I don't really play a lot of games on my phone but I have tried a number of games such as Abduction, Robo defense, wave blazer, speed forge and It's getting visually boring .. I wonder if android will ever get a real open gl es2.0 and be able to come out with games like what iPhone has; examples, need for speed and street fighter 4..
don't get me wrong, I love my phone very much but from time to time everyone craves for more.. I mean its not really a hardware issue since the N1 has better hardware specs than our friendly Apple counterparts .. come on we want Neon Floating Point support on our n1.... don't u agree ?
I cant wait to see the games improve
hopefully after the google io conference on may 19th..i read somewhere that google is going to be making gaming much more friendlier on android..until then try raging thunder 2 and asphalt 5
i really do miss my iphone games though :/
I made a post similer to this a wile back. Im also seeking better games. Theres a couple iphone games I hope that gets ported to android.
I hope they have games better than the iPhone...especially considering the hardware on this thing -man, it has better specs than some of the first computers I had!! haha

Unfortunately this specifically won't happen....we may have the far superior CPU, but we have no GPU....graphical rendering is all done CPU-side; whereas the iphone has a GPU chip in it. Our CPU is pretty ridiculously powerful, such that it performs graphically about 80% of what the iphone is capable of, but we are limited by the lack of a GPU onboard.

What are you talking about? Of course the Nexus One does have a GPU, capable of OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0.

Dude, u're completely wrong. N1 has a separate chip for 3D rendering, a separate HARDWARE chip.
It's NOT CPU-based.
The snapdragon processor has a dedicated GPU called Adreno 200. A dedicated GPU is a requirement of Flash 10.1 and the reason why some older Android devices will not be able have it. The reason why some games on the iPhone look better than the N1 is because the N1 has a lot more pixels to push. The N1 can processes more Polys/second then iPhone but because there are less pixels the iPhone can render some games better than the N1.
Would be nice to see a software update the optimizes the GPU or perhaps on a new Cyanogen Rom

Awww I thought we had the Hummingbird GPU.. I must have incorrectly read something somewhere. Oh no wait, that was the Samsung Galaxy S. It's much better than the Snapdragon, don't know about much, but it is better. 3 times better..
Why did Google render a Hummingbird in the video demonstrating the graphics processing of the Nexus -.-
Don't forget that any games designed for the Marketplace need to run on older versions of Android as well as older devices (such as the Dream). Because of that developers need to choose between making apps backwards compatible for maximum customers or writing apps better on only specific high-end devices (N1).

Yep the Samsung S has a PowerVR SGX540 = 90 million triangles/sec versus Nexus One = 22 million triangles/sec
Not sure why Google did what they did but Samsung is using their new S5PC110 application processor. This processor contains an ARM Cortex-A8 core paired with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU.

In some respects that is true but look at Asphalt 5 for example. The game was designed with the iPhone in mind but when run on a stock N1, it lags real bad. I think a lot of these game developers make one version instead of platform specific ones.
Hello!
I am looking for a new phone and would like to know which of the present android devices has full OpenGLES 2.0 support and the most powerful GPU for best game experience?
Thanks a lot!
So far from what I heard, the Samsung Galaxy S has the most powerful GPU. It is said to be 3 times faster than the GPU on the iPhone.
TI OMAP3 has the PowerVR GPU that's faster than in the Snapdragon processors. That's as far as I know.
Maybe an overclocked Droid/Milestone?
Zune HD has a nVidia Tegra last year, and this is about to come out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCTWkJRxm5E&feature=player_embedded
And I bet they are thinking up some cool new phones that not only have Tegra2 and can play a version of Unreal Tournament, but finally add some controls to make it usable. There are bigger devices (tablets) that have Tegra and Android that are out ? or will be out before any phone. Just check engadget.

where did u reed this m8?
my 2c milestone/droid for best gaming experience.
1 of the most powerfull gpu's but 1up's everyone else with hardware keyboard
so far have been able to play any game no issues, including Gangstar, and Sandstorm (basically GTA3 and Call of duty knock offs) no overclock
for Nova (Halo knock off) i'd say overclock to 800mhz just to smooth it out.
Also Marvel vs capcom and all the snes games are killer on it -> perfect emulation no need to OC
out of the box their are some mandatory downloads (like launcher pro) to smooth it out, but once thats handled it can easily keep up if not surpass the X10, N1, & Desire. and pass all of them in gaming - rumor has it droid 2 is coming out soon so might want to wait for that.
1 last thing, I also heard Galaxy S had the best benchmarks of them all and the best graphics chip (can't remember from where) but again... no keyboard
PS milestone (GSM droid) can be OC'd without needing to reboot or anything, just up it before you start playing Nova
Hi,
I read more and more great games created for Tegra 2 devices. For example this recently:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...s-like-a-total-war-rts-for-your-tegra-tablet/
If I am not mistaken, you can not have that if your device does not run Tegra 2.
Not because your device is not capable, but simply because your device does not run Tegra 2. Probably they use specific code instructions, but this is another "sub-fragmentation" on Android
So, I would rather have Tegra 2 instead of Exynos just for this.
Yeah... That's a notable downside to having many different SoCs, with a couple of different GPU architectures. Some fragmentation is inevitable. However, I'm sure that eventually adherence to OpenGL ES standards will be all that matters.
The quality of the TegraZone games (e.g. Monster Madness and Samurai II: Vengeance) is amazing. However, the Tegra 2 seems to have a pretty low fill rate (at least with regards to its use on a high res tablet). Luckily, after installing a modified kernel with cleaned up GPU code, my Tegra 2-powered XOOM seems to play games at high resolution much more smoothly.
Up until recently, Tegra 2 was pretty much the only dual-core SoC on the block. With the newest Snapdragon and Exynos having much better GPU than the aging Tegra, developpers are gonna have to start supporting more than just Tegra, no matter how much money nVidia is pouring onto them.

