Releasing an alpha version for xda-members to experience Honeycomb in their GTABS. First and foremost, thanks to Roebeet, MrGUY, DJ_Steve, pershoot and the rest of adam devs who helped us port Honeycomb.
WARNING:
This will update your bootloader to 1.2 version (need to be on 3588 for this combo to work)
Whats working..
1. Wifi, BT
2. Touchscreen
3. buttons
4 Browser, Gmail
5. Market
6 gapps
What is not working..
1. OpenGL
2. Camera (because of OpenGl)
3. No flash yet

******* YOU NEED TO BE ON 3588 STOCK and STOCK RECOVERY (NO CWM) BEFORE FLASHING THIS COMBO******
INSTRUCTIONS #1
1. Nvflash to 3588 STOCK DO NOT USE CWM FOR 3588
2. Do not install CWM (we need the stock recovery)
3. DO NOT INSTALL CWM (we need the stock recovery)
4. PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL CWM
5. Reboot
6. RENAME COMBO FILE NAME TO Update.zip
7. Move Update.zip to /sdcard folder
8. Unzip recover.zip and move recovery folder to /sdcard folder
8. Turn off
10. Press Power+Volume up then this will install Update.zip
The reason we don't install CWM for 3588 is because this won't install the bootloader
Instruction #2
1. Rename Combo file to Update.zip and place in /sdcard folder
2. Unzip recovery.zip and put recovery folder in /sdcard
3. Update to NVFLASH to 1.2-4349 using this image
http://www.mediafire.com/?g7vorg66iiq29vm
4. Enter recovery by pressing Power Button+Volume up
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO FROYO AND STAY IN 1.2 bootloader here is a link for my Combo version 6

I am currently running gojimi vegan ginger rc1. What will I have to do if I want to go back, and how are storage partitions mapped on this Rom ?
cool! can't wait to try this. waiting patiently for rom to be uploaded and installation instructions to be posted...
Can't wait to finally try this when I get a few days off!
Question: After trying this and having the bootloader upgraded, will I be able to easily revert back to Clemsyn -Calkulin 1.5 with the new bootloader or will I have to nvflash?
I had to use nflash to go between the two bootloaders. My apps are usually remaining or you can use Titanium to get them back.
Awesome build running smooth already glad someone posted this here

Thanks for posting it here Clemsyn. I really didn't want to sign up for another forum so I can ask question haha.
Anyways, when you say gmail is working, is it fully functional? I thought there were shader (or something like that) issues that prevented us to see the body of the email.
Also, is flash in the browser working?
Those are my two must haves if I am going to switch to HC.
Thanks in advance.

No flash yet. There is a hacked gmail.apk that works fine. I am using it now, and only flash is not working of everything I personally use. The devs are very close now.
I apologize for the delay, it wasn't done uploading yet and I needed to go to my kid's science project (he won 5th place). Just got home so I posted the link on first page. BTW, gmail is also fixed.

actually flash is technically working just fine...it's the opengl shader issues causing it not to display properly...opengl is also causing the gmail app issues (alt app in place as a temp fix, now) and opengl issues are causing a few other apps to have issues as well...once opengl is resolved then this will be a practically perfect build, imo been running it for about a week now with all the updating and love it!!

Thanks clemsyn for sharing this, so whats the difference between this and Roebeets versions released on slatedriod ?
hey, clemsyn...when you get back online, I have a question for you. A lot of the current talk in the Adam dev chat is that a .36 or newer kernel will resolve many of the current issues (OpenGL specifically)...I was wondering if maybe you had a newer version kernel in the works or not for the gtab? If so, how's it coming along? If not, how tough do you think it would be to develop a .36 version of the kernel? Thanks for everything, man. Have a good one.
Is Dolphin HD working on this?
Thanks to clemsyn & roebeet for porting this from the Adam.
Stuck on boot
Hey Roebeet, its been awhile but I'm back and ready for HoneyComb. I folowed your directions. I used NvFlash to get back to 3588. I then installed CWM .08 and partitioned internal 2048 and 0. I put the zip on internal and installed via CWM. Now it hangs on the viewsonic white screen? Any Ideas?
Theres already a 2.3.32.40 overclocked kernal out. Is that not what you are wanting?

it's 2.6.32.40...the 40 is the version number of the .32 kernel...they are looking for a x.x.36.x kernel to possibly resolve the issues with opengl...

