Hi guys, The time has now come where I finally get to upgrade my phone. This means goodbye to my beloved HTC HD2.
What may be arguebly the best phone to come out of the HTC factory really has come along way starting life on a dying/dead WM6.5 OS, then the the android development started and next thing we knew android was fully running via SD card. Then came the day where the amazing developers on this site dropped NAND boot and this is the day the HD2 Became AMAZING!!
Its been an awsome 24 months, I know ive not really posted on this site much but I have been reading and following all the hard work the amazing developers on this site have put in and I just want to take this time to say THANK YOU ALL!! without you the HD2 wouldnt have been the device it is today.
After much consideration I have decided to try something new and will be taking delivery of my Iphone 4S tomorrow. But I just have this feeling I will be back here sooner or later.
BIG RESPECT!!

With all of the repeated "Stuck at the stick together screen", "wont turn on" comments and threads I have seen. I am wondering if it is even worth buying another one of these phones. Just curious and no this will not help my decision, but I am curious of how long have some of you had your HD2's? Is there anybody that still have their HD2 since launch?
Had mine since March 2010, bought it from someone who got it at launch. Far better today than it was a year ago running an N1 build!
Have never had to send it for repair or anything like that. (Touch wood)

I've had my phone for about a year, traded my iPhone 3G to some dude for it, ran WinMo stock till the day HSPL for the tmous version came out, then I was on NRG ROM. Been flashing **** all the time since with zero issues.
Those "won't turn on" comments are made by people who are uninformed or careless. It says about a thousand times "don't flash a .51 radio or 2.04.xx etc..." and yet someone inevitably does and then wonders why his phone is bricked. I wouldn't worry man this phone is a beast when treated right.
Thanks for the comments, I lied, the replies so far have made me reconsider buying another lol...
I have owned my HD2 for 8 months now and it is the best phone I have ever had. Heck I have been trying out every phone my friends have and that are usable display models in yhe stores and I have found none that is as capable and functional as the HD2. I know a lot of that has to do with the Windows Mobile OS. But even when I run Andriod on my HD2 it still runs better than any native Andriod phone I have had hands in experience with.
I did send my original HD2 in for exchange cause it got to where I had to press the reset button up to ten times everytime I turned the phone off or tried to do a soft reset via a soft reset app. Cause it would hang on the Windows splash screen at boot that many times before finally booting all the way into Windows. Still not quit sure if it was the phone are me but my replacement has given me no problems, but I have a lot better understanding of how to use Win Mo now too.
Still the HD2 is a top notch phone and in my oppinion will be so for a long time. I plan to use mine until it completely dies, and then if I can find replacement parts still I am going to fix it lol.
Bought mine at launch and left it sitting around until HSPL was available then I finally started playing around I loved it so much I bought a second one from a friend who turned out not to like it. Ironically my newer HD2 that I got from my friend lost the speaker after a few months of use and my original one which was still under warranty has never had one problem since I bought it. I started to get a little bit bored with my phone for a while there but once MAGLDR came out I fell in love with it once again. I've owned my fair share of phones but my HD2 will always have a special place in my heart
Right on, I agree. I seen an article somewhere, might of been on XDA, but they were saying how much of a power house in regards to modding, the HD2 was. Being able to flash Android, WINMO 7, custom WINMO 6.5 Roms, Linux-Ubuntu makes this thing a modders dream lol....Guess I'll get back on the band wagon.
have had mine since november 2010. was previously using a touch pro 2 but was itching to get a hd2. good thing my tp2 got stolen and insurance replaced it with my choice hd2 (mind you i was offered a mozart or a desire). no regrets whatsoever and i see myself using this phone for quite a long time.
Had mine since launch, not one single issue...(apart from ones I caused)
No touchscreen fails.
No sticking at bootscreen.
No overheating.
Nothing. Just pure joy
If T-Mobile still had stock of these beauty's I'd use my upgrade to get another one.
Sent from my fingers to your face...
Had mine for a year now, done all sorts of mods to it when it was only running WinMo,only recently flashed a new radio and hspl so I could start playing with android.
Not had any issues, this thing rocks....

Best phone to date I have ever owned. Never had a problem. Running android. Would buy another in a heartbeat.
Bought my HD2 3 days before the US launch and haven't had a single problem with it. Best phone arounds hands down!