Ditto. Exynos > Tegra 2
Well i see lot of games coming for tegra this year
most of them for tegra 3
it really disappoints me
well somepoint iwill get the prime iguess in around 4 months in my birthday but until anyone has an idea if maybe a driver like chainfire could unabla tegra 3 on tegra 2
well iknow its not logic but you know like with chainfire that you can reduce texture quallity
(sorry for my really bad english XD)
well i have no idea what you asked
He wants to know if you can play tegra 3 games on a tegra 2 device.
Sent from my X10a using The Force
seems like what he is saying is that a lot of the newer games that have been announced have only been for tegra 3. but take shadowgun for example it was only soposed to be tegra 2 but later was given versions for otehr less powerfull chipsets. so i assue newer games will be announced for tegra 3 but after a month sor so there will be a tegra 2 version so not to worry. also im sure chainfire wil get right on it once more tegra 3 devices and games are out
I am guessing......
....and I could be wrong. That he is hoping that someone can wave a magic wand on all the new "Tegra 3 only" game titles (whatever they may be) and make them compatible with Tegra 2.
I believe, he thinks that Tegra 3 is driver related and not architecture change and therefore unlockable, like reducing the graphics settings on a new game to minimum so it plays on an old graphics card.
Sorry if that is not what you are thinking Hearmeman. Pure assumption on my part. Google "Differences between Tegra 2 and Tegra 3" and you will see it's not just graphics.
Well
about the architecture
i guess you can use qualcomm drivers and mali drivers on tegra 2
i cant any problems with tegra 3
i do know the chipset is changed
iguess chainfire will release a driver that allows that
Hehe, I'm down to 0 game on my TF. I guess I'm not as enthusiastic about tegra 3 as I should because I'm not a gamer.
Expect THD versions for Tegra 3 and then they will be adapted and the hardware restrictions will be lowered and given to other devices.
If a game was natively meant for Tegra 3, I wouldn't expect to see it on anything less than a Tegra 2 because then the developer would have to lower the game quality so much that it would insult how the game was meant to be played.
dont you think that they just can reduce texture or colors
it boost up the framerates
you see like in riptide they added motion blur and water splash nothing serious
im really looking forward to buy the prime the next few months but until then
Hmm, I must have been looking at other games, the ones I saw said they would be for T2 with enhanced versions for T3.
Hi ! Someone know anything about it ? Asus gonna release Android Marshmallow on Zenfone 2, and the GPU (PowerVR G6430) is compatible with this new api but do you think they gonna release this update with last build of android with Vulkan ? (Google announced this API will be compatible Marshmallow.)
Vulkan really increase performances with our GPU (PowerVR G6430) :
And a technical demo (real time) of vulkan on smartphones with Unreal Engine 4 :
No, asus has never been good with optimizing gpu, camera
But they are changing , who knows. , well if 820 also supports it, because s7 has it why does not lg g5 and mi5 have it.
Either its quite new to do developers or they aint interested in it
Wow, that demo video is jaw dropping. It's incredible what mobile devices are capable of these days.
I hope this happend
Maybe you can write this in here

Only the U.S. version on s7 has the 820 everyone else will be using the exynox chip
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Free mobile app
Exynos is just hyped overloaded trash. No CPU documentation No SRC is worthless to us XDA users. Even QSD820 can barely make the AOSP or CM make work properly..Oh and the Bootloader, It's got a chastity belt from samhell...
I suppose this opens up a lot more for smartphones in terms of graphic capabilities, hope soon I will be able to play a ported version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 on my phone (yeah I could use the PSP version but that version of the game sucks).
And yes more than likely Vulkan support is coming in the Marshmallow update.
hi, I'm very interested in everything about vulkan since i could see some videos about it. But my knowledge about api, android and rom's is not that good, so i would thank you if i could get some answers.
1 - Is this implementation of API a work for ASUS or Intel?
2 - Since i saw that PowerVR Rogue has now SDK(i dont know what it is) for Vulkan, Is ANYONE able to make a custom rom that could use Vulkan?
3 - I've heard that Android N will have native support for Vulkan. Does it mean that if i download a custom rom, like a cyanogenmod, for Android N to my Zenfone 2 i will have the benefits of using Vulkan?
4 - Does anyone know if that Galasy S7 that had 135k+ on antutu was using Vulkan? Because my Zenfone 2 is a great phone and only scores 65k, it's scary to thing that a S7 should have more than the double of hardware capacity that my Zenfone has. I thing that should be because of vulkan, but i need to hear it from someone who knows what's talking.
I hope to get answers for this questions. Thank you all.

1) Both Asus need intel to update graphics drivers to implement Vulkan
2) Nope still need drivers
3) This means it's implemented but not compatible with every phone running N version as SoC makers and OEMs need to update the source code
4) Galaxy s7 is superior in any way to zenfone 2 this means gpu and cpu. Vulkan api will start working only on some games if implemented if the devs don't use vulkan api then this means no visual/performance upgrade.

Our GPU is fully compatible, it's up to manufactures to include it other wise it's gonna be really hard for CM Mantainers to include it even partially.