I think this guys issue stems from the fact that he installed cwm. This rom needs to be installed with the stock bootloader.
Well I have the same issue, I wiped, but nothing. When I flashed the file, it said unknown command bootloader, bla bla.
Pretty sure thats the issue, I was running 3588 ...dont know whats up.
I get the same results with the unknown command bootloader. I've tried wiping all data after the installing the rom and the gtab still gets hung up. This is coming from using nvflash to 3588 and a repartition.
Can someone please explain to me how to go from Bionix 1.3.1 to ICS? I have read a lot (perhaps too much) about GB bootloaders, etc. but am not sure what is required.
Do I need to have a GB ROM installed before going to ICS?
I have also seen guides for going from 2.1 to ICS, but that is not my situation.
I guess my main area of ignorance is that I have never flashed any bootloader of any kind.
If I go to ICS and want to restore my Froyo backup do I need to flash a bootloader before I do that?
Obviously I'm confused about the whole process.
Thanks for any clarification you can give me.
See my guide to go from 2.1 to ICS and one if the top lines tells you how to go from Froyo to ICS.
GB bootloaders are no longer needed but suggested. Probably the only scary part of the whole process, but it is actually the easiest.
CM7 needed before ICS or not?
From a post in the same thread as your guide:
"
If you want a stable 2.2 try Toxic8 (I run this with Gingerbread theme as my "home" ROM when I am not testing), Deranged9, Bionix (no longer supported) and Bionix Fishman's version (this is supported), Bi-winning. All you have to do to flash these is follow the instructions above and when it comes time to flashCM7, skip it and flash the ROM of your choice."
Does this mean that if I have Bionix already that I don't need to go to CM7 before ICS?
There are a couple of ICS Roms where you can come from froyo. You have to probably flash it twice to get into the specific cwm.
To get back to you bionix, you have to use Odin to get back to stock.

This is from a different thread in a different context. Someone was asking how to flash a custom ROM, IIRC.
If you want ICS, you have to flash CM7 first, let it bootloop, pull the battery, reflash and then once it settles, flash ICS.
Also, don't apologize for being detailed or thinking that you are reading into too much, Wished more were like this.
From the Guide
This is for a clean install. You can also install straight from Froyo. Just start at the CM7 part below and skip the Odin portion.

so any luck with getting to ICS from bionix 1.3.1...cause im still in the same spot...and im very wary as to what to do as well...so if any luck...please let me what you did...
I just did it
If you follow the instructions in the Passion ICS thread it's pretty straightforward. I had never used Odin before even though I had flashed Bionix almost a year ago. I'm not a phone guru, just somebody who likes to mess with these custom ROMs.
These steps are high level, you can find specific links in numerous places.
Here's what I did:
- Download Odin
- Download the required files to flash the phone back to stock 2.1 (.pit file and .tar file)
- Backup apps with Titanium (don't bother backing up the system it's different in newer versions anyway and all you'll have is trouble if you try to restore system settings)
- Backup anything else you feel is important on your internal and external SD cards
- Use Odin to flash the phone back to stock
- Root the phone (using the update.zip technique)
- Install clockwork recovery (I found an update.zip for this too)
- Flash the Cyanogenmod version of ICS (no longer under development but you need it for the boot loaders). You will likely encounter a boot loop in this process. Don't panic, just pull the battery once it loops a few times. Boot back into recovery and flash again.
- From this point you can now flash ICS using clockwork, following this you can restore your apps with Titanium if desired
ICS totally rocks by the way. I've been using Passion v13 RC1 for a week now. Tried the newest one Euphoria but it didn't work out for me.
I have to admit that I never tried ICS. I have been using an ICS theme for a long time so my phone looks like it has ICS on it. I was also leary of the mute/unmute problem I had read about and wasn't sure about how well good GPS was.
I've been testing out the ICS that is to become CM9 with the latest build being 16 found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503038
It's really stable... granted not everything is implemented such as a number of the settings screens. But I was on CM7 when I installed it so I was able to just flash it direct.

This method works great! I used this last week and had some trouble with boot loops. But nothing that can't be fix with removing the battery. I suggest finding the youtube video that is on the ICS Passion thread. The person does it on real time, so you can follow along as you do it.
I love ICS passion. It is as smooth or even smoother than Bionix.

No need to have GB boots and if you want to go back, odin to stock to reflash Bionix and then your nandroid.
This is a great ICS rom and I'm a huge Bionix fan, with a 1.3.1 and 1.3.1 Fishman final nandroid backup.
I flashed Passion ICS rc13 on 2 Vibrants, one from Bionix 1.3.1 and another from trigger 2.2 and skipped some steps (like GB bootloader) and they are working just fine.
My steps:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Flash CM GB.
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Flash Neobuddy ICS
5. Flash kernel.
6. Let the phone boot, sign up and do its setup.
All in all, took maybe 30 minutes first phone and 20 min second phone once I got more comfortable.
bionix 1.31 striaight to CM7 then on to ICS?
Do you have to go back to stock? Why couldn't you just flash to CM7 then go on to ICS? I am on Bionix 1.31 and this process just seems easier.

