Hi! I just flashed CM7 and for some reason the google apps wouldnt install but the ROM is working. I followed the youtube tutorial using file expert and the gapps 2.3.4 but it says it cant install for some reason. I would appreciate any help on this matter!!
Does it give you any more information?
Make sure you flash it, not try to install via Android!
Yeah, I did that. I think ill just restore and flash a new Rom.

sounds to me that you are getting corrupt downloads, have you tried to dl a diff zip, one that seems to be working for everyone else, and test it? have you upgraded roms today, or changed anything???
I've tried a few... apk downloads are fine but sips are not... I haven't been able to even flash kernels so I haven't done anything new
give us some phon info... rooted? rom? ect...
Rooted with stock Rom and using faux 8.2..... noticed when I tried to flash 8.3 so I tried other zips and nothing downloads
have you tried a full wipe and restoring an older back up... then seeing if that fixes it, or pushing them through ADB?
Restored backup.... don't use adb... I can install them if I put on SD from computer. Just don't download direct any more

well i am sorry i cant help you bro... my knowledge base is rather limited, but i have walked you through everything i know how to do... you could get a logcat and give it to the dev of the rom, and i am sure they could help you a bit more. and if you need help on how to get a logcat then go to the resource bible in the dev forum or use the search function, but i can take you no further
Well it was stock tmo so no developer.... I die flash to 8.3 kernel through SD and problem is gone for now.... but thanks for your help
np, and i am glad it is resolved, happy modding

1) root the device and turn s=off. Threads in the development section
2) visit the Cyanogen mod CM7 thread
[sent via Cyanogen powered Android]
Root your phone via one of the many available methods although the gfree has seemed to have some issues. I'd recommend visionary method. Once you have root and have S-off install Rom manager via the market and flash clockwork (and correct me if I'm wrong as I get confused a lot with recoveries build #'s lol) mod recovery version 2.5.1.2, 3.0.0.5 or 3.0.0.6. 3.0.0.6 is the best available currently. After flashing clockwork in Rom manager (its the first thing that pops up) scroll to download Rom and download cyanogen mod 7 rc4 from that menu. (You will have finished downloading the rom and have booted into recovery by now) MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE PRECEDING. Then Wipe data and cache via recovery and then go to install zip via SD card then choose it again find the .zip file for cm7 and hit install. It WILL take awhile to install. After it finishes reboot. Again this will take awhile. Once it comes up, wait 3 minutes or so then reboot. Then set up and your good to go. Once you've done that its basically rinse repeat for other roms. But remember to read the roms flashing instructions before hand as it may have some wacky process for flashing. Good luck!

Not to nitpick, but 3.0.2.4 is the latest version. It just came out the other day, so that's probably why you're not aware.
EDIT: To the OP, like neidlinger said, your first step is to root. This is the guide I followed and it works great: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858021.

I usually worry about the same thing with brand new releases. In this case, it seems to be good to go.
Thanks man if it looks good to you I'll probably flash it

Once you're finished with that tutorial, you'll be rooted and have a custom recovery installed. At that point, create a Nandroid backup, and then wipe all three items in the recovery menu and install the custom ROM. There is no direct Nexus S port to the MT4G, but CM7 and RoyalGinger are essentially the same thing, and in fact better, so check those out in the dev section.
i had xrecovery installed and was running z's beta 4 rom my atnt signal went out and i thought id try reinstalling from se webite now i cant get xrecovery to work cany anyone help me please
Did you flash any new SE firmware from a SE program? If you did, you will need to get the baseband you want, reroot, and do the busybox install and xrecovery all over again.
If that's what you did.
Update us here with new information.
Well man you should've just reinstalled the rom. That would have been much easier but whatever. Try installing the xrecovery apk in the development section. It says xrecovery on it and is by zhidzhu. If that doesn't work then you'll need flash tool

Hi everyone, I been reading on this forum for a quiet some time now but never felt the need to create an account to post any questions. because i always find informative threads that help me solved my problems but not this time.
i been helping my friend to tried to install a custom rom on his D2, i wouldnt say im very experienced, but i have done it to couple other phones including a droid x so im kind of familiar with what to do.
so i rooted it, bootstrapped, using rom manager to install cwm, then bootstrapped to cwm recovery, from there wipe data / cache, then install zip from sd.
i tried with cyanogen mod first, but it didnt work, it would get stuck on the m logo after rom is installed, so i sbfed it and repeat the whole process and installed the liberty this time but same thing happened again, so i repeated the whole process again and i tried liquid smooth just now, and it still didnt work.
is there something im missing?
You need to make sure the phone is on gb. Also wipe data/cache/dalvik once before you flash and twice after.

so it has to be 2.3 and above? the system say its 2.2 right now, but the sbf file i used its "vbz a955 2.3.20_1ff" so i assumed it was on gb. is there specific version of gb i need to upgrade to?
thanks for the suggestion
To flash cm7 or any gingerbread rom you have to first be on the ota 2.3.3
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
ooohh thanks! whats the best way to update to 2.3.3? do you have a link? all the links i see is for 2.3.0
thanks alot hope if works
The best was to update is to sbf to stock 2.2 then accept the ota update. Then once you update you can root, bootstrap then install cm7.

thanks, everythings fixed!
Hi. Im just about ready to install a rom. I just wanna check if I have all the right software. Here's my phone specs: Droid X 2.3.3, 4.5.605
I'm attempting to install: Liberty Gingerbread v0.9 - downloaded from Liberty Toolbox.
I have ROM Manager installed, flashed recovery, and can reboot into Clockworkmod. I have also made a backup of my current ROM through ROM Manager.
I have researched, and feel confident, on how to SBF back if something bad happens.
Please let me know if I have all the right stuff to make this happen. Do I have the right ROM version for my phone? Thanks!!
Sounds good just make sure BEFORE you flash to have contacts backed up and apps that you might have that were pulled from the market backed up. Also just suggesting I am running cm7 nightly not the one from cyanogens website and it works really good. It has everything working practically if you want a link to the rootzwiki to get the rom just ask below. I think your ready to flash but wait for one more to answer to be safe. Good Luck

i attempted last night but the install failed at the Clockworkmod screen. it just said "process aborted". maybe it was a bad zip filed. I will try again tonight after work with a different zip from a different image. i still want liberty

Honestly, you should try a rom other then Liberty. Personally, I prefer Vortex. Also, roms such as MIUI and Cm7 perform wonderfully. =D
