I've been using the N1 for a while but have always itched for a bigger screen, is it time to upgrade or may be wait a bit longer
What are your plans?
the desire hd does sound really appealing...depending on what the price is, and if it has us 3g, i might make the switch. it would be even better if at&t didn't require a smartphone plan for the desire hd
I would, if they made the following additions/subtractions :
Add:
Bigger battery
HDMI out
RGB Trackball
AT&T 3G
Subtract:
HTC Sense
I might depending on a few factors. First if it's really gonna be that cheap plastic looking like the previous My Touch phones. Secondly if T-mobile offers a bogo within a month or like like they did the vibrant. My wife and I have our upgrades a year apart that way we can generally do a bogo and each get a new phone yearly (the exception being the N1 as there was no bogo, and I had to have it ). We are definately getting either the G2 or the MT HD.
Edit. Wups, misread the title. I thought it said My Touch HD, sorry about that.
not switching from a amoled to a none ...i switch back and forward from a vibrant to nexus one.. vibrant simple stunning ..also have a evo which is same as the desire hd and when u put them together poor evo looks very crappy ..... i do like the desire z which is the same as the g2 . might get the g2
If the desire comes to the US as the MyTouch HD and adds a front facing camera, I just might have to pull the trigger. Even Sense is starting to look appealing.
I'm quite interested in the qwerty form factor now to be honest. Although a big screen and Swype is very appealing. Wondering how well the battery will hold up with that screen sucking on the juice. Is it SLCD or SAMOLED?

Super AMOLED is for Samsung Devices only.
The real question is:
Will it support US AT&T and/or T-Mobile bands?
I'll be holding on to my N1 until manufacturers start releasing 1.5GHz or higher dual core phones.

Agreed. The 1.2GHz dual cores may be tempting though.
If the Desire HD supports TMOUS HSPA+ speeds, I would like to get it. But with all phones, I would have to play around with it for a while before i actually bought it. Buying a new phone without knowing what the glitches/drawbacks are is too risky anymore. I bought the HD2 thinking it would be the world's greatest phone before I played with it. Boy, was I wrong!!

Yes, I am. If it supports AT&T 3G, than it is an impulse buy for me. I really want a 4.3" phone for AT&T, and the N1 fails at that. (Although I still love it <3)
If the Desire Z becomes available with at&t 3g. Possibly

Adreno 205 and 768MB of ram. Holy want!
I'm hoping to only leave the N1 for the N2, if google wakes up and realizes they need to keep releasing the Nexii, if only to keep the manufactures in line, prob even the carriers
Ahh one can dream

just phone wise definitely nexus S.
however it doesnt have a sd card slot and the screen is abit smaller.
also consider the carrier and if you would prefer that over sprint.
I would wait till they announce the Nexus S on Sprint and make sure the specs are the same. I would assume they are with the exception of adding a CDMA radio with wimax.
Definitely Nexus S.
Evo is nearly 2 generations old. (and RAPIDLY showing its' age)

I just got mine a couple months ago and I don't real think its showing it age. I have had all the Verizon big ones like the X and the Inc and I know that they are also not the newest phones but there is always something that will be a bit better and faster. The biggest thing that I like is that Sprint is truly unlimited. Im almost up to 9 gigs with 4 days left in my cycle. I need unlimited because I had to get rid of my home internet due to lack of work in my business right now. The Nexus S is a nice phone but really..no sd card?...and I had the Fascinate with verizon and I had to depend on devs for gps fixes and usable roms but I know the S is a google phone so it shouldn't indure the lack of Samsung updates. Its all of what you like and which service does well for you in your area also.
Oh lord not another one of these threads :rolls eyes: lol
If nexus s doesn't have an sdcard slot(hopefully it does) how is it even a competitor with other smart phones out there. I'd pick my evo all day because of the huge ass screen and its an HTC. Evo 3D sounds like a winner(based on rumors).

