Place the image named custom.img file (if not named custom.img then rename it to that) in the root of your sdcard
Open terminal
Type su
Type the line below
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/custom.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19
(YOU WILL SEE A TRANSFER, IF YOU DO YOURE GOOD TO GO)
Press enter
Backout of terminal
Reboot
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE AN ALREADY CONVERTED JPG TO A SPLASH IMAGE, JUST CONTINUE WITH THE STEPS ABOVE.
IF NOT YOU WILL HAVE TO CONVERT THE IMAGE TO A SPLASH IMAGE BEFORE.

In the theme and apps section trueblue_drew made a thread. Its a splash flasher, but it didn't work. But it does come with a image converter...aka jpg/png to a .img. And in the thread is also a way to flash the terminal emulator method.
Sent from my HoneySmartDroid Port using XDA Premium.

His flasher has worked great for me in the past....

Any idea on how to change first boot splash ?

On the HTC Dream (G1...) it was possible to get rid of the very first boot image, that white screen with a steady HTC logo, with a flashboot command like the following (changing source img name $3 ):
fastboot flash splash1 splash.raw565
.....now...the obvious question....do we need a special SPL to do something like that on Desire?
I saw something in boot.img that could probably help in the process but my Droid skills are too basic to get an answer by myself.
Any idea on this?
Thanks!
According to the Droid Dev Channel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
How to change boot animation
1. You need to have HTC Sync and Android SDK installed
2. Copy bootanimation.zip to SD Card
3. Turn off Desire and then turn it on while holding back button to enter bootloader(white screen)
4. Once in "white screen" press power button again to enter bootloader
5. Connect Desire with PC
6. Press Volume Down and than Power to enter Recovery
7. Open Command prompt/Terminal and type
Code:
adb shell mount /system
adb push C:\bootanimation.zip /data/local
adb reboot
Click to collapse
8. Unplug your HTC and enjoy your new boot animation
Alternative method to install a custom boot animation (without Recovery Mode - by MasDroid)
1. You need to have HTC Sync and Android SDK installed (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html).
2. To get adb running on the Windows OS platform, for example, download & extract the Android SDK to the following path: %SystemDrive%\android-sdk-windows (e.g. C:\android-sdk-windows)
3. Turn on your phone and connect it to your PC via a USB port.
4. Place the downloaded bootanimation.zip into the same folder as the adb app (in the tools folder of the SDK).
5. Open command prompt and type cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools, hit enter.
6. Type adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local, hit enter.
7. Reboot phone.

That is how to change "second" boot animation, but he wont's to change "first" bootanimation, the one with white background and green htc logo
Have no idea how to remove it, but would like to know it too
Dang It!
Yep that's it.... but I imagine that the chance of sending some sort of RTFM was so sweet to fog out the actual question (some of... us share the same behavior)
... probably I should have been more clear on my request.
At the moment I'm still searching around for some clues and I will report here all my findings.
.... c'mon... the first ugly splash is displayed way longer than the second... and if that isn't enough.... it's ugly
You need the engineering SPL. Impossible to do otherwise.
So I need the piece of software everybody is waiting for...
HTC must be very proud of their logo if they make it so hard to get rid of it. Even boot messages would look better ;-)
Well, thanks a lot for the info !
S-OFF is now available! Just installed on my Telstra Desire and changed the splash1 screen successfully!

Me too! There are guides and even a 1-click splash screen replacement application which is flippin' awesome. I've made my splash, but now to work on the boot animation so that the whole lot is seamless, right up until loaded.... watch this space.

I actually meant changing the 1st boot screen img, and for your information I read these forums every single day.
I gave up following xda for barked answers like that one... go see a shrink and be polite, or don't bother answer.
For the s-off question, it's a quite straight forward operation, I don't have time right now but I' ll make a step by step how to that I hope will help with doubts.
Hi,
Your Desire needs to be S-OFF, Than you need to use fastboot to flash the new bootscreen:
fastboot flash splash1 yourbootscreen.img