Thumbs Up to that
Bought my HD2 as sn as it was launched here over an year ago.
Its still feeling fresh thanks to the amazing customizations options via XDA...
Now waiting for GB-Sense stable port...after that for IC...HD2 is a model that stand up to anything thrown at it...the most customizable mobile in the world
I have mine for a year now and have bad problem with overheating... gettin new one from insurance...
Just bought another, going to pick it up today!!!!! Loved my Samsung Vibrant, sold it to my sister and bought a HD7 and HD2, sold the HD7 yesterday lol
Almost a Year with No Problems
I have had my HD2 for almost a year. I still have the original stock ROM (2.13.531) and radio (2.10.50.26). I didn't even do the official upgrade that came out a few months ago. I did move the phone to AT&T (minor speed drop for data), and add Co0kies' Home Tab, but that's about it. I have had no problems I couldn't fix. I did discover that if you do not put the battery in exactly right, the phone won't start. The battery looks like it's seated, but there is small gap. I have had only a handful of lockups, due to applications. I have not had to use my backup. Even with Edge only on AT&T, I enjoy my HD2.
This thread is inspired by the thread for Nook Color saying how the NC is the honda civic of tablets.
So the HD2 is much cheaper than a sensation or sg2, obviously not as nice. But the screen size is just as big, and there are so many roms for this thing.
And I just checked on amazon, and the going rate for a brand new HD2 is about 290 usd. That's half as much as a sensation, and about 1/3 as much as an sg2.
If all you do is check email, or make calls on your phone anyway, do you really need the newest dual core phone?
Hopefully, if prices continue to fall for the HD2, my next phone might still be an HD2 lol

I would say the HD2...the T-Mobile US version...is more like the Hummer of smartphones. It's super durable and can handle just about any task given it. It can also be clothed in many different ROMs to perform the specific tasks associated with each one. And it can run at least two ROMs at a time.
My original HD2 finally started failing in the card slot and I replaced it with a brand new one just a few days ago. But I got a solid 2 years of non-stop enjoyment from it. That says a lot about a phone when you own one for a lengthy period of time like 2 years and then go lay down the dough for another one exactly like it. But my new one came unlocked and with the 2.15.50.14 radio. All I had to do was hack it and put Android on it.
Yeahh i hear what your saying. I still love my HD2 and I haven't seen a phone that has come out that I was more excited about than the HD2. The only one that has come close was the Acer IconiaTab a101, but since they came out with the a100 first, I dont have time to wait another 8 months to upgrade to it. Im thinking the new hotness of dual core phones will replace my HD2. Strictly for the power alone. The HD2 will forever be the king of dev phones though. I have spent days just fooling around with the phone and updating stuff and testing roms. I will be sure to pick a new phone with the same romming abilities. HTC needs to unlock their bootloaders before its too late. Nice thread though... HD2! Bow your heads!

That's the sad part. There are no other phones that will do all of the ROMs the HD2 will do. Not because they aren't capable, but because no devs are working on anything other than Androids for them.
The HD2 will go down in history as the one and only modders-choice phone...unless a phone shows up that modders would bother to do all of the various OSes for, like they did with the HD2. It would have to be a super popular phone though.
I've only owned my HD2 for 8 months now, but I absolutely love it. I don't regret buying it at all. It helps me study for school. And thus not a waste of money at all.
And I hate signing up for 2 year contracts just for a phone, so I buy them off amazon or ebay (but ebay is a bad choice imo).
If you want a 4.3 inch screen for your phone, this is the best bang for your buck. And my HD2 lets me wait for the quad core phones with the even bigger screens to come out.
had my HD2 for 2 months now and it really is the best. had my kaiser (still working) for 4 years and was reluctant to change. i still need winmo 6 for best GPS (have TomTom and iGO) but android is catching up on that side. and theres no other phone that will do that.
winmo 7 is no good to me.
original winmo and android on SD is best for now.
ultimate will be when (if?) winmo is released for SD so i can run android on nand.
i assume this will still be legal(ish) as my phone came with licensed winmo 6?
Yea, i love the HD2.
I think you have to be a certain type of person to like it though. You have to know about computers.
I think that the original rom for the HD2 was un-usable. If i didnt know how to change it, i think i would have destryoed the phone after a year of dispair.
But since there is a great world of developer teams out there who have created some brilliant roms and radios, theres always upgrading to be done. Something new to put on after evey week or so.
And then now ive flashed WP7 and its the best thing ive ever done! Brand new phone, no akwardness with 'OK' buttons that actually exit the application (im sure you know what im talking about). No more ickiness.
Just need the right SD card and it works like a charm (give you have the patience to find the right one!)
HD2 is still the King as per Cotulla.....
Just joking
No hard feelings. LOL.
My real question is do you think HD2 development will die and finish in next 3-6 months after creating successful ICS ports of CM9, AOKP and SENSE 4.
My opinion is that we have 6 more months of development and maybe 1-2 years of use ICS roms before HD2 era ends. I've been using HD2 for 2 years and but i think in next 12-24 months it will be retirement of most HD2's.
Little digression. Main reason i see for leaving HD2 is becouse i want less freedom with phone. LOL. Sounds funny but i keep changing ROMs more often than i change my socks. I use my HD2 more for trying and testing different ROM's than i do for talking This device is so good that it cant even be called a phone or smartphone. Other reason for leaving is that i really like new HTC One X but im afraid that no other phone will be as much as fun as HD2.