+1 Screen and HTC
16GB of internal storage is a lot. If you need more that's fine, but 16 GB should satisfy a ton of people.
Edit: Things better on the Nexus S.
GPU: PowerVR SGX 540 can compete with the Tegra 2, EVO's Adreno 200 barely beats the original 2009 Droid's PowerVR 530.
Cameras: Samsung makes good mobile cameras, HTC includes terrible ones.
Display: SAMOLED > Lousy TFT
Internal Storage: EVO has a microSD slot but has very limited internal storage. Nexus S is capped at 16GB but has way more internal storage for Apps and 16GB is not bad at all.
NFC: I'm sure this will come in handy, will it this year? Maybe not but it's good to have one.
Gyroscope: Better gaming, especially FPS'.
Software: This is tough but you can knock a Google supported phone. Come Ice Cream time, you'll be watching Nexus S users playing with a fully working, HW accelerated OS.
It's just a really tough decision for me bc I'm thinking about getting the Nexus and giving the Evo to my girl. Don't get me wrong I love my Evo, I'm just ready for something new!

Like i said..there will always be a better phone than what you have but sometimes the network and carrier matter also..If I go 10 miles away from my house with T-Mobile I go to Edge....not on Sprint. In the end it really doesnt matter to me what people decide on..I have to use whats best for me and so does everyone else. If price matters though I'm sure you have seen if your a Bestbuy rewards zone member you can get the S for $99 on a 2 year agreement with the coupon...not a bad deal.

The Nexus S (with WiMax) is strongly rumored for Sprint.
If I can manage to keep myself from going to get that Nexus then I may just wait for the new EVO or Nexus 4G.

It seems to me that the Nexus S is going to be a lot more difficult to root than my EVO was. I used the original Simple Root so I guess that says A LOT!!!

I read through some of the guides and its a lot of stuff that im not too sure I know how to do. It also says that you have to re do clockwork every time you want to flash a ROM...
If the Nexus S hits Sprint, you better believe I'll be selling my EVO to buy one.
1. The earlier you sell your EVO, the more you can get for it.
2. Nexus S will sell for a lot more than the EVO by the time HTC has a dual-core badboy on the market.
You see what I did there?
I'd say Evo, but that's because I've had nothing less than perfectness from my own Evo. However, the Evo 3D was announced/leaked, so I'd wait on that, because truthfully that sounds loads better than the OG Evo. But, anyways, the Nexus S is also (I'd imagine) going to be one of the phones at the top of the list for updates since, as the adds say, it is "pure Google." and they love to roll out updates, whereas the Evo is moving down the ranks with all the new phones announced at MWC and the like. Also the Evo is a beast of a phone, much larger than the Nexus S. It's really hard to define a clear cut answer, just do research and pick the phone that provides what YOU want from it.

Really? Its a Nexus phone... While I personally dont love the Samsung construction of mine, there is something to be said of Nexus.
Part of that is the hack-ability, fastboot oem unlock. Same as N1. Literally two adb commands to root a NexusS, and recovery works just fine. Although I gotta say I miss AmonRa when using my Nexus, I just cant get used to Clockwork...
Both phones rock. NS is far beyond Evo internal wise, but I like the feel and look of my Evo far more. Only knock I have against the Evo (since buying a seidio3500, and having it last 48hours+) is the QSD8650 and Adreno200. Been available since the Eee pc in 2009....Not exactly new tech, and holy poop does my NS do 3d games like a different class of phones compared to my Evo. But then I go to HDMI the ***** to the TV for some N64oid+wiimote and....o yeah...
Edit: Forgot to mention, I think I'm gonna craigslist my NS for something dual core, if that says anything.
^^^^ see that's what I don't understand is the adb commands. How do I open the command prompts?