I was wondering about the very same thing a while ago. This is what I have learned:
TO BEGIN WITH, YOUR PHONE MUST BE S-OFF. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS THREAD IF YOUR PHONE ISN'T S-OFF.
In order to flash your custom splash1 image, prepare a *.BMP image with size corresponding to your device's display size (which in case of the Desire is 480x800). Make sure the image is in 24-bit color space (true colors), 16 or 32-bit images wont work.
When you have the image prepared, download a tool called NBIMG (you'll find it here on XDA). Put your image and nbimg.exe into the same directory, open up command prompt and then navigate to the folder where you've placed the files. I'll use c:\nbimg as an expamle.
To convert the image to the smartphone format, issue the following commands:
Code:
chdir c:\nbimg
nbimg.exe -F mycustomimage.bmp -w 480 -h 800
This will create mycustomimage.bmp.nb file. If you want to be sure everything went alright, convert this file back to *.bmp format by using this command:
Code:
nbimg.exe -F mycustomimage.bmp.nb -w 480 -h 800
This will create mycustomimage.bmp.nb.bmp. Open this file and compare it to your original image. If the images match (no artifacts, inverted colors, etc.), you are good to go and you can proceed to flash the image to the phone using fastboot.
Take your converted image (mycustomimage.bmp.nb) and replace the .bmp.nb part with .img suffix so the resulting file is named mycustomimage.img. Now take this *.img file and put it to the tools subdirectory inside your Android SDK installation folder (fastboot.exe must be in said subdirectory, as I will use the path as an example).
Connect the phone to your computer and enable usb debugging.
Navigate to folder inside the Android SDK where adb.exe is located (older revisions of the SDK have it inside tools subdir, latest SDK has it inside platform-tools subdir). Reboot your device to bootloader mode through adb by issuing the following commands:
Code:
chdir c:\AndroidSDK\tools
adb.exe start-server
adb.exe reboot bootloader
When the phone reboots into bootloader, issue the following command to flash the image into the phone:
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 mycustomimage.img
Now reboot your phone using this command:
Code:
fastboot reboot
Enjoy your new custom splash1 image, you're all done
And if you let me, I'd like to share a few images I have created myself. They're nothing extra, just a quick and noobish work in GIMP, so if you don't like them, please, don't download them and don't troll. I won't react on comments saying "your images are fugly" or anything else alike
Download the *.img files by clicking on corresponding images.

[Q] I cant get permroot can someone please help ???

Ok people I'm pathetic.... I rooted using visionary installed titanium backup pro, astro, terminal emulator. I downloaded the root.rar files and put them onto the sd card. Unhooked my phone opened terminal typed su+enter but when I tried the sec command it wouldn't work I then went back into astro and h_boot and wpx are white in color and when I press on one of them it says file type ko not found. Can someone please please help me!!!! Do I have to have adb installed in order for the root.rar files to be found . Thank u very m much in advance. And if this is not the correct place to post this at let me know and I will move it thank u
Check out mackesters channel on YouTube he's got a good tutorial
Hey, you probably done all this... But thought I'd give a crack at it...
When trying to root using visionary
Quickly check these:
-did you have fastboot from >settings>applications turned off?
-was Set system r/w after root from visionary app checked?
-Temproot first
-Attempt permroot next
-Phone should reboot and you should see Super User app in the drawer.
Then follow the instructions here
If you wish to use root explorer to push the gfree file to /data/local you can do so too, its easier than adb commands.
Hope this helps. Good luck man.
Please post questions in the Q&A section.
Use root file explorer not Astro, check my signature. Also you said you downloaded the root.rar and placed it on sd, did you unzip it first?
Fastboot was off rw on. I don't know if I unzipped root.rar or not all I did was download it right click on it extracted to F drive moved to sd and in terminal is said not found our something when I entered the sec command.i did a factory reset so I'm starting fresh. What did I do wrong ? Thank u awesome people in advance
You sure you put the right file? Coz there are two gfree files...