I think mute/unmute is hit or miss. But if you are worried about or need GPS, dont flash an ICS rom.
Also, when upgrading fro 2.2 -> 4.0, take out your external sd card prior to that! It might cause a bootloop when flashing the initial CM7 rom. I happened to me and also other people on youtube (where I found out, was the source of the problem)

It's mainly to get rid of any ghosts left from other roms to avoid any bugs not caused from the rom you install and avoid giving a rom a bad review without giving it a clean canvas to start with.

Can any one help me with SOD on the new Flexreaper 11 ROM. Acer Recovery tool indicates i have 3.01 bootloader. I Had a 3.2 Rom before that worked fine. I Wiped everything and formatted Flexrom and system. First time it went to sleep it would not wake up.
Thanks!

Did you install the Flexreeper new bootloader? This is probably why you still have SOD. If I am not mistaken, Flexreeper has 2 or 3 different versions of bootloader that you need to use. Depending on which version of the rom you want to install.

I thought that the img file was for people with ICS bootloaders, I thought that I had HC3.0.1
I'm afraid if i flash the ICS img file that I won't beable to get back to HC or that because I have 3.0.1 bootloader that the ICS bootimage file they have there will brick my a500
If you formatted and wiped everything as you were instructed . I am wondering if when you get to the google setup screen something is being restored from the old system.. When it gets to where you setup your google account. Uncheck the backup and restore boxes .
Do not restore any apps or settings from say TI BACKUP. Install only a few apps that you MUST HAVE and know work with google ics. run for a few days and see what happens.
if you still have a issue go back to 3.2 for a week and see if it works. it could be just coincidence that hardware fail-or at the same time as you flashed your tab. ..
just a though thou unlikey
Thanks
I went ahead and tried the ICS Boot.img file after reading some new post in the thread. It worked! Interesting side note, be fore the flash at boot up the display showed:
ACER.
After it was:
ACER ACER

You running an a500 or an a501?
Last time I saw the double Acer, was when the leak first came out. The 500 had issues, but not the 501 (except for double acer).
The double Acer is normal. Be glad you don't get the AFU screen like the rest. It's a BETA release, and it has..... issues. Hopefully Acer will release an official build that will do away with a lot of the issues in the near future.

I came from ezterry's acer7.014.14_CUST_ROOT_BBv4_S. I just flashed Flexreaper R11 this morning. I've noticed SOD at least three times today. My bootloader version is 3.01 like in the OP. I noticed he ended up flashing the ICS bootloader. Is this the only known fix? And if so, will ICS bootloaders prevent me from restoring a HC NAND? Thanks.
How do we find our boot loader version? When I do, what does that mean for ROMs I can flash? I have flexreaper r11 and it is consistently SOD badly. :'(

To me a favor and flash the kernel for ICS boot loader users.
Its in the thread , section kernels.
The rom got a auto script for installing the correct boot.img but even for some the ICS boot.img is needed.
Worst that can happen is stuck on Acer logo, if you got that just reboot into recovery and flash the boot.img or kernel for HC boot loader users.
The thing is that even for some people that got HC bootloadr they still need to flash the Kernel for ICS boot loader users, strange yes but no harm in trying.
I'm wondering if something in the cmdline for the LP0 changed in the latest leak causing the kernels packed for the old bootloader to have SoD again.
Also, some of you guys, please don't confuse bootloader with boot.img. They are not the same thing. FLEXREAPER does not contain any bootloaders. It contains 2 different boot.img's and trys to install the correct one based on the bootloader you have.
The bootloader only gets changed if you flash it via nvflash (or flash a stock leak but then it would be locked).
@someone who asked above. if you flash the ICS bootloader(0.03.11-ICS), you would not be able to run HC ROMs, unless you went back to the HC bootloader (3.01).
But apparently, the ICS boot.img is working for some on the old HC bootloader and resolving the SoD issue for them.

Short answer...yes...a nand restore is possible...works best with the same recovery image
used for the backup when it was first made...issues I've come across are md5 errors,
missing boot and recovery .img's. I'be done this twice...once with the early leaked ics,
restored just fine.....last nite when I tried with my partners tab we had all sorts of probs,
by the time we realised why it was too l8...thankfully I had an old 3.1 backup we threw on
then OTA'ed up to 3.2 again....same applies going back to ics via nand.
Otherwise its a full downgrade via timmydeans euu or a full package update.zip from vaches thread....
be interested in knowing how u get on, good luck

yes if you're talking about the stock roms from vaches thread, you need the full rom package - you cant just use an 'update' package as they need a full rom to work properly....
for instance my original HC3.2.1 Stock build is 7.014.15_COM_GEN1
and theres no FULL Rom for 3.2.1, so i have to use the HC 3.2 FULL instead
.....Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1.zip
Once flashed, thankfully I recieve the 2 small OTA Updates to get up to 3.2.1 again
Another couple of days the ICS OTA d/l'ed and installed with no probs....
is that clearer or am i making things worse????