Strangely enough I still see a ton of people use the Evo 4G more so than ever even after this phone has been around for over a year now and really not too many Photons, Evo 3D's, or Epic 4G Touches. What makes our phone one of the most ubitiquous?
It would be if it sold on more carriers i bet. It was a revolution when it came out so it sold alot and continued doing well afte a price drop. Sadly im guess it will fade out when peoples upgrades come around since the evo isnt even 2 years old yet.
When the evo came it was was THE powerhouse. Now, most of the phones that come out are just dual core 1.2GHz something. Take away the second core, and you have an Evo. The Evo can still most things as the newer phones, just 'technically' slower. So like some games/apps may not work because they were optimized for dual core performance. I mean you can tether, wifi, 3g/4g...everything else the newer phone are doing, with the NFC only on the nexus. That's why most people are holding out on the evo.
It's because of XDA that the EVO is still holding strong
I believe Evo has the strongest dev community of any phone, and certainly the most longevity. It deserves it - it's the 1st superphone.

That's a fact...go look at any other of the XDA forums for other phones...none have as much going on there as far as active members, devs and posts and threads still being made. We have at least 10 threads with over 1 million plus views and some with over 2 million, most others only have a couple with a few hundred thousand views. The Evo has one hell of a community, something I will for sure miss whenever I jump to another phone next year when my contract runs out.

Thank you and keep doing what you do! except the lurkers! you would be suprised that you might be able to help someone just be respectful and share you own experience with roms and apps etc
I still enjoy my evo and with the releases of ics I will be content for a while longer. Though there are stronger phones now, the evo 4g hold it own. The devs are amazing here.

Even with other "better" phones out I still think the evo is the best. To me, I have compared my Rooted Evo to newer current phones and mines do the same thing. Still 8megpx camera, now with the newer twicks, panorama ect.
My 4G gives me steady 7 to 9mbps. I am running mix sense, and Gingerbread.
So. the way it is my phone is still good until August 2012 when my upgrade
Now also, with this app called " Jeannie" is just as good as the SIRI that the Iphone has. Now. we all know Iphone is not a match with a rooted EVO but that SIRI is cool. Jeannie is same if not better.
I have all apps that I need and still have over 160mp of free space of internal memory and over 4GB on the sd card. SO? what else I need?
IM sure, August 2012, the newer EVO then will be a Quad Core beast with camera of 10megapix and way much more...until then My EVO Rocks!!
So I have 2 choices. The sensation or the amaze? What would you get? I know the specs and all but I just want to know what the overall feeling is towards either phone. Input is greatly appreciated!
amaze is sexy stock but that's all its gonna be as development hasn't exploded yet. better hardware though.
sensations got those roms with worse hardware and its already OLD
I go with sgs2 imo why don't you consider that

Well I am buying it from a family member who is getting the T-mo GS2. So, they are selling either the Amaze or the sensation for $140. I mean coming from the My-touch 4G, either phone should keep me happy until my upgrade time in September.

Only good thing about the one s is ics. Besides ics, in my opinion, the amaze is way better than the one s. Which won't be the case when the amaze officially receives ics.
The one s lack of expandable sd, and removeable battery is a deal breaker. Such a lame design from HTC.
I don't think anything can compete with the amaze right now.

Yup, it is a family deal. I think it was worth it too. On eBay they are going for 300+ still. The amaze was nice and I really liked it. There was one thing about the amaze that I did not like so much. What was reported from various places and my family was the battery life is terrible. I need something to last me through my nine hours at work. The sensation is only three months old, Qhd screen, dual core.. good enough.
On a side note about the new HTC x series, they are great phones. It appears from reading the Androidcentral.com story is that the Sprint version might be the best one. Micro Sd slot is a big deal for me. I just do not think I would shell out the $650+ for an HTC x one....