Are you doing this in the phone or thru a pc via adb? If adb also copy the files from root.rar to sdk/tools then adb will see them

CM7 / AOSP Boot sound [working]

Another user asked for this, and I helped him through it, so I decided to post it here so everyone can have access to it. I didn't create the file, just came across it one day being bored..I digress.
Credit to barnacles10 and lithid-cm
*NOTE: Anything in brackets is either description of what is happening or an action you need to perform; don't type in anything in brackets*
What you need to do to get a boot sound on CM7/AOSP is the following.
1. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/bootsnd.sh Apparently some people had issues with the first link, so I uploaded it again. Download that file, place on your sdcard.
2. Take whatever sound you want and rename it to: android_audio.mp3 [needs to be mp3 format] and then place in your adb tools folder.
3. On your phone, open terminal emulator, and type in the following:
su [enter]
cd /sdcard [enter]
ls [to list all files, you should see bootsnd.sh]
sh bootsnd.sh [enter]
You won't see a confirmation, or message, it just runs, and returns you to a # sign.
From your computer, adb push the android_audio.mp3 to the /system/media folder, reboot, and you'll have a sound.
If you don't like / know how to use adb, using root explorer and placing the android_audio.mp3 in the system/media folder works just as well. Reboot, and enjoy your boot sound.
*NOTE*
If you flash / change roms, you'll have to re-run the process to enable the boot sound again. If you get tired of it / don't want it, you can use root explorer and delete the file.
Alternate method:
For those that don't like using the terminal emulator, you can do it via adb:
navigate to your adb folder via commanda prompt, then issue the following commands:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /sdcard
ls [will list files, you should see bootsnd.sh]
sh bootsnd.sh
Like in the emulator, you will be returned with a # sign. Then place the audio file in the folder I specified. Just decided like posting an alt method. Enjoy.
Nice post I'm going to do this now!

The file should save as a .sh. If it doesn't show up as .sh when you are saving it, save it as all file types, and that should work as well.
If you double click it, it should prompt you with the "no program found...do you want to...blah blah" And it should show bootsound.sh

Well AOSP roms [i.e CM7] wasn't designed to have boot souns, so it probably won't be integrated [my speculation].
And if you ever want to "thank" anyone, at the bottom of every post, you'll see a "thanks" button, and then you have "thanked" them, and the user can see it.

Ok just tried this without using adb as I think its million times better to just use a ftp app and get this done in seconds. But I dont know why its not working. I check the name to make sure I wasnt putting in the .mp3 twice and for some reason it wont play the file. And its in MP3 format.
I had some that wouldn't play for some reason too. Try a different mp3 file and see id it work. If not did u get the bootsnd file placed on the root of sd card and pushed the file with adb. Or my preferred method terminal emulator.

[splash screens] htc wildfire -- all about using splash screens.

