Some confusion... - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in india and I am planing to buy a defy but back here in india its called defy plus. Is it the same model or a different model with different features
Sent from my GT-S5670 using xda premium

hi, it's a different model
defy has 800 mhz CPU speed by default, Defy plus has 1ghz (1000 mhz)
defy plus has a larger battery voltage capacity
defy plus has official gingerbread update

Not so different. only battery and camera module are other

And the processor and what about custom roms for the plus model
Sent from my GT-S5670 using xda premium

First of all.Defy has a officially declared TI omap 3610 clocked @ 800mhz .It is also confirmed to have a PowerVR SGX 530.The setup is almost like a omap 3630.
Check here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856821
Defy+ has a ti omap 3620 @ 1Ghz.
In reality,i don't think the processor difference is something to be bothered at all.my defy runs cm9 @ 1ghz.(previously cm7.1 @1 ghz)
Roms
We have cm9,cm7,ms2.1 ginger.Custom roms shouldn't be a problem

Defy is now old and wont sell in indian markets as NEW ..defy + is the upgraded version ..and further google is your friend...
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk

Defy + also has better memry management(512ROm + 2GB for apps). I would suggest buy a Defy(cheaper) and mod it to get better performance and enjoy latest ROM. However, if you want to use stock ROMs than you may want to buy a Defy+ since doing SBF flash of Defy to latest 2.3.6 will void downgradability of Defy and hence warranty!

I think u should buy normal defy.its cheaper and there is not much hardware difference.except the battery ...
U can enhance normal defy's performance to make it beat defy+ stock at any time...

Overclocking? is it bad for the phone

Hello guys, I am going to get a huawei x5 cause a guy is selling it pretty cheap, it has 800mhz processor and I just want to match it till 1.0ghz. Does it decrease the life of the phone? (i will be getting a used one) and how good is the battery timing.

I have mine at 1,4 ghz all the time, and never had any problem with it... battery life might be a bit less, I have to charge it every night but it happened the same when I didn't overclocked it...

Standard use pretty much, 30-50 messages a day, 10-20 minutes of calling, wifi always on, a lot of facebooking, twittering and redditing and music listening for one hour.

My phone is overlocking to 1.4 Ghz all time.., it's still very good.
The scorpion processor in the huawei ideos x5 is found in many phones which the processor speed range goes from 800 mHz to 1.4gHz. So in other words the huawei ideos x5 has an underclocked processor and the huawei ascend g300 has an overclocked 1.4gHz, which means only battery life will be affected. They run flawlessly from 800 to 1400 without any issue.

I use it at 1ghz, only when i run apps which require more data processing i overclock it to 1.4ghz.

What's about overclocking to 1.8 ghz?me I overclock it to 1.8 ghz when playing games like GTA III .
★HUAWEI IDEOS X5 U8800H★
It will run hotter and burn through battery. Be aware that not all u8800 phones can overclock to 1.8ghz though. Mine reboots constantly with anything above 1.6ghz. Stock kernel source for 2.6.35/3.08 allows up to 1.4ghz for the 7x30 based phones like ours, but it is not enabled as stock.
how bad can overclock be to the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
First of all at 1.8ghz it is not stable, above 1.4 ghz it is not stable... phone will overheat faster... and heat decreases performance... and you risk melting your phone xD

All the time I'm using my U8800H (OXYGEN ROM) at 1 ghz but when playing GTA I overclock it to 1.8 ghz with no problem ,the highest temperature degree will be 39 and the battery will empty in 3 hours.
So what's the bad thing with 1.8 ghz?
★HUAWEI IDEOS X5 U8800H★
If it works for you, then nothing. Just making others aware that 1.8 is not always safe. I clocked to 1.8ghz and set it to persistent across reboots. With no use my phone rebooted and went into a boot loop. I had to install ROM again to fix.

it's unnecessary to overclock it for daily use
i don't overclock my phone, and i it meets every day use at default 800MHz. Sometimes I play Modern Combat II , and it performed nice. so i don't think it's necessary to overclock it.

I have mine at 1.8GHz all the time and it works great! (ROM: Aurora ICS 4.1_update1a)
And it heats as much at 1.8 as it does at 1.4...
Actually I don't know the cause of this difference in overclocking between our phones but I don't think it is a hardware reason. Maybe related to Roms or kernels. I tried to overclock mine at 1.8 ghz (MIUI Rom) all the time with no problem but the battery drains more in comparison with 1 ghz overclocking.

Defy + max OC ?

If defy can be OC to 1.1~1.3 GHz from 800 mhz then y can't defy plus be OC to 1.4~1.6 GHz from 1GHz ? Since defy+ has better chip set than defy though CPU n gpu used remains same ...

Hi, 1200mhz vsl60 is enough. Or you want kill the lifetime of your cpu and over this the battery drain empty before the handy is on.

Defy and Defy+ have the same CPU but different kernel (which is software). The kernel limits the clock. Defy+ stock gingerbread kernel adds Clk4 and Vsel4 which are 1 GHz and 58 Vsel by default. I have a Defy+ overclocked to 1.2 GHz Vsel 60. The clock is limited by the kernel and Vsel by the hardware. My hardware at 1.2 GHz is stable at 60 Vsel, yours may be stable at 58 or 62. I know some people OC their Defy at 1.4 GHz but they set a dangerous Vsel to be stable (70 and above). 1.2 GHz is enough.

You can try it yourself. The max I've gone to is 1300 MHz/ 68 vsel... battery heat was very high at 68... many others have also tried, and get the same result as I did.
But as they say, experience is the best teacher, so you're welcome to try it out yourself, and let us know.

So u ve over clocked to 1.4 GHz o reduced to 1.3 GHz ? I really don't understand y defy+ can't be OC more whereas defy can be as it can also reach 1.2~1.3 GHz ...... buying defy would ve been better I guess .....

are you really telling me that you find a difference in 1.2 ghz and 1.4 ghz, while you're using your phone? all you're doing is encouraging battery drain and more wear and tear on your cpu..

Ofcourse there is a huge difference betwn 1.2 n 1.4 GHz.........its all about processing speed which matters for smartfone users ...... Y would there be 3 ~4k rs difference for an 800 mhz n 1GHz cell phones?

Defy and Defy+ have the SAME CPU, but Defy+ is clocked at 1.0 GHz by default.
Cost difference is also for bigger battery and better camera

oc defy to 2G

Hello,I oc my phone to 2Ghz,but its very slow.
I dont know why it is slow?
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
yes OMAP 3630 are found to be stable at 1300mhz , but not more than that ,,
btw , for how much time u were able to get it working on 2ghz , without actually getting any kind of hotboot or freeze ??
I only set frequent and voltage in bootmenu.
My rom is lastest cm10.(20121205)
300hz 20v
600hz 34v
800hz 46v
2000hz 86v
Sent from my MB526 using xda premium
There are hundreds of reasons that could cause a slowdown. You have to be more specific. Other than that, it's very risky to set the CPU clock to 2ghz on a device that's meant to work at 800mhz. This means that you could cause the slowdown by setting the cpu clock to 2ghz.
Sometimes I see posts an just think: This person is that sort of man, who rotates the square in tetris....
2 GHz? What are you smoking?
I can max out oc to 1.4GHz, but after that it slows down.
At 2Ghz you need at least 102mv. Btw, can we somehow oc GPU?

That's not too advisable yet... custom kernel not stable enough...
And the BL is still locked, so GPU OC is more trouble than it's worth...
Dude.... Don't be sooo evil on the cpu.... U are only gonna fry it... And lose ur phone permanently... Bring it down to 1300...above that.. Don't expect any help for any mess ups...