I'm understanding more but is there a way to find out which ROM was on my tablet out-of-the-box (for the first time I started using my tablet )?
Also vache's thread doesn't have Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN1 only GEN2. What's the difference between those two? Do you happen to know the build before Acer_A500_7.006.01_COM_GEN1?
Thanks.

.maybe 4.010.24-38 range ??? But I'm guessing ..... depends what region u are...google yr build no. Good way 2 fin out and U may find a full stock rom - then u only need to flash it and wait for the ota
U could go all the way back to 3.0.1 and your tab will update itself to the right ,build.....then
U only need to pick from gen1 or Gen 2.....d/l an euu pkg from the bottom of the post-this will wipe all yr data so be warned.....that's why update.zip is first choice for many d/graders - they get to keep all their crap, lol
but personally, there are issues in Stock ICS, some have and some don't - I dont.- anything i can do to minimize conflicts, then I do it - remember too ICS is a major OS upgrade - not all app are fully optimised for ICS - and Acer are happy to release buggy builds - u can see how those 3 things alone can add up to potential conflicts
I like the idea of being clean, clean , clean and encourage others to stickto build path if ya can to minimize probs further down the line.....
The other thing is, u could just upgrade to ICS full stock Gen 1 as it seems 7.006.01 and 7.006.03 are running on this same build now
Don't ya just love android - u get 2 choose how u want things - then the fun of fixing it when u break it, lol

Yeah, speaking of problems. I just flashed Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1 through CWM (install zip from sdcard) and now my tablet stops at blinking Android logo. Any suggestions what I should flash or anything? And yes, I did a backup of my rom before flashing and I have uid. Also I don't care if my stuff goes I have backed up everything I need.

Yup, from vache's site. I don't think I have CWM because if I insert my external sdcard and press Vol- + Power then it says "Booting custom recovery image" and then Android comes up with gearwheels come up and it starts loading then hangs and finally it restarts and again the blinking Android comes up. When I do it without external sdcard the Android logo shows only an exclamation mark in the middle of Android logo. Any suggestions?

I flashed this version: Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1
I extracted update.zip and opened it in computer with no problems
I don't think it needed decrypting, but I'm not sure.
Also I did wipes before flashing (data, cache, dalvik and battery).
K m8 try reflash
VolDwn pwr
If that don't work then
Try using hard reset:
1) Turn off your tablet,
2) Rotation lock to your left;
3) Press Vol+ (which is closest to rotation lock) and power on simultaneously
4) As soon as the tablet vibrates you can release the power on button and
you should start to switch rotation lock left and right till you see
Erasing Userdata... Erasing Cache... Vol+ is still pressed;
5) The tablet starts to format
6) Your tablet will be as clean as it can be.

Ok I come from Taboonay ICS leak ROM.
Hi guys, hoping someone could help me out here.
I was running my tablet on ICS before with the HC bootloader (I believe it was Tablooney) and of course I was stupid and didn't make a backup.
long story short I flashed the bootloader and started experiencing random issues where the tablet would not wake up, thought ok maybe I missed a wipe of cache, battery stats, or dalvik-cache, or something. did the wipes that wouldn't kill my rom and still had the same problem.
did a full wipe and used a JB rom, still same issue
had some weird issue, restored to HC BL and rom, tried to do OTA to ICS (used EUU to go back) Tablet would not see the OTA ICS update.
so tried a third rom, still same problem. does anyone have any suggestions or insight as to why this is happening?
Thanks!

Maybe I have an answer.
1. After returning to stock, you should have installed Acer Update Enhancer from the Play Store. Without it, you won't get OTA.
2. Early release of the ICS had some SOD issues kernel related. The current ICS roms shouldn't have this anymore. However they require the V8 unlocked bootloader. Also, they use modified kernels.
Make sure you have V8 installed, An appropriate CWM recovery like Thor 1.7.2 or .3. Do your wipes, then install one of Civato's Roms. His are current builds. And, Do ALL your wipes in CWM as per the OP instructions.

That Update enhancer did the trick to take me to ICS. Then I used afterota to get rooted (which also flashed my boot loader) and now I have ICS, root, and the v8 BL!
Thanks MD!