Hi everyone..
I just wanted to tell how to create and use custom splash screens on the wildfire. The process im telling is already present in the desire forum. Im just applying little changes to make it work on the wildfire...
The splash screen is the first image u see just after switching on the wildfire. Not to be confused with the "boot animation" which occurs after the splash screen. This thread is only related to the splash screens.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS NEEDED FOR THIS :
1. A wildfire with S-OFF . The version of the hboot doesn't matter. And also rooted phone or unrooted phone doesn't matter. Just s-off needed.
2. A bitmap image (.bmp) with 320 x 240 resolution. U can edit this image as u like using any programs. But its resolution should be 320 x 240 and also its color depth should be 24 bit. This is the image that you are about to see as the splash screen.
3. NBIMG command line program. This is a tool useful for the interconversion of (.bmp) files and (.nb) files. Download the tool according to ur platform from the link here:
[release] nbimg: HTC splash screen tool . What im telling is related to windows platform here. But u can apply it to linux also.
4. android-win-tools.zip ( link ) + HTCDriver_2.0.7.17.exe ( link ) ( needed only if u want to use the fastboot flashing method).
*** please use the browser to see the commands here (which are in bold).
CREATING THE SPLASH FILE :
---Make sure that u r able to view the file extensions of known file types in ur pc (folder options).
---Download the NBIMG and extract it to a shorter and known path on ur computer. Keep the necessary bitmap image file in this path (to make it easy). Rename the image to "splash1.bmp"
---Then open command prompt and CD to the folder where NBIMG exists.
---Then type the command nbimg -F splash1.bmp -w 240 -h 320 and press enter. This creates "splash1.bmp.nb" file in that directory. Now rename this file to "splash1.img". [Although u can also use the (.nb) file which means renaming to "splash1.nb"] That's all about creating the splash file.
---The above command is actually for the interconversion of (.nb) and (.bmp) files. Suppose if u have the file "splash1.nb", then u can have a bitmap image of that by entering the command nbimg -F splash1.nb -w 240 -h 320 (which creates "splash1.nb.bmp"). Here, provided sometimes u should know the resolution of "nb" file.
FLASHING THE SPLASH FILE :
Once the "splash1.img" is created, u can flash it in 2 ways. One is PC49IMG PROCESS. And the other is FASTBOOT FLASH PROCESS. If you have any issues related to one process, then try the other process.
---PC49IMG PROCESS : For anything to be flashed from pc49img process, there should be "android-info.txt" file from official update. U can find it even in below attached zip files. So, u need to pack both the "splash1.img" and "android-info.txt" into a zip file. Then rename this zip file into "PC49IMG.ZIP" (with file extensions shown) . Here all these file names should be like this and shouldn't be changed. And regarding "splash1.img" in this process, its file name should be "splash1" and its file extension can be "nb" or "nb0" or "img". Seems like im confusing u, but pls don't get confused. Just use the file name as "splash1.img" . Then put this PC49IMG.ZIP file to the root of sdcard (fat32) and reboot into hboot menu from where u can install that. And after successfully having the splash screen, donot forget to remove the pc49img file from memory card (just because it irritates u whenever u enter the hboot menu).
---FASTBOOT FLASH PROCESS : Im just making this noob friendly. If you have the knowledge of adb, then you can do it in your own style . Download android-win-tools.zip and extract its contents to the root of C drive of your PC. Then download HTCDriver_2.0.7.17.exe and install it in your windows PC. Now open command prompt and type the command C: and press enter. This takes you to the root of C drive in command prompt. Also put your splash1.img in the root of C drive of PC. Then boot the wildfire into "fast boot mode" and connect it to PC with usb cable. Then enter the command prompt command fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img. That's all u have a new splash screen. If success, it says okay, else it shows errors. The last part of the command is file name and it need not be the same as far as fastboot flashing is concerned (I mean "splash1.img" here can be even renamed to anything like say "abc.xyz" to be flashed with the command "fastboot flash splash1 abc.xyz".
[And for those who are using "ADB Environment Variables", i think u know everything. U should keep the "splash1.img" file in the command prompt CD folder and then u can go through it]
****** I have attached the alpharev qvga splash screen along with 4 other samples (all along with pictures). I have also attached the htc wildfire default splash screen. So, for warranty purposes, u can just use that stock one. I have extracted it from the eclair RUU (splash1.nb0). As far as this process is concerned, the file extensions "nb0" , "nb" , "img" can be just interchanged.
And to use the below attached files, U can just rename the zip files to "PC49IMG.ZIP" and flash through hboot menu. Or u can extract the "splash1.img" and flash it through fastboot flash method. And pls correct for any error.
Bmp => nb (conversion with nbimg)
Nb (or) nb0 (or) img -----> PC49IMG process or FASTBOOT FLASH PROCESS.

Hi Bharat
Can you perhaps show the bmp file of the splash image? I know that for most of them it can be found in the zip file itself, but it would make it more accessable
Allow me to post mine as well it is a very simple one, but (for the moment) I like it more than the one from HTC.

Allow me to post mine as well it is a very simple one, but (for the moment) I like it more than the one from HTC.

Certainly rooting and custom rom won't touch the splash screen. Previously alpharev for desire while doing the s-off process changed the splash screen I think. But alpharevX didn't do that. Maybe final release does. And even though we can have their qvga splash screen.

Which one did u flash. Or have u made ur own.
And r u talking about boot animation.
BTW, if u r on CM7 then what u r saying is boot animation which is different from splash screen. To check the splash screen just switch off the device and then switch on. The 1st image u see is splash screen. It will be just picture and not animated.
The phone must be S-OFF to use custom splash? I've my Wildfire rooted but it is NOT s-off, can't I use them?
Thanks.

I made one myself and I run cm7, before I tried to flash the splash it showed the htc logo and then a custom bootanimation, win95 bios, I installed. Now instaid of showing the htc logo it shows the 3 androids on a skate board.
If you can make a pic149.. zip for me I would really appreciate it. Here is the picture in jpeg.