The 3D has given my friend some significant problems. In fact, on recently has he been able to flash different kernels without a lengthy process. I hope the LTE isn't like that. Was going to be my upgrade, but maybe something else might win out like the Galaxy...
Personally I think that the satisfaction felt when flashing a rom after doing a lot of command line work and scripts is a lot greater than just wiping and flashing a zip... I know that's just me, but this still doesn't sway my decision
Plus you don't need to be flashing things constantly with a great phone. Find something that is smooth and does its job well, and then leave it be.
I'll still take the EVO 4G LTE, even if the bootloader cannot be unlocked. The Galaxy SIII will have the same Snapdragon S4 as its Quad core won't work with LTE stateside. Not to mention, the Galaxy SIII is plastic, I'll take EVO's aluminum polycarb design over a plastic piece of junk anyday.

I have an EVO 3D and I must admit that when it had S-ON only, it sucked. However, I could flash any ROM I wanted any time. Then, I just used Flash Image GUI to flash kernels/recoveries. It really isn't as bad as it seems. You just can't use ROM Manager (fully) and that pisses people (that wanna take shortcuts) off.

HTC phones don't use NVFlash. However, I have a newer OG Transformer and never touched NVFlash and I was able to root, flash a recovery, flash a from, and a kernel. What else would you want? P.S.: Same thing will be easily possible with EVO LTE running S-ON via HTC Unlock.

I've been REALLY on the fence the last few weeks. Loving HTC HW, and really wanting the new Evo. But then everything I've been reading about the BS HTC unlock and S-on has really been pushing me, ever so reluctantly, toward galaxy nexus.
But what you're saying gives me some hope regarding Evo LTE. So flash image GUI is a workaround for having to flash everything thru damn fastboot commands from a PC?
I suppose between flash_image GUI and terminal emulator, flashing recoveries and kernels shouldn't be an issue, no?
Still, going to have to relock and be on stock rom with factory recovery to flash radios, correct? Cuz radios update pretty often after launch. GNex is on their 3rd radio update already.
Responses welcomed
Thanks

I really do like htc products coming from a suckass Samsung Transform, But locked bootloaders is kinda pushing me back to samsung because i never had that problem and tussle to root a phone, Even though the Sg3 is plastic crap, id take that for being fully rooted than a halfass root. Just my thought on it even though i love the EVLte before i even put my hands on it.
I'm probably gonna go with the s3. Only because of fully rootable, pretty much unbrickable, and the main thing is the removable battery

Dunno if anyone saw this. I'm not really even considering an sIII, I think it's fugly, the UI is fugly (I know that can be changed by putting AOKP on it), I don't like the materials, and I'm ready for a new phone now. But, here's an article about the processor

There is like a 95% chance that when the S3 comes to the US, it won't be using that proc.
I don't know why everyone is trying to predict how things are going to be on the Evo LTE which won't be out till the end of the month (although we at least have proper specs for it, just no legit testing), let alone on the S3, which won't be out for a few more months and will NOT be the same as what is released in Europe.
Not to mention:
on par wih the HTC One S and the Galaxy S2 and far ahead of the One X

So the One S is faster then the One X? Great article....
And don't forget... benchmarks mean jack shi* when it comes to real world performance.

Samsung has already said that The Galaxy SIII model coming stateside will be using the Snapdragon S4, same one in the EVO LTE, not the quad core Exynos as that is not compatible with the LTE network architecture. The only exception is TMobile, which will possibly get the same model as the international version, featuring the quad core.
Until the phone get S-OFF I do not consider it properly rooted. And there is no guarantee that the phone will get it, just look at how long it took and how tricky it is for the Rezound and other newer HTC devices.

Not to be a douche, but a device can be "fully" rooted WAY before it has S-OFF. People really should stop thinking these are interchangeable words. HBOOT 1.50 EVO 3Ds ARE fully rooted and can flash custom ROMs all day. I'm sure that's what the majority of root users do anyway.
Also, I don't think the EVO LTE is superior, I probably won't get either for awhile. I just don't want someone to wait on upgrading to an EVO LTE because they think Sprint won't let HTC unlock the bootloader or that the SGS3 will be quad core. Just silly.
