been on this forum since my TMO pocket pc phone but this is my first post.
sax911
*#*#checkin#*#* or *#*#2432546#*#* is technically pinging google, sending your phones info... in the event you are on an outdated OS version you will be upgraded soon. It's not a waiting list, no one but Cyanogen goes first. then he gives google the go ahead to ship it out
For what it's worth, my phone was packaged on 8/19/10, and takes a long time to find GPS signal. I did both fixes, but ended up reverting back to Standalone mode to get semi-consistent results. Once it's locked in, it's very accurate.

does anyone have anything different from this? i picked up my vibrant a couple days ago, and my info is the same as this.
my gps works fine outdoors, sometimes has trouble determining location indoors. signal indoors usually shows 0-2 bars of 3g with consistent speeds, with full bars outside.
i can't complain
^^ The one I ordered from Amazon on 8/31 and got delivered yesterday has the same firmware, version etc. Today morning tested GPS on way to office and no problems. Locked satellite in 2 secs and did good job re-routing couple times when I ignored the GPS lady. I dont know if the problem starts when you use GPS more frequently. Hope not!
mind checking the GPS settings and telling us what they are? maybe some screenshots with drocap?
That's great for you but a single anecdotal data point is not an official fix validation.
I just tried *#*#2432546#*#* on my vibrant and got no results whatsoever. I have rooted with the one click root but have not installed any roms. I did do a backup rom with Rom manager and I believe it ended up with clockworkrecovery mode. I have done nothing else. Has something occured that will make it impossible for me to get the OTA? I have gotten checkin successful in the past but now nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
OP, this is by no means a flame but locking on with 35 meters accuracy is EXACTLY the issue with the GPS. That's 100 feet, man. Not accurate in my book. With aGPS turned off, my mt3g gets within 2-5 meters in about 20 seconds. Do a GPS stats test and see how many sats you lock on. I'll bet 1 to 3 at best. If more, post pics.
Mine works after using that fix that's been going around. Only thing is that out takes a while for the gps to lock but otherwise its fine. I think lol.

hey everyone
so my G2, which I absolutely love, has been having a problem lately. in the first week it happened maybe once and i didn't think much of it, but since Friday it's happened like 8 times now. I'll be sitting there with my G2 and all the sudden I have no service whatsoever. Just an x on the signal strength indicator. 1 or 2 times it has come back after a minute or two, but the other times I had to turn the phone off and back on. the weird part is I'm not moving at all, totally sitting still, but when it comes back on I have FULL bars with HSPA+. so it's not like I walked into an area that didn't get good reception.
any idea what's going on? i looked around but didn't see other people having this issue. any ideas?
thanks
alright well at least i'm not alone. i remember that rumored OTA update was supposed to have some radio bugfixes. maybe when the real OTA update comes it will have something to fix this. i hope so.
I have been trying to diagnose this issue on my phone too.
By any chance, do either of you have your BT on at the time?
Happens to mine as described and I have never turned on bluetooth. However this would also happen to my G1 so I think its a network thing personally.
Yeah, it definitely is. I have 2 areas that it happens in, both are while I am in my car and I have BT on in my car. When I ran it without BT, did not happen.
I have found that when I am in those area's, turning off 3G stops it entirely, even with BT on, so when in my car, I set edge and still use my BT and problem is gone.
I hope this is temporary and an OTA can fix the handoff from 3G to Edge and back better so that I can stop this, but this works well enough.
Mine has done that also, maybe once a week for the past 3 weeks.
Judging by the other problems you can have Id say this one isnt that bad. Especially if it only happens once a week haha. This is the only problem I have with my phone.
no bluetooth...
no no bluetooth on, i never do actually... but also my G1 never did this, which makes me think it's NOT a network thing, but I don't know.
also I'm sure this is just coincidence but it almost always happens when my girlfriend is nearby with her T-Mobile Blackberry Curve. i know it wouldn't make any sense, but she's sitting there on the same network with full service and all the sudden my G2 loses service completely, right next to her... although it's not always while she's there, but like the majority of the times she's been there.
I just started another post to check on something, I have widgets that show me when I am connected to 3G and when I am connected to H. I have noticed that the phone is activity managing that connection. In other word, it is in 3G until data is transfered then it goes to H. I wonder if when we are in areas of "questionable" HSDPA signal if this hand off is causing the problems.
I have seen a lot of op's say that there problems come right after some data activity?
Just a guess a this point
i saw someone mention in another post that it happens after/during a text message alot of times. i haven't noticed that myself, but that's something to think about too.

What I've heard is that the phone will stay in 3G mode until you begin using data in order to save battery life. Makes sense to me.
it jut randomly disconnects from the network and takes a while to connect again..any fixes?
EDIT: worst when using wi-fi and causing battery drain

Try these, in this order, trying again after each of them:
* Make sure you're in a strong signal area
* Try another strong signal area (several miles away, so you'll be on a different tower)
* Reset your device. Restore it to stock, in other words
* Call tech support
This was a widespread problem with the VZW GNex. I don't think it was ever officially acknowledged, but it turns out that a lot of devices had been shipped with faulty radio hardware. If you swapped out your device, it was luck of the draw on whether or not the replacement device would have a usable radio or not. This isn't necessarily what is happening in your case, but it's possible, and those are the first few things tech support will want to hear that you've tried.

Area is not the best but it's weird that I get a 4 bar signal and then just randomly lose it.
reset to stock, same problem.
I mean, it does reconnect automatically but it's kind of annoying to pick up your phone and see no service..

I have also been discovering a simlar issue, but I have just turned flightmode on and off, and got the data services back.

no data problems, just overall signal problems (ie "no service" where the carrier should be) and it actually fixes itself.
thing is, I don't if it fixes itself cause I unlock the phone or if its just a coincidence.
This is my signal data, is it good or bad?

I noticed this since the first or second day I've owned my phone. First thing I tried was getting a sim swap but the issue is still there.
While reading this thread my signal suddenly went from 4 bars to searching and I toggled the airplane mode and got my signal back right away (faster than when I tried waiting).
Although this seems to happen to my other phone the LG Optimus L9 so I think my issue may be network carrier related.
For the past few months I've been getting an error "searching for gps" (or something) pretty regularly when using navigation. It sucks because it takes 5+ minutes to reconnect and I end up missing turns :/ . I don't think anything changed with my phone between when it was working and when it stopped working (other than updating with the monthly factory images(all 6.0.1 I would assume though)).
Anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks

I am experiencing this as well. Are you still having issues?
Mine does this as well. I have to use my work phone to navigate.
There's an app, and i forgot it's name but it recalibrates your gps for you. You could try something like that. If not your antenna could be loose. I have a note 3 and had to recalibrate as and tighten the screws on the antenna.

Give this app a shot:
GPS Status and Toolbox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en
Just make sure you are outdoors with a clear shot of the sky, and have a good data connection
Do you happen to be using a metallic case? I used a metallic bumper case that would kill my GPS.
Hi, newbie from Malaysia. I am also experiencing this issue. Installed gps status & toousing but it seems like my gps sensor is normal. Can anyone advise if this is hardware issue or not. Im not sure i should go back to hua wei and could get replacement or not