No u cannot use it AFAIK. Rooting doesn't matter. S-OFF skips the signature check of zip files to be updated, that is how pc49img method works. And also fastboot flash cannot be enabled with s-on.
So, with s-on u can use only the splash images given by htc to wildfire (because those things were signed by htc)

Dont know what gone wrong with ur process. And i have made yours. Just put the attached file in the root of memory card and boot into hboot menu from where u can update it. And donot forget to remove the file from memory card after successfully having the splash screen.

edit:IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! thank again, however I still don't know what I did wrong
NOw at last my phone is fully mine
Just resized a splashscreen from another thread. HVGA to QVGA. Thanks to TrueBlue_Drew for the original.
hmm...I'm having some problem too. Not sure what the issue is - I have a 32 bit bmp - or well actually 4. I want to be able to switch between screens, but there's something wrong - 1. Do the files have to be 24 Bit, is 32 bit too much?
attaching both the image I use currently and the pc49img I flashed...or not, picture too big ;p
Picture is supposed to look like that but what I get is 4 split cans in black and white...as in error NTSC / PAL video...to describe...

They must be in 24 bit format yes, as Wildfire doesn't have a 32 bit screen.

Change Splash Screen (Working on Pie)

First of all, thank you a lot
@hanspampel (For the zip)
@pendor24 (For your tutorial --- https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/tuto-custom-splash-screen-s8-sm-g955f-t3623368)
@Redline (for adb)
everyone that ever contributed to this platform
Required:
1. PC with Windows
2. ADB Drivers (https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4623157&d=1540039037)
3. Patience
Steps:
1. Open 1 CMD inside of ADB folder.
2. Type:
Code:
adb shell
Code:
su
(There should be a Magisk pop-up on your phone. Grant it.)
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/11120000.ufs/by-name/UP_PARAM of=/sdcard/up_param.bin
Code:
mkdir /sdcard/up_param
Code:
cd /sdcard/up_param
Code:
tar xf /sdcard/up_param.bin
3. Now, go to your internal storage and you'll find a folder named param.bin. Inside, there are many .jpg. Search the logo.jpg
Using any program, edit it as you like. !!! THE FILE SHOULD NOT BE >400KB !!!
Name it logo.jpg (Just like this. Not anything else).
Copy the logo.jpg on root of your internal storage (not in a folder).
4. Type:
Code:
exit
Code:
su
Code:
cp -f /sdcard/logo.jpg /sdcard/up_param/logo.jpg
Code:
cd /sdcard/up_param
Code:
tar cf - `ls | sort -t.` > /sdcard/up_param.bin
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/up_param.bin of=/dev/block/platform/11120000.ufs/by-name/UP-PARAM
5. If everything worked, there should be no error. Now reboot. The splash is NOT CHANGED YET. Now we'll change it.
6. Download the zip attached.
7. Open it. Inside there is a logo.jpg. Replace it with your logo.jpg.
8. Save the zip. Copy it on your internal storage.
9. Flash it using TWRP.
10. Profit.
I can make custom splash screens for a very small donation (1$). I would like to buy a laptop for college, so everything helps!. Thanks in advance!
Examples
Soon I will post a tutorial on how to change boot animation/shut down animation

Appreciate the offer, but I always make my own stuff. NOW, if you were doing custom boot anim's, we could talk. My animations always look f'd up when i'm done. LoL
There is no need to do the steps to extract logo.jpg from param.
i just flashed my custom logo zip directly from TWRP recovery and changed the bootlogo.
if you want to go back to stock boot splash
either flash stock bootloader via odin or
flash the zip of stock boot splash via TWRP.

For some devices, like mine, the param step is required. IDK why, but glad it works for you anyway!
Superuser one I made, it's pretty minimal and for not having the front and just copy paste-ing it looks pretty good.
Anyone have a note 10 splash for our note 9? just a simple stock note 10 screen without any changes...

Ripped it from a Note10+ splash changer and removed the + and shifted Knox thing over. Might look a little different but should be fine.
Why would you honestly want the note 10 or 10 plus splash screen on a note 9? do you want it that bad but can't really get it that you want to make your 9 seem like a 10 just so you can stop wanting it so bad

Agreed. That's just so weird.
I'm going to buy a Tesla emblem, and go stick it on my nice lil Mazda 3. This way I can confuse myself and others.
Does this work on the unlocked Snapdragon model? (N9600)
Has anyone tested it?
Does this also work on a Note 10+/Exynos with Android 10? Anyone tried it?
In case of a bootloop etc., can I just flash stock bootloader via odin and undo all?
How can I flash the zip without TWRP ? I don't have a custom ROM just Magisk root!
