What did Acer do different than Asus in that regard.
Unlocked bootloader and recovery. The xoom and gtablet are pretty easy too. In fact, the Acer appears to be the trickiest. Roms aren't what were after really on honeycomb tablets, kernels and recovery is where the magic is
Sent from Desire HD or Inspire 4G or whatever this thing is called via premium XDA app.
So it could potentially still be done, just much more effort?
Does a reward need to be offered?
Ironic that rooting the Acer is far easier than those devices, but the bootloader is frucked'. Ironic.
I had the Acer Liquid for a year or so, & we used to get leaked stuff from Acer.
Lets hope we get some leaked goodies for our Iconia's.
In the new blog entry, Cyanogen said about of support devices, include Asus TF and SS tab 10.1, but i couldn't see Xoom any where in his blog

Maybe tiamat will base off of CM9

Considering they mentionned two different Tegra 2 devices being supported, chances are really good that CM9 will also be available for the Xoom, either from the core Cyanogen devs or someone else. The only potential obstacle would be lack of hardware drivers for things like the camera or the GPS, and we know this won't be an issue since Motorola will release an official ICS update themselves.
if anyone is interested in teaming up with a dev willing to work on a port for the xoom here is a link to a thread i found by searching for xoom on the cm forums.

A more open Asus, with a beta test programme for technical users* would instantly do two things.
1) result in Asus shooting to the top of the cool list for tinker-types.
2) result in a more stable end product for non-technical types, with more bugs out of the system prior to OTA update.
*technical users being those that meet a minimum criteria of producing accurate and technical bug reports and not just "it doesn't work waaaaaaahhaaaaa".
If Asus doesn't do this, it's only a matter of time before someone else does it and takes the crown.

Bear in mind that the TF101 still has issues with ICS, so don't hold your breath too long!!

There is that. But Asus has had the code for a while and I think the bug fixing via XDA users will go a long way to fixing various issues.

after waiting long for ICS, I'm pretty sure I'm patient enough to wait for this JB
I would be saying more likely October, Given that they would want the take up on the Nexus devices first....
so probably here in time for christmas
Information on Asus North American Facebook page indicates that the Tegra 3 stable will for sure get it, but it has to be determined which if any of their other devices will get it.

There seems to be some debate whether "Asus Transformer Pad" means only the TF300 or the TF300 and TF101. Either way, I would guess the TF101 will get stock JB considering the issues some people still have with ICS.

Asus now calls our TF101s the Eee Pad Transformer and the TF300 the Transformer Pad. Subtle, I know, but enough to give them an out if they feel the need. It sounded to me like a for sure for Tegra 3 and we don't know yet for Tegra 2. It's already been proven to run great on Tegra 2 so there is really no excuse to withhold it from us. I'll probably run a custom ROM anyway so it really won't matter to me. It might be nice though to get some of the Asus parts for custom ROMs where they and nVidia should know the hardware and it's secrets better than we do.
nah, we will have to trust in devs from now on, Asus wont give us JB

At this point it's better to not even try and predict what ASUS has planned for the TF101. Either way, the Devs. are already well on the way to having stable JB ROMs released soon. Hell, some people say the early test builds are good enough to be used as daily drivers.

I've tried the first 3 initial releases and cm10 preview was the the best, but not without issues. At least I could watch Netflix and YouTube videos. Team eos was OK but videos didn't work. I'm getting ready to try the 2nd version of rayman33's attempt to see how it has progressed, this time with a full backup just done for my Gummy setup. I've grown pretty fond of the Gummy ICS iteration of aokp and look forward to what they may do with JB. I used Revolver for a long while before, but he's gotten a little slower on the updates lately. I may have to check out a 'pure' aokp and see how that compares to Gummy. I also tried Steeldroid's aokp ICS and it looked really good, too. I just didn't like it always asking at bootup which launcher I wanted to use when I'd already answered once. One other thing I experienced with the JB builds that I didn't like was that web pages in dolphin HD on the forum threads here and some other sites rendered with a washed out or greyed out look, like when you you're looking at email and they've been marked read already.
Isnt the Asus Transformer Pad the same as the TF101? and a Tegra 2 device? As I read te statement I took it as th TF101 is getting the Jelly Bean Update in the coming months. Am I wrong?

It appears that rayman33 has made amazing progress with his 2nd release. If I wasn't spending most of my time with my new Nexus 7, I'd give it a shot right now. My current setup is pretty generic. Stock .27, with rayman's Harmony 66 kernel running @ 1.4GHz. Pretty boring, but it just works. I've given up on Dolphin on the Nexus 7 w/JB. I'm using Chrome and Firefox Beta for Flash sites.

No, this is the transformer pad: http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-300/features/
Better known as TF300
JB seems like a fairly boring update. So I really don't care if my TF101 gets it or not. I just want Asus to make ICS more stable.

Chrome doesn't. Firefox beta and nightly do.
Asus calls the 300t by the same name they called the tf101. We may not see it officially until all the others get it. Thankfully Asus kept it simple and all they do is port the Prime/300t build over to our device.
Hello,
I write from Italy and I'm new in this forum. I signed up to share you the petition to ask the Jelly Bean update to Asus for Transformer TF101 after the declarations that it won't be updated.
The petition was published on iPetitions and I would your help in spreading the initiative.
Comments, suggestions and above signatures are well accepted!

Last time I checked, no one from ASUS said the TF101 won't get a JB update. I prefer them not to, judging from the terrible job they did with the ICS update. Already a lot of JB custom roms can be found in development so we won't need ASUS at all.

Asus Italy stated on their Facebook page that right now only the TF201, TF300T and TF700 will get Jelly Bean, while TF101(G)/SL101 won't get the update.
That said, they have been extremely unreliable wrt announcements in the past, so I think a petition is a bit premature

The ASUS Transformer Pad is the TF300 model series, not TF101. So according to that post, they are still investigating a possible update to TF101.

You are right, they have not specifically said that there is no update for it and I really don't care for one. I, along with many others, have had a terrible experience with ICS from ASUS and have been running ROM's for awhile now. I am already rocking JB and have a stable build. I am done with ASUS.

I would prefer a petition that demands the release of all drivers and everything else needed to make roms on our own.
just signed... maybe people with facebook accounts (i dont have one) can post a link to this petition on an ASUS facebook wall to encourage other people to sign.
I'm sorry but do you really care so much about 'official' JB? We have everything we need to make it work from AOSP, there's only a few minor problems that are definitely fixable, and I'm pretty sure we'll fix those sooner than ASUS releases an update. Most ASUS bloat works on AOSP without problems, and feature wise their ROM is only different in toggles and touchpad settings, both of which are very possible. So can someone explain why would they want OFFICIALZ STUFFZ?

Some people wish to remain "stock", which is understandable. Installing a ROM can be intimidating if they've never done it before.

And which company would you have gone to? Asus has been supplying updates quite consistently. I wonder what more you would want.
Xoom (wifi only) might have a Jelly Bean update already, but Xoom owners are complaining left and right about the poor quality of this update.

An official update from AUSUS would increase the chance of also getting updater drivers, e.g. NVidia drivers etc.
Also an official build from AUSUS would have everything up and running (if yet possibly still with a few bugs, but lets hope not).

We already have updated drivers from the Xoom OTA. They need some kernel changes but it'll be easy when kernel source drops for Xoom.