Lol that title is a pretty good way to gain attention Yeah I would agree with you on the 6 months max more development time although I reckon realistically it will be between 3 and 4 months. I also understand exactly what you mean about the phone being too diverse, we're completely spoiled for choice Since around November I've definitely noticed a massive lull in the amount of activity in the HD2 forum (looking specifically at the Q&A) so soon we're going to be out of developers and development. However, I plan to use my HD2 pretty much until it is unusable really, I'm not on a contract and I see no point upgrading too hastily, only had it since Jan 2011
A year ago i broke my HD2 and after i used hd desire>optimus 3D>nokia lumia today i bought my second HD2.
i was missing old times when i used to "play" with my phone. i dont think people will forget HD2 easily and always will be a smart guy to develop for it.
I bought a nokia lumia on the first day it was out for 500 euro and after few month i am gifting it to my mom. it suck , all those money and i couldn't stop the screen from rotating when i was lied on bed. all those kind of lock they made to prevent any modification of the device software.
developing for HD2 probably will stop the same day it stop for every phone. Big companies are "buying" developers (!chevron) to prevent what happen to HD2. All these years and we are still using that phone. updating to the last software without spending any money.
I agree and will be purchasing a Samsung galaxy s 2 in the near future. I just feel with phones like the HTC one x developers will have more power to work with (eg quad core processor) and our lousy 1ghz won't be enough to pull through, however I'm too poor to own a HTC one x however in my dreams I own many

I just got my 3rd HD2 & your right denyboy this phones has a grip on us & it needs to release us from it's powers!
No other phone I had(knew) that had so many tinkering & updating, the last phone I spent much time tinkering was the XDA II
maybe next iteration would be Banana Split or Goober Goo Goo
been using my hd2 for a year and i am the happiest guy on earth but its showing signs of age so yeah maybe use it as it was really intended a windows phone as development there seems to be still going strong
I think that the HD2 still has a bit more future ahead. Even if the new hardware is / will be faster then the HD2. I just saw this posting and was very impressed!:

So, if this could be ported to HD2... *puh* there could be future
After 14hrs of trying to revive my dear friend it finally gave up the ghost, my HTC HD2 was the most amazing phone i've ever laid hands on. I had this phone almost 3 1/2 years and not once did it disappoint me.......every and i mean every type of rom or app or anything to make the HD2 better this phone had. I know nothing last forever but this phone has made it difficult for me to purchase another like it or anything out like it. So my time here has come to a sudden end but before i cancel out i just wanted to give my greatest gratitude to every developer past and present for taking their precious time to keep everybodies favorite phone kicking with the rest. Thank you for your dedication and talent and for those still rocking the HTC HD2....cherish it like it is an endangered species. Signing out-Scortareo.
Now its been 2 years with the HTC HD2 and I was really excited about what the phone actually can do.
I cheated in my finals, I lost my gf, anyway when I was in trouble, in a ****ty situation my HD2 helped me with any app, mod or anything.
From now my new mate will be the HTC One. The Change had only one reason: my HD2 was too 'old' and 'slow' for me.
I wanted a newer one, a faster one with more tweaks and mods.
But I didn't want, that my HD2 RIP and wastes in my showcase. So what I did is: flashed the latest rom (Touchwizmod), and gave it to my younger sister with the wise words: it can be your best friend, it was my light in the darkness. Handle it good!
So I think this was a good decision 'cause my sister is also interested in modding.
Yesterday I checked the last time the threads of http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=928, I did a last full wipe, charged the battery full and plugged my charger off for ever.
All in all, it was a long journey with you my pal, but for now i have to say thank you and have to reach the crown of smartphones further.
Still a better love story than Twilight
Personally im torn bout selling my oldie, pissed of by Android, moved to WP. Let's see how it can impress me ( marketplace SUX BALLS )
